Troubleshooting Publishing To A Private Server

Anyone can help me, please do! I need to publish to my own private server, but keep getting the message:"http://[email protected]/calendar.html/Event%20Calendar.ics is not a valid location for this request". My base URL is www.catfishpoetry.com.

Well, I emailed the .Mac tech support, and here's what I got:
=====================
Dear Phil,
Thank you for contacting Apple.
The .Mac Support Team answers questions about the .Mac collection of software and services.
We appreciate your question and understand that you are having difficulty with Mac OS X and iCal. As this is related to Mac OS X, not to the .Mac Suite of Services, we recommend that you review in-depth support and usage information available at the iCal Support website <http://www.apple.com/support/ical/> .
For assistance with Apple products other than .Mac, please see the AppleCare Support website:
<http://www.apple.com/support/>
For help with products or services not provided by Apple, please refer to the product vendor or manufacturer.
Sincerely
Karim
.Mac Support Team
=====================
In the amount of time it took for them to send this non-answer to me, they could have forwarded it to what ever iCal experts they have.
Anyway, I replied and told them that this has to be their area, since the problem only arises after syncing with .Mac- iCal by itself works just fine.
We'll see where that gets me...

  • Publish ical on private server

Not so long ago I had my ical calendar published on my own http server. Times went by and after numerous OSX and ical updates I find that I can't publish my calendar on private server. I understand that this is because of my server does not have webdav installed.
So, my question is: is there a workaround to publish my calendar on private server that does not have webdav installed? I don't want to use google or any other web hosting calendars for a privacy sake.

I need the same information!!! PLEASE someone help us!

  • Can not publish cal to private server

I'm trying to publish a calendar to a private server. I've double checked all of the info, the url, the server is wedDAV enabled (so they say). I use Earthlink as my web hosting isp. Is there anyone out there that has done this successfully? The error message that I get is... "it is not a valid location for this request"
    Help.

    So they say? Hmm…
Here are some outdated but still applicable instructions to do so under Mac OS X here:
    http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/network/2000/11/10/osxwebdav/osxwebdav.html
You might use these instructions simply for background on the technology, or as a checklist to setting up your own server.
Your digitally challenged friends with PCs can publish calendars to the same server if they use either Mozilla Sunbird, or the Calendar component available with Firefox. More information about both is available here:
    http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/sunbird.html
That original link explained how to set up a WebDAV server on an OS X box. If you want your ISP to provide those services, you'll have to contact them to arrange it. If you're attempting to configure these services on a server provided by Earthlink, you'll have to have them help you. Typically, an 'outsider' cannot configure such services unless a predetermined set of procedures to do so are in place, and you have been given the required access.

  • Cannot publish to a private server

I am testing this out. I am using Dreamweaver MX and iCal 06. How do I publish a calendar so that it is viewable on my website through a web page? I can publish an .ics file, but it doesn't seem to know what that is or how to display it. I need help on this. Thanks

    Thanks Bill,
I have been using WebDav for so long to view my iCals remotely that I can't figure out what your problem could be. It has always worked so well for me, and I use phpiCalendar to view them remotely.
My set up until yesterday was syncing my Palm to the office mac, publishing them to the WebDav server, as well as publishing my wife's iCals to the server, for a total of 4, all easily viewable from the net.
Lately I hve been looking into alternatives to that and at the risk of hijacking your topic, I have discovered another solution that provides a huge benifit to us.
As of today I can view AND edit any of the 4 iCals from either of our machines, AND keep them in sync WITH edit capabilities, as well as sync to my Palm Treo, and also publish to the web server as I did before for view only or subscrtiption, although the publish route seems pretty redundant now as I have all the cals on my palm from both machines and I have a live editable calendar on all 3 of my macs (the remote portable included) of all 4 cals!. I also sync to the cals remotely (across the internet) on my Palm.
If you want to know more about this set up, I would be glad to expand on it. It seems to finally answer all my syncing, editing multiple cals on multiple machines, needs.
    Hope this helps,
    Jamy

  • Publishing Presentation to Private Server (Adobe Presenter 9)

I cannot get my entire presentation to show publish to my work's FTP server.  The presentation will work perfectly when I publish locally on my computer, but once I move the folder to the FTP, the video will not appear.  The audio and everything else seems to work fine.
Is there something I am missing when I copy the folders?
I haven't been able to find much info on this subject in general, as it seems I must be the only one not using Adobe Connect Server.
    Any guidance is appreciated.

    Hi
Please try different browser and confirm the issue.
Can you share the sample file with us ?
Please create a package file and mailto: [email protected]
also, Please share a content link where you have uploaded the content on the server if it is accessible from the public network.
I will try to resolve your issue at the earliest.

