Truetype fonts displaying blank in CS 5 apps

Howdy,
We have some fonts of ours which show up in the font menu, but when you change to that font, it displays nothing. Say you type a sentence, then select it and then change the font its using. Blank!!!!, looks like it dissappears. But if you move to another font, it appears again, in the chosen font.
We are running Windows XP sp3 and have updated indesign to the latest patch, but it appears as if it doesn't work across all CS5 apps.
The fonts show and work perfectly in every other windows app.
The same fonts worked perfectly in CS 4.
It is very similar to this post

Here are the fonts we are having problems with. Does this happen to anyone else?

Thanks,

when i create a text box, type in some text and change the font to any of the metaplus fonts the cursor returns to the top left corner of the box as though nothing has been typed at all. I can't "select" anything as such as there is nothing to select however if I am still able to change the fonts to something else and all the text will reappear.
If I use the pointer (or anything to stop working with the text box) and then go back and try and select or change the text I can't select or change it using the mouse. The only way I've been able to is to go into the text box, press Ctrl+A and go to the drop down list for the fonts and change it to something thats visible.
no red plus sign is showing up either.
I've also tried deleting the font cache lists which hasnt made any difference.

    In my Iphone 5, Nothing on my App Store is working,  its displaying blank (Except for Genius section). I've tried to uninstall and install itunes and all its component in my desktop but still it doesn't fix the app store issue. Not sure if its problem with apple servers. Someone help please!

    settigns>itunes and app store to make sure you are signed in.. If  you are, you will see your account name..... anyhow, click your account name, sign out and sign back in
    also go to to settings>general>reset and reset network settings... if that doesnt work settings>general>reset and reset all settings!
    one of those shall work. The last step would be to restore your device (apple.com/support) HT1414

  • Fixed layout ePub not display truetype font properly when uploaded to Amazon

    I've created a kids book with inDesign CC which works fine on iPad but when I upload the book to Amazon KDP, the font which is a truetype font and not protected doesn't display properly. It has unusual spacing between the charaters and sometimes the letters overlap each other.  Can i embed this font somehow to have it display properly? I can't find an option anywhere to do that. Or will I have to change the font entirely?  Many thanks.

    Hi Yves,
    Yes, it is an SIL license. I am not using Allatuq anymore, I switched to Quicksand which I got from fontsquirrel.com.
    Yes, there is a fixed layout epub option in inDesign CC 2014:
    It even has some default sizing options though I have gone with a custom size to account for larger devices, desktop reading etc and am hoping that it's going to work.
    The Kindle previewer (desktop version) displays perfectly.
    The online previewer has had some display issues with what looks like drop shadows on some images but i'll need to look at the actual file on multiple devices to see what the reality is.
    There are some inconsistencies between how the fonts look in the previewers. The online one is not perfect and the desktop previewer displays exactly as designed so again, I won't really know until I can get my hands on the devices. There is also a sizing issue with the online previewer that the desktop previewer doesn't seem to have. And then there will be the issue that the "purchase" file isn't consistent with the preview file you download so not sure how it will all pan out yet.
    I had lots of overlapping and other character spacing issues until I changed my font to the OTF Quicksand with the SIL License. I'm hoping the drop shadows are just an issue with the online previewer.
    And I'm hoping my conclusion is correct that the OTF with the SIL licenses work for embedding so long as you remove the encryption and replace the encrypted font with the orignal version (and include the license). And I'm hoping that is allowed.

  • Better font display: Ask for tester

    Here is my chinese opmitised fonts.conf file, and ANYBODY who is using another language is supposed to benefit from it, you can get better font display if it works, so I ask for more tester, all you neet to do is to replace your original fonts.conf file(under your /ete/fonts/) with this one, don't forget backup firstly.
    I don't know how to enclose an attachment, so I post my fonts.conf 's content here, I am using freetype 2.1.8 and fontconfig 2.2.2, I compiled them by abs, and almost the same PKGBUILD as Judd, however I don't apply any patches.

