Trouibles booting from net

hi people...
i'm having troubles booting from the net my sparc ultra 1 (openboot 3.0)
i'm using a BOOTP/TFTP server in a windows box...
using the "boot net" is sais "timeout waiting for ARP/RARP packet"... i made it work som time ago using a more extense command, but i cant remeber it and i culdn't find it. it was somthing like this:
ok boot net:bootp:192.168.0.30
sombody know about??
or sombody know where could i find docs.??
Thanks

For the FireWire port, it's not a theory; it will work. However, I do not know of any adapter that will allow a USB 2.0 drive to connect to the FireWire port.
You should buy a good quality external drive enclosure and transplant the drive. You can often find cheap ones by looking on dealmac.com
http://dealmac.com/categories/Computer/Storage/Drive-Enclosures/Fire-Wire-Drive- Enclosures/369.html
However, I prefer better quality enclosures even if they cost a bit more. OWC (www.macsales.com) sells some good enclosures with no drive. I have a Macally aluminum (fanless) case that I got from Amazon; it has been reliable with several different drives inside.

  • T520 dont boot from Samsung 850 EVO

hello,I encountered problem when cloning original HDD to SSD (samsung SSD 850 EVO) on my Lenovo thinkpad T520. First I installed Samsung cloning sw, attached SSD by USB2SATA conventor and then I ran cloning wizard. After cloning operation (with success result) I changed disks and my laptop was unable to boot from SSD drive. It looks exactly like if there is not any OS instaled on it. But if I connect this SSD disk to other computer, it works normally and I can see proper partition structure on it. I thought Samsung sw did incorrect work and I tried to use hardware disk cloning device to copy original disk to SSd once again in raw form. A little longer work, but worth doing in such case. Unfortunately, the result is the same. Laptop refuses to start OS from SSd and is trying to boot from NET instead. After then I tried to clone original disk to spare hybrid SSHD disk and both methods were successful - ie. laptop boots happily from SSHD but it keeps refusing to boot from Samsung SSD 850 EVO. any ideas what to do next? BIOS setting tweak perhaps?thanks in advance

    Hi
JirkaT, did you clone entire (!) drive, not partition-by-partition?
I performed the loning process multiple times w/o issues using free version of Acronis True Image Home application. I hope you'e using the same app from Samsung (it has another name I don't remember).
I installed the new target drive into the external USB-SATA box and used cloning application on the "old" source drive installed.

  • Mac Pro crashes on boot, won't boot from install CD - help!

Hi - I've got a Mac Pro which will only boot in safe mode - it goes to grey screen before login under normal conditions, and has a kernel panic when told to boot from the install DVD. Please help!
For background: I've got a dual-core 2007 Mac Pro and a 2 core 2008 aluminium MacBook, both of which I've been backing up to their own external drives with Time Machine. I've just bought a NetGear ReadyNAS (2TB) to back them both up because I ran out of space on the Mac Pro's two internal 500GB drives - I've put in a new Samsung 1TB drive, which is the only hardware upgrade I've made to either machine. The MacBook backs up fine to the NAS over a wireless network, but the MacPro kept crashing the system while making its first attempts at backing up, both within Time Machine and when just copying the TM backup files across in Finder. It would hang about 10GB into backups of approx 1TB, as here - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1550 - but the NAS formatting works for the MacBook.
On advice from NetGear I put the following command into Terminal:
    sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.delayed_ack=0
Now the Mac Pro won't boot except in safe mode - it won't boot from the install disc, either the 10.4.9 that came with the machine or the 10.6 disc I bought later. if I let the boot run as normal, it locks up on the grey screen (as here - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570). If I boot with the install CD (holding down 'c') I get a kernel panic (as here - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8965.html). If I hold down 'option' I can choose between the HD or the install CD, but each option just takes me to the same places as above. Safe boot works, but that's it.
I've done all the obvious things: I've unplugged all peripherals and network cables. The extended Apple Hardware Test shows no problems. I've repaired disk permissions and done a live verify on the startup drive in Disk Utility. I've reset the PRAM as well, but the behaviour is the same: It doesn't feel like a drive failure as I've managed to back up the startup drive while in safe mode and I don't hear any clicking or worrying drive noises. I don't know how I could wipe the startup drive and reinstall the OS because I can't boot from the install CD - or from a USB drive, as suggested here - http://osxdaily.com/2009/09/02/install-snow-leopard-from-external-firewire-or-us b-hard-drive-or-how-to-upgrade-to-106-without-a-dvd-drive/
Thanks for any help anyone can offer!

