Trounle with 30GB

I have not synced in quite a while. When I tried to sync this morning, I received the following message:
"The ipod is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this ipod and sync wit this iTunes Library"?
I see all of my music on the laptop library and all of the music ont he iPod itself, but i am concerned about what to do now.
Please help.

Uh, no. Syncing your iPod to the "new" computer shouldn't have created a duplicate set of tracks. Unless everything in your library was purchased from the iTunes Store and it synced it back but that doesn't really make sense either. I suspect it's somehow related to upgrading iTunes but I don't know how. I've been seeing more threads involving people not being able to find their libraries at all.
I wish I had something intelligent to say on the matter. I hope someone else does.

  • Volume control problem with 30GB iPod 3G, Universal Dock, and Apple Remote

I just hooked up my 30GB iPod 3G to the Universal Doc and tried the my new Apple remote. The only buttons on the remote that work in controlling my iPod while on the dock are the play/pause and the skip forward and back buttons.
For some reason the volume up and down buttons don't adjust the volume on my iPod while it's on the dock. Any ideas? Shouldn't the volume up and down work? Or do they only work on the newer iPods?
    Any info appreciated.

    btabz,
Thanks for your response. No the iPod doesn't respond at all--the volume display doesn't come up or change.
When I press the play/pause or either skip forward or back on the remote, the iPod, while on the dock, lights up and responds to the command as it should. But when I press volume up or down on the remote the iPod does not respond at all.
According to Apple's store info on the remote, the volume up/down controls should work. I am wondering if maybe it doesn't work with the 3Gs for some reason. But if that is the case, Apple should indicate that. It is kind of frustrating to not be able to adjust the volume.
    Thanks,

  • Major Prolem with 30GB Video!!  Underwater, Instant death.  Help Please?

I have had a 30GB Video Ipod for about a year now. For the first few months it worked like a charm, but now it is not working at all. I have tried everything i can from FAQ's and other posts on apple.com, but none of the common problems pertain to mine.
To start with problems. The biggest problem is that the Ipod is not recognized by any computer. I have a Imac G5 and it is not recognized and also a Dell PC and it does not recognize it. Once i plug it into the USB, instead of DO NOT DISCONNECT, it has the nearly dead battery sign with the battery and lightning bolt. I left it for over an hour and it doesn't work. This keeps me from being able to restore the Ipod because i cannot get a computer to recognize it.
Another problem. If i plug it into a wall charger, it will charger just fine and i can use the ipod, the screen works, it says it is fully charged and all seems fine. Except when i unplug it from the wall it instantly dies. When i restart it, it shows the black screen and grey apple, but then dies.
The last problem i discovered just now, while charging on the wall charger, i plugged in BOSE headphones to see if i could listen to music still, and when i did, the music sounded underwater on all songs. I know the files are good because they work on my computer and on another ipod. So i have no idea what to do. I have let it charge for hours and still nothing. Please help.

    sounds like a corrupted clip.
disconnect the proMAX drive first, then open the project.
when the project has opened (with all media offline) then reconnect and mount the proMAX drive.
now you can start to reconnect the media ... but do it in parts, not all in one go. by a gradual process you should eventually discover which clip is causing the crash .... when you find out the corrupt clip, recapture from source.
    good luck

  • Need help with 30gb M

Ive had this Zen-M 30GB for about 3 or so years. For the past year I Can Not get my computer to reconize it. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled the zen disk "factory disk" 0x with No luck. Ive changed usb cables, I tried using the Front &rear usb port. No luck. Ive uninstalled WMP- reading that may be the problem, No luck. I'm using WMP 0 that I got off the factory CD. No luck. I cant seem to find the player in the control panel System? When I was using WMP- the service pack was 2, But now its changed to 3.
When I turn my Zen on it comes up in recovery mode and says v0.0.22 Ive scrolled downand clicked clean up and says scan disk... But it just seems to sit there? I dont think it is? Seems like its not anyways. if I click on ANY thing else it says HARD DISK PROBLEM. I'm afraid its Fried!? Ive read and read before I made this post here and cant seem to find Any Help.. I cant DO Anything to it until I can get my computer to reconize it! I Used to be able to listen to music but couldnt add any, Now I Cant do Anything! Its Stuck in recovery mode that says v0.0.22? What does that mean?
I'm running Windows XP home edition version 2002,? service pack 3.

