Troubleshoot wifi
Please help with manually repairing my wifi connection.
I rebooted my Ipad and now can't connect to my home wifi. I reset the network connection but still no luck. I'm certain that I'm correctly entering the PW. When I enter the password the error is "unable to join the network"
Thanks for your reply.
What ended up working was to turn off wifi on the ipad, reboot, then turn wifi back on, then connect as usual.

Mac Mini Intel Core Duo/Tiger - Troubleshooting wifi signal
After replacing my Mini's hard drive, the airport signal strength is averaging one fewer bars. It shows a single bar more often and the number of bars fluctuate more often. I triple checked when I put the antenna back, it was back exactly as it originally was. The shielding is near where the wire connects to the Airport. Perhaps I did something to the antenna I'm unaware of. I did notice that the Airport had two antenna connectors and I'm using only but I'm pretty sure that was the way it was before.
I'd like to get it back to where it was usually 3-4 bars. The router is 15 feet away.
Perhaps I could replace the wifi antenna?

I know my Mini is really old, as is the OS, 10.4. Will something like this boost my signal?
http://www.amazon.com/Protronix-802-11N-Wireless-Adapter-150Mbps/dp/B004BAN3D6/r ef=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1390686136&sr=8-5&keywords=usb+wifi+signal+boosterMy fault. I was testing wifi strength with the cover was off. Once I put the cover back on, consistently showed 4 bars.
Had no idea it helped boost the wifi signal. If that's so, clever. -
Troubleshoot wifi printer connection
Im trying to add a printer to my new MacBook Pro. Printer is already installed and working perfectly in wireless mode on my home network using my old Windows laptop. When I try to add printer via system preferences I don't get any printer in the list. My Mac has full network and internet connectivity. I have tried loading the printer software cd and following the install steps, but no joy. I have disabled the firewall but still it does not work. I can get the printer to work via a USB connection. Any ideas??
Yeah OS X does not like to do network printer installs.
Most of the time you need to connect the printer via USB, do the install and then change the port to look on the network for it.
I real PITA. You would figure Apple would straighten this out. -
Troubleshooting Wifi on iTunes
Hi All
So last night I went to sit down to watch a movie on Apple TV like I do most nights and it couldnt find my Computer.
I assumed that there was an issue with AppleTV so I restarted it, then Restored it, restarted iTunes, etc etc... Nothing.
Then I noticed that my iPhones werent showing up wirelessly on iTunes... (the button that appears in the top right when it connects to a device wirelessly wasnt there) so I restarted my iMac and tried again, nothing.
The only thing I havent tried is reinstalling iTunes thus far and I am wondering if anyone has had something similar happen or if there is a simple fix I have somehow overlooked...
Thanks for your time in reading this
- AdamPS I am running OS X 10.9.1 with iTunes 11.1.3
Thanks again -
How can I troubleshoot Internet Sharing (wifi to ethernet)?
Hi hi everyone!
Any idea how to troubleshoot wifi/ethernet Internet Sharing? I use to network a media player (like an AppleTV not made by Apple) and recently it stopped working. Luckily I have two macs in the house to shoot the troubles.
I have an iMac running Leopard 10.5.5 and a Powerbook running Tiger.
I have tried sharing both ways (imac wifi » powerbook ethernet and powerbook wiki » imac ethernet) but am only able to get an IP from the DHCP server (Airport Extreme N base station). I am not able to get on the web (google search, etc).
Where can I look to see what's not working?Hi Ryan Feeley-
Anything useful in this link: Mac OS X: Connect to the Internet, troubleshoot your Internet connection, and set up a small network ?

Wifi troubleshooting on an iPad 2
Hello,
I've been having wifi problems for almost as long as I've had my iPad but they seem to have gotten worse after it was dropped.
I recently tried doing some more careful troubleshooting and one of the telling things I came up with was a wifi strength graph from my router (Time Capsule).
The iPad signal is the blue one and it clearly shows intermittent signal drops. I'm inclined to believe it's a hardware issue but before I take it apart to look for bad connections I thought I'd see if anyone had any thoughts on whether it might be a software issue.
Thanks,
MikeSome things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