  • IMac 24" Aluminium - No way to boot from DVD

    Dear all:
Thank you for having this forum fully working.
My iMac 24" Aluminium (november 2008) can't boot, completely frozen, although all HW are perfectly working.
I'll try to explain the issue best I can.
    SYMPTOMS
    - Grey screen of death without Apple's logo.
    - No bootable devices detected (either HDD or DVD) by EFI, when you hold ALT (Option) while booting.
    - No way to force boot from DVD.
    CAUSE OF PROBLEMS
    a) HDD has 3 partitions created by DiskUtils:
    /dev/disk0s2= Mac OS(HFS+)
    /dev/disk0s3= Linux DVD Installer (FAT32)
    /dev/disk0s4= User Data(HFS+).
    b) rEFIt installed and fully working on the system ( http://refit.sourceforge.net/ )
    c) Linux DVD installer partition was filled this way:
    dd if=/path/to/linux.iso of=/dev/disk0s3
As you can see, there are no HW errors at all, everything was perfectly working before dumping the Linux iso into FAT partition.
TRIALS FOLLOWED (and all its combinations).
TRIAL 1 - Erasing EFI values on memory.
Leave the iMac disconnected from power cord a whole night for memories to loose their values.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JId524890zc.
TRIAL 2 - Force empty memories during boot.
    CMD+ALT+P+R -> Result OK (reboot)
    CMD+ALT+N+V -> No effect
    CMD+ALT+O+F -> No effect
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1533
TRIAL 3 - Force boot from DVD.
C while boot -> Read DVD first, but can't boot.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1533
TRIAL 4 - From Startup Manager, try to boot from DVD.
ALT (Option) while boot -> See cursor arrow on screen, can't see DVD as boot option.
    a) Try with DVD already inside the unit.
    b) Try to insert DVD once I see the cursor arrow on screen.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1383424?start=0&tstart=0
TRIAL 5 - Remove RAM memories to reset EFI to factory defaults.
    - Remove all RAM from unit.
    - Boot from DVD (C key hold) -> Unit beeps.
    - Shutdown and fill one bank with memory.
    - Wait 15 minutes for EFI memories values to be deleted.
    - Boot from DVD (C key hold) -> Access DVD first, but no boot.
TRIAL 6 - Boot from external Mac (Firewire + PC fully working).
This is the only trial missing before replacing the HDD of the unit... finger crossed.
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=271975
    IDEAS AND CONCLUSIONS
    - Any more ideas?
    - How is it possible that a SW problem affects the HW in a way that can't be booted from DVD? Somethings is terribly wrong on iMac EFI design... terribly poor stability.

  • Equium A100 - Unable to boot from bootable disc

    Equium A100-549
My partners son has a 2 year old Toshiba laptop that has become slow over time. I had made a backup of the system with office etc installed using Acronis. Anyway, decided to clear it off by running Acronis and the image saved. The program runs as normal and it drops down to a dos like screen ready to restore. It then sits there with the curser flashing as normal and then it locks up, and doesnt allow you to browse to the image.
I though that this may be corrupted, so reinstalled Acronis. Made an Acronis boot disk to run the image and it ignores the disk and boots straight to the normal hard disk (IDE 0) Still no joy. Then tried the laptops restore disk. In the BIOS I specified CD device as first, and also the restore disk says place in drive and turn off.
Then as it boots hit F12 which brings up a menu allowing you to boot from CD drive. I have done this, but it doesnt appear to look at the CD and just loads windows from the HDD. I removed the CD from system devices and rebooted. It found it and added the new device to itself and requested a reboot. Still no joy!
Scanned with Norton but still no good. Removed Norton. The result is the same. Able to read from the CD and also write to it as well. Ran Toshibas diagnostics on the device and all appears ok with it.
Tried to make a boot disk on flash stick, but this is ignored also, even though specified boot using other devices.
Basically it looks like I cant get it to look at the CD before loading off the HDD.
Would flashing the BIOS cure it? - Registry error causes this?
Is there anywhere that I can speak to someone from Toshiba about this?
Any info / help much appreciated

