True Widescreen Video on iPod Classic

Hi there, I have a new iPod classic and I've just put some videos on it. They are widescreen videos and they even show up as widescreen pics on their little thumbnails in the iPod's list of videos. However when I play them they are stretched to fit the screen and everyone's faces etc are stretched vertically.
The 'Fit to Screen' option is OFF. Toggling the 'Widescreen' option on or off doesn't change anything either.
The only reason I can think is that these are true widescreen videos, i.e. they are not letterboxed into a 4:3 ratio with black bars; they are actually in a 16:9 ratio with no black bars. Could it be that the iPod needs them to be letterboxed...?
Please help
Thanks,
Josh

I think your guess is correct. In my very limited endeavors into converting video for my iPod, that 16:9 was some bad news. When I was using ImToo to convert, I did have to have it set to letterbox. Now I use Videora. When I was using ImToo and things went wrong with 16:9 letterbox, there was nothing to be done but re-convert from the original file in a stochastic process hoping to stumble on a proper aspect. Now I just use settings for Videora I found on the net and took me thinking right out of the equation! Since that isn't an option for you I'm afraid you'll have to suffer it or reacquire from a new source. However, I may be wrong. I am not all that knowledgeable. I just didn't want you to go unanswered and thought I'd share my limited experience.

  • How do you know the true age of your ipod classic..

how can i find out the true age of the ipod classic.. i know its a newer version.. but how do i know if it was sitting on a shelf forever or brand new from apple...

You should see it in part of the description once the divice is connected to the computer through a usb cable. Or you could look at the number by going on setting on your ipod touch then go to general then from there go on about scroll down until you see serial number and ther it is.

  • Having trouble syncing video to Ipod Classic 160GB

    Hi all,
Finally moved up to an Ipod after a few too many years with other brands...and am really enjoying the Ipod/Itunes combo for music.
Video's a different matter, though, and I could use your help!
I'm trying to get a few videos onto my Classic, and have converted them into MP4 format and put them in the "Movies" folder in Itunes (they show up alongside every video I've shot on my digital camera). My Ipod is set to sync automatically, and does so for music, but not for video. I was able to get the videos on using the instructions I found on http://www.ehow.com/how4925922download-videos-onto-ipod-classic.html , but the next time I synced music on my Ipod, it removed the videos I'd added.
Is there a way that I could add videos manually, and keep syncing music automatically, without the automatic syncing removing things that I added manually? Or could I set Itunes/Ipod up such that music is automatically queued for syncing, while videos need to be approved for syncing?
Basically, how can I get this to work?
    Many thanks for your help.

    Hello stopheles,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
How do you currently have your iPod set up to sync Videos? What settings do you have enabled from under the Videos tab for your iPod in iTunes? Specifically, the "Automatically sync (Select Option Here, e.g. all) movies" option on this tab.

  • Can't transfer video to ipod classic

I recently added 6 new videos to my Itunes library. When I tried to manually transfer them to my Ipod Classic only 1 of the 6 shows up on my Ipod. When I drag any of the other ones over it shows the little green plus sign, but never has the spinning circle that shows it's adding it to the Ipod. All of the videos are the same format and all will play through itunes. I tried resetting the ipod, but no help. Any suggestions?

I figured it out. I went to play the video directly from iTunes rather than trying to transfer it to the iPod. I got a message I am not authorized, just like before. But this time it asked me if i want to authorize it. I clicked yes, obviously and voila...successful authorization. Now I can play it on my computer and iPod. Sorry for wasting everyone's time with this.

  • Using Video with iPod Classic 80GB

    Hello All,
I am James I am a new user with the iPod, I have a Classic Black Colour, 80GB. So far I use it for muisic, Photos and wanted to watch movies. Does it support movies at all? I put some video clips in mp4 format, itunes converted to a suitable format but then When I watched it, I could only hear it with a picture displayed and no movie loading. Is this normal? or am I doing something wrong?
Another thing is that I don't have a proper user manual? Do you know where I can download one?
    regards
    James

On your iPod go to "Videos / Video Settings".
Then select "TV Out" and either set it to "off" or "ask".
Also, make sure you are accessing the video through the videos menu. If you have a video mixed in an audio playlist and you access it through that, you also won't be able to see the video.

  • Downloading hd video for ipod classic

I downloaded some TV shows from the Itunes store for my Ipod classic.  I find out after I purchased them that they will not play on the Ipod.  From what I am reading, it sounds like the HD versions will not play on an Ipod classic.  That seemed strange since I am very certain that I have downloaded other HD videos from the store and never ran into this problem.  Possibly the other HD videos were not 1080?  I also don't recall being given the option to download the SD version and it does not appear that I can go back now and do so.  Any help?

HD videos, whether 720p or 1080p, will not play on an iPod classic. Previously when buying HD versions of shows you automatically also received the SD version, but now only the HD copy will automatically download now (probably due to requests from people who don't need/want the SD version and complained about it being forced on them). The SD copy can be downloaded from your purchases area in iTunes. On the main iTunes Store page, go to Purchases under the Quick Links and then select TV shows. Click the "Not On This Computer" button. Uncheck the "Download HD when available" box and you should then see the SD copies of the shows and be able to download them.
    Regards.

