Troubleshooting Network settings-network keeps returning to public

I recently asked for help setting up my new router when there is no internet modem (see Setting up Router E1200 on a computer that does not have an internet modem)
  The Router  is set up in bridge mode with an IP address of 192.168.0.2 for the network.  I have ICU enabled with my Vista desktop computer as the host.  The internet is working fine now on all 3 computers (two Vistamachines and an XP) but every time I start the host computer, it changes the network back to public making it difficult to share files (at least between the two Vista machines). Periodically, while the Dell is running it also starts showing a white screen (with a background roaring noise) and changes the network back to public. Are there any simple changes I can make in the config to enable the host computer to stay on private or is this something I just have to live with?

I would suggest you to try upgrading the Router’s firmware. Here is the link for upgrading the firmware of the Router: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=a68b3a0c05f441f290600a2054f81e29_4272.xml&pid=80&r... . After upgrading the Router’s firmware, reset the Router. Steps to reset the router:
 Push the reset button on Router for 30 seconds, turn off the Router wait for 30 seconds and then power it on. Power light should blink when you perform the reset process.
Power cycle it and re-configure the router from scratch. Then check the connectivity status.
Unfortunately, those instructions have nothing to do with the problem in this thread and won't help.

    What does it mean when I click on my wifi name and it show I'm on my wifi, but the network keeps thinking and the ipad says, Safari cannot open this page because it is not connected to the internet. ?

    When you click on the WiFi network name, have you also provided the password for accessing the network?  You should get a dialogue box asking you for the security information the first time you connect.
    If you are not able to connect, you might want to go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings.
    Then go back to Settings > WiFi and select your network name again and make sure the security information is now entered correctly.
    If you still cannot connect, power down the router, wait a few minutes, power up the router, with the iPad powered down the whole time, and after the router has had several minutes to stabilize power up the iPad.  See if it now connects correctly.

  • Problem with adapter network category reverting to public after change to private

    I noticed that after setting up HyperV Server 2012 R2, that after applying needed firewall rules to allow remote management, that these were added into the "Public" profile. So, I disabled them and enabled for Private and proceeded to change the
    NIC which is internal to the LAN to Private as well.
    All was good; however, after several hours... the network category reverted to Public on that NIC, which of course will not allow any remote management.
    The firewall rules for remote management are only enabled for "Private".
    I used: Set-NetConnectionProfile -InterfaceIndex # -NetworkCategory Private
    Which works; however, what is causing it to revert to public after a given amount of time...

    no domain for this HyperV Server 2012 R2, it's workgroup.
    The management NIC is set for static IP.  At first I did not apply a gateway nor dns settings for it and NLA automatically gave it the Public profile.  After setting to Private via powershell, any reboot or after several hours, it would
    revert.
    So, I set a gateway and dns to a VM that is running on that server which runs those services for other subnets.  I am guessing that after a reboot, NLA discovery is not respecting the static properties and changing the profile to public.  Perhaps
    due to the VM is still spinning up?
    I cannot find a way to get NLA to respect the static properties "and" profile for itself.

    It is true, the iPhone uses MMS to send group messages.

  • Deleted emails keep returning

    Why do deleted emails keep returning on my mac? I use Mavericks OS.

    Gmail makes it difficult to permanently erase messages.
    Go to Gmail's web interface. Delete them there. Search in All Mail, select them, delete them, empty Gmail's Trash. Do this recursively until you can no longer find them anywhere.
    After this it will take your iMac's Mail some time to sync with Gmail.
    Then, examine your Gmail account settings in Mail. Verify that you have instructed Gmail to eventually delete messages.
    Example:

  • The yellow light keeps returning

    My airport express keeps getting a yellow light. When I got to the utility it tells me to update the firmware. I do so and the light goes green for a while but it keeps returning to yellow and telling me to update the firmware.
    What can I do to ensure the firmware update takes so I don't have to keep doing it over and over again?

    Welcome to the discussions!
    Make a note of the configuration settings on your AirPort Express so you can use them again if you wish.
    Perform a "factory default reset" on the AirPort Express to return it to the original new out of box settings and then update and reconfigure the device.
    The easiest way to return the Express to default settings is as follows:
    Pull the Express from power
    Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in as you plug the Express back in to power
    Release the reset button after approximately 10 seconds
    Method 2 is as follows:
    Open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup
    Locate the Base Station menu at the top of the screen (next to the Apple icon)
    Click "Restore Default Settings"

  • I'm going to be using a borrowed computer, so don't want to make permanent changes to that FF. Is there a way to sync the FF settings and keep them on a thumb drive for temporary use?