Worked first time. I was in the middle of running a downloded version of system mechanic to see if it would find anything. Anyway, I placed the restore disk in it and pressed C on reeboot and it worked - foolishly I stopped it and tried again. It worked again. Had searched the entire net and a few forums before coming here. One post and its fixed!!!!
A life saver, especially at christmas as I didnt want to have to buy another laptop.
    Once again thanks
    Nick

  • New to Mac - how to re-install when G4 won't boot from CD

    Hi all
I am completely new to Mac, so bear with me here. I recently bought three G4's from my employer (they took over some old offices of a company that went bust and left all their equipment, which has been lying around for some years now). Wow, for a PC-guy like me it is quite a switch
Anyways, I managed to get one of the running and re-install with new OS (Panther) as I have the original discs.
However, one of them is causing me some problems. It is running OS X Server and has been setup with password - so when I boot up I get prompted to log on and can't get any further. It read a few places that it should be possible to boot from the install discs and then re-set the passwords. I tried holding down C when booting, but the machine won't boot from the CD. Tried holding C before powering on, before the chime, after the chime, when the logo displays, etc. Nothing helps. The key on the keyboard is working (tried it in the user-name box when I get prompted to log on)
I don't care about the conents of the drives - just want to re-install. But how to do that when the C-key isn't working to get it to boot from CD? Guess one of my problems could be that I don't have Mac keyboard and have to plug a Windows-keyboard into it. Also tried pressing the ALT key at boot up, but that does nothing either.
    Help?

It is a server yes. But it doesn't matter though about the lock.
Here's what happened so far which also solved my problem:
    - Moved around on the RAM sticks and then managed to boot into OF
    - Reset security-mode as described in various forums and guides
    - Still couldn't boot from CD - even after resetting PRAM and NVRAM.
    - So I searched the net (sorry to my boss for not doing much work today) and when I came home I was armed with many useful hints to do the dance with the machine.
... but just before we stepped onto the dance floor, I noticed a post-it taped to the side of one of the OTHER machines (I bought three from my employer's storage sale and all three from the same company whose offices they took over). And on that post it was two words one of which was Administrator. It turned out that the other one was the password. Dough. So much ado about nothing. But, at least I learned a lot about the Mac-world along the way.
However, when I pop the CD in I cannot see it when I logged on - faulty device? in "ABout this Mac" is shows the DVD-drive just fine. Is it concivable that someone could have disabled it some way? If so, how do I enable it again?
Thanks everybody for all your patience with me

  • G5 wont boot from hard drive after install

ok, so i bought my G5 from the school i go to but under their confidential stuff they had to take the hard drive from the computer before they could sell it to me. i thought that would be just fine as i could just get a new hard drive to replace it. turns out im having much more trouble then i thought. the hard drive i am using is a 1Tb western digital WD10EALS (http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/stdadp.php?p_faqid=1400&p_created=&p_pv=2.295&pprods=227%2C295). when i install the disk it boots from the leopard retail disk and it reads the hard drive just fine. i select it and it goes through the install successfully. upon rebooting though, i get the blinking folder with the question mark on it. a lot of the stuff i have read says you can go in through disk utility and partition the drive but i still have yet to see anything that says something about disk utility. when it asks where to install OS X it shows the 900 some Gb of my hard drive and when i hit options the only options it has are upgrade, archive and install, and erase and install. and when you do erase and install it gives you the option of doing "journal" format or "case sensitive, journal" format. i suspected jumper settings but when i read through the manual on the WD website it didnt seem to say anything about doing something specifically for apple. it had a jumper for slower transfer rate 1.5Gb/s one called SSC which i guess is for radio interference.
any help would make me super happy, i am a computer technician and the reason i bought this computer was to step up my apple game. but having some trouble right now. thanks for taking the time to read this!