  • Protected videos and iPod classic

    Hello,
I recently bought a new iPod Classic (7th gen, 160 GB) to replace a stolen 120GB iPod.  When I tried to sync all of my movies to the iPod, I got the 'can't be played on this iPod' message.  They are all standard definition movies, and they synced just fine with my 120GB classic.  When I highlight the video (protected mpeg-4), it does not give me the option to convert to an iPod format.  But again, I didn't have to do this step with my 120GB iPod.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

If the message says the wall charger is not supported then its telling you that there probably is not sufficient charge to keep your touch going that means unfortunately that you will be best served by purchasing an official charger from apple or finding one through ebay the good news is that the quality of the ebay chargers is very strong but be forewarned that even the best will not work well in electrical systems where you have multiple connections coming from say a surge reducer or its like.

  • Insert video on ipod classic 160 gb

i have an ipod classic 160GB bought on christmas 2010. i tried to upload a video ".wav" and ".mpeg" extention but is not possible. i should say that after that i can' see the "video" on my ipod at itunes menu.
what should i do to simply drag a video in the ipod and in which format?

    Hello Birlas,
    From your iPod's tech specs:
H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
So the videos you wish to sync to your iPod must be in one of the above formats. If you have already imported the video successfully into iTunes but still cannot sync it to your iPod, you can use iTunes built in converter. To do this, highlight the video, right->click on it and choose *Create iPod or iPhone version*.
If you need to convert a video into a format that is acceptable for iTunes, you are going to need the help of 3rd party software. [MPEG Streamclip|http://www.squared5.com> is a good one, but there are plenty of others out there.
And here is more information on syncing movies to your iPod.

  • Can't play videos on ipod classic

I'm unable to play mp4 videos on my iPod Classic. I can play them fine in my iTunes library on my computer, and they are loaded onto my iPod.  But when I click to play the videos nothing happens (I get a black screen for a moment, then nothing).  I've dowloaded the latest version of iTunes and not sure what else to try.  Any suggestions welcome, thanks.

  • Syncing HD video to iPod classic

How do I sync HD videos to my iPod classic?

    Hey allanfrommo,
Here is an article that addresses this question about HD videos and your iPod:
iTunes: Sync purchased HD videos to iPod or iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4223
HD videos purchased from the iTunes Store are offered in 720p or 1080p1 and are compatible with iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), Apple TV, and computers. You may need to download your purchased video from iTunes in the Cloud in a lower resolution for your device.2

  • "Auto Play" feature for Videos on iPod Classic 160Gb

I have a 160GB iPod Classic, that just came out about a year ago, and it is updated with the latest firmware (or so says iTunes). I’m also using iTunes 8. I have also gone through all the usual help desk diagnostic processes, the ones in which they assume we, the consumers, are MORONS and cannot do the basic "self-fixes" prior to contacting them +(I have reset, then restored the iPod and have the latest version)+. I am still having this issue.
With my original iPod Classic I scroll to Video and click on one of the show’s folders within it, and by simply pressing the PLAY button while the folder containing the videos is highlighted, the iPod Classic would play ALL videos within that folder. Now, with the remanufactured one they sent to replace my defected one, when I scroll to Video, click on one of the subfolders and press play, a blank “play” screen comes up and nothing else happens. No videos play and no sound. So now, instead of being able to play all within the folder, I have to open the show’s folder, and click on the individual episode and play them individually instead of having an “auto play” feature as before so that I could leave the iPod alone and do other things without having to bother with it.
Is there a fix to this? Thanks!

I am not sure if we understand each other. I knew about all the fields under "Get info" feature and I have filled all of them. The problem is that the movies are not sorted according those fields in the iPod! I mean I can easily see list of genres in the music section of my iPod. But you can never see the same in the movies section! The only list which is available for movies is list of all movies sorted by title. You cannot for example see all movies with selected artist. You cannot see all movies from compilation "Holidays 2008". You cannot sort movies by genre.... I mean you can do it in iTunes, but it has no influence on iPod.

  • Quicktime Videos onto iPod Classic

    Hi
I received an iPod classic for Christmas. I have several movies on my iBook that I had transferred onto my computer from the DVD transfer program, HandBrake. They are Quicktime formatted and I successfully transferred them into my iTunes library. However when I went to sync by iPod it said the movie could not be copied to my iPod because it cannot be played on my iPod.
    Any suggestions or helpful hints?

  • Videos on iPod Classic

I have a little Flip video recorder and want to put the videos I take with it onto my Classic. How do I do that. I tried copying the films into iTunes but they don't appear. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hey there,
What type of format are the movie files? You may have to convert them to one that is compatible with the iPod. Compatible types are *.mp4, *.mov, and *.m4v, and H.264. You may have to install a third party application to convert the files to the right type. There are plenty out there. Hope this helps.

  • HELP!!! manually managaing music/video for IPOD classic PROBLEM

i set my ipod to manually manage music/video because i want to save space on my computer, etc.
so i made that my setting and i applied it and everything.
so i unchecked everything in my library. and when i add a song to my library, i check it, so it will be added to my ipod when i synch.
but when i synch, that particular song that i checked is not added to my ipod.
what is the problem with this?
    any help is much appreciated!
    thanks

I think you are confusing the two meaning of manual management.
When they asked and you said you would manually manage it, you told itunes not to copy things to your device because you planned to do it manually with the computers file browser.
If that is not what you want, and what it sounds like, you should allow itunes to manage the device, and then the check box thing you are trying to do should work for you.
