In an Adaptive Session Redundancy (ASR) environment, if you run traffic to a configuration that contains discrepancies between the redundant indexes on the two CSSs, the CPU utilization for each processor on the CSS may climb to an abnormal level (at 2000 flows/second, approximately 50 percent utilization for each processor).
If you set the logging level to notice-5 or higher, the SCM utilization may peak at approximately 90 percent because each connection generates a redundant index mismatch log entry. For example:
AUG 7 14:12:15 3/1 1124272 SLR-5: Rejected. Redundant global rule index (7) not found.
This might probably the reason for the High CPU utilization.
The CSS 11800 with CSS8-SCM Redundant System Control Module (SCM) is designated for end of sales.
The recommended replacements for the Cisco CSS 11800 include the Cisco CSS 11500 Series Content Services Switch or the Content Switching Module (CSM)an integrated services module for the Cisco Catalyst. 6500 Series Switch and the Cisco 7600 Internet Router.

High CPU usage, Live Ultra for Notebooks
I've been using the Live Ultra for Notebooks for a while, and it has consistently high CPU usage. It breaks down to about 50-60% for the driver (V0070Vid.sys thread, in the "System" process) and then a bit more (+5%) for DPC's. Combined with the host application (Skype, 25% CPU) means the whole thing essentially takes over my CPU.
Is this typical CPU usage for this webcam? I've used other ones, and I seem to remember that CPU usage was a lot lower. I have this problem on 2 different computers.
AMD Sempron 300+
GB Ram
Windows 2000 SP4
Please post what webcam, CPU, OS, and about how much CPU % your webcam takes. I'd like to see if these results are normal. Thanks.I also have a Toshiba laptop with Vista Home Basic. I tried to install the "BETA" Vista drivers for this camera (VF0070) and it says the driver is only for Vista 32-bit and 64-bit. Is there a solution to this? Should I just return this and go buy a Logitech instead?

Why does Lightroom 4.3 use very high cpu when waiting for user to click OK?
I saved metadata for 52 photos.
Lightroom 4.3 couldn't save metadata for 2 of the photos and opened a window to tell me so. (It had no problem saving metadata on second attempt.)
While it waited for my response and wasn't doing any work, it was using over 50% of my CPU.
Why?
Windows 7 is 32-bit Professional.

I have enough experience with LR to know what to expect for various activities.
Previews for all photos had been rendered long before I initiated the Save Metadata.
Metadata for 50 of the 52 files had already been written.
The high cpu had gone on for at least 5 minutes. I switched to another app imediately after initiating the Save Metadata for the 52 files and only went back to LR when I heard my CPU fan running for a long time.
When I got back to LR, I saw the "Could not save metadata" window. I clicked "Show in Library" and OK. As soon as I did that, CPU usage went back to normal.
I've experienced the exact same scenario, where LR can't save metadata for all photos and I've never had LR get stuck consuming a very large amount of CPU.
As a test, I selected 118 other photos, changed metadata for all of them and then selected all and saved metadata. LR took about 20 seconds to save metadata for all 118 and LR CPU usage never went above 17%. The difference is that LR did not show the "Could not save metadata" window. -
Desktop Window Manager high CPU utilization
I have several Windows 2012 servers that are showing high CPU utilization (70% or higher) coming from the Desktop Window Manager. I do not have the Desktop Experience feature installed on these machines. The interesting thing is that the process
for dwm.exe does not show up as a service that I can stop or restart. I've read through the various posts about re-registering dmw.exe so that the service shows up again, but nothing has worked. Since these are application and file servers with
no need for regular desktop use, I don't really need any fancy desktop graphics or performance. I have the Advanced Performance Options set to 'Background services'. Can anyone tell me how to stop dwm.exe or at least reduce it's CPU footprint?
Thanks,
JoeHi Joe,
Based on my research, On Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012, DWM is used at all times and cannot be disabled.
For more detailed information, please refer to this article:
Desktop Window Manager is always on:
To troubleshoot the high usage of CPU, I would like to recommend to follow this article to collect and analyse the relevant log files and dump files:

I hope this helps. -
Query to find adhoc queries taking high cpu on server
Hi,
I want to find all the adhoc and other queries consuming high cpu on sql server. sys.dm_exec_cahched_plan will only have cached queries and not the currently running ones.Hi Preetha7,
According to your description, if you want to identify the most expensive SQL Server queries based on the cumulative CPU cost, you can use the DMVs of the sys.dm_exec_sql_text , the sys.dm_exec_query_plan and sys.dm_exec_query_stats. For example, you can
refer to the following T-SQL statement.
SELECT TOP 20
qs.sql_handle,
qs.execution_count,
qs.total_worker_time AS Total_CPU,
total_CPU_inSeconds = --Converted from microseconds
qs.total_worker_time/1000000,
average_CPU_inSeconds = --Converted from microseconds
(qs.total_worker_time/1000000) / qs.execution_count,
qs.total_elapsed_time,
total_elapsed_time_inSeconds = --Converted from microseconds
qs.total_elapsed_time/1000000,
st.text,
qp.query_plan
FROM
sys.dm_exec_query_stats AS qs
CROSS APPLY sys.dm_exec_sql_text(qs.sql_handle) AS st
CROSS apply sys.dm_exec_query_plan (qs.plan_handle) AS qp
ORDER BY qs.total_worker_time DESC
Or you can run the "Performance - Top Queries By Total CPU Time" report in SSMS. In addition, you can use SQL Server Extended Events session for troubleshooting the high consumed of CPU time. For more information about finding currently session that is costing
high CPU.

High CPU from w3wp.exe process
We are running custom code on SharePoint 2013 and are experiencing very high CPU related to a w3wp.exe process. We have run a debug diagnostic report. The question I have is, can Microsoft help us narrow down the problem through a paid
support incident or will they just ignore it due to the custom code?If it resolves it for about 20 minutes, then it sounds very likely that it is some kind of timer job that has gone bad. Check the logs and the what is listed in the timer history listing in CA.
Depending on your App Pool settings it may keep a hold on memory.
I will refer below two links for debugging you

NSPIbind process High CPU usage
Hi all,
We have a exchange forest and 3 sub domains in that forest. In total we have around the 34000 mailboxen.
No we experience problems with all the domain controllers (also GC) that they have huge cpu usage. when we run a AD diagnostic in the perfmon we see that the LSASS is a part of the problemen and a process called NSPIbind (name service provider interface?).
When I try to look for people with simulair issues there is just one other person with this problem..

We also tried his suggestions but there is no improvement.
We need help....
- Windows 2008 R2
- Exchange 2010
- 1 forest, 3 domains (8 domain controllers, all GC)Hi Sader82,
Based on your description, I can find that you have refer to a suggestion from a similar question. The hotfix package (KB2500682)
was mentioned. Did you mean you have installed it and enable the NSPI caching feature, however there was no improvement?
In addition, please refer to the following articles and troubleshoot this issue.

Hope this helps.

Hello,
I have got an issue with one of my routers having high CPU. Could someone please guide me in troubleshooting high CPU. What I should be checking on the router and what could be the cause of high CPU.
ThanksHi,
There could be many reasons for high CPU. For high CPU on the router it could be process causing the high CPU or traffic (interrupts). Therefore first thing is to check if the CPU is being caused by some process or it is interrupts.
Few checks that you could quickly do on the router.
1. Show proc cpu sorted 5sec | ex 0.00 << This will confirm if there is process involved or interrupt.
2. Show stacks >> Any recent crash happened
3. Show ip traffic >> Any high amount of traffic which you think causing the issues.
4. Check if there is any debug running on the router.
5. Show interface switching >> Check if the how packets are being process.
Below document would be helpful in isolating the issue.

Hello,
I'm having almost 60-70% CPU utilization on a 6500 core for almost a day now. However cant seem to figure out what is overwhelming the CPU utlization. show cpu process sorted does not provide much information with top two processes being 'slcp process' - about 2-3% & spanning tree process which goes between 1-2%. The major change in the network was introduction of Nexus 2232 (10G) switches in the DC which are connected to 5K with 20 Gb uplinks to the 6500. Now almost 20 servers are connected to this switch, but none of them are going beyond 1.5 Gb/s.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you.Hi,
Connecting 5ks to 6500 should not cause high CPU. Usually, when 6500s are configured in VSS mode, the CPU runs higher. Also if you are running a modular code, the CPU usually runs higher. Note that most newer IOS verions are not modular more .
Also, have a look at this doc for tips on troubleshooting high CPU.

