Troubleshooting advice anyone? Unable to get still photo embeded in menu template.

I have Premiere Elements 9. I have completed the video and am trying to use a template from Adobe that has a spot for a still picture. I imported one and it shows on the computer but when I burn the DVD there is just a big black empty box. I tried making the photo 1000 x 750 pixils and that didn't work. I even tried using a photoshop file thinking maybe it was just proprietary but to no avail. Between this and the fact that the program is so unstable that it crashes every time I try to do something, my frustration level is pretty high. It probably crashed nearly 20 times just trying to make the video. Is this normal? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You came to the right place. What you described is an old story and known issue with Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1. The issue is maintaining the replacement background in the end product DVD-VIDEO on DVD Disc. The remedy is to apply an audio background to the menu in disc menu customization area of the project (either audible or muted audio file).
Some would have you chasing down still image resolution et al. No way.

Add On.. With regard to program stability...have you downloaded and install the 9.0.1 Update and are running that as your program. If not...

Are you trying to back up the photos to icloud or restore a backup to the iphone?
"off my iphone" - this is where I'm confused. Are you trying to get the photos off the iphone (because perhaps you are running low on space)? If so, you should sync the photos to your computer, then you can delete them from the phone.

How can I get still photos to appear in menu templates?

I can't get photos to appear in the menu templates in Premiere Elements 11, whether I drag them in or Browse them out. I tried two different templates, and 5 different photo file formats. From what I'm reading online, this is a known bug that has been around since v. 9. How is that possible that a major element of a top-of-the-line video editor doesn't even work? Is there a bug fix or a workaround?

Thank you for your kind response. Now that I’ve calmed down some, I’m willing to keep trying, to a point at least. I’ll try responding to your questions.
I failed to mention that I did update to 12.1 before my last failure. And I still had the problem. So far, I have only deleted the Prefs file and not the entire folder, mostly because the program went into permanent crash mode and I couldn’t even get it to run, let alone try editing my project. That’s when I reinstalled it.
The project is simply a PowerPoint presentation with a soundtrack, which I exported from PowerPoint as an mp4 file. It’s only 7:30 minutes long. So it’s a very tiny file. There is only one menu page and no scene menus.
Yes, I have successfully burned it to disk, once with the gray rectangle on the menu (to confirm whether it would show as a gray rectangle on the TV screen, which it did), and once with the picture on the menu, the one time I succeeded in getting the picture to appear in the menu.
I have tried the picture in multiple image formats, but the one I mainly try is a .bmp that PE generated using the snapshot tool, or whatever it’s called in PE. I figured if PE won’t even load images it created, the Adobe programmers need to start back with square one.

Can't get still photos that have motion key frames to stop "shaking."

I am currently trying to make a video comprised soley of still photos for a friend that has recently lost his 16 year old daughter to a tragic accident. I'm trying to get this done by Saturday June 13th. I'm setting motion keyframes throught the viewers "motion" tab and when I play the final result I see in almost every picture popping and shaking while in motion. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a specific way to upload the pics or format them so this doesn't happen? I'm using FCE 4 with an iMac G5 (pre-INTEL). If someone could help me with this I would really be grateful. Most of these errors are related to trying to view the results on a progressive computer monitor instead of an interlaced tv set.
You could export the whole movie and reimport it as a single item. apply a 2 pixel vertical blur to the whole thing, render, print.

- If the photos were taken by or saved to the iPod just use the computer's camera/image capture software to get them from the iPod.

How do I get synced photo albums transferred from iphone to my mac?

I recently had to replace my hard drive on my Macbook and now that I have replaced the drive I would like to recover the pictures on my iphone.
I was able to get the camera roll photos using image capture but I am unable to get the photo albums that were synced from my previous iphoto library. My iPhone 4S is jailbroken so I could go in via SSH but the problem is that I cannot even locate the photos.
Is there a way to get those photos back onto my Macbook?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The photos "synched" from a computer to your iPhone aren't really the original photos. They're low resolution thumbnails suitable for display on the phone, but not practical for anything else. If you didn't bother to save the original photos before replacing your computer's hard drive, your pictures are gone.

