Troubleshoot: tone duration longer than icon in matrix or note length in sc

Hello,
I'm editing a track in the matrix editor, and, no matter what I do, the tones are being held for a longer duration than I want. In the score they read much shorter, too, than they're being held for. I don't see any pedal markings in the score either.
Any ideas about how to fix this? No other tracks have this problem. I also tried shifting midi instruments from different software.
Thanks for your help,
DJ

Here's a little more info on the situation. I figured out how to remove the legato pedal in hyper draw. So I've lost most of the tone problem. The extra weird thing is that when I change duration of the note in the matrix editor and save, the changes are not kept. When I reopen the program, all the durations are what they originally were.
Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

  • Duration longer than content in timeline

For some reason my duration (holding the cursor over the yellow line at the top of the timeline) is 2 minutes longer than the content of the timeline, even though they visually match. Net effect, I get 2 minutes of black at the end of the video.
    How do I fix this?

scroll down and make sure you dont have any audio that is still there.
Also make sure your WAB ( work area bar ) isnt set outside of your video.

  • Correct duration longer than indicated - playback ends prematurely

I have some mp3 song tracks the durations for which are actually substantially longer than reported in iTunes (up to 20 or 30 percent longer). When I play one of these songs in iTunes, the song continues to play to the end after the displayed remaining time has reached zero, but on my iPod the song ends prematurely. Options don't let me specify an end point later then the displayed end point for playback. QuickTime Player gets the durations right. How might I repair the incorrect duration information in iTunes? Thanks.

For me the same used audion lame encoder and showed up in iTunes Library with very strange time settings.

  • Picture duration longer than 4sec not possible? Always gets set to 10min instead.

    Hi,
I am using iMovie 11 (9.0.4). At some point in my project, I want to show a single photo, but not for the default 4 seconds, but rather for 30 seconds. So I double-click on the clip and in Clip->Duration I try to change the 4,0s to something else.
First thing which is stange is that I cannot simple set my cursor behind the 4 and hit backspace. Even entering something after the 4 (e.g. 42) is not possible. The only thing which I can do, is setting the cursor behind the 's' and delete everything. Only then am I able to actually enter something in this edit field. Well, I enter 30, but without the 's', because pressing the 's' key on the keyboard is again not possible. Strange? If I hit Enter, 30 get immediatley replaced by 10:00 and now my clip is 10 minutes long. No matter what I enter in this field, it always gets set to 10 minutes.
Does anyone has a solution for this?

You simply cannot - repeat cannot - go from one menu to another menu without breaking up the soundtrack. It is not possible under DVD-Video specifications. DVD-Video is graphically dominant, which means when you switch from one menu to another, or from a timeline to a menu, or from a menu to a timeline, the audio
i must change to the next item's audio stream.
There is no way around this.
I have LOST season 1, and will check it out for you & get back to you later on.
You CAN have continuous audio from the movie into when the highlight layer (subpicture) appears by delaying the appearance of the buttons. The whole thing then becomes one long Motion Menu, with delayed buttons. This can have one long audio stream. Clever timing will make it appear that Audio is seamless if it goes from Motion to Static. I will check this out on Season 1 though.
    Slideshows.
Best way to do these is to not actually create a slideshow, but instead create a video timeline at a very low bitrate for the video. Set up your stills as & where you want them in relation to your Audio, in your NLE (Premiere Pro?) and export to a 3Mb/sec MPEG-2 clip instead. You may - depending on the pictures - get away with 2.5 or even 2Mb/sec.
    Chapters.
What you want to do can only be done via scripting.
    Text.
Subpicture overlays can contain a maximum of 4 colours, including background as colour #1. Blu Ray & HD DVD both get around this and increase the allowed colours in subpicture overlays. What this means to you is that you cannot use drop shadowing or anything other than primitive anti-aliasing. The best you can do is to set the main text colour as the base, and then use the 2 highlight colours at 66% & 33% respectively. It takes practise but can be quite effective.

  • Imovie still longer than 10 min

i am importing still .png files or .jpgs or something to imovie.
    audio plays in the background.
why does imovie not let me make the clip duration longer than 10 minutes?
i found a workaround:  i have to copy and paste a second clip of the same picture on the end of the first clip.  this is a minor problem, but since i'm making a lot of them, it just slows me down, you know?

many people have completed such projects in the 4:3 aspect ratio, but not 16:9.
I just encoded (Best Quality) a 1 hour 27 minute widescreen project last night. Now, Project Info says it's 4.2 of 4.2GB capacity, which I think is a bit odd... You'd expect that to be 75% of 4.2GB based on time alone. But the motion menus are 4:14 of 7:30, so that takes up some room. It may just be reflecting that the encoding "filled up" the disk image.
Another 45 minute widescreen project shows 1.7GB of 4.2GB. That has been encoded too. Seems aboout right.
I have seen others with "oversize" projects in iDVD 6.