I know this question has been asked a lot, but I haven't really been able to find a definitive guide.
We are running SharePoint 2013 March CU on a Windows 2012 box (24 GB RAM). We have a web application that "randomly" causes our CPU usage on the server to spike at 99%. Unfortunately, it doesn't correct itself until we recycle the application pool
in question. What's interesting is that end users don't really notice a performance hit. However, if we want to do things in Central Administration it creates havoc on the rest of our web applications on the box ultimately causing everything to time
out.
I've narrowed the issue down to a particular application pool. Per Microsoft's best practice, this application pool only has one web application associated with it. I am trying to figure out the root cause of the issue and was wondering if I could get some
suggestions or guidance on what I can do from here. I have Process Monitor installed on the server and can trace the PID, however, I am having a hard time figuring out how to narrow down the results.
We do have a custom farm solution that I believe to be the issue, however, I have no way of definitively saying that this is the issue.
There are some other PowerShell scripts that are not disposing of objects properly and I have contacted each script owner to modify their scripts to correct that issue. With that said, I ran each script individually and they didn't cause the CPU to spike
(even when they didn't dispose of the objects properly).
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.is it single server farm or whats the role of the server in farm?
also things to check / monitor if this start during the Search Crawl or Profile Snyc or Web Analytics.
easy way( not easy) is use the DebugDiag tool to investigate which stuff cause the issue.
How to use the Debug Diagnostics Tool to troubleshoot high CPU usage by a process in IIS
also check this post will guide you for trouble shooting the issue:

We have a two server farm. Application/Web Front End and a Database server.
Crawls don't seem to be an issue. I've preformed crawls with little to no impact on CPU usage.
I will attempt the DebugDiag tool and let you know my results. -
High load and high CPU caused by perl process
Using: Oracle 10.2.0.1.0
OS: Red Hat ES 4
Since this morning I have high load on one of my prod database server, this server has 3 databases of similar size.
High load is caused by perl process, one process has been running for over 75 min’s. process info

Any idea why this is running and cuasing this issue now (for last 8 months, I had not simlar perl issue), can I stop it without kill –9, maybe with emctl stop dbconsole.
Thanks in advance for any help.Hi Lee,
You say this is a core router, but as people use this terms to mean different things, are there any directly connected hosts? If there are one thing to check for is hosts sending multicast traffic with TTL=1. If you run the command show ip traffic | in bad hop and look at the rate the "bad hop count" is increasing. If I had a £ for every time I've seen that problem.... I couldn't retire just yet, but at least I could go buy myself a beer or two.
If you're seeing the hop count increasing at a rapid rate there are a couple of options:
Take a read of Troubleshooting high CPU on a 6500 with sup720 starting from the section Tools used to determine the source of the traffic and identify the hosts sending multicast with TTL=1.
If the Catalyst 6500 use PFC 3B add the command mls rate-limit all ttl-failure 100 10 to drop the multicast traffic in hardware.
The first option will take you longer, but at least you identify the cause and can advise the application owner why they should change their applications behaviour.

High CPU Usage by System.exe (20-60%) only when system is idle
When I leave my computer idle (for 60 seconds or longer usually) the System.exe process begins consuming all of the CPU resources. I ran xperf but am having trouble finding the root cause of this CPU spike. This problem is only present since installing Windows

High CPU caused by Multicast on 6500
Hello - could anyone please assist?
I'm see constant(often daily) alerts that indicate high CPU on one of our Cisco Cat 6500 core switches.
The PIDs refered to are:
276 - IP Input
560 - PIM Process
Combined, these 2 processes take the CPU over 85%, most often hitting 99%.
The core switch is also the Rendevous Point for the LAN.
Many thanks

High CPU utilization in cisco 6509E
I am facing a issue with CISCO 6509E switch with high CPU utilization. it reaches to 65%-70% which usually reaches 20 to 30%.
Hi
Your High CPU is due to interrupts, see 65% alone due to interrupts out of 89%.
Also, see last 72 hours CPU history, CPU always between 50-70%.