    I got brave and gave your font.conf a shot.  everything worked great but when building the fontconfig pkg I had to change the source line to...
    source=(http://freedesktop.org/~fontconfig/release/fontconfig-2.2.2.tar.gz)
    other than that the freetype and font pkgbuild files worked and installed fine.
    When I replaced my font.conf file with yours, after backing up mine ofcourse, and rebooted I didn't have any problems but the overall apearence was not as good as it was when using my original file. I switched back to my original and no harm done. I don't speak chinese but was curious. I'm just learning abs and building my own packages. I was impressed with your pkgbuild files working and then installing with no errors. The first ones I have ever used that worked.  but now when I run pacman -Su it wants to upgrade back to fontconfig-2.2.1-2 and freetype2-2.1.7-1. I should say downgrade. I guess I need to search for an answer to why it doesn't recognize the new pakages as being the latest.

  • How to solve some fonts displayed as squares issue.

                             Hi,
              I try to stabilize a pdf generation config with specific parameters to allow exact render of text with any reader.
    1°| Configuration
    RIP
    Compatibility: pdf 1.5
    Compression: images only, zip
    Fonts: all integrated, no substitution.
    [PDFCreator only:
    ghostscript x64 9.06 (junction to a independant install as PDFCreator install 32b version)
    use windows fonts yes
    no fontmap files]
    PRINTER
    Substitution table: no substitution
    Smallest vector font size: 10px
    TrueType Fonts: Download as soft font
    Postscript: Optimize portability
    Download TrueType Fonts: Native TrueType
    Postscript level: 3
    Since this problem occurs for years now, i can mention 2 products and version concerned at now:
    -PDFCreator version 1.6.2 (always occured as long as i can remember).
    -novaPDF version 7.7 build 387
    Reader affected is Adobe READER X version 10.1.5.33 (option use local fonts on or off no effect)
    Reader not affected evince version 2.32.0.145
    System Windows 7 x64 Fr
    Browser Firefox 18.0.2
    2°| Issue
    You can encounter this problem even with testpage printing (Title replaced by squares) but it's not the most annoying case so i will present it true a webpage problem.
    For instance with css supressed:
    http://www.loc.gov/standards/sru/specs/transport.html#soap
    With Firefox configured with default font Times New Roman
    Then try to print to pdf with either PDFCreator or novaPDF, open with Adobe reader you get :
    Properties:
    open with evince you get:
    Properties:
    Strange!
    But now let's try to use a font from adobe reader Minion Pro.
    properties:
    with evince:
    properties:
    When saving to html file and open with LibreOffice Title appears to be verdana;helvetica;sans-serif.
    Export to pdf give this:
    (As export is not a printing i show this because long time ago i used makepdf if i remember which was not a printer.)
    Is True Type not supported ?
    Do i need to modify adobe reader config manually?
    I need new ideas for a solution as it's not possible to ask everyone to use evince... and Times New Roman is not the only font causing this issue.
    Thanks for reading.

    Actually, because the difference was intriguing, I found a little more time. Here is a discussion of the problem. I do not expect it to mean anything to you, but can be passed along to the maintainers of GhostScript and/or PDFCreator if you wish.
    The file was created by GPL GhostScript 9.06, application PDFCreator Version 1.6.2.
    In creating this PDF, the three TimesNewRoman fonts were embedded, as symbolic fonts
    with randomly assigned glyphs starting with index 0. No Encoding was used in the font
    dictionary. They contain a (1,0) and (3,0) cmap subtable.
    The TimesNewRoman font is set up almost correctly, with Flags 4 (symbolic), though 6 would be
    better prthaps (symbolic, serif)
    The TimesNewRoman,Bold and ,Italic fonts had Flags 34 and 98 respectively. Crucially, these
    do not set the symbol flag (values of 6 and 70 respectively would work as expected).
    ISO 32000-1 9.6.6.4 talks about how Encoding is managed for TrueType fonts. It identifies
    two cases which should "ensure predictable behaviour across all conforming readers":
    * A nonsymbolic font should specific MacRoman Encoding or WinAnsiEncoding.
    * A font not using standard encodings should not specify an Encoding; should set the
    Symbol Flag; and should contain a 1,0 subtable.
    Neither of these cases apply to the ,Bold or ,Italic case (but the presence of a Symbol
    flag would make them apply, and tests show this increases consistency).
    Hence, this is in the territory officially described by ISO 32000-1 as "dependent on
    the conforming reader" and not honouring "should follow certain guidelines to ensure
    predictable behaviour across all conforming readers".
    The behaviour of this PDF is not predictable, as has been seen (evince displays as expected
    by the user, if not by the specification, while Acrobat, Mac OS X Preview and Chrome do not).
    Recommend that the PDF creation module in GhostScript be modified to follow one of the
    two cases above, for consistent rendering.

