Troubleshooting display on TiBook 1 GHz

Hi all. This is a follow-up to a post I made last Jan., '07. I broke the display on my DVI TiBook. Replaced it once and that display lit up but was also broken. Have now replaced a second time and the monitor shows dim images but no backlight. When I use an external monitor everything works great, so the logic board seems OK. I've used macdan's website for how to do it guidance thanks to links posted on this forum. My question is this: what else might be the culprit, beside connections, for the dim screen? The person I bought the second screen from assures me the LCD was working fine for him prior to shipping it to me so I am ruling out a dead backlight. What faulty parts should I consider replacing, in order from most to least likely? Thanks in advance for ideas...

Hi, sisujoel. The inverter may be the most likely culprit. It's also easier to replace than the cable that leads from it to the backlight tube, which you might have damaged during the disassembly/reassembly process. I suggest taking the inverter board out and putting it back in again, double-checking its connections as you go. If that doesn't help, replace the inverter. Admittedly, if the inverter was working OK when you put the first (defective) replacement display in, it seems unlikely that it would have gone bad since then: that's what makes me suspect you might have a loose connection or a damaged cable.

That would at least partially explain it.
These MacBook Pros drew more power than the power brick could readily supply, and so would only run at top speed when the power brick was supplemented by the battery.
Though the applicable tech note has been removed, it stated:
"If the battery is removed from a MacBook or MacBook Pro, the computer will automatically reduce the processor speed. This prevents the computer from shutting down if it demands more power than the A/C adapter alone can provide."

Macbook dropped - how to troubleshoot display problem

My daughter dropped her macbook from about 3 feet. Since then, the lcd lights up uniformly but is just blank. The computer drives an external display and otherwise seems to function normally. How do you troubleshoot the source of the problem? LCD, inverter cable, other.

Yes, users do have hlog key and I suspect one a couple of things are happening
- other receptionists are logging out of huntgroup
- the call is coming in from somone who is not dialing the huntpilot number but dialing the reception number direct
- the other receptionists are busy so there is nowhere else to route the call (this one is unlikely since there are about 6 numbers in the LG
I have pulled off some traces from a reported problem time but strangely when I search for the huntpilot number it is not showing up. I've tried the sdi and sdl traces.
I am a bit new to this type of troubleshooting so it is likely I'm just doing it wrong (I'm trying to use notepad since I cant seem to get a hold of TripleCombo at the moment.
As I mentioned above, any assistance on helping me troubleshoot this issue would be much appreciated

How do I troubleshoot display port

I've an HP monitor that I connect to my MacBook Pro using an Apple adaptor. Never had a problem until I recently diconnected by laptop.
Now the monitor no longer detects a signal from the laptop on display mode. I've rebooted both the laptop and monitor and disconnected/reconnected the cables. Still no juice. I don't know if it's a problem with the adaptor or the port. How do I troubleshoot the port?

The font looks fine for your palette, you have just encountered some swatches from someone using a OS different than English. Just use the command to select unused colors adn delte, or change the names if they are used. If the colros keep coming back look into a post deleted global colors, as that incremental numbering naming convention looks similar to that.

Search troubleshooter displays bogus message

In "Indexing Options" of Control Panel, there is a troubleshooter. When run, it reports "incorrect permissions on windows search directories". It shows this message regardless of whether you are having trouble or not.
The problem is one of my customers is having a real issue (can't find things in Outlook), but the troubleshooter reports only this (bogus) message.
Is there any way to eliminate this message and/or get the troubleshooter to find the real problem?

So the issue here is only one user can't find things in outlook? Have you tried to rebuild the index?
Control panel->indexing options->advanced->index settings->rebuild. Here is a reference:

If the above doesn't work, then please change the permission of the folder C:\ProgramData\Windows7Index\Search if it exists.

For OS X Lion and earlier, follow these steps:
Press and hold the Power button for several seconds to turn off your Mac.
Turn on your Mac.
As soon as your Mac starts up, hold down the Shift key to start up with a Safe Boot into Safe Mode. Note: If you are using a third-party external keyboard and cannot start with a Safe Boot, try using an Apple keyboard instead.
If your Mac has another kernel panic starting up, or while in Safe Mode, go to the "Troubleshooting a recurring kernel panic" section below.
If your Mac starts up without a kernel panic after a Safe Boot, restart by choosing Apple menu () > Restart…, then let it start up normally.
Important: If the Mac has another kernel panic within a few weeks, refer to the "Troubleshooting a recurring kernel panic" section below.
Note: If the hardware and software on the Mac checks out as OK, yet recurring kernel panics still occur, it is possible that something on the network is sending the Mac malformed network packets. In these situations, check the devices on the network. Make sure the router's firmware is up-to-date, and that the router is functioning. Refer to the router's manufacturer for service and support.