  • Publishing on private server causes lags

After I upgraded to Lion, iCal started to "freeze" every now and then. For instance, when entering a new entry, iCal suddenly stops being responsive to key entries, and after a while picks up and shows all I have typed previously. I did a clean install and didn't solve the problem.
The problem appears to be the fact that I have a few calendars published on a "private server" (as opposed to MobileMe), namely icalx. I tried to remove them and re-insert them but no luck. After tinkering for a while and reading other threads, it appears that the "freezing" behavior occurs only when the option "Publish changes automatically" is checked. In this case, it's as if iCal starts updating the remote version while I'm still typing. In any case, I observed that while updating any calendar the entire iCal freezes.
Is anyone experiencing a similar behavior? Any ideas?

To publish calendars without .Mac, you'll need to configure a WebDAV server. You can follow these somewhat outdated—but still applicable—instructions to do so under Mac OS X here:
    http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/network/2000/11/10/osxwebdav/osxwebdav.html
[You could also choose to use a Windows OS box as a WebDAV server, using software which runs on that platform.]
Background information on the mod_dav patch for Apache under Mac OS X is here:

  • Publishing to private server

I am interested in publishing my calender from my imac so that I can view it at work or from my portable ibook. I don't have a .mac account. Are there any private servers that allow people to publish calenders for free?

You could try setting up a private server on your iMac which you can then subscribe to from your workplace or iBook. This is what I have done successfully. A very helpful page has been written by Erik Ray at this URL:
    www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/mac/2002/09/20/ical_webdav.html?page=1
I had to make some changes to the software before compiling. Use an editor and change all references to uuid_t in header and .c files to kuuid_t because uuid_t is differently defined in /usr/include/unistd.h. Then follow all the instructions Erik Ray has given and publish! And then subscribe from another Mac. Works perfectly....(Many thanks to Erik for this page....)

  • No longer seeing Publish to private server after OSX/iCal upgrade

    Hi,
After Upgrading to OSX Lion and updating Ical, I have come across a problem.
Excuse me if I do not get all the options and menu options correct, I'm using a dutch version.
I have been using Ical to publish the calendar of our business to our website for some time now, I publish it to an ftp server where a php script presents the calendar to the visitors. After the upgrade I no longer see the "publish to private server" option under publish. I now only see "share with everyone" and "share with invitees". It has since not been synchronizing. I hope someone knows a solution or can give me directions as to what I'm obviously not seeing.
    Thanks.
    Versions
    iCal : 5.0 (1535)
    OSX: 10.7.1

Calendars listed under your MobileMe login name (which reside on the MobileMe server) cannot be published to a web page. This facility is still available as before for calendars listed under 'On My Mac'.
MobileMe calendars can be shared privately to other MobileMe members (read-only or read-and-write); or publicly (read-only) to anyone with a CalDAV client - this includes iCal and Google Calendar (free subscription required for the latter).
Please see this page for more details:

  • Ical publishes 0KB file to private server

Hello. I am publishing one of my iCal calendars to a private server. It publishes, however there is no information in the file. It is a 0KB file. How can I encourage a successful publication?
    Thanks!

Yes! Gosh it took several wacks, but SCALP is an iCal plugin that fixes the issue. Find the genius's work here http://pygmysoftware.com/software/scalp/

  • ICal 2.0.2 wont publish to Windows 2000 Server

After upgrading to Tiger, I am no longer able to publish an iCal Calendar to a private server which works perfectly on 10.3.X / ical 1.5.5.
I'm running OS X 10.4.2 and iCal 2.0.2. I am trying to publish to a Windows 2000 server running IIS. When I attempt to publish, I see the dialog box which says, "Publishing <Calendar Name>"... The progress bar gets about 75% across and holds for a while. Finally, I get an error dialog which says, "Publish failed for calendar <calendar name>. -- Request to <hostname> failed after trying for 30 seconds."
Now, I KNOW the permissions are set correctly on the server for two reasons. 1.) I can get it to work from 10.3.9 with no problem at all. And 2.) Under Tiger, if I try to publish this calendar, and there's already a .ics file on the server with the same name, iCal deletes it! It certainly wouldn't be able to delete the file if there were a permissions issue.
So, iCal 2.0.2 does a GREAT job of deleting a calendar on the server, it just won't write a new one. I have even checked the Event viewer on the Windows 2000 server. I'm auditing successes and failures of all events and I see nothing to indicate that it's having a problem.
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.
    -Chris

    I'll reply to myself here...
WebDAV between ical 2.0.2 and Win2000 Server just does not work. This used to be a problem in earlier versions of iCal. That's where "FTP iCal" really came to the rescue.
They finally fixed it, but now it seems to be broken once again.
"FTP iCal" lives once again as "FTP iCal calendars." I guess I'll be using this little gem until Apple fixes iCal AGAIN. Here's the developer's site in case anyone else is interested.

