Troubles with iPhoto 11 Upgrade.

I have recently upgraded to iphoto 11 and the  install went great, but now it is common for it to crash during import and when working on photos.  What gives? I never had this problem before.  Also the crop tool is odd when pic is vertical and I want to crop it I have to rotate it to a landscape position to crop?

Or you could rotate the crop tool.
As to the crashing:

    Ronleedek-
What App are you using with the microphone?  I've used Skype, which has a "test call" feature to check your microphone.
There is a good chance your microphone is defective, possibly disconnected inside the iPad.  If an Apple Store Genius can not fix it, you may get a new iPad on the spot.

  • I am having trouble with iPhoto-it won't launch.

am having trouble with iPhoto-it won't launch and leaves a blank white screen box and spinning wheel of death-if I re-install software-will I lose all photos and faces settings? Any ideas-this is a Mac Pro and Xserve school system.
It seemed to stem from when I was transferring some movie footage from an HD camcorder to iMovie.
This is a school system and I'm worried I may lose many photos and face recognition data.

    1. The library is separate from the application, so re-installing shouldn't cause an issue with the actual photos. But it would be foolhardy in the extreme to do anything without first backing up.
    2. Often these issues are caused by a damaged Library, so reinstalling doesn't change much.
    FWIW
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.
    Alternative approach:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Trouble with iPhoto after latest update for compatibility with RAW-files

Hi all, I'm having serious trouble with iPhoto since the latest update for compatibility with RAW-files for digital fotocamera's (version 2.4).
After connection with the camera iphoto starts up as usual and i can start importing my pictures. So far all goes well. After having imported my pictures (visual with thumbs and so one) and having created an event iPhoto isn't able to show any pictures. Stopping and restarting Iphoto gives a message that there are a number of photo's available that havent been imported yet (!!???). I can choose to import or ignore. Whatever i choose i'm not capable of visualising the photo's.
Anyone with a similar problem and the solution? Can i remove the update?
I've tried several camera's all with the same problem.
    thx for any replies

Hi Terence, thanks for the reply (i'll wait with the downgrade for now ;-p).
I made a small step by step report of my findings:
    1. Attach camera to imac
    2. iPhoto starts up with previews of the pictures (so far so good)
    3. Give event-name and start import ( so far so good)
    4. 'Latest Import'-report all fine, previews ok, check with event : previews fine. All seems well
    5. disconnect camera, stop iPhoto. As far as now all seems normal.
    6. Restart iPhoto : Message 'iPhoto Library contains photo's which havent been imported. Import Y/N?'.!!!???
    7. Option Y : IPhoto imports photo's imported in step 3 in a new event box (shown as a 'black box' on screen). Last made event (step 3) shows up as a black square in overview all events. Double click on event gives empty squares where previews should appear. Double click on photo preview gives large explanationmark on screen.
    8. Drag event-box over screen shows thumbs within square, release event returns to 'black box'.
    9. Shut down iPhoto.
    10. Restart iPhoto jumps back to step 6 as long as i keep answering Y.(Each time creating a new extra 'black box event').
    11. When i now look within iPhoto Library i can find a map Import in which i can find back the last imported photo's from step 3.
    12. Dragging these pictures to my desktop (preview gives no problem at all) and from there back in to iPhoto simply recreats a new 'black box event'.
    13. In step 6 option N gives a message 'creat iphoto Library recovered'. In iPhoto Library map Import has disapeared.
14.When looking into map 'iphoto Library recovered' i can find my originally iported photo's. However same problem as in step 12.
I used aperture (trial version) to see wether the problem could be photo-related, but here al goes well.
    So, any idea's???
    thx

  • Problems with iPhoto upgrader on iPhoto 7.1.5. HELP!

I installed and ran the iPhoto upgrader for iPhoto 7 in preparation to install a newer version of iPhoto (9 or later) so that i can get photo album and books printed via iPhoto.  I downloaded a number of available iPhoto 9 upgrades, but none worked even through i had run the upgrader.  I am now stuck with a MacBook (OS X 10.7.5) with a version of iPhoto that won't open (error message: You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto) and also wo';t allow me to install any iPhoto upgrades.  Help!  I have tried to restore iPhoto from time machine, but that hasn't worked, plus trying the original install disk for my laptop hasn't worked, presumably because i have upgraded the OS a few times since i got it (it's a late 2008 dinosaur of a macbook!).  I am worried that now i have lost my photos and will have to pay 50 quid for a iLife disk with no guarantee that it will work.  All i really want to do is un-install the upgrader and return iPhoto to it's original 7.1.5 state.  Is that possible? Also how can i check that my photos are still stored somewhere without being able to open iPhoto? Please help! Thank you.

