Troubleshooting Address Book issues using Palm Desktop for Mac (v. 4.2.1) and a T3?

Can someone please make suggestions which would correct the following issues?
1) When printing an Address Book from my Mac, the information in the "title" field prints twice. (I have checked my Preferences settings & reviewed how I have entered the information, etc. and everything is in order; also, an Address CARD DOES print correctly --- and --- after syncing to my T3 and then to my husband's PC, an Address Book prints correctly from the PC.)
2) After I have synced the Address Book from my Mac to my T3, the "zip code" entries appear BEFORE the "city" entries on the T3. (The zip codes appear correctly on my Mac and print out correctly.)
3) After I have synced the Address Book from my Mac to my T3, the "contacts" all appear in BLACK on my T3. Is there any way to show the different "contact categories" in COLOR on the T3 as they were originally entered in my Palm Desktop for Mac?

In advance, thank you, thank you, thank you to the person who saves me from this error! I have no idea what I've done to deserve this!?! So, thank you for helping!!!

    Post relates to: Palm Vx

I've seen a lot of people post a message that's basically like the problem I'm having. I'm sending this to everyone who had the same general type of question in hopes that my fix might cure your problem also.
My Palm Desktop (4.1.4) would open correctly the first time after installing, but after doing a hotsync it would crash every other time it was opened (using a Tungsten E). I'm running Windows XP Professional, and it would give an error saying "Windows XP has encountered an error and needs to close", or something like that.
I did the usual. Removed the program and reinstalled, which didn't work. I also went through the tedious process of uninstalling the software, then removing every registry entry by hand that referenced the Palm or Pocketmirror, which also didn't work.
I searched through the support files on palmone.com and found something that gave me an idea. It talked about removing a corrupted file to fix problems with the datebook. I hadn't been getting any errors pointing to a specific problem, but on a hunch I deleted the entire address folder out of the Palm directory. That did the trick!
A corrupted address book in the Palm Desktop software was keeping it from running. The problem was how to fix the corruption, which I eventually found on a menu option in the Palm Desktop software.
Below is the fix that worked for me. Caution! Only do this if you have all of the current info in your Palm, because it will erase what's on your Palm Desktop.
    1. Go to your Palm folder on your pc (default install location is c:\palm) and open the folder for your user.
    2. Delete the address, datebook, expense, memopad, note pad and todo folders.
    3. Open the Palm Desktop program.
    4. Do a hotsync.
    5. Important! Don't click on anything else in the Palm Desktop after doing the hotsync. If you change to one of the areas that has corrupted data, it will immediately crash.
    6. Right after doing the hotsync, click Tools on the top menu in the Palm Desktop, then Options. Click on the Tools tab and then click Check Now to fix the corrupted data.
    7. Click OK.
That should hopefully get you running again. Let me know if that worked for you.

  • Suddenly ICal & Address Book stopped syncing with Outlook for Mac

2 days ago, ICal and Address Book stopped syncing with Outlook for Mac 2011.  I still have full functionality of Email in Outlook.
What is wrong and how can I fix it?

Any solution here yet? I have the same issue. After upgrading to Yosemite Outlook for mac kept requiring me to "rebuild identity database"
I did this many times so there were many new identities.
Finally I researched and found out that after the Yosemite update outlook would rebuild identity and once you do that there is a mismatch of your email account in outlook which just needs to be deleted and re-added to fix.
Now since then my outlook contacts and apple address book do not speak to each other.
If I make a new contact on my iphone and sync with my mac it will appear in apple address book.
If I make a new contact in outlook it will not appear on the iPhone.
So the phone is communicating and syncing with apple address book but wherever the apple address book goes to find the outlook contacts it must be using one of the older "identities"
Also now when I am in outlook and go from email to contacts it takes about 20 seconds to open the 5,300 contacts and it used to be instant.
Is there a way to view where outlook is getting the data? When I go into Outlook Preferences, Sync Services, "On My Computer:" is the one that is chosen so that should be good.
    Any help?