  • Multi-author publishing of subprojects to server

I wanted to write this post to 1) clarify that what we are experiencing is the intended behavior of RoboServer 8 and 2) ask for advice on dealing with the issue in our multi-author environment.
Here's the situation. We have several RoboHelp authors, each of whom is reponsible for maintaining their own specific subprojects. These are rolled up into a master project, which is a specific author's responsibility to publish (I will call this person the Master Project Owner)
Initially, we had the workflow process set up so that the authors would publish their subprojects to the server on Thursdays, and the Master Project Owner would publish the master on Friday. The way this version of the server works, as we understood it initially, is that it knows to take the subproject output and copy it to the correct subfolder under "mergedProjects" on the server. We were thinking, "Great!" RoboServer has gotten smarter. We no longer (as in version 5 and 7), have to map the output to the master project\ssl\webhelp Pro\mergedProjects\<subproject> folder on the server anymore. And in fact, even if we did continue doing this, it wouldn't help matters BECAUSE....
What we painfully figured out through a lot of trial and error, is that actually, when the Master project is published, it takes the output from the local folders on the Master Project Owner's machine and pulls over the subproject files that are there! This means that unless the master project author first generates all of the subprojects himself (he doesn't publish, just generates), then the files that are copied to the server can be (and usually are) out of date. Even if the files previously published have a later date then the ones on the master project owner's local drive, it still copies them and overwrites the later versions! Yikes! Futhermore, publishing the subprojects to the server doesn't make any sence at all. They are just sitting there taking up space. They are not being pulled into the master project, as we thought they would be.
I really, really hope that I am mistaken (though my dozens of tests have supported my conclusion) because this completely removes the ability to work as independant authors and means all the generating and publishing has to be done by one person, or at least on one machine. This is not multi-author support as I see it.
Any other ideas on how we might engineer our process to deal with this?
    -Kristen
P.S. Don't know if it has anything to do with it, but we are still using RoboHelp 7 as the client version and are publishing WebHelp Pro output.

    Hi there
Your situation is puzzling to say the least. On a few different levels.
You say that you are using RoboHelp Server, but go on to describe a typical Merged WebHelp output that would be achieved without having to use RoboHelp Server. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd like more information on why or how you decided on this approach. To my knowledge, you don't need a special folder setup for RoboHelp Server merging. All you do is publish projects to the server and the server sorts and handles this internally.
I'm wondering if your issue would be resolved by simply clearing any Merged TOCs from the Master TOC. I believe the presence of the Merged TOC references is what causes the "Merged Projects" folder to be created. So if you remove the references, that would make the Merged Projects folders disappear. This would then help by not having the older content present and overwriting the existing content.
At this point you are probably wondering how you will see the combined TOC if you remove the Merged references. Again, it is my understanding that the RoboHelp Server handles dynamically creating and presenting that to the user. So after you remove the references and get things all published accordingly, the magick of the RoboHelp Server should handle that aspect.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Can I publish an OS X Server hosted calendar?

Can I publish an OS X Server hosted calendar to the internet for sharing via subscription.
I would like to publish a calendar for subscription to users who are not server users within Open Directory.  Ideally they could subscribe to an .ics file via webdav.  It appears that server based calendars can only be shared with other server users.

There are a couple of things you would need to do.
Open your router to allow calendar traffic in and out of your network (be carefull about opeing any custom ports on a router as it could allow for unotherised attacks). All internal user passwords should then be strong and all traffic should be encrypted.
Have your external server.mydomain.com DNS point to a public ip address. - At your router you can rout it to the server machine (public ip's would be supplied by your ISP). This will allow external calendar subscription traffic know where to get the information from.
For invetation replies to work from outside your network to your internal network you will need to get your ISP to set up reverse pointer for your domain to point to your public ip address. This allows people outside your network to accept or decline your calendar invetation - and allows your calendar server to automatlycally post those replies in the relevent calendar.
I havnt gone into much depth with these steps because personally I have moved to using iCloud.
For all the hassle and potential risks of opening up your network I would alternativly set your users up with a free iCloud account and use the calendar service there. Super easy and it works. It also limits the potential external attacks on your network.

  • Connecting Gamecube to Macbook to access private server

I hope someone out there has managed this and can help.
I am trying to connect my old Gamecube to the internet via my Macbook's wireless connection in order to play Phantasy Star Online (I know, I know, I was just feeling nostalgic).
The game is now being hosted by a private server.
    http://www.schtserv.com/connect-psogc.php
They have included directions on how to connect to a pc laptop with aid of a DRDNS a program that basically directs the gamecube to the new server. The program is not mac compatible.
    Here are the directions: http://schtserv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=42
I have connected my gamecube to mac via ethernet cable. I tried manually configuring the network settings in the gamecube so that it connects to my mac. I was successful that far. What I cannot seem to do is get my mac to route it to the right server. I tried inputting the dns server manually and that did not work. From what I have read the gamecube needs to be tricked into thinking it has reached the old sega server. How can I accomplish this?
    My Mac:
    Model Name: MacBook
    Model Identifier: MacBook5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz

i can't see the pg from where i'm at now but it looks like they are making changes to some dns settings. think you might be able to make changes to the hosts file, but not sure.
JUST FYI for now: http://decoding.wordpress.com/2009/04/06/how-to-edit-the-hosts-file-in-mac-os-x- leopard/
