have troubles when playing out to a DV camcorder. i 've got a mac mini intel, final cut studio and 2 sony DV cameras with dv in.
capturing works fine, but when i put the captured movie to the timeline, then on both cameras there are 4 small bars (2 vertical, 2 horizontal), which shows some content of the captured files. the rest of the display stays black. looks very strange.
tried to reinstall quicktime, tried to erase quicktime receipts and quicktime settings.. it worked then, but just for one time. after restarting the mac the same problem occured.
thanks for your help!!

  • Is there an upgrade path from Final Cut Studio 3.0 to Final Cut Pro X?

Is there an upgrade path from Final Cut Studio 3.0 to Final Cut Pro X ?

The price of FCPX pretty much is the cost of the upgrade of FCPStudio, but a much better value (at least so far -- every update has been free.) However, it's only the single app so you might feel like you're not getting as much for your money. Don't be fooled. Most of Color and Soundtrack Pro are built into FCPX. FCPX will conform video automatically so Cinema Tools aren't really needed anymore. The Motion engine is part of FCPX, although I do recommend buying Motion 5 (an extra 50 bucks.)  (Motion 4 seems to have died in Yosemite - you can't even launch it.)
I "upgraded" from Final Cut Studio 3... it took me about a week to decide to pack up all the old software for good. YMMV.  However, if you use DVD Studio Pro... hang on to that.

i am having trouble with downloading videos from my Sony HDR-XR160 video camera. iMovie doesnt open up when i connect the camcorder. any suggesions?

Looking up your camera online, I found it is capable of 1920 x 1080 Full HD 60p Recording. It's the 60p (60 frames per second Progressive) that's the problem I think. iMovie '11 will do 60i (Interlaced). You might need to convert it from the format the camera currently uses into another format to get it into iMovie. Read more about it on this link here: How to import 60p footage From that message thread comes the recommendation to use ClipWrap to convert the camera's video clips now that they are in 60p:

Use ClipWrap to rewrap to QuickTime. Import the files. Edit in either 59.94 or 29.97. The latter if you want to use the high frame rate for slomo

  • Having trouble installing Final cut pro from Final cut studio 2

    hi,
I have just recently got a new mac pro and first installed Logic Studio and all it's components.
I just tried to install Final cut studio 2 and all it's components.
I was able to install most of the components - Live type, cinema tools etc but not Final cut! the tick box is grayed out on the menu! the hard drive is fresh and I've not installed a previous version on that drive ever, when i move the cursor over the final cut option i get a yellow box and it says:
    "TT NEWERALREADYINSTALLED"
    Help!
    Thanks

    From this support article, http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1110
Take the following steps to resolve this issue:
    1. If it is still running, quit the Final Cut Studio Installer.
    2. In Finder, navigate to /Library/Receipts/.
    3. Locate the file named ProMediaIO.pkg and drag it to the Trash.
    4. Run the Final Cut Studio Installer again.

  • Mini-Dvi to Video out from Final Cut Pro working

Thanx Everybody for posting reply for my post regarding running video out to external TV from Final Cut Pro in MacBook.
    It's working fine.

@ Studio X : The files were originally created with Final Cut Pro, rendered out to QuickTime, then are being played back with Final Cut Pro. The file that has the most noticable studdering is a 60-minute timeline sequence in Final Cut. All files are being stored and played back from the Mac Mini's internal hard drive. Everything was originally shot on DV and formatted for a 4:3 aspect ratio.
@ Shane Ross : Are there any settings in the MacOS or FCP where I can improve the HDMI video signal? Or do you know of / have any experience with Firewire to HDMI converters? Unfortunately, my new signal path relies on HDMI from the video playback.
My current setup uses the Firewire output, which is then converted to composite video & analog audio using a pair of ageing DV tape decks. That setup is becoming troublesome due to age.

  • Burned a disc with a QT from Final Cut, cross fades look terrible

    Hello,
Burned a disc in iDVD 6 with a quicktime bounced from Final Cut. The quicktime itself, when played in quicktime, looks great and has nice crossfades throughout. When burned in iDVD to a disc and played on a television, the crossfades are not rendered, and they look terrible. Decolorized, pixelated, non-existent in some cases. Any ideas why? I'm burning in Toast 8 to see if I can duplicate the problem so as to isolate it as an iDVD or FCP problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

Because the QT file isn't compressed while the iDVD file is. And in this case anyway, you prefer the compression offered via Toast instead of iDVD. Bear in mind that one-hour of DV material is roughly 13GB. iDVD (or Toast) compresses this to fit on a 4.3GB DVD. Google MPEG compression to learn more.

  • Cannot play mov from final cut pro

    Hi out there,
I received three mov videofiles with exactly the same length of 2.097.152 KB. This is a playout from a final cut pro editing system.
When playing one of these files with quicktime 7.1 on a Win XP system there is a -2048 error message: "not a video file".
It seems that the files are packed/compressed before from a bigger movie. Do you know which software will pack/unpack those mov files or how to view?
    Thank you in advance,
    Dave H.

    the source is FCP<<</div>
That still doesn't say what the specific format the files are ... FCP can export to MANY, MANY QT (and other) codecs/formats. See if the files will play on a Mac. If so, while open in QT Player, hit Command j, then look to see what the specific codec is. It may just be a problem of not having the needed codec installed on the Windows system. Also, most Windows systems will require that the file has an extension in order to play properly.