  • Using Address Book Exporter to move Address Book Contacts to Palm Desktop

I have had strangely mixed results using "Address Book Exporter" to create files that can be imported into Palm Desktop.
I really want to export all 1200 of my Address book cards to my new Treo 700P. Too complex?
I set up a new group in my Address Book and placed about 400 cards in it. I then used Address Book Exporter to export all of these records using template "Palm Desktop" onto a .txt file on my hard drive.
When I opened my Palm Desktop application and clicked on import, I first had to cause the dialogue box to show all files rather than just "readable files" in order for the exported files to be available. When I clicked on the file of 400 Address book cards that I had exported, I got the dialogue box similar to FileMaker where you have to line up the receiving fields in the Palm Desktop application with the fields in the file that Address Book Exporter created.
When I set the "fields" drop-down menu to "addresses" and set the "Delimiters" drop-down menu to "Palm Desktop", everything just lined up automatically. No futher adjustments were needed. I just clicked OK and the 400 records were transferred to my Palm Desktop Address list - ready to further transfer to my new Treo 700P - successfully.
But when I went through this exact same routine, instead exporting all of the cards in my Address book, when I got to the last step and set the two drop down menus - the "fields" drop-down menu to "addresses" and set the "Delimiters" drop-down menu to "Palm Desktop" - nothing happened. The fields in the exported file did not line up at all. The created export file I opened showed only one "superfield' with all the data in it (just as the earlier example had, at first) which would not change to all of the fields needed to line up with the Palm Desktop importing fields as had happened in the first example.
Why the two different reactions to what seems to be the same routines? Does Address Book Exporter have a cap on the size of the export it can handle?
    I just don't understand it.

  • Why wont my Mac Address Book overwrite my Palm Desktop????

I have spent the last few days messy about with this bloody isync and my treo 650 trying to configure the address books in the way i would like.
yesterday i managed to finally back up my palm top (treo 650) and merge it with my mac address book. the only problem with this was that there were a lot of duplicate names, or names from the address book that didnt have numbers etc etc.
Anyway, the good thing was that i now had all of my contacts from my phone into my mac address book.
this morning i spent hours going through my now complete mac address book weeding out and duplicates, and basically making it perfect.
now i cant figure out how to overwrite my treo and my palm desktop on my mac with my mac address book contacts!!!! its driving me crazy!
i am not worried about ical, or any of the other things syncing (although i suppose it would be a bonus) i just want to get my address book contacts on my treo and to overwrite the old messy version of palm desktop that has all of the duplicates in it.
any ideas? i am running OSX 10.4.8 isync 2.3 and have palm desktop 4.2.1
    many thanks
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

not quite sure what has happened now. i backed up the address book and exported the v cards (when you said select all in the left most sidebar did you mean select all of the groups or just the group called 'all'? i selected just the group called all).
i then imported them fine into palm desktop using the methods you said except that in my mac address book i had 586 cards and in palm desktop it only seems to say i have 312.
also when i was copying them it asked it i wanted to keep the new or old version with the only differences i could see between the new and the old cards being that it now said CATEGORIES: Palm in the notes section. i said yes to replacing all of the old ones with these new palm ones.
when i went back to the address book afterwards, it now seems to have taken a lot of various addresses out of the various groups i had them set up in. they are all still there in 'all' though so at least thats something.
i also seem to have some random duplicates in palm desktop.
i have also noticed that if for example in mac address book you dont fill in the first name in the first name box and the surname in the surname box (ie you write the first name and the surname in the first name box) then this can cause problems when you try and display stuff alphabetically in palm desktop.
i have some contacts with just names and emails, and some with numbers, emails etc etc. could this cause problems? i am also wondering if each card isnt set up in exactly the same format, could this cause problems in palm desktop (ie the order you have mobile, home, email etc listed on each card?)
still not sure why i only have almost half of my numbers though!?
    can you help?
    many thanks

  • Address book transfer from Palm 3x to Mac Address Book Lion

Have a vintage Palm3x synched with a vintage Dell Inspiron 8300 desktop computer using XP.  Recently aquired a Mac Book Pro with the new Lion OS.  Is there any way to transfer the address book and memos from the old machine to the new?  Apple recommended trying to transfer via a flash drive using the .csv format.  When I tried to export the data from the Palm Desktop OS 3.0.1 to the flash drive, I got a message: :  "Export error, *.csv contains an invalid path".  Heard from another source that Palm 3X is incompatible with Lion OS anyway, and to try to export to Microsoft Outlook on the old Dell first and then to attempt to synch with the Mac from Outlook...
Any ideas on how this might be done, and if so, what exact steps should I take?  Should I still attempt to sync with Outlook with .csv format? Tried this, but couldn't find the appropriate folder to export to - under the C: drive, there were only about 6 or 8 options, none of which seemed to have anything to do with Outlook.
    Post relates to: Palm IIIx

I tried going to the application support folder to get the address book to transfer from my iMac with Leopard to my Powerbook with Tiger. It didn't work for me either. So here's what I did and it worked like a charm:
Select all contacts in each separate group in your address book on your iMac and drag them individually to a thumb or flash drive. This will create a vcard for each of the groups. ( I had 8 groups). Plug the drive into your Powerbook, add the name of each group you are transferring, and drop each group into the proper group on the Address book. This essentially copies each V-Card from one computer to the other. If you have obsolete addresses on your Powerbook, they will be automatically updated. This may be too late to help you, but perhaps someone else may have the same problem.