Hi chubbs899, and a warm welcome to the forums & Macdom!
i have read says you can go in through disk utility and partition the drive but i still have yet to see anything that says something about disk utility.
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    How to format your disks...
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/partitioningtiger.html
Thanks to Pondini, Formatting,  Partitioning, Verifying,  and  Repairing  Disks...
    http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/DU.html
it gives you the option of doing "journal" format or "case sensitive, journal" format.
Don't use Case Sensitive, confuses many Apps.
i suspected jumper settings but when i read through the manual on the WD website it didnt seem to say anything about doing something specifically for apple. it had a jumper for slower transfer rate 1.5Gb/s
Yes, it needs that jumper on pins 5&6.

  • Can't boot from CD to change passwords

    Hi all,
We have a Mac Mini running in the office as a web server. However we no longer know the password for administrator access. As I have physical access and the original installation CD [I assume this is labled Mac mini Mac OS X Install Disc 1] I was hoping I could simply boot from the CD and change the password.
However whatever I try it always boots to the main login page.
I am using a Windows keyboard (UK) and am wondering if this could be the problem, though it is recognised and can type into the login boxes. I have tried holding C while booting and also tried to boot into single user mode with S and every combination of key to try and find the command key.
I borrowed a friends IBook and was able to boot into single user mode the first time I tried, so I do think it's me doing something stupid!
So my question, is it possible that it could be the keyboard in which case I need to source one from somewhere or would it be possible for the server to have been configured not to be able to boot in any other mode other than the hard drive.
    Thanks for the help.
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

You computer may have the Open Firmware Password set. See:
    <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106482>
The article does not list the G4 Mini, but I don't see why it should be different. Maybe you have the Intel Mini. If you don't know an administrator or firmware password you may be able to get the firmware password using FWSucker from
    <http://www.msec.net/software/>
If you get the password but it contains punctuation, it may not work with the UK keyboard layout. See:
    <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107577>
If you can't get the password, try:
    <http://www.msec.net/advisories/ofpwdbypass.html>
You may have a problem if your Mini has all its RAM in one module. You would have to find a different size RAM module. Maybe it would work with no RAM.

  • Problems Booting From Disk - Wireless Keyboard

I've been having problems with my 20" PPC iMac running 10.4.11 - thread here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3322473 - and have been trying to run my copy of Diskwarrior 4.1.1, as it's fixed some previous issues I've had.
I've tried dozens of times to boot from the Diskwarrior disk, but, whatever I do, the disk ejects and OS X launches as normal.
I understand that keys C and Option on the Apple wireless keyboard should be able to be "read" by the maching on start up, but I can't get it to work. The disk in the drive spins up as expected but is always ejected, and OS X is launched. I've tried both shutting down and restarting manually and restart from the Apple menu.
Exactly when should the Option or C key be depressed (eg. on the start up chime, as soon as it's switched on, before it shuts down), and for how long?

Try holding down the option key then power on. This brings up the startup manager. Click on your cd. Click on right arrow key. At least you will know if your keyboard is working.
I read your other post.  I do not have an idea what is going on.  Suggest you run the hardware test.  Many machines came with hardware tests on a cd/dvd.
You may want to run these "standard" fixes if the problem persists.
Check the amount of free space on your harddrive.  You should have a several gigs free.
    You should run disk utility
    a) verify the disk
    b) update your permissions.
    Try a safe boot.
Shutdown your machine.  Hold down the shift key.  Poweron.  Wait awhile Wait awhile while you harddrive is being checked.

You may want to run applejack to clean up your machine.

  • Folder with question mark + wont boot from disk

    Hi
I am trying to reinstall a powermac g5 from the disk, using a old hard drive that works.. (formatted in NTFS) (hoping that when selected to boot from disk, mac will then erase and reformat it)this image is presented when i hold down the option key and the disk ejects this other image is presented when i hold down C (folder with question mark blinking) and the disk ejects... also presented if i boot normally.... Could some help be offered please??????
    Powermac G5
    Thank you in advance

Yes, you must Format it HFS+ first...
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    How to format your disks...

(To Install OSX on an IntelMac the Drive it needs the GUID Partitioning scheme mentioned at the bottom.)