You should do a Format>Cleanup>Reboot (Stay Away From Reload Firmware) on the device. Then connect & use a rear usb port with the dongle that came with the player & a known working cable. Yes your hardri've MAY? be bad but I would not fret too much since that is an easy part to find & replace.

  • Working out with 30GB video

I was at the gym tonight with my 30gb video ipod and one guy was saying about how you shouldn't work out with it as it is a hard drive mp3 player and not a flash drive... Is this true??? should i not run with it? What will happen to it?

I have ran with my 60gb many times and not had an issue.. just to be safe you may want to buy an armband or something to keep it secure to your body that way you wont have an issue.

  • Running with 30GB ipod

Can I use my 30GB ipod when running and working out?? I know that it is hard drive based so will running cause problems?

You'll probably be fine with it.
There's always a chance of a problem if you engage in really rigorous activity with a hard drive based iPod... but the chances are pretty good that nothing will happen during routine exercise.
Don't drop any freeweights on the iPod... that will surely cause a problem

  • Prob with 30gb Zen Nx Transferring On Real Pla

Hi i have a 30gb zen nx. I have been trying to transfer tracks with a usb cable on the realplayer software. It is ok transferring some tracks then it freezes. Also when you try to delete tracks it freezes. Only way to start again is by taking cable out, closing realplayer and re opening.
I have tried other software and that is not much better. I contacted real but they couldnt help me. I have also done a os reinstall and upgraded the firmware etc.
I would appreciate anyones help please.
    Many thanks
    Ross Patzelt

Did you update everything? You want to go to the downloads page and download:
. Drivers = Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version .30.03
    2. Software = Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2
    3. Software plugin = Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.9 for Creative MediaSource
You might also want to download the firmware (Creative NOMAD? Jukebox Zen NX firmware update version .0.02), but this is only going to work if you've got a working connection with the player.
Ultimately you need to determine if the problem is with the player or the PC, and a very quick way of checking this (reiterated in the FAQ post I think) is to install the drivers and software on another PC just to test if it works there.
Also look for the link "PC connection problems with your player" in the FAQ post, which has a lot more troubleshooting information.

  • Trouble with 30Gb Photo

first time posting on here... I looked back through a few page to see if this issue had already been addressed.
A few days ago, my 30Gb iPod Photo started skipping songs on its own. So after resetting it, it lost all it's content. I've read a couple troubleshooting guides about the computer not recognizing the iPod, but still haven't yet found a way to restore my iPod.
When using the updater, I get many different error messages such as "Can't mount iPod" or "iPod service error"
I've tried re installing just about every iPod related software on my computer, as well as trying to Format my iPod (which I can't even do).
I'm hoping I don't have to send this out for service, as my warranty expired 6 days ago...
    Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks,
    Alex