  • My nokia N-70 Music Edition Screen displayed blank...

    Hi
    nokia N-70 Music Edition Screen displayed blank after few hours.After Removing battery,put again & start it becomes ok for few hours.I have already updated the Software Nokia N-70 but no advantage.
    Wht should i do?

    strange enough some of the pre-installed apps on the N70 are on the memory card and not the phone memory. which means formatting the memory card will remove everything. it's difficult to get everything back but try these :
    1- try to find what you need on the n70 support page
    http://europe.nokia.com/A4144775
    check phone software.
    2- if you have the download app installed on your phone , run it and check for the app there.if not check the nokia download store. http://www.download.nokia.com/
    3- if your mamory card is not the original provided with the phone, locate your old memory card. using a computer copy and paste the following folders from the old original one to the new one:
    * resource
    * sys
    * private (copy the subdirectories only and not the whole folder)
    4- if something is still missing after all this, i guess it's gone for good
    Fear not those who argue but those who dodge

  • Chinese font display problem

    In the javascripts of this web site http://weiqi.sports.tom.com/php/zhuanti/zhuantinew.php?id=23
    ( follow any red link in this page, there will be a javascript popped up), some chinese characters can not be displayed in the right text box and no matter how many changes I make in the fontconfig.properties file about the Chinese font, there is no change of the chinese characters in these java script pages (in the right text box and on the lowerright buttons).
    I want to change all the chinese font displayed on the javascripts to the font "ar pl shanheisun uni", how to? Thanks.
    My system is Ubuntu 7.04, locale is zh_CN.UTF-8. Jre 1.6.0 or Jre 1.5.0.
    I used another Redhat 9.0 system(Jre 1.5.0_02), it can display these characters in the another chinese font. That system is not configured by myself. So I think there must be some way to change these fonts.
    Here is my fontconfig.properties file:

  • Chinese Font Display Issues

    Dear Adobe Community,
    I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS6, and using chinese characters for my text. I've been using "Xingkai SC" however strangely, some characters when typed will display correctly as "Xingkai SC" but others will not, and will automatically switch to "Adobe Heiti Std." I don't understand why this is happening, and would like to know the solution so that all characters appear as "Xingkai SC" instead of typing chinese and getting two fonts together in the same sentence. Here's a picture of this below. (a) As you can see the ( Left to right) 1rst and 3rd characters display "Xingkai SC" but the 2nd and 4th characters are displaying "Adobe Heiti Std."Also even when I highlight the text and manually try changing the text to "Xingkai SC" nothing happens, and everything remains the same. Also another quick question. When selecting fonts what does the "O" and "TT" mean? Hopefully can get the frustrating character issue resolved.