    Is there a way to sync the FF settings and keep them on a thumb drive for temporary use? I know you can try to copy the "default" folder in .mozilla, but that usually ends up a mess. The home computer runs on Linux, don't know what the borrowed one will be.

    There's Portable Firefox for Windows - http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable - and another for Macs - http://www.freesmug.org/portableapps/firefox/ - not for Linux, AFAIK.
    Firefox Sync works thru a server, either Mozilla's sync server or a local sync server the user has running on their own LAN. There's no way to sync the data to a thumb drive unless it has a version of Firefox on that thumb drive.
    You didn't mention which "settings" are involved, but you can export your Firefox bookmarks in HTML format to a thumb drive, and view that bookmarks.html file on any web browser on just about any operating system.
    Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks ''(or Organize Bookmarks for 3.6 and earlier versions)''-> Import & Backup - Export HTML...
    For your other personal data in Firefox, there is no real solution outside of using Firefox.

    I recently just bought a Toshiba 3TB External Hard Drive.  I am trying to partition it on my macbook, but it keeps returning and error message.  The only thing I have changed is renamed easy drive.

    Your problem is not Boot Camp, in fact, is your optical drive. Win XP requires indeed sp2, but also the internal drive, does not work from external optical drive.
    For other possible tricks, please use the appropriate Boot Camp forum, not here. Mac OS X may be installed from both external and internal optical drive and/or internal/external partition of a disk, any disk. Windows is not so generous.

  • How to modify regional settings and keep Acrobat 9.4.1 working?

    When I modify the regional settings on my W7 PC (i.e. switching the decimal symbol and digit grouping symbol from dot to comma and vice-versa), I cannot print to Adobe PDF Printer nor can I convert Office documents to PDF files anymore. It seem like the joboptions files were getting corrupted (I can see read errors).
    Can anyone advise on how to modify the regional settings and keep Acrobat 9.4.1 Pro working properly? Do I have to adopt the joboptions files (and if yes, how?)?
    Thank you for your advice!

    The defaults for three are blank entries. That is there are no defaults, The only way to get those back to being blank would be to delete your preferences file ( Home->Library->Preferences->com.apple.Aperture,plist ) and possibly the files in *Home->Library->Program Support->Aperture* (but I don't think you would need to do these, not sure.)
    However before you do this you should know there is no drawback to having these entries filled in. Aperture would only attempt to use them if you actually selected them while using Aperture. It won't be looking for them on startup. And if the programs pointed to by these entries no longer exist on your system Aperture won't even fill in the names in the menu items where these are pointed to ( *Photos->Edit with* for example)

  • BufferedReader.ready() keeps returning false using JSSE 1.0.2/jdk 1.2.2

    I'm running into difficulties reading a response data stream from a server via HTTPS. The SSL sets up fine (I can see both the client side and server side certificate chains, and the two sides can handshake and agree on a cipher (SSL_RSA_WITH_RC4_128_SHA in this case)). I get no errors getting the output or input streams from the socket, and the GET request seems to work (no errors reported by the PrintWriter), but in.ready() returns false, and the while loop exits immediately. But I know there is data available (I can paste the printed url into Netscape and get data back). Since this should not be all that complex once the SSL session is established, I'm probably missing something silly, Can someone tell me what it is please?
    Thanks
    Doug
    // code excerpt

    } catch(Exception e) {
    System.out.println("Error getting input and output streams from socket ");
    System.out.println(e.getMessage());
    e.printStackTrace();
    throw(e);
    try{   // time to submit the request and get the data
    // build the URL to get

    System.out.println("Sending request for URL" );
    System.out.println(path);
    out.println("GET " + path );
    out.println();
    out.flush();
    * Make sure there were no errors
    if (out.checkError()){
    System.out.println("Error sending request to server");
    throw(new IOException("Error sending request to server")
    try{
         in = new BufferedReader(
              new InputStreamReader(
              socket.getInputStream() ));
    } catch(Exception e) {
    System.out.println("Error getting input stream from socket ");
    System.out.println(e.getMessage());
    e.printStackTrace();
    //System.exit(3);
    throw(e);
    if (!in.ready()) {   //  in.ready() keeps returning false
    System.out.println("Error - socket input stream not ready for reading");
    while ((inputLine = in.readLine()) != null) {
    // loop over and process lines if it was ever not null
    }

    Never mind.
    The problem seems to be related to the development/debugging enviroment (Oracle JDeveloper 3.2.3), When I run things outside of that eviroment using the "plain" runtime, it works as expected (back to System.out.println() for debugging). That said, I usually find it to be a nice development/debugging enviroment for Java.