The Sad iPods icon or folder with an exclamation mark are the toughest problems to deal with, and must do a Restore in order to fix it. However, when your iPod is showing this icon, it is probably too late for your computer to recognize the iPod.
    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    8. Try to do an Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a format with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer). You may need to plug and unplug your iPod with the computer for several attempts, and switching around Format and Restore, and hope out of sudden, it will get recognized.
    9. Diagnostic mode solution – which I copied from a thread of a post from thinktwice
“Then I cam across this special Diganostics Mode that you can get to by resetting and then while the Apple is showing pressing the Select and backwards keys simultaneously. It bring up and weird Diagnostic utility witha a abunch of tests. Here is what I did
    - I tried the 5in1 test and got and error on Firewire.
    - I did the HDD R/W and surprisingly it passed.
    - I went on to the HDD scan. This supposedly tkaes acouple of minute so I waited. I think 4-5 dots appeared then nothing. The iPod started to get hot. THe disk was spinning away. After a while the battery got very low. THis test chews up the battery. So I escaped out by resetting and went to connect it to a power source.
My USB was dangling out of my computer and I was too lazy to get the Firewire AC adapter thing going so I connected expecting the whole lockup thing with iTunes. Surprise. IT was recognized immediately and has been working like a champ. So go figure.
Details on Diag mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
10.Let me ask you a question, if an iPod with no iPod software with it. When your connect it with a computer, what would happen?
Yeah, the computer will treat it as a fresh external hard disk, which will get force mounted, the computer will ask you to format the iPod. It does not really matter the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted iPod software on the iPod, after that the computer will recognize it.
Once it has been completed, eject your iPod, open the iPod updater and interestingly, you will able to do the Restore this time.
Base on the above, that's why I suggest Windows users who experience trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac machine or vice versa. PC computer will not recognize a Mac formatted iPod, but it will get mounted in an attempt to format your iPod.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.
I have just read an interesting solution about the Sad iPod, it does make sense but the warranty will be waived once you open the iPod, I would not do it myself as I am not good on doing this

  • Earlier Issue with 30Gb Ipod Video

Hey, I have a 5th generation 30Gb Ipod video. I recently went out and bought a new 2.0 USB port for a PCI slot for my Ipod since I only had a 1.1 before that.
Well my problem is, I had it plugged in last night and it had the do not disconnect screen on the ipod for about an hour, so I pulled it out without ejecting it, and later on it said that windows said that the device was not able to be identified and was malfunction try unplugging it and plugging it back in, I did that and it still would work, so I restarted my PC and got it to work, then about a hour later I was uploading some photos and it gave me the same message, so I just turned off my PC and went to bed as it was getting late.
This morning when I woke up I thought maybe it was just the port so I unplugged and plugged it back into a different 2.0 port since I got 4 with that card I bought, I then left for school and came back to find that my Ipod is working like nothing happened since I changed it's port.
I just want to know if I should pull out that warrenty card and get a new one or if that message was just because the one port could recognize something was there, but not able to tell what device it is.

  • Smoke Kit accessories for Nano compatible with 30gb Ipod???

Does anyone know if Smoke Kit accessories such as USB car & wall chargers, 3.5mm RCA cable, 3.5mm retractable cassette, audio splitter & Lanyard earphones are compatible with Ipod 30gb Video? Got the kit from Circuit City for my Nano and love it very much, in addition, saving big bucks. Kit cost about $30 and recommended for Nano. Also, just bought new 30gb IpodVideo & a little nervous to use it...Please submit your suggestion or give me some advice! Thank you.

Are you referring to a 2nd Generation iPod Nano or a 2nd Generation iPod Mini.
If it is the Nano they are compatible. It it is the Mini they should be.

  • Anyone else with 30GB battery issues?

I purchased an unopened, unused 30GB iPod the last week of September. The very day I received it, I registered the unit and purchased AppleCare protection. It became immediately apparent that my iPod wasn't holding a charge for anywhere near the 15 hours that Apple promises for this model. Before I contacted Apple, I did the requisite battery test and determined that I was getting between 8 3/4 and 9 hours on a charge. However, because it was getting more than 50% of spec, Apple refuses to fix the problem. Foolishly, I assumed that the AppleCare policy on battery life wouldn't apply to a brand new iPod.
So, my iPod was returned with no fix and a bunch of new scratches on the screen. Last night, after I had FULLY charged the battery, I plugged it into my iBook for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to make some new playlists, remove old podcasts and add a few new. When I disconnected it, I found that it had lost approximately 25% of it's charge; while it was plugged in! I called AppleCare today and told them about this new issue. Their response can be summed up as " tough cheese " and they refused to take another look at my iPod.
This is the worst, most disappointing experience I have ever had with AppleCare. I have been an Apple owner since 1988 and during that time have purchased well over $10,000 of Apple equipment and software. This is no way to repay that kind of loyalty.
I would like to know if there are other folks who have had similar problems with their 30GB Photo iPods. If Apple advertises a product as having a 15 hour battery life, it should have a 15 hour battery life. Anything else smacks of false advertising.