  • Why is my exported file 2 seconds longer than the project in my timeline

I am using a Mac, latest OSX. I need my project to run at exactly 30minutes. In the timeline my project is marked at exactly 30 minutes from the in/out points. When I export the media with Premier Pro I end up with a final product which is 30 minutes and 2 seconds long. Where are these two extra seconds coming from? I had my source range set for Sequence in/out points and this read as 30 miutes exactly, and the predicted output time for the final export read as 30 minutes exactly as well. This still added two extra seconds so I then set the source range to custom and typed in 30minutes exactly and it is STILL giving me 2 extra seconds. What is going on here?
Export settings summary reads as follows
    1920x1080 (1.0)
    23.976 fps
    Progressive
    00:30:00:00
    VBR
    1 pass
    Target 0.19 Mbps
    Max 0.19 Mbps
    AAC
    320 kbps
    48 kHz
    Stereo

Because within Premiere Pro, your are reading the total running time based on Non-drop frame timecode.
Depending on which version of Quicktime you are using you can click on the counter and change the value of the numbers displayed:
where Standard is real time. If you switch it Non Drop, you'll see it will display the length (incorrectly) as 30 minutes.
If you are using Quicktime 10 I believe you can only display real time.
This is all because your video is running at 23.976 frames per second. That means it is running slightly slower than real time, which would be true 24fps. Over the period of 30 minutes, this slow frame playback is making the show run longer by two seconds.
This why in NTSC 29.97 and 59.94 video there is drop and non-drop timecode. Drop frame timecode drops timecode numbers over time to compensate for the difference that the video rate is slightly slower than real time.
In drop frame, when you have a duration of 30 minutes, it coresponds to real time 30 minutes.
In non-drop timecode, when you have a duration indicating  30 minutes  it will actually take slightly longer to playout.
There is not a standard for 24fps drop frame timecode, it is always non-drop. You can't switch to drop frame timecode if your sequence frame rate is 23.976 or 24fps.
    The math:
If you had 30 minutes of footage running at 24 fps - 24fps X 60 = 1440 frames in a minute, 1440 x 30 = 43200 frames in the show. (So non-drop TC, which counts the frames without regard to the true playback rate, displays a duration of 30 minutes)
But since the video, is, in fact, running slightly slower, at 23.976, those 43200 frames take longer to play out by .024 frame per second of real time.  So 43200  (your total show amount of frames) divided by 23.976 (the playout per second frame rate) = 1801.801802 seconds, which is 30 minutes, 1.8 seconds.
Avid used to ( and maybe still does) come with a calculator to make this conversion and to help make the frame count = the desired running time.
It should be noted that within commercial production, with durations of 30 or 60 seconds, this whole mess is less apparent. It only shows up when you work with program length material. This is why they invented drop frame timecode.
A solution is to tighten up the edit by 1.8 seconds over 30 minutes

Warp Stabilising is a two part process.
    Analysis and Stabilising.
Both have a banner across the Program Monitor during the process ( unless you have turned that off.
Analysis start automatically on forst application...but you can rock in there and start adjusting the parameters.
You may need to hit "Analyse" Button again.
You should see the number of frames and the estimated duration during this process.

  • Importing images and setting longer than 10:00 length

Dear all, I have a very simple question. Whenever I import an image into my project, it is automatically set to length of 10:00. In the sequence viewer, I cannot drag it to make it longer than a certain length of time. So, I end up having to add several copy of the image.
How can I make the image I import have a longer length?
BTW, I am using this image as an overlay ontop of my video.

Import of images is controlled by Final Cut Express>User Preferences>General Tab.
Still/Freeze Duration can be set here to any duration you like.
You should be able to double click your still in the Timeline, it opens in the Viewer. Adjust the duration in the Top Left Timecode box. If clips are either side of the still in the Timeline it may not work as there won't be enough room for the duration to be longer.