  • DVCPRO HD 720P: pixel aspect ratios with still images from Final Cut

I am currently trying to get still images from a trailer I am working on with Final cut pro. The footage is DVCPRO HD 720P 24pn and the interlacing and pixel aspect ratios have been giving me a lot of trouble in photoshop. I am able to convert the PAR but it is for preview purposes only...? I need the file to be saved with the converted PAR. How do you do that???
Also, the de-interlacing filter on photoshop doesn't seem to help the quality of the photo.
    Anyone have any ideas?
I have searched and searched and only found somewhat related questions, so maybe I am the only one trying to do this...

Why are you doing interlace if you have 720p?

  • Is iDVD compatible with quicktime movies from Final Cut Express 4?

I am trying to find out if iDBD can be used with Final Cut Express 4 output or is it just for imovie?  If it can be used with FCE4 what is the extension.  Thank you.

    Hi
Yes - IF YOU DO IT RIGHT.
    FCE/P to iDVD
    Several things
    • How to go from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Free space on Start-up hard disk
    • Encoding
    • Brand and type of DVDs used
    • Burn speed set
    • iDVD BUG
    • Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
    Encoding
    • I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used
    • I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R
    Burn speed set
    • I set down this to x4 (or x1)
    iDVD BUG
    • One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
    of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
    Use of Chapters
    • I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
    • NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
    • No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
    Material used to build movie
    • video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this eg .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
    • audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
    • photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Trash iDVD pref. file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.
    from post ??
May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving

  • Upgrade Problem from Final Cut Studio to Final Cut Studio 2

Hi everyone - any advice would be greatly appreciated. I own FCS HD and recently purchased the upgrade to FCS2. When installing FCS2, the installer says I need to upgrade several of the component applications. For example, I currently have Final Cut Pro 5.0.4, Motion 2.0.1 and DVD Studio Pro 4.0.3. However, I cannot find the upgrade applications on the Apple Website. For example, only 5.0.4 is available on the website and there were versions 5.1, etc. What do I need to do to get all my apps upgraded to FCS2?
    Thanks
    CirclingKailas

Well, if you purchased the upgrade to FCS2, you need to install it from the install DVDs. When that is done, then you go to the SYSTEM UPDATE preference pane in the SYSTEM PREFERENCES application.
If you currently have FCP 5.0.4, Motion 2.0.1...then you haven't installed FCS2 yet.

  • Trouble with serial number on final cut pro  6.0.6

I've had final cut pro 6.0.6 for several years and I'm trying to transfer it to my new computer a macbook pro 10.6.6 and it asks for the serial number. I have one but it won't accept it. I don't know what to do.

Just found this post on upgrading from PPC to Intel. Now I am confused. thanks
"Of course you can! Whoever told you migrating from a PPC to Intel machine is wrong. You only need to be careful about your applications to ensure they are up to date or run on Snow Leopard. Intel based machines that run OS X have an automatic tool build into them called Rosetta, Rosetta allows PPC based apps to run on 10.4, 10.5 & 10.6. You do need to ensure that the apps you have that are PPC only will run on Intel machines. All you need to do is make a list of your apps, then check each vendors web site for compatibility. If they don't have a version that runs on Intel (almost all do) then you need to upgrade that software. It's not that difficult, you just have to be methodical. If you are running very old software then upgrade as your finances allow"

  • Audio popping between clips with timeline imported from final cut xml file

So i imported a final cut timeline that was synced with pluraleyes into adobe and between all the cuts there is an audible popping noise. I've tried using audio cross fade but it seems to make it worse. How can I fix this??

If anyone else has this problem - you fix it by making sure you pan the audio to the center, not left or right.

  • Can I install just FCP from Final Cut Studio?

I currently run an old version of FCP on a 4-year-old dual 533 G4, so it doesn't have enough power to run Motion or DVD Studio 3. I plan to buy a new G5 in about 6 months, but in the meantime I want to run FCP 5 on my old machine. Can I install just the FCP upgrade from the FC Studio disk?

Yup - and fyi fcp 5 & DVD Sp 4 run fine on my old girl (same as yours).
Motion won't install as you know.

  • Trouble Rendering WMV File in Final Cut Studio

I have a wmv clip that' s an hour and 25 minutes long.  i put that clip in my timeline and it needs to render.  but, in the middle of rendering it gave me a codec error.  is it because it's a wmv file?  do i need to convert it to a quicktime movie for it to work?  let me know thanks.

You can also get the free but crippled version of Flip4Mac, Microsoft's officially sanctioned tool for moving WMVs into Quicktime. WMVs will then play in realtime, or near realtime depending on your system, but you cannot export to WMV.
To create Quicktime that will play in WP, you must use some kind of licensed tool and you must pay for the license. Flip4Mac is the go-to software and I think it's a $50 upgrade, accessible from within the systems prefs for Flip.