I've got a really frustrating issue:
First, a couple of days ago the iPod wouldn't go on long enough and would shut down. I'd have to keep recharging it and it would only play for a few hours before losing all its charge (ostensibly). For instance, I'd have it charge overnight (from a shut down, black screen state), go to university in the morning listening to it, and when coming back it wouldn't be working (having gone back to shut down, black screen state in my pocket sometime during the day).
Then it reached a point where I would recharge it, it would say it's fully charged, and when I removed it from the adaptor it would still say it's fully charged. If I pressed menu, the top-right mini-indicator would be at fully charged. Once in a while it would show the indicator at some odd level (anywhere from full, to half, to barely anything).
I tried to run the "15 hour test" for my iPod, having wiped it and restored it: putting in an album, I started playing it on repeat at about 10 pm and woke up at 6 am to see that it had shut down, black screen (didn't even last eight hours).
So I left it off for well over twenty-four hours. Then I charged it up again. Same problem: the fully-charged indicator won't go away. Right now I started this repeat play at about 2:15 pm, and it's about an hour away from 2:15 am and it's still going fine. So it seems the battery is okay.
The problem, then is that the "fully charged" status won't go away in the top-right. I don't know how much charge the battery is holding or isn't holding.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Synching Movie with 30GB

When trying to sync a movie i just downloaded the snyc began and a few seconds in a received the error message "Attempting to copy to the disk "Ipod" failed. THe disk could not be read from or written to"
My first attempt was to try again, and the same error message appeared. I then went through the 5 r's and the problem still persisted.
Next i went on to the troubleshooting topic and went through those fixes and used them. The only one i could not get to work was repairing the disk drive, and because i'm a windows user i had to use the chkdsk command and it did not work properly, or i did not format it properly.
Anyway that still did not help and i went so far as to copy the movie file to a different folder, delete the original and then import it back in. Still the movie will not sync with the ipod. My best guess is the lack of USB 2.0 drives, in which case i would have to install a hub. But i would prefer another way out if possible. Any help would be appreciated
Dell Dimension 4300   Windows XP   No 2.0 USB drives

    Hi
May be You mean this ?
Play all resp one chapter at a time
    Play All Button
    1. There are NO - Play All - button in any version of iDVD
    2. It can be faked in several ways
    • Easiest and most fault proof way is to make a doublet movie containing All and with
Chapters set to match. It will take up x2 space but is easy to understand and produce.
Cons: Tried this in iMovie’11 by Exporting out each part as a full Quality QT.mov then Importing back into new events and putting these into a new project (Play All project). Resulting DVD had Audio that was OK (as parts) - BUT the picture was very bad and standing photo were cut of in hight. So the Play All movie has to be created from same material and exactly in the same way as the individual parts + then Chapters has to be set to match.
    • It's said that one can put all movies into a Photo/SlideShow and this will also
give the function of a Play All button - Tested - and ONE HAS TO un-cheque - Scale pictures to TV-Safe area else it will be a black frame all around and a small picture !
    Mike Evangelist1
You might be able to get close to what you want by using a slideshow in iDVD. (It's not widely known, but you can put videos in a slideshow.) If you set the slide duration to manual, playback will pause after each movie/slide, and you can continue with the 'next' button.
    3. Using another program to do this e.g.. Roxio Toast™ where there is a Play All button option.
    Summary
    a. Making a Play All movie with same care as the individual Part movies - gives a very Good Result
    b. Using Roxio Toast™ - also an usable way to go

I have a 30GB Photo, and if I let it sit like overnight, it goes into some sort of sleep mode. When you hit the button to turn it on, the silver apple on black background comes on and the hard drive spins up and when it finishes its killed off almost a 1/4 of my battery life.
Is there any way to disable this so that I wont have to charge this sucker so quickly?

What you are experiencing is sleep/deep sleep and there is no way to disable this.

If you are judging the battery life by using the icon, then wait a few minutes and you should find it returns to normal.
