Troubleshooting wireless point to point

We have a wireless point to point link using two 1310 bridges between our campus and a remote building about 5 blocks away. Recently the link has started to go down often during the day. The following is what I am seeing in the logs:

From some of the research I have done this is could be due to excessive noise.
Here are some of the stats from the root bridge.

Is there anything I can tweak on the bridges to stabilize the connection? Also, could someone explain what are good and what are bad readings for both signal strength and signal to noise?

Wireless Point at Work

I am trying to use an old bt home hub 2 I have at work as a wireless point. We use a specific set of IP addressess at work to get an internet connection. 192.168.8.1(50-990
How do I configure the home hub 2 to use one of these IP's so we can get internet wirelessly?
I currently have a LAN cable from one of my offices to the maintenance cabin connected to a switch so we can use 2+ laptops at the same time. The IP address on my laptop is 192.168.8.179. My colleagues is 192.168.8.177.
I have taken an old home hub 2 from home to work and I am trying to set it up as a wireless point so I can use my mobile and get on the internet. How do I go about setting up the HH2 as a wireless point using one of the IP's?

Be aware, by adding a wireless access point you could be breaking your company IT security policy, and could be dismissed.
Most companies prohibit the connection of unauthorised access points, for security reasons. These can be detected because of their MAC address.

Autonomous Wireless Point-to-Point bridge

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
I am having difficulty finding documenation on hwo to properly configure Cisco 1552e AP's in Autonomous Mode as Point to Point wireless bridges with just utilizing the wireless link as a backhaul, not client access. We have to go with autonomous because we plan on having Local Mode ap's (CAPWAP) terminated behind the MAP ethernet bridged port. Here is our topology:
Local Network (Controller resides on this network) ---------> L2 Switch ----------> RAP --------> wireless bridge <---------- MAP <----------> L2 Switch ----> Clients\CAPWAP AP's (servicing clients)
We want to pass all the VLANs we will need for both the wired network and CAPWAP network.
Thoughts?

Is there a limit on the number of Bridge-Groups that can be used (essentially number of VLANs)?
Also are you familiar with running Mesh AP's in autonomous mode? Do we lose any features other than management by moving them from CAPWAP to Autonomous?

Have a look at the link provided. There are ways of adding encryption and passwords to your point-to-point bridge. My recommendation is to go this way. It's alot quicker and easier to maintain.

BR1310 Wireless Point-to-Point Bridge

I recently configured two BR1310 Access Point/Bridges into a Root & Non-Root (without clients) configuration to extend a LAN to another building. I configured the units to use LEAP (Root acting as Radius server), authenticating with Network-EAP w/ WPA2, and AES as the encryption cipher. Being that WPA2/LEAP handle the key management, I had a question regarding best practices. I currently have configured a "dot1x timeout reauth-period" of 300 seconds, in addition a broadcast-key change of the same. I have 4 VLANs trunked over this bridge, and since I have no wireless clients associating with these bridges, I'm assuming I do not need the broadcast-key rotation. The idea is that by forcing a dot1x reauth, a new PTK/PMK will be created every 300 seconds. Is that a recommended practice?
Also, being that I have 4 VLANs trunked across these bridges, is there a way to verify (via debug?) that all VLANs traffic is being encrypted by AES? Obviously when I do a "show dot11 assoc all", only my native VLAN (mgmt) shows as AES, no other VLANs.

Hello,
it normal that you only see with "sh dot11 ass .." the native vlan. On this vlan (infratstructure) will be realize the authentication and encryption. That means not,
all other vlan,s are not encrypted !! Of course they are, because the vlan,s will be "transport" sequential in the AES encrypted connection. You can by the way see this with a WLAN-ANALYSOR.
The timeouts (reauth-period) not so low I use 10000 sec. It is not mor secure If you so often reauthenticate the session.
A Cisco staff had by my customer configured 40000 sec. A good choice is once per day.

Outdoor wireless point to point design help

I need to extend a wireless signal from one building, to an elevated metal enclosure approximately 310 feet away across a parking lot. The enclosure has 3 metal sides and a metal roof. The front is almost entirely one big picture window. The building across the parking lot from the enclosure that I need the wireless signal to reach from faces the metal back side of the enclosure.
Currently a yagi antenna is mounted on the building roof and is pointed at the enclosure across the parking lot. The antenna is connected to an old 1231 access point inside the building.
This configuration does not work. The signal reaches weakly to the outside of the enclosure, but disappears entirely once inside the enclosure itself. My guess is that the metal back and sides is blocking the signal from the yagi antenna on the roof across the parking lot. Signals from other access points in the neighborhood can be seen inside the box, and I'm guessing those signals get through because they're in line with the big window in the front of the metal box.
How do I get the wireless signal inside of this metal box? If I install another antenna on the roof of the enclosure that will boost the signal to the outside of the structure, but how do I get the signal inside? Even if I place an access point inside the structure and run a cable to the outside antenna, won't the signal itself still be outside?
How do I get the wireless signal from the building across the parking facing the metal rear of this enclosure to reach inside the enclosure?
For those who are wondering - the elevated metal enclosure sits on top of a row of bleachers and looks out over a sports field. It's used by sportscasters to broadcast sporting events and upload game information to a website. That's why they need wireless inside.

