Troubleshooting Adobe Reader XI--help!!!

Something on my computer is blocking Adobe Reader XI from opening anything! I have tried everything. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. I even tried reinstalling Reader 9 to make sure my computer just wasn't acting up with Reader XI, but to no avail. I'm wondering if it's just a setting somewhere that I need to change and just haven't found it yet! Can someone please help me???

    Hi, could anyone let me know how to fix the problem in Adobe Reader X when you click Help from the menu bar followed by Adobe Reader X Help.  Instead of taking you to an Adobe help page via a web browser, you get the error; "Online Help content cannot be displayed.  Verify you can launch your web browser and have access to the Internet" message.
    I have uninstalled X and installed Adobe Reader 9 and this works fine and connects to the web.  I have read the link from vilcanator back in Jan 2011 which the reply takes you to
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/reader/using/reader_X_help.pdf which is for a local saved copy of the help file.
    However, surely the online help link should work otherwise updates to the help document will not be updated on the downloaded pdf copy.  This has been tested on XPSP3 and W7 Prof, and in IE8 and 9.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    F1 brings up the exact same message for me, "Online Help content cannot be displayed.  Verify you can launch your web browser and have access to the Internet".  The message appears within Adobe Reader X.  It doesn't reach the browser at all.
    When I click Help from the menu bar followed by Adobe Reader X Help, it will take around 5 seconds to have a think, and then show the message.  I've used the setup assistant to set to default and no change.  In Preferences, the Web browser Options for the Internet are all ticked,

    Adobe Reader X Help (F1) will not open.  The message I receive is:  "Online Help content cannot be displayed.  Verify you can launch your web browser and have access to the Internet."
    WinXP SP3
    no antivirus installed
    IE 8/Mozilla Firefox 3.6.13
    Protected Mode Enabled and Disabled
    Any ideas?

    Reader X does not ship with a help function other than Internet-based help.  There is a downloadable "help" PDF for reader X that can be referenced, but it is not accessed with the F1-Help function.  Maybe they will fix this some day.

    Here is the solution worked but not sure we can implement this or not.
    Installed Adobe AIR
    Installed Adobe Help Manager
    - Downloaded offline PDF
    Changed Adobe Reader EXE AcroRd32.exe compatibility settings to Windows XP SP3
    Launched Adobe Reader > Prompts "protected mode" windows to disable> Disabled Protected mode>Help working fine now
    Would you mind tell me the importance of Protected mode in New version of Adobe reader.

    My name is Scarlett with Dr. Indar M Jhamb’s office. I have version XI of Adobe Reader and it is not compatible with my EHR system. I was told by customer support with my EHR that we need to uninstall XI and install 9.5. Please help.

    I only have one problem.  I can no longer print a pdf from within adobe
    reader. My computer completely freezes up and I have to hold down the power
    button to restart which no one likes to do. I am running Adobe Reader
    11.0.09, Windows 7 with an HP Deskjet 6980. I have tried all the
    troubleshooting you have suggested in the forum: I can open Adobe Reader by
    itself so I have unchecked the Enable Protected Mode, I have checked for
    updates, I have run the "Repair Adobe installation" from within the program
    itself. I have even uninstalled 11.0.09 and installed version 10 and I
    still have the same problem.  I uninstalled 10 and reinstalled 11.0.09, so
    that's where I am at this point.

    So I have Adobe Reader installed on my laptop. When I try to open a PDF on Chrome it gives me a message saying that it is out of date. I go to the Adobe website to update it, everything runs great, but still can't open my PDF files. So I wanted to uninstall and then install it again. Went to Uninstall Program and I get a message saying "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" I click OK and then get another error message saying "The path C:\ProgramDate\Adobe\Setup (and so on) cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package "AcroRead.msi" in a folder from which you can install the product Adobe Reader XI (11.0.09). If I click on Cancel instead of OK, I get a popup from Windows Installer "The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it." Any ideas on how the hell I can fix this mess? Thanks!

  • Hijacking Safari by Adobe Reader, please help!

    After downloading Adobe Reader to my mac (OS X 10.9.1) Adobe starts to opel PDF documents instead of descreet Preview. It is slower and want stil to answer some stupid questions. I`m average user, please help me, how to change it back to open PDF files in Safari by Preview. Thanks a lot Petr

    My O/S is Windows 7. Recently I used Windows Installer Clean Up and it removed the Adobe Reader and other Adobe files.
    I have tried to download the current Adobe Reader but get a message that it is already installed on my computer. I have checked in the Add/Remove and there is no Adobe there. I have searched my C: drive and no Adobe files. Where can it be? I cannot read any .pdf files and cannot get it to down load.
    Can anyone HELP PLEASE.

    I have the same problem, but I can't uninstall Adobe Reader 9.  I have XP operating system.  I get a message about "package not available" or some such.  It MAY be incompatibility with MS Internet Explorer.

    I have your IdeaTab 2910A-F; an androld tablet.  I like it, but am finding it very difficult sometimes to figure out how to do anything!
    I just downloaded the Adobe Reader pak onto my tablet- so I can use bookmarks (hopefully) when reading e-books. I don't htink the Docs-To-Go version I have gives capability for bookmarks - I cdrtainly don't know where such access is if it does.
    But the next problem is this Adobe Pak is sitting right there in my Misc storage and I can't figure out how to open/install it or do anything with it.
    Can someone please, please help?  I'll try to stop back and see if I can find if anyone responds.  Please and thank you.

    Thanks so much!!!  I was able to get the Adobe installed and up and running. I downloaded i thought from adobe.com.
    Sadly, I found the program disappointing.  In Docs-ToGo I was able to control the size of text - but haven't figured out yet how I can do it if so in Adobe.  And I haven't yet figured out bookmarks, which is why I wanted it.
    Anyway, at least I have the program up and running, so maybe there's a way to do those things...
    Or if anyone knows a way to do bookmarks in Docs-to-Go (that is, IF the version I have does so) - feel free to let me know!
    At any rate, thanks again for helping me get it going!

    I have Adobe Reader 10 on Windows 7.  Lately I have not been able to read PDF through internet explorer.  I also cannot create a Pdf from Adobe even though I have a subscription.  I tried to update to Adobe 11 but it would not let me.  Please help.

    As I wrote, PDF files should open in Adobe Reader; if they open in Internet Explorer, then the file association is wrong.  It may have corrected itself by your reinstalling Adobe Reader - please check it.

    I don't think the Java update pop-up was related to Adobe Reader, but I suggest that you keep Java updated to the latest version from http://www.java.com/
