Troubleshooting Surround Mixer and Speaker Settin

Hello,
First, I am using a clean install of Windows XP (no service pack 2).
A year ago I bought an Alienware computer with a vanilla Sound Blaster Audigy 2. Yesterday, I reformatted and reinstalled the drivers and software (Surround Mixer and Speaker Settings only) from the Alienware Master CD. The Creative Surround Mixer and Speaker Settings programs will NOT open. The "Creative Volume Control" icon appears on the system tray. Right-clicking it does nothing. Double-clicking does nothing. Opening the programs from their locations does nothing. I get an hourglass for half a second -- then, nothing.
I updated the Audigy 2 drivers from the Creative website. The programs still would not open. I updated both pieces of software. They still will not open.
At the moment, I have no surround sound -- I'm using 6. Speakers, and the control panel settings allow only 5. and 7.. So I'm in a rather poor position.
I did not have this problem before I reformatted.
Why is this suddenly happening?
I would also like to comment that not including the software bundles with your downloadable drivers is a poor business practice. Every other sound/video card manufacturer includes fully functional driver/application resources on their website. What gives? You're punishing your customers for losing the installation CDs -- and those of us who never had one (Alienware includes everything on a rather sloppy backup CD) are defenseless.

The card is OEM. Alienware offers only the earliest drivers for the card by website (the exact same from the recovery CD) and none of the software found on the CD. My 'hardware analysis' tech support period is expired with Alienware, so they aren't much further help.
When the computer first shipped to me, the Audigy 2 card was installed as "Audigy 2" under control panel, all the software functioned, and updating through www.creative.com worked fine. After the reformat, installing the drivers from the recovery CD (in the Audigy 2 folder) caused the card to be listed simply as an "Audigy" under control panel. None of the software worked. Installing the latest drivers from www.creative.com caused the card to be properly listed as "Audigy 2", but of course, the software still does not work. Surround sound is working, I just have no way to manipulate *any* of its settings.
Does this mean I need to purchase an entirely new retail card in order to use surround sound again properly...

  • Surround /mixing and monitoring audio interface

    Dear forum,
I am searching for an audio interface to use with MBP or G5 for mixing and monitoring of four to 6 outputs channels into PMC active speakers. I am using a Lavry DA 11 DAC for stereo monitoring. I do not require an interface with inputs for recording music as all my recording is done away from my macs, it just the outputs i need to monitor audio I have loaded to computer via CF card. All the interfaces I see have loads of inputs I don't require. Is there an interface available without inputs?
Or I am looking at the wrong sort of device?
    regards

You need an interface that has 8 outputs. Most of these include 8 or more inputs as well. The inputs will not be a problem when mixing, you can ignore them.
I have yet to see an interface that is only outputs.

  • What happened to the Audigy 4 software?!!?!?! (Surround Mix

Ok I just bought a 2nd Audigy 4 SE soundcard and I after installing the software I go to the Surround Mixer and treble/bass is greyed out. Speaker Calibration is missing... And everything looks like its been stripped!!! Where did all of this go? I'm so confused...
BTW I'm running Windows XP. A few months ago I had all these features and now they are gone wtf...

Try download them MANUALLY. They're 5.2..6-2.08.00.000.

  • Install Surround Mixer separat

so I just downloaded and installed the latesat drivers for my Audigy 4 (SBAX_WBUP2_LB_2_09_006.exe), and I found that the tray icon (with the Speaker Settings, EAX Console, Surround Mixer and stuff) was missing. Apparently it's not bundled in the downloadable drivers
how can I get these back? I tried popping in the Driver/Apps disc and install every app separately, but it only gives me an error message (error -6003). If I choose "Install Audigy 4" from the Autoplay I guess it will also install the older drivers, and override the new ones?
The only thing I have now is the AudioConsole, which lacks some of the features I want (such as Bass Redirection)

    Cirap,
No Custom tab? What did you see there? Did you at least see a Modify or Add tab? If you can see those, you can use that.