I used to be able to connect my iPad to my house wifi network walking all over my house then one day it stopped. When i tried to connect to my network I would get an message saying "Unable to Join network". I found that if i was within 5 feet of my router it would connect and work just fine. At the same time I tried it at multiple other networks that I have before (girlfriends and other friends houses) and could not connect with same issue. Only place I can connect is my work wifi.
Can connect to wifi with my iPhone with no issues
I have reset my network connections

Just bought it last week. Have synced it with my main computer. It gets WIFI most of the time, but the signal never goes above two bars (curves) even when I'm in a strong WIFI area. Rest of the time it varies between zero bars (no service) to two bars - slow, slow, slow.
Already did the recommended shutdown and the WIFI on and off suggestions made by Apple. Already compared to other equipment, which receive a solid, strong three bars at all the same locations. Since this is the WIFI only model, quite alarmed at the problem. I need the WIFI to be able to pick up the signals better.
Could this be an antenna problem?? Behaves this way even when not in any case. Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

New Ipad mini will not connect automatically to home WiFi network
I use a range of Apple devices at home, IPhone 4, MacBook Pro and IMAC.
They all see and connect automatically to my WiFi home network. I never experienced any difficulty with my DLINK router.
I have received a couple of days ago my new Ipad mini (Wifi+ cellullar), running IOS 602, but not equipped with a SIM card.
The device never connects automatically to the home WiFi network.
I need to open the Settings app, chose the WiFi submenu and select manually my "dlink" network. Then only can I work with my network.
I need to perform this each time I leave my home or I restart the device.
As I am experienced with Apple devices I noticed this behaviour right away and can confirm that the settings on the Ipad mini are the same as the ones of the IPhone 4. I am certain that this is a bug.
Any suggestion to overcome this major frustration?

I have been using my iPhone 4S for one year and has been working perfectly fine until now. I connect it to wifi and it shows the blue check, showing I am supposed to be connected, but at the top, where the 4G network shows, it stays at 4G and does not show the bars for the wifi. It only connects to the one home network I have. When I am connected to the home wifi, it kicks me off the wifi everytime I put my phone on standby--> lock it after I am done using it. It also kicks me off my home wifi occasionally, when I am in the middle of using it, and have to recconect it. If I go to a store, for example, JcPenny, I try to connect it to the wifi there and it shows the blue check, and like I said, the 4G network does not change to the wifi bars. Please try to help me!
You are detecting the wifi, but not connected to it.

Hello - I recently got Comcast Xfinity service. We had switched from a different service. Our wifi service was never great, but prior to Xfinity, it worked decently. But now that we have Xfinity, our wifi is much worse and very unreliable. I am seeking advice on how to setup my various Apple wifi devices in my home. I have attached a diagram that illustrates what I am dealing with. We have a large old house with stone walls. Comcast does not support this issue.
To explain the attached diagram, we have a total of 4 levels in our house - an unfinished basement, 1st floor, 2nd floor, and 3rd floor. The Xfinity router is in the basement and it is connected to a NetGear 10/100 network switch. I already have ethernet cables running from the network switch in the basement to various locations throughout the house. So I have ethernet connected to my time capsule and ethernet connected to each of my 3 Airport express devices. The dark lines running from the network switch to the various devices represents ethernet cable.
The immediate problem that we are having is that we are unable to connect to our wifi networks. The networks show on my mac laptop and my iPhone, for example, but I am unable to connect. I know that I am inputting the correct password, but most of the time, we cannot get in. Sometimes we can..... Very frustrating! Also, due to the fact that I setup what I have over several years, I have multiple network names. I once tried to fix that issue, but was unable to tackle it due to my lack of understanding.
Here is what I am looking to accomplish:
1. Seamless wifi access throughout our house.
2. One name for our wifi network. Right now we have multiple names for multiple networks. Just want to simplify and have only one network. (I guess that an additional "guest network" would be ok, but not absolutely necessary.
Also, if you think I should disable the Xfinity wifi, and just rely on my mac wifi devices, I am perfectly fine with this. Just tell me how to do so.
I have no idea how where to start or how to set this up. I imagine that I would need to disconnect everything and reset and start from scratch? Can someone tell me what I should do? Even general advice would be helpful, but the more specific, the better, given my limited understanding. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!Your photo link is not working. Click on the camera icon to load an image. (Shorten the name of the file to something like WifiNetwork.jpg)