OS X does not recognize DV camera in still photo mode.

Using iMovie, I can import DV movies from my Samsung SC-D453 mini-DV camcorder over a Firewire connection. But when I switch the camera to photo mode, OS X tells me there is nothing connected to the Firewire port, and I cannot import still photos from the Mini-DV camcorder. The camcorder has a USB 2 port, but I do not have a USB 2 port on the G4 so I cannot connect the camera over USB. USB is what I use with my Olympus digital camera to import still photos. Works fine. Any ideas on how I can get still photos from a mini-DV camcorder over a Firewire connection?

Welcome to the Discussions.
USB 2.0 is often backward-compatible with USB 1.1.
They also use the same connector cables.
You could try using your Mac's USB 1.1 ports.
It might work, but will be slow.

If the iPhone is still working and the photos are in the Camera Roll (i.e., taken on the iPhone) then, when you connect the iPhone to your PC, it should be recognized as a Camera and Windows should start AutoPlay.

Help! iMovie isn't importing still photos properly. I get multiple copies of the same photo!

Hello all. iMovie is acting very ornery, and I need help -- or I'll never get my 2011 slideshow completed in time!
I am trying to import several still photos into my movie project. In the past, I have simply dragged and dropped the appropriate photos from the iMovie photo browser into my project. Everything works — the way it should be with Apple products.
Suddenly, iMovie doesn't want to play nice. No matter what photos I drag into the timeline, iMovie inserts multiple copies of one of the video clips that's already in my movie. The photos don't show up. If I play the movie, I get a blank screen where the photo/video should be.
Is anyone else experiencing this probem? Is there an easy way to fix it?
The following picture and text should help explain what I'm doing:
Here are the steps I'm taking:
1. I select one or several photos from the iMovie photo viewer (on the bottom right-hand side of the window.) -- In this case, I've selected 10 very different photos.
2. I drag the photos into the project.
3. iMovie appears to import the photos.
4. I see 10 identical thumbnails in my project. They appear to be the same as the very last video clip in the project. However, when I scrub these thumbnails, or play the movie, I see a black screen.
I've tried dragging the photos directly from iPhoto, or from the desktop, and still the same thing happens.

Thanks wesehrt. I had one jpeg such as "ALL_CAPS.jpeg" --- straight from my iPhone, imported/tweaked in Aperture no less ... and renamed it without the underscore and it worked.
But I wasn't getting multiple copies or black screens. The image would import and I'd see the thumbnail in the project timeline, but what actually rendered was the last frame of the preceding video clip.
Bizarre bugs with photos importation here.

In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.

There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory (that is, the memory chips on the logic board) and virtual memory (one or more files on the startup volume.) That activity is relatively slow and causes the whole system to be less responsive. It can happen for two reasons:
A long-running process with a memory leak (a kind of bug)
Not enough memory for your usage pattern
Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
These instructions are for OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks.") The procedure may be slightly different for earlier versions of OS X.
When you notice the swap activity, open the Activity Monitor application and select All Processes from the View menu, if it's not already selected. Select the Memory tab. Click the heading of the Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The processes named "Safari Web Content" render web pages for Safari. They use a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider them prime suspects.
Another process often implicated in memory leaks is "inkjet4" or "inkjet8," which is a component of the HP printing software. If it's present, force-quit the process in Activity Monitor to solve the problem temporarily. Empty the print queues in the Printers & Scanners preference pane (which has a slightly different name in each recent version of OS X.) If you don't use an HP printer, remove the software. Otherwise, if the problem is recurrent, update the software (which may not help) or contact HP support.
"Wired" memory should be a small part of the total. That memory is not swapped, but it makes less physical memory available which may then result in swapping. If you have a lot of wired memory, that's usually an indication of a memory leak in a third-party program that modifies the operating system at a low level. Ask for guidance in that case.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details.