  • Surround Mixer - Advanced EQ Activated = No Soun

    Hi,
i fixed my previous trouble with only left and right front working.
The Mixer Test Tool now works successfully for each of my 5. boxes.
However, when i want to activate some EQ like "Heavy Metal" or "Rock" it just goes silent - i cant hear anything anymore - i have to chose "No Effect" to get it working again. The other options like Surround -> Church or Bathroom or whatever however work fine.
What could the problem be ?
I have a Audigy Player, DTT3500 - Digital DIN and 5. + digital out only in Surround Mixer and Windows Settings
    thanks

thanks, i fixed the issue with reinstalling the drivers again - then it worked...
No, however - the center speaker does not work for mp3 sound anymore (the mixer test works)

  • Live!Surround speaker setting not showing in surround mixer for SB Live Platinum

the Li've!Surround option for speaker settings in not showing in my Surround Mixer
    i have:
    Windows 2000 sp4
    SB Li've! Platinum 5.
    ASUS CUSL2
    Sound Blaster Li've! - Li'veDrvUni-Pack (English) SBLW-XPWEB-W4-US 28-Feb-03
Installed the speaker preset for li've!surround but the only headphone, 2 speaker, 4 speaker, and 5. speaker shows up on speaker configuration of the Surround Mixer
i've played the AC3 files on the cdrom and Dolby pro logic surround, I get sound from all fi've speakers on my Denon D-850 w/ Dolby surround pro-logic
I can't use the surround mixer to test all the speakers, only front left and right speakers work on the test, i have to open to wav files directly to test the center speaker, the rear speaker test doesn't work from the wav file
My Denon system only has analog stereo inputs, so this is my only option for letting Sound Blaster know I have 5 speakers.
I've uninstalled all SB Li've software and drivers from the unipack, and reinstalled the orignal drivers and apps from the CD-ROM SBP5-CDSD-W-US MID : 32680 5-Sep-2000 and the Li've!Surround speaker setting reappears in the Surround Mixer.
Is the Li've!Surround setting no longer available in the new Surround Mixer in Li'veDrvUni-Pack (English) SBLW-XPWEB-W4-US 28-Feb-03 ?

    so I found this post...
    http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...7?dmode=source
it seems Li've Surround is no longer supported in the new drivers
....so what would be the best setting to play ac3 files or DVD's through my receiver with only 2 analog inputs (left and right) available w/ Dolby surround prologic. Should I set it to 2 speaker or 4 speaker setting in the Surround Mixer in order to send the best signal to the prologic decoder on my receiver with 5 speakers (2 front, center, 2 rear)

  • No longer able to select speaker type in Surround Mixer (Audigy Platinum Win XP P

Hi, all. I have an Audigy Platinum. Normally I have no issues using my 5. speakers with this card; however, today I noticed my sound was "tinny" and the reason is that the surround mixer is locked on Headphones. I cannot click the arrow to change it to 5. surround or anything else for that matter. I've gone into Control Panel and unchecked the mute other speakers when headphones are plugged in option, but that hasn't seemed to help. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. That did the trick.

  • Surround Mixer for Audigy and Windows 7?

    Hello,
I've just installed Windows 7 and I see that the old XP Surround Mixer is no longer working.
    I know that?Windows has a sound?mixer, but it is?really annoying and incomplete.
Is there a functional Creative Surround Mixer that I can use with Windows 7?

I would like answers to your question also. Since re-installing, & losing surround mixer, I have sacrificed?most functions with regards to 5./7. sound. As you say, Window's own software is sub-standard when using the card. I love the Audigy2 ZS Platinum and want to get it up and running to its full glorious potential.
?PLEASE PLEASE CREATIVE?PROVIDE US WINDOWS 7 USERS WITH A NEW UPDATED?VERSION OR A VIABLE ALTERNATIVE.
    Yours in anticipation
    Dave