  • BB desktop for Mac Does not work Curve and G5 OSX 10.5

The RIM software simply does not work very well. I will keep it to update software, but as a product to sync my data between my BB and my 2 macs, it simply does not do what is needed.
Sync did not move the Address Book groups data over. The groups moved to the BB, but the groups were empty. Most of the address book contacts did have the group information in each file, but I could not filter by group as each group was empty. Also, a disturbing number of entries were duplicated, with the duplicated entries missing the group information.
The sync from the iCal application did not seem to go very well either as I received error messages on my Mac.
I am disappointed that RIM would not have a 32 bit version available for OS 10.2 - 10.5 and a 64 bit version for 10.6
I am surprised and disappointed that RIM would release a product with less functionality than the Mark/Space offering, and have a lack of bluetooth syncing.
I have gone back to "The Missing Sync" as that product does work and their support is very good. Unfortunately I had to play around with setting up a test account with no data in iCal and Address Book to zero out the errors that the RIM product put into my BB. I then had to do a second overwrite, this time with my main Mac account and my iCal and Address Book data.
My BB is back to running and syncing, but not on the RIM software.
I hope that RIM will revisit the Mac software and provide a product that answers the needs of the Mac community.

  • Using Parallels Desktop for Mac

I have a Mac 10.5.8. I also am running Leopard. I want to be able to run Windows XP. I'm scared of getting a virus using Windows. So my question is this. Can I partition off space on my Mac, using Windows with Parallel 5? So if i get a virus that I can't get rid of, I can just rid myself of the partition. Is this possible?
    Thank You!

Windows viruses will affect Windows, not the Mac. Parallels creates a pseudo-disk by creating a sparsebundle disc image. The disc image is independent of OS X in the sense that a virus infecting the Windows system on the disc image cannot migrate to the Mac anymore than it could if you had a separate PC.
That said you can use Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition on your hard drive then install Windows on that partition. You can then create a Parallels virtual machine that uses the Windows installation on the Boot Camp partition.
For clarification 10.5.8 is a version of Leopard, not a Mac model.

  • Can I use Palm Desktop 4.2.1 with Snow Leopard?

I had a Visor Pro, which unfortunately was stolen along with my Mac PowerBook G4.  I have ordered a new Mac laptop (MacBook Pro), but I am not going to be able to replace the Visor.
I want to be able to continue using the Palm Desktop application - I had version 4.2.1 for the Mac. I have 10 years of information in that program, I don't know one better and would like to continue to use it, Visor or no Visor.
    I have several questions:
Is Palm Desktop Version 4.2.1 for Mac compatible and will run on a MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard?
If I do a "migration assistant" to move my applications to the new computer from my backup harddrive, will the Palm program move over okay and be useable? Or,---
Do I have to install Palm Desktop from scratch?  If so, can I download Palm Desktop from the website - I cannot find a page anywhere on palm.com to download the program.  Does anyone have a link?
Or, is the Palm Desktop program that would work with Snow Leopard a different version than the 4.2.1 I have?  And if so, how do I upgrade/move my data from 4.2.1 to a newer version?
I don't need to be able to HotSync as I no longer have the Palm device.  I just want to be able to use the desktop software.
    Thanks for the help,
    Tara

    Tara,
I could have been you asking a very similar question, although I'm still not sure on the solution after some of the knowledgeable answers.
Like you, I have been using Palm Desktop to store 5 years of information, and I'm getting ready to buy the new iMac who reps tell me is probably not compatible with Palm Software anymore or will not and I should find other alternatives to store all my information.
For instance, I use Palm as my date book and To Do List which I find very convenient.  Apple reps told me I could try getting used to iCal for this which I have been doing lately to try & get used to it.
Then there are my addresses.  I also use Palm to store all my basic addresses (some with E-mail, some without).  It was recommended to me to just use the address book that comes with the iMac.  I've never used it but I can see in itself, it's easy to add addresses.  My computer consultant also told me that she could easily transfer the addresses from those on Palm to my Thunderbird which I use with Firefox.  So, if all my addresses were transferred from my Palm to Thunderbird, then I would just have them on Thunderbird, but I find it easier navigating them in Palm.
The last thing I use Palm for and the most important is under the menu of "Memos".  For each category, I have created an alphabetized subject, like computers, legal, passwords, shopping (about 30 topics) and when I want to save important information, I go to that category and write as much or as little as a reference.  I wondered "which" application I would use in order to create a similar way of looking up information on subjects.
I copied/pasted it all into a simple word document but that's not really made for what I want.
The last time I went to an Apple store and explained what I wanted -- they were the ones who suggested to use iMac addresses to store my Palm addresses, iCal to use as a new calendar and to do list, and finally an application (on the dock) called "E-mail" where I could do a similar thing as I did on my Palm by creating a series of categories, and when I click on it, a memo page comes up where I can type anything I want to related to that topic.  It was demonstrated to me, altho I forgot how she did it, but although it was not meant for a function like that, it's easily done as with the Palm.  I told my computer consultant this.
She was concerned that I may not be able to use my Thunderbird G-mail system if I have all my info in iMac applications.  Yet if the addresses are in Thunderbird as well, I can't see why that would interfer.
Anyway, today she sent me this link & question and I start reading about a "sync" application and I would have no problem.  They also mentioned software called Benno, but told me to try and use Apple apps first instead of having to go out and buy a whole new application to replace the functions of Palm.
Ideally, I would love to continue to use Palm Desktop as I'm using it on this desktop, but I'm  not clear if I can.  If I can't, what might be my best solution given what I wrote.  I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Trudijane