How do I get the wireless signal inside of this metal box?
With difficulty.
You need to poke holes under the metal box (to prevent water from coming up to the AP) and stick the antenna OUTSIDE. The metal will act as a reflector.

Hi i have a site where all users and in one building and other building 2 users are there which is 200 meters . They dont want to run fiber as its very expensive . They are looking for some solution like to keep some wireless device in this buld and the other device in the second buld .And some point to point connection .
in cisco is there a solution like point to point (infrared or somrthink )

Adding another wireless point

Hi. Hopefully this is the right place, please advise a better location if not. I'd like to get some advice on how to best implement a new device.
I use a linksys router wrt54g on cable internet with a hard wired printer and a hard wired xbox360 attached to it in an upstairs loft area. The 2 PC's and a laptop connect wirelessly.
Downstairs on the other side of the house I have a directv dvr that has the capability of downloading content from DTV's new on demand service for which I do not have hooked up. It needs to be hard wired.
Hardwiring through the walls is not an option at this point.
We are moving to DSL. What we would like to do is move the router downstairs to the tv with the DTV dvr to hard wire in the DVR directly to the router.
Is a reasonably priced product available that I can hard wire the xbox360 and multifunction printer to and it connects to the router wirelessly in the house? I was told to not do the DTV wirelessly. I was also told the printer, a brother multi function 5440 does not like print servers if that matters.

Assuming that the range is not too far for wireless, you could setup your system like this:
modem-WRT54G ))) wireless bridge - Xbox, printer, etc.
                       |       ))) wireless computer(s)
                       |
                DTV dvr
For a wireless bridge, use A) a WET200 (with or without an SD208 switch), or B) a WET54G with an SD208 switch.
A better alternative might be:
modem-WRT54G-PLE200 *** PLE200-switch- Xbox, printer
                      |     ))) wireless computer(s)
                      |
                 DTV dvr
Note that one PLK200 = two PLE200.
This would give you a 100 Mbps powerline connection to your Xbox and printer, which, for some Internet games, would give you much better game play than a wireless connection. Switch= SD208.
A third alternative is this
Leave your current system setup as it. Connect a PLE200 to your WRT54G. Connect another PLE200 to the DTV dvr. This should give you the equivalent of a wired connection between the DTV dvr and your WRT54G.

Troubleshoot Distribution Point Updates Failing

What are the best logs to look at for determining problems with
distribution points? We have 5 DPs. 2 of the DPs are failing to get
distributed content. Both of these systems are remote sites so it could
be due to network latency, but I need some logs to help narrow this
down.
I am watching the distmgr.log. I see the following entry showing its
retrying. The only other red messages are related to a DP that is
currently offline at the moment. Two of my DPs updated successfully.
The other two keep showing as Failed to distribute content.

Troubleshooting Management Point installation on site system

Hello,
I am trying to install MP on site system, where DP and SMP are installed already. But installing of MP fails. In the Event Viewer on site system I see:
component SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER on computer SCCM.contoso.com reported: Site Component Manager failed to reinstall this component on this site system.
I did not find mpsetup.log on site system, where is it stored? where is not such folders \program files\microsoft configuration manager or sms_ccm.

Start by looking in the sitecomp.log file on the Site Server. This should give you information about the MP component installation adn why it failed. Then have a look at the
mpsetup.log which you will find on the server where you added the MP. It will be in the
<Driveletter>:\SMS\Logs folder

Trying to troubleshoot wireless & wired connections

I recently bought a Bluray player that requires an Ethernet connection to get online. I would like to be able to stream movies once in a while. My ISP is Time Warner, whose gateway device is next to the TV, but I would like to switch to AT&T Uverse, which would come into my apartment in the opposite corner of the room via the phone line. I would like to use Airport Extreme for my WiFi network, so I'm going to see if AT&T will provide me w/a wired modem that I can connect to it. I'm trying to figure out if it would then be possible to get some kind of secondary router to put over by the TV that would get the WiFi signal from my Airport and facilitate the Ethernet connection for the Bluray. Is this even possible? Advisable? I know the simplest thing would be to return this player for a WiFi enabled one, but I'm trying to see if I can make it work. Thanks for any advice.