  • MacBook (not unibody)  will not boot from Boot Camp USB Key

    Hello
I have a MacBook Pro 2007 (17", 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM and SSD) with a defect SuperDrive, and I want to install Windows using an USB key instead. But the computer will not boot from the USB Key, even though the USB key works on my MacBook Retina. Also I was able to install Mountain Lion using USB Key, on the MBP 2007.
Here is a bit more details:
I've installed Mountaion Lion from the same USB Key (so boot from USB works).
I've installed a Windows 7 Boot Camp using the SuperDrive before (when it was not defected)
I've partitioned the harddisk using the Boot Camp assistant (this requires a Windows DVD in the SuperDriver... however it worked just enught to be able to have OS X recognize the Windows DVD, and create the Boot Camp partition). So far so good. Installing from the SuperDriver howerver does not work.
I've created an Windows USB Key using my MacBook retina. Because the Retina does not have a DVD, the Boot Camp assistant offers the creation of a bootable Windows USB Key from an Windows ISO file. I've used this USB key to install Windows on my MacBook retina.
When I try to boot my MacBook 2007 with this Boot Camp USB Key, it shows an "EFI Boot" option (with a orange USB logo) in the MacBook boot menu. When I select this nothing happpens. The mouse freezes, and the computer never boots.
    Questions:
Shouldn't I be able to boot from an EFI USB Key on this MacBook 2007, when I'm able to install Mountain Lion using a USB Key?
When I installed BootCamp using the SuperDrive, I had to do som "magic" to make it bootable. Like this: http://www.logicalvue.com/2009/10/installing-window-7-x64-on-a-macbook-pro-using -bootcamp. I tried doing the "oscdimg -n -m -bc:\efi-dvd\boot\etfsboot.com c:\efi-dvd c:\efi-iso\win7x64.iso" trick and create a EFI bootable ISO and created the from this USB key using http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/. Same result... the USB key shows up in the boot menu, but nothing happens when I select it (except the mouse freezes).
Any suggestions? Right now it feels like I have a bricked computer, because my kids needs Windows to run their games.
    : Thomas

Thanks... I just tried rEFIt... and it almost worked.
After installing rEFIt I got several different boot options:
Bootmgr.EFI - This failed quick with a "unsupported" message
Bootx64.EFI - This actually started the Windows installation with "Loading files.............". But after a few minutes when all files was loaded, the screen went black. I tried ataching an external screen, but the screen was still black.
Boot from "Bootcamp" drive... as this drive is empty nothing happend.
Boot from "USB Key"... I'm not sure how this is different from the first 2 options... but nothing happend. I belive this is what happens if I try selecting the USB key from the build in boot manager.
Ofcause, whan I saw the "Loading files......" I thought I solved the problem, but as you can tell, I'm still stucked.
Actually... I tried with both Windows 7 64 bit, Windows 8 64 bit and Windows 8 32 bit. Only Windows 8 64 bit, got me to the "Loading files.....". This was created with the Retina Boot Camp assistant.
I also tried my own home made Windows 7 and Windows 8 ISO (created with this link: http://www.logicalvue.com/2009/10/installing-window-7-x64-on-a-macbook-pro-using -bootcamp).
I guess my problem is another now. I'll continue my hunt... but I don't have more time right now. So I've installed Parallels and Windows 8 for my kids. Not optimal, but at least the can play their games.

  • When no CD in drive bios tries to boot from NIC??

I have homed in on my issue re: "invalid partition" problems upon boot. The situation is:
When Bios (K8N Neo2 Plat bios v 1.1) set to boot from Floppy, then CD, then HDD, AND WITH a CD in the drive, I get a good boot into XP Pro SP1.
If no CD in drive, or if bios set to boot sequence floppy, HDD, CD...I get no boot and a message that I have found all over the net but with no real resolution:
"For Realtek RTL81108/8169(S or 5...can't read my own writing) Gigabit Eathernet Controller beta v1.00 (030811)
Client MAC ADDR (whole lot of numbers) GUID FFFF....FFFF (whole lot of Fs)
PXE-E53: no boot file name recived
    PXE-M0F: Exsiting PXE-ROM
    Invalid Partition Table"
Now...what the heck is going on? I have read that this would seem to indicate the bios trying to boot from a network, but none of my bios settings indicate that. I've tried disabling Gigabit Ethernet in bios as well since I'm a home user and 10/100 is plenty, but no impact.
For now, I can just keep a CD in the drive but this is rediculous. ANy suggestions? Is this an issue with MSI bios 1.1 or Realtek Ethernet driver (I supposedly have the most recent verison, dated Aug 04)...???
Thanks in advance for nay inputs,
    Chris
    A64 3500+