  • Blackberry Desktop for Mac Is Not Complete - Still Have to Use PC Version Sometimes

Blackberry Desktop for Mac is incomplete in this way - if your OS gets wiped out (as it wants to do upon initial install, as it tries to update your BB OS) - and if it gets hung in the process - as happened to me - then the ONLY way to fix is to go BACK to a PC and use the PC version of Blackberry Desktop.
It's incredible, but that is what I learned.  I installed Blackberry Desktop for Mac.  It  wanted to initiate an OS upgrade first thing.  I allowed it to do so and it wiped out the OS on my Blackberry.  Leaving me with a 507 error.  I called Verizon.  They switched me to Blackberry.  Blackberry said I could only get clear of the 507 error by finding a PC - somewhere - and installing Blackberry Desktop for PC on that PC.
Blackberry then switched me back to Verizon, and they said that since I didn't have a PC, they had to send me a new Blackberry - and they had to charge me for it! (They said that the local Verizon store could not repair the OS).
I refused to pay $50+ for a new phone necessitated by the failure of Blackberry Desktop for Mac to be able to deal with a 507 error.  I spoke to Blackberry Support, again (this was about a 6 hour process), and they admitted that the provider - Verizon - did not support some sort of feature in the OS initialization process, meaning that Blackberry Dektop for Mac could not be used, one has to use Blackberry Desktop for PC no matter what in some circumstances (such as a 507 error upon OS upgrade).
Blackberry switched me back to Verizon.  This time, Verizon stated that the local Verizon store could upload a new OS.  So I shlepped off to the local Verizon store and, another hour later, they installed the new OS.
Once the new OS was installed, Blackberry Desktop for Mac was able to synch and works just fine (much better than PocketMac).  However, my fear is that when the next OS update comes out, if the same thing happens again (i.e., if the OS update freezes again), I will be left having to either look for a PC somewhere to run Blackberry Desktop for PC, or go to the Verizon store.
So, word to the wise.  Blackberry Desktop for Mac is not complete vis-a-vis Verizon.  It cannot be complete if they tell you that you have to use Blackberry Desktop for PC in certain circumstances.
    Gary

This is often the problem with the new features that Apple implement more and more for each functionalities and moving them to "the cloud" (iCloud).
Thus physically removing the files from the Mac makes the BBDM (logically) unable to sync with no-more existing files on the computer...
This is the case currently for the address book and iCal. I guess that new functionalities in iTunes might have the same effect. Haven't you enabled new features recently in iTunes?
    Like "iTunes match" for example?...
Please don't forget to mark as "solved" if your question is replied and to "like" a useful reply to your post ;-)

  • Importing Address Book & Calendar from Palm to Mac

I just got a new MacBook and would like to import my address book and calendar from my Palm to iCal and the Address Book on Mac. I tried unsuccessfully to import my Address Book and Calendar from Lotus Notes for PC and it although I exported it in the formats indicated available on Mac - nothing went into iCal or the Address book and importing it into Entourage was a complete disaster - it created over 285,000 useless records and locked up the Mac. So instead I've now installed Palm Desktop for Mac - and hope that I can sync my old Tungsten C (originally set up and synced for PC). If so, I'd like to export the Address Book and maybe the Calendar from the Palm Desktop to iCal and Mac Address Book. Is this possible? Has anyone done it? Everyone says Macs are easier than PCs and it's easy to bring over your stuff from PC - which has not exactly been my experience. Advice appreciated.

Thanks, I did look at the link. What is not clear to me is whether it can sync the data (address book and calendar - tho calendar is less important) from my Tungsten C that was previously always synced with a PC - to a MacBook now. Any information on that?

How can i backup Address Book & iCal using TM?

just back up your whole computer and those things will be backed up along with everything else. Time Machine is not well suited for cherrypicking just a few things to back up and it's a bad idea anyway. if you insist on backing up just those two things back up homedirectory/library/application support/address book and homdirectory/library/calendars.
