Troubles with reformating Windows iPod to Mac and data loss
I'm completely lost. I've tried searching the support section of Apple.com and I've tried searching these message boards but I haven't been able to figure out what exactly I'm doing wrong...
I have a horrible Dell computer running Windows XP Home... the machine is just full of problems and I have a 20GB HP iPod that was originally formated for the windows machine.
I bought a G5 iMac almost 4 months ago and try as I might I cannot format the iPod to hold any information from my Mac (it just reads the information from my Dell and will copy that to the Mac) and I even lost all of my non-purchased songs on my iPod the first time I tried to switch it.
Does anyone have any information that might help...? Thanks (and I'm sorry for posting what probably is an annoying question!)

Trouble with Differences between iPod 5th Gen and "Classic"
I have the 30 GB 5th Gen iPod. The iTunes software was easy to use in creating playlists and viewing my music on my device. I recently bought an 80 GB Classic and cannot create a playlist on my device. It always creates it in my library. I also cannot get the browser view to show up when on my 80 GB device. Everything was easy with the 5th Gen but I am finding the differences in navigating the software very tough. Please help.
P.S. The new iPod always wants to sync when I connect even though I am pretty sure I told the program not to auto sync. I cannot get past the syncing screen without clicking on the sync button.It sounds like you need to adjust your settings.
1. Open iTunes on your computer.
2. Connect your iPod to the computer.
3. As soon as the iPod shows on the sidebar, look at the summary tab options to make sure that the Manually manage music and videos is checked if you want to manually load the iPod. A window should open to ask if you are sure you want to change the setting to manual. Answer Yes. If you want to auto sync, leave this item unchecked.
If you have unchecked items in the main library (duplicate songs, etc) and do not want them to load into the iPod, make sure the item Sync only checked songs and videos is marked. If you change this setting, look for the Sync button at the lower right corner to change to two buttons Cancel and Apply. Click on Apply. It is always important to click apply after you finish making changes to the iPod settings.
4. If you manually Sync, with your mouse you can drag and drop the playlists you want to load in the iPod from the sidebar. Highlight the playlist you want. Hold the left mouse button down as it is highlighted and move the mouse to cover the iPod device and release the mouse button. The playlist and songs should begin loading.
5. Alternately, when looking at the device, switch to the music tab. Change the setting to Sync Music - Selected Playlists. Then check off the playlists you want to load. If you do this, and have the default AutoSync set on the Summary Tab, the playlists will automatically be updated when the iPod is connected. Depending on your personal preferences or space needs, uncheck Include Music Videos or Display Album Artwork on iPod.
6. Make sure that you click APPLY to apply the settings to the iPod after making changes to the various menus. If you do not apply the settings, the iPod will retain the default settings.
7. Note that you will have to re-enter all your settings and apply if you have Restored the iPod (delete all content and reinstall operating software). In a Restore, the iPod settings are also reset to the Apple factory defaults.

I'm having trouble with syncing my iPod to my computer.
I'm having trouble with syncing my iPod. It gets stuck on the last step saying, "Waiting for changes to be applied." It's been doing this for the last half hour. Is there anything I can do to correct this or is am just going to have to restore my iPod?
You can sync/manually mange iphone with one and only one computer. If you sync/manually mange to anther, then it will erase the current content and replace with content from the new computer.

Started having trouble with iTunes so I uninstalled everything and tried to reinstall but it says ' iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes.' Well, I've uninstalled and reinstalled 5 times. Now what?
I figured it out. A week ago I had downloaded a screensaver from a website I trusted and that's when my problems started. I uninstalled it but that didn't help. So, I reinstalled it then used an uninstall softtware app that cleanns more than the control panel does. Then I used a computer cleaner to be sure everything was wiped clean. And it worked. I downloded iTunes for the 7th time in 2 days and finally it worked! And I lost nothing from my account.

I work with Premiere Pro on a mac and export quicktime movies to be played on pc's or mac's. When I export a qt from Premiere with audio it will not play on a pc only a mac. After extensive research I have narrowed down the problem to this: if you use the inspector in quicktime it looks like this

I have to run it thru AE to make it look like this....then it plays

SOOOO the problem is the Little/Big Endian. I googled that and it looks like a file/bit structure....anyone know how/why to change it in Premiere? Because everytime I make a movie in Prem I have to drag the sequence into AE and render it there so the sounds works.....

Here is my dilema: I have been using my iPod w/ Windows, but now I want to quit using Windows, and use same iPod (with all its accumulated music) on my iMac. I made the mistake of connecting my iPod to the Mac it erased everything on my iPod (thank goodness I kept my Windows machine with the back ups) ... what do you suggest to transfer my music? First of all, I want to thank you for your tip in the right direction; my iPod is now fully functioning with my iMac. This, however, is not the complete tale. I went to the document you referred, and began following the directions step for step. I got to a point where I was copying my iTunes folder onto my iPod when I encountered my first problem. Midway through the copy, I got an error to the effect of "cyclical redundency error," or something to that effect. Windows aborted the transfer and I was left scratching my head. To make matters worse, my iPod would no longer connect to either iTunes or the PC, it would just be in a constant state of "Do Not Disconnect." My windows explorer would show "e:/" was a removable drive, however it said it now needed to be formatted. I thought, "this is wicked annoying, but ok, lets use the iPod updater." No dice. It continued in its "Do Not Disconnect" state indefinetly. I tried resetting, etc., same ends. I tried formatting by totally removing iTunes, then the iPod program itself. The I tried reinstalling the iPod program as if it was the first time (remember, all you Windows users, when you first set the iPod up for use with Windows, you must format it), still that endless "Do Not Disconnect" (and if you put your ear to the iPod, you heard what I would call "click, click, whhrrr" over and over). Finally, I had it. I did a comand line format (c:\format e:) and that worked to reformat it. Then, I basically had an iPod in its "new" state and followed the above link tit for tat, no issues this time. All told, 5+ hours just so I could use my existing iPod ... I'd like to blame Windows for this one, but who knows.
None the less, it seems the ends justify the means in this case; so once again, thank you, everyone, for all your help.