You only need to run the upgrader if you have iPhoto 9.5.  It's not needed for other iPhoto 9 versions, i.e. 9.0 thru 9.4.3.
You might be able to downgrade that library by following this iPhoto LIbrary Manager tutorial: Fat Cat Software - iPhoto Library Manager Help - Downgrading a library to an earlier version of iPhoto

  • Trouble with iPhoto and iPhoto library manager.

I had trouble with my iPhoto constantly crashing, so I downloaded and used iPhoto Library Manager. Now when I am trying to get back to using iPhoto by re-importing my pictures, I keep getting a notification saying there is not enough space on my harddrive. I have spent a long time deleting large and unneccessary files all over my computer, but I am still unable to import my images to the iPhoto library.
Does anyone have an idea of what I can do? I am starting to get worried that I will never be able to reach my pictures again
+ I have deleted all iPhoto iPod caches or whatever they're called based on recommendation from many sites.

OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.

  • Macbook pro 13" i7 and trouble with iphoto and finder

Hi, I've just bought last week the new macbook pro 13" i7.
I've just replaced the HDD for an SSD Intel 510 Series 120Go and it works very well !!!
But since yesterday when I've plugged my EOS 450D in order to transfer some photos... The problem is that I've a bug with iphoto: when I want to empty the trash (from iphoto), it doesn't work, photos are again in the trash, or when I look some picture it bugs !!!

I've re install the original HDD but always the same !!!
I've empty the RAM with "cmd+alt+P+R" but always the same...
I've re install OSX with CD but nothing.
Problem with graphic card ? with RAM ? Motherboard ?
I don't think that it is th SSD because I've the same problrm with the original HDD.
I don't understand the macbook is new.
    I need some help please.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Trouble with Lion upgrade: 2009 Mac Mini not rebooting.

    Hi folks,
I'm having trouble with the Lion upgrade. My 2009 Mac Mini (running Snow Leopard) won't reboot. Everything looked fine, but it just went black after the gray and white Apple symbol screen on the restart and I can't get it to get past this. I should mention I'm using wireless keyboard and trackpad (both Apple) and a Philips HDTV via HDMI cable as monitor. Any thought? Looking forward to using Lion.
    Thanks,
    Chris.

Is anyone else having this problem (an infinite loop of "You need to restart your computer" messages)?
Any thoughts or suggestions? I don't know how I can fix the problem, since I can't properly boot into the OS. I tried holding down the shift button to boot into Safe mode, only to achieve the same results.
Any help would be much appreciated. I'm really looking forward to using Lion.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Trouble with iPhoto Library Updater

I've read all the posts on this subject but can't find my problem. When I run the Library Updater, the libraries I want to open are greyed out. If I click on a library on the desktop, it tells me I have to install the updater. I'm stumped!

I did not sent you the email.  It was automatically sent by the ASC forum.  That is an image that I added but then delete from my last post before posting.  How it got in the email is anyone's guess.
The contents of that folder appear to be normal for an iPhoto 6 library.  You should be able to launch the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 with the Option key held down, navigate to that folder and select it for updating.
You are saying that that  the iPhoto Italy2 library folder is grayed out in the upgrader's window?  How is the volume MEDIA formatted.  It must be OS X Extended (journaled) for iPhoto or the upgrader to work.  If that volume is not formatted correctly move the folder to your boot drive and try from there.

  • Trouble with iPhoto recently.

First, it has taken to hanging after a minute or so as it tries to "sync albums with Facebook". Then I lost all my thumbnails. I rebuilt everything at least once, got most thumbnails back, except the ones associated with RAW files. Nothing seems to bring them back. Any suggestions?

I bet I corrupted my library by force quitting iPhoto after all the numerous hangs.
That would explain what you're seeing.

  • Trouble with Iphoto

Why can I only transfer one photo at a time from iPhoto to a flash drive or CD?

Because you're doing it wrong? Seriously what help can we give you...
Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Trouble with iPhoto Update

I have a 2007 mac desktop, and I have all the updates. But when I try to open my iphoto. This appears:
I've dowloaded the iphoto Library updater and I still get the same response. Please Help!
When I click on the file, edit, view, ect on my top bar everything is greyed out.

What version of iPhoto? Of the OS? If you recently upgraded to Yosemite and to iPhoto 9.6 (necessary for Yosemite) and if you previously have iPhoto '08 version 7.x.x or earlier  then you need to backup your iPhoto library and download and RUN the iPhoto library upgrader (it is installed in your applications folder ==> utilities) - after you have run it then launch iPhoto to complete the upgrade