  • Audigy 2 ZS and Surround Mixer in Windows 7

    +?
Ok, I just installed Windows 7 Enterprise on a new HP XW 4600 workstation (NL, Dutch). This is a clean install. I have a Audigy 2 ZS (SB0350) and I dont have the surround mixer. Here is what I did:
?Install Windows 7 Enterprise and take all the pathes from Microsoft.
    2.
?Intall the Audigy 2 ZS soundblaster? card in the computer
    3.
?After the boot up I ingnore the message ?found new hardware?
    4.
?I go to the Creative website and download the following programs
SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_8_00 and WAVESTD_PCAPP_LB_7_2_00? which are recommended for my sound card.
    5.
?I cant find the surround mixer, it is even not installed
    6.
?I try the ?webupdate? there are some updates and I install them all
    7.
    ?Again no Surround Mixer.
Can someone explain what I do or did wrong ?
I realy need the Surround Mixer !!

/Re: Audigy 2 ZS and Surround Mixer in Windows 7? i got problem with recording any sound. Recorded sounds are terrible. Sometimes playing sounds are terrible too. i should restart pc for fix playing terrible sound.
    i found 2 third-party driver but i didnt tried. Because of decription of 3rd-party driver ;
There is no DirectSound hardware acceleration on Windows XP 64-bit (x64)
The Audigy driver does not support 64-bit addressing, disabling the DirectSound hardware acceleration and causing multichannel sound to be played only in the stereo channels (front left/right).
    Workarounds:
    - install the 32-bit (x86) version of Windows XP.
    - limit to less than 4GB the amount of RAM available to Windows.
    - enable the ?Memory Hole? setting in the BIOS Setup, if your motherboard supports it.
Microphone issues on Windows 7/Vista 64-bit (x64) with 4GB?of RAM or more
Audigy driver does not support 64-bit addressing, resulting in random issues with the Microphone (static, robotic or distorted voice, white noise).
    Workarounds:
    - install the 32-bit (x86) version of Windows
    - limit the RAM available to Windows to less than 4GB
    - enable Memore Hole in BIOS Setup, if?your motherboard supports the setting

  • Audigy 2 ZS No mic or line-in in both Windows and with Creative Surround Mix

    Happy New Year to all.
I have installed 2 ZS card. Output works well. I want to record a couple of old vinyl albums. I cant either through Creative Surround mixer or through windows get either a Line-in or microphone input to select from. I have tried everything but this forum. If anybody has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Eric

In the Creative Mixer on the right hand side you should see a separate column with a "Rec" heading. There should be a small upside-down triangle. Click on that and you should get a list. Choose "Analog Mix" which includes Microphone, Line-In, etc. Then to the left, un-mute the source you want.

  • Bass and treble control at surround mixer is disabled!!! plz h

i install my sound card and its sounds properly.but bass and treble control at surround mixer is disable.my card is sound blaster audigy value.whats the problem? is there hardware problem in my card? plz help

    cold_terminator,
IIRC, that's normal for the Audigy Value. You should have the Creative Equalizer application. That takes the place of the treble and bass controls. It's more complex of course.

  • No surround mixer support for Audigy 4

I have spent about 3 hours trying to find ways to get surrond mixer to work, and i dont have the cd. It looks like creative didnt even put any support on their downloads for managing speaker channels. Which makes the card useless for people who want SURROUND SOUND! Am I the only person have problems, i check all the downloads and there is no surround mixer to my knowledge, why is this so?

    get the cd from

  • 5.1 surround snd and FCP

im putting together a FCP video presentation where i will need surround sound atleast 5.1. im working on FCP 4.5, which i believe is not capable of 5.1. therefore, does anyone have suggestions to achieve? is it possible to mix audio in Pro Tools and send back to FCP 4.5 for the surround audio? or what happens if i patch the finished non-5.1 DVD into a surround speaker system? will it just play through two stereo speakers and neglect the others?
thank you for any assistance you can provide.

< Most new surrounds sound receivers have an all channel stereo option >
But don't use this kind of rig for actual surround mixing. Only for reviewing mixes.
Certain kinds of artifacts, phase problems, and level issues in a surround mix only reveal themselves when monitored on a real multi-speaker surround system.