Caller Display Decor 2200

My elderly Mum has bought herself a new phone with caller display so she knows who's ringing her but it doesn't seem to be working, we registered for Privacy at Home early on Thursday morning and it should have been active within 24 hours, I've checked she's got the full numbers entered (incl STD) and she has and I've looked in the manual to see if we've have to switch caller display on but can't find anything. Has anyone got any ideas?

G4 display behaving oddly.....

The display on my 933 ghz G4 is playing up, the machine turns on, the screen immediately turns white then a black ink stain effect takes over, until the screen turns black. I used Target mode to boot the hard drive into my G3, that worked ok, so the question is, is the display dead, or maybe just a cable ?

iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
Display does not go into landscape mode
Remember that photos, webpages, and applications will not change viewing-orientation modes when iPhone is lying flat. Hold iPhone vertically to switch between portrait and landscape modes or vice versa.
Verify that rotation lock is not on.
To test, open the Calculator application while holding the iPhone vertically (portrait mode). The standard calculator should appear. Then rotate the iPhone to a horizontal position (landscape mode), and the scientific calculator should appear.
Note: Certain apps and features may support only one mode, landscape or portrait. For example, the Videos app plays video in landscape mode, and Reminders uses only portrait mode. Not all applications on iPhone use landscape mode.

New DVD-RW not recognized by iTunes

I replaced the original DVD-R in my 1 GHz TiBook with a Pioneer DVD drive model DVR-K05. Do I need to update drivers with this new optical drive? iTunes doesn't recognize the new writer and still lists the old Matshita UJ-815 DVD-R as the CD burner. When I use Toast 5 I can burn discs no problem. Thanks in advance for troubleshooting advice.

Once you're reviewed the recommendations in regards to updates, this portion of the section on "No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering" is useful:
Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
Restart your computer.
If you tried all of these steps for your display and the video issues persist, contact Apple technical support or take your Apple computer to the nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).

Testing a 15" screen on a 12" PB

I have a 12"aluminum Powerbook, (1.33 ghz) and a 15" TiBook (1 ghz). I received a 15" aluminum dispaly from a 1.5 ghz machine that I'd like to test. Can I use either the 12" aluminum or the 15" titanium to test the display? I can't tell from the take-apart manuals if the connectors are different and do not want to go through all the work of tearing either machine apart to test the display if I won't be able to hook the machine up to the display.

It will not work like that because the connector in the PB G4 12" and 15" titanium are completely different than aluminum 15".
The inverter and LVDS (data) cable in aluminum 15" have different connector than either of your units.
You will need another PB g4 15" to test your display.

Satellite P300 keeps crashing and giving me blue screens

I got a Satellite P300, operating on Windows Vista home premium and its provided with a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650.
My laptop keeps crashing and giving me blue screens and windows says its the cause ls my graphic driver and the eror message is Atikmdag.
I tried everything (i think), i re-installes windows but this i had to do with making a recovery cd with the current settings because in some kinda way my F8 function doesn't work so i couldn't restore my Windows from my hard drive.
I also got the latest Ati drivers, this doesn't help either, i also re-installed them and tried to run my laptop on the windows drivers, this doesn't help either.
I really don't know what to do, can some one help me please?

Are you sure that you are running video drivers downloaded from a Toshiba site? Unfortunately the drivers may not be the root of the problem so it is important to eliminate them as the cause. AMD's recommended driver removal procedure is at [http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU57RemoveOldGraphicsDrivers.aspx] and if you follow that with an installation of Toshiba drivers then your laptop should be in an as supplied state

Java is now owned and supported by Oracle. The currently supported version is 7_45.

Select the JRE (Java Runtime Environment) for OS X, the one that ends with .dmg. Download and install per instructions. You will then need to enable the Java browser plugin in the Java preference panel, located in the System Preferences app.
However, I visited the link you provided, found the Mac OS X Mavericks version but it didn't say anything about needing Java. Are you sure?

Looking for users of HP Envy 17-3270nr, Windows 8.1

My PC has a problem that cannot control the screen brightness after upgrading the OS to Windows 8.1, the brightness is always at maximum level. I have been searching around on the internet for months, trying many ways/ tricks posted there but without success.