  • Audio is 1 frame longer than video after encode

My .ac3 files are coming up 1 frame longer than they should be on SOME encodes. Unfortunately, I can't see any noticeable pattern to which files it happens to. It occurs on anything from audio-only files created in Soundtrack to an FCP video/audio export. It's happened on both a DV sequence as well as a DVCPRO HD sequence. It's a bit unnerving to see the audio longer than the video, even if it is one frame because the end product is slightly (1 frame, I'd reckon) out of sync. I've tried setting a specific out point in my sequence and got the same effect.
Does anyone have any ideas? Anyone else having their audio come up 1 frame too long on a Dolby encode?
    Thanks,
    Cameron

Anyone else having their audio come up 1 frame too long on a Dolby encode?
    Yes.
The rest is longwinded with no answer to the problem.
    First the system config.
    Dual 1.8 GHz PCI-X G5
    4 GB Ram
Media drive: 800 GB Raid FW 800
(4 discs, 2 on internal bus, 2 on LaCie FW 800 card)
    162 MB/s Read, 91 MB/s Write.
    FCP 5.1.2
    Compressor 2.3
    DVD SP 4.1.1
    I created a 16 minute NTSC DVC PRO50 sequence, audio at 48KHz 16 bit.
Not having a person recorded talking for that length of time I created a series of one frame "pops" of color bars and tone, followed by 10 seconds of video and audio slug.
This sequence was copied and pasted to fill the timeline with a single frame of the "pop" at the very end.
    Everything perfectly in sync.
I nested the sequence and rendered.
No matter how the 16 minute timeline was exported and compressed to MPEG-2, 7 Mb/s and Dolby 2.0 192 Kb/s.
(direct export to Compressor, export of audio and video separately or sequence export, then to Compressor)
there was always an audio sync error once imported to the DVD SP timeline.
Not an entire frame out, but on zooming to max in the timeline in SP, about 7/8 of a frame extra.
If I exported just the last 1:21 min of the NTSC DVC PRO50 timeline, and compressed with the same settings, the extra audio length was about 3/4 of a frame over.
Next I exported the NTSC DVC PRO50 timeline as a DVCPRO HD100 1080 60i QT sequence.
Cut the last 1:21 min and imported to Compressor.
    Compressed as 19 MB/s MPEG-2 and Dolby 2.0 192 Kb/s.
Created a new DVD SP HD project and brought the files into the timeline.
Zoomed in at the end, and the error in sync was minimal, not perfect, but difficult to make out even at full zoom.
Anyone have any suggestions to get things, at least Standard Definition, perfectly in sync?

    Hi Derek,
I find related information as below:
The default options allow all users to book resources if they are within the set policies (i.e. up to 180 days in the future, up to 1440 minutes in duration, etc.), and will reject all other meetings. In the context of resource mailboxes,
InPolicy and OutOfPolicy simply mean whether or not the meeting invitation matches any restrictions enabled on the resource mailbox. For example
MaximumDurationInMinutes value for the resource mailbox is 30 minutes, any meeting invitation longer than 30 minutes would be considered OutOfPolicy. Using the
RequestOutOfPolicy parameter, you can manually add users that are allowed to request meetings that are not within the policy, and if you really want to lock things down, you can set the
AllBookInPolicy value to False, and then manually add users to the
BookInPolicy field, or more restrictive, to the
    RequestInPolicy field.
    More details to see:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2007/05/14/3402515.aspx
I suggest set the MaximumDurationInMinutes parameter to a big number. Find a similar thread for your reference:

  • Problems with streaming f4v files longer than approximate 1 hour

    Hey Everybody!
I have a problem streaming on-demand f4v-files longer than 1 hour! The video starts normaly playing the stream and the player shows the correct overall duration. But if you start skipping/seeking the overall duration change to 13 h 20m and 28s (instead of 1 hour) and the stream breaks down. All f4v files with less than one hour duration works fine with playing and skipping!
I encode the f4v files with Adobe Media Encoder. I have also checked the f4v file with FLVcheck (passed). So, does anybody have an idea in fixing this problem and which format is the best for FMS streaming (MP4, FLV, F4V?)?
    Thanks

To  complicate this further, I found I wasn't able to output F4v files from Adobe Media Encoder (Premiere Pro CS4), without the file freezing at 1 hour 11 minutes and 34 seconds. I output 5 different 2-hour clips, played them back in Adobe Media Player and all froze exactly (to the second!) at 1 hour 11 minutes and 34 seconds. Found it interesting and inexplicable that this poster had exactly the same issue, but involving software that is completely different - http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/53987-Virtual-Dub-Strange-error-help-needed-ASAP     Can anyone make sense of this?