The AirPort Express can be configured to "join a wireless network" and the Ethernet port can be enabled to provide a signal, so it should work to provide an Ethernet connection to the DVD player.
Whether the wireless "hop" will allow enough bandwidth for good video performance is open to question. In that regard, it is going to be one of those "you will not know until you try" type of things. It might be a good idea to have a "Plan B" in case the AirPort Express does not work to your satisfaction.
The better way better way to do this would be to connect an Ethernet cable from the AirPort Extreme directly to the DVD player, as this type of connection provides much higher bandwidth than a wireless connection.
It goes without saying that you always want as much bandwidth as possible if you are planning to stream high definition video material.

TS3048 troubleshoot wireless mouse. It is acting as if a button is being held down - sending multiple signals when one will do.

It does not appear dirty, the battery is fine, the connections are fine but it is haywire to the point of being useless. Any advice?

Hello BDAqua, thanx for the suggestions. Before I saw this reply I tried to first quit the finder and then to relaunch the Finder but that resulted was a blank gray screen.
In the end I ended up having to power down the iMac.
Fortunately the RAID array that was "active" seems to be fine and also has a firewire 800 connection so I can use it_ just not with thunderbolt until this issue is solved.
I'm going to check in the Applications>Utilities>system log to see if any clues are evident_ thank you for the suggestion.
PS: Nothing of note was obvious as a root cause in the Activity Monitor though.
hmmm....I was told that the Helios and seritek card were compatable and that the Helios didn't require any drivers..it will be a drag if there isn't an easy fix for this since this new PCIe card from seritek is the first to offer port multiplier compatibility for eSATA to thunderbolt...since they are both new I'm hoping that an OS upgrade will be the fix (presently7.2)...we shall see.

J6480 troubleshoot wireless connection to Mac OS 10.5.8

I was previously able to wirelessly print from my MacbookPro (10.5.8) to my OfficeJet J6480 over my home wireless network (Netgear router). I unplugged my printer, and when I plugged it back in, try as I may, I haven't been able to restore wireless printing (USB printing works fine).
After trying simple measures, I eventually just uninstalled the HP driver software, restarted my computer, and reinstalled the driver from the website. Printing a Network Configuration Page from my printer shows it is connected to my wireless router with IP address 192.168.1.2. However, when I go to add the printer, it is not detected under HP IP Printers, nor can I see the printer web page when I type http://192.168.1.2 into my web browser.
I can add the Bonjour printer to my printer list, but again when I go to Show Bookmarks > Bonjour and try to see the printer webpage, I get an error (server not responding).
It seems that my laptop is not communicating with my printer. If anyone has advice it would be greatly appreciated!

Ok here is the update, this morning I was able to "reset printing system" and re-add the USB and Bonjour printers. USB works. Bonjour it says "unable to connect to printer". Cannot detect IP printer.
Network configuration page I just printed says connected to wireless network, IP address 192.168.1.2.
I am still unable to open the printer web page by going to show bookmarks > bonjour, or by going to http://192.168.1.2 in my browser window.
It seems my printer is on the network, but for some reason my computer is not communicating with it . . .

Point to point wireless using 1310 and 1231 on each site

I have an implementation right now with wireless point to point bridging connection. I installed a 1310 with 24 dBi external antenna on one site and a 1231 AP/bridge with 24 dBi antenna on the other site. Has anyone of you tried this set-up. I have no problem with the connection and pinging is ok. However when I tested the throughput I only got 2Mbps in which the distance between the two sites is only 2 kms. I am hoping to have a throughput about 20 Mbps and up.

When you configure the AP radio, you must consider the type of clients that are present in the wireless network. If the AP has an 802.11g radio and the WLAN has only 802.11g clients, you can set one or more data rates to Basic and all other data rates to Enabled However, if you have a mixed environment of both 802.11b and 802.11g clients in a WLAN network, you must ensure that only the rates that 802.11b supports are set to Basic (or Require in GUI). If data rates that the 802.11b radio does not support (such as 12 Mbps) are set to Basic on the AP radio, the 802.11b clients are not able to associate to the AP.
Alternatively, you can configure the AP radio to select data rates on the basis of range or throughput. When you configure the AP radio to select data rates for range, the AP sets the lowest data rate to Basic and the other rates to Enabled. In this way, the AP can cover a wider area. However, the data rate comes down as the distance from the AP to the client increases. If you configure the AP radio for throughput, the AP sets all data rates to Basic. This configuration ensures a consistent throughput throughout the coverage area.