    Similar error here..
I am booting up my system for the first time. It boots up past the Platinum screen, But then it gives me the following errors:
For Realtek RTL8110S/8169S Gigabit Ethernet Controller beta v 1.00 (030811)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
    PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM
    His fix was..
lol... I'll go ahead and tell you. I was getting all those weird errors.... saying files were corrupt and such. I noticed that in the bios it was reading my CD-RW drive as Slave and wasn't recognizing my DVD drive at all. So... I put the jumper for the DVD Drive on Master.... popped in the Windows XP CD and everything worked fine.
It's a long shot, but looks like he had a jumper wrong, and it fooled the BIOS into booting from a network.
Sounds to me like something is fooling yours.
You can get that error with RIS, but XP doesn't have RIS as such.
GUID FFFF....FFFF (whole lot of Fs) is the GUID of your firewire.
Like a NIC has a MAC address, a firewire port has a GUID. (lots of digits, more than a MAC)

  • Windows partition wont' boot from internal secondary HDD? No bootable device error

Here is my scenario: I previously had a 500GB bootcamped HDD in my 2012 macbook pro. The boot camp partition was running windows 7 and the mac partition was running 10.9. I replaced my original HDD with a 250GB SSD, took out my optical drive, and replaced that (op drive) with my original HDD. When i boot from the main drive, the SSD, it successfully recognizes the HDD with the 2 different partitions on it. But when I try to boot into my windows partition(on the HDD) by holding option at startup and selecting the windows partition, I keep getting a black screen "No bootable device. Insert boot disk and hit any key". I tried installing rEFIt, but still no luck. Here is the output from partition inspector:

Ive seen similar post, but none specific to my scenario. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to preserve the contents of my original HDD as it contains important school files I will be needing.

Please download Gdisk from http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/ . You do not have a valid MBR on disk1 so Windows will not boot, even though you can see the volume in OS X Finder on the HDD.
Use Gdisk to recreate a Hybrid MBR which includes GPT#4.
Here is an example. Please notice the spaces between 2,3 and 4.
    sudo gdisk /dev/disk0

  • Will late 2013 Mac Pro boot from MacBook Pro (8,1)?

I have a MacBook Pro which (until the delivery of my new 16 gb RAM Mac Pro) has been my main machine. When it comes I'd like to put my MBkP into Thunderbolt Target Disk Mode and use my Mac Pro as the CPU (et al) for my work. (In this way I'll have the portability of my MBkP when needed and the speed of the Mac Pro when in the office without having to change / keep track of files, etc.) I have an Dell monitor which I'll connect to via Thunderbolt to DVI as I do now from the MBkP. My MBkP has all the latest updates (eg: Sys 10.9.1 and all other updates).
My question: will this work? Or does the Mac Pro have some minimum system / hardware requirements which won't allow't to boot from the MBkP?
I await your helps with gratitude....

Think that is odd, until there is a new unified OS build for everyone, with new hardware like these there will be new builds every couple of weeks usually. 10.9.0 was long before they were ready for more than testing.
The Mac Pro 2010 went through that, even the 1,1 2006 had about three different builds before a new update for OS X existed.
OEM builds really are just that and not suitable the way retail is. I don't know how they manage pushing updates out now that it is through the App Store other than those are suitable for multiple Macs. ie, IF I have a new nMP sitting here and I 'goof' and need to reinstall the OS and I was negligant in making a backup with  T.M. or a clone, and I have to do a net-install (no Mac Pro up till now had the feature) what build gets pushed to download for me? I would hope of course it is the build I had or later but until 9.2 is out...
Which is long winded way of saying, before you make changes, before you do like someone else did couple days ago and migrate from an older MacBook Pro - and carried over out of date and  incompatible versions, and even drivers no one wants to see - make sure you have a double backup safety net.