    We use mostly English/Latin fonts so it's very hard to get someone who knows about Chinese fonts and Photoshop issues on a Mac.  However I can give you something to go on.
    You have to consult Chinese design forums, here is one to try.
    http://bbs.blueidea.com/forum.php
    TT = TrueType fonts  OT = Opentype fonts.  You will need to read up on those terms.
    A suggestion for a good Chinese font to try. It may solve your problem:

  • Text displays too small in mail app

    Help!
    I just received the 15" MacBook Pro with enhanced resolution screen (not the Retina display).  At the highest resolution, all of the fonts display incredibily small.  However, the lower resolution options don't seem to match the aspect ratio of the screen and create distortion.  I can deal with this on Safari because it allows pinch and zoom resizing.  However, I have not figured out how to zoom in on the Mail app.  Using Command + is not a good solution because it actually increases the font size that the recipient views.  I have to go all the to 30pt font to make it comfortable to view.  Also, using Control and two finger swipe to zoom in a poor option as well because not everything will display.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I believe that you are having a problem with emails sent in html format from certain contacts.  I had the same problem, and I found this to fix it:
    1. Quit Mail
    2. Open the Terminal and type in the following:
    defaults write com.apple.mail MinimumHTMLFontSize 12
    3. Restart Mail.app and your HTML messages are readable.
    You don't have to choose 12 point. Select whatever you like.

  • Embedded fonts display differently in mx and spark

    Hi there,
    My apologies if this is an known issue but I have not been able to find any posts describing this problem. As the title of the discussion describes the problem I see is that when embedding the same font for spark and mx components they display differently to the point of making the application look sloppy. I created a small app to illustrate the problem:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <s:Application
        minWidth="955" minHeight="600"
        xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
        xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
        xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx">
        <fx:Declarations>
            <!-- Place non-visual elements (e.g., services, value objects) here -->
        </fx:Declarations>
        <fx:Style>
    @namespace s "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark";
    @namespace mx "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx";
    @font-face
    src:url("arial.ttf");
    fontFamily: arialCFF;
    embedAsCFF: true;
    @font-face {
    src:url("arial.ttf");
    fontFamily: arialNoCFF;
    embedAsCFF: false;
    advancedAntiAliasing: false;
    s|Label
    fontFamily: arialCFF;
    fontSize: 20px;
    mx|Label
    fontFamily: arialNoCFF;
    fontSize: 20px;
    </fx:Style>
        <s:layout>
            <s:VerticalLayout
                paddingLeft="10"
                paddingTop="10"/>
        </s:layout>
        <s:Label text="This is a label that uses spark"/>
        <mx:Label text="This is a label that uses mx"/>
    </s:Application>
    I used the Arial.ttf font I found in my mac, though I have also tried with courier new and even the myriad web pro provided with an example in the SDK. Also I have tried with SDKs 4.1, 4.5 and 4.5.1. I have played with the value of advancedAniAliasing as well. Regardless of the combination I will still see differences such as this:
    Is this a known issue? Any solutions at hand?
    Thanks in advance for the help!!

    Hi there,
    Thanks for the quick reply. I was able to make fonts display correctly after hacking the display of some components (mx.controls.FormItem for example) however I did notice a whole buch of runtime warnings that showed up as a result of the workaround such as:
    warning: incompatible embedded font 'arialCFFFont' specified for mx.core::UITextFormat. This component requires that the embedded font be declared with embedAsCFF=false.
    TextFieldAutomationHelper:captureSelection() - 'selectionBeginIndex' is not implemented in FTETextField.
    And in some cases for components I do not even use:
    warning: incompatible embedded font 'arialCFFFont' specified for mx.controls::TextInput (TextInput1967) . This component requires that the embedded font be declared with embedAsCFF=false.
    Any ideas on how to avoid this noise or do we have to live with this?

  • Font display issues

    Upgraded to Lion on an iMac, now I have strange font display issues across applications and in browsers and specifically with numbers, somethimes letters.

    Start with something relatively simple, like clearing the font cache files.
    Close all running applications. From an administrator account, open the Terminal app and enter the following command. You can also copy/paste it from here into the Terminal window:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
    Terminal will then ask for you to enter your admin password. As you type, it will not show anything, so be sure to enter it correctly.
    This removes all font cache files. Both for the system and the current user font cache files. After running the command, close Terminal and immediately restart your Mac.

  • Can't import MapInfo TrueType fonts into MapBuilder

    Hi forum
    I am trying to import TrueType fonts from MapInfo, that we used to use in the MapInfo application, that we are migrating from. I try to use the "Import TrueType font" function in MapBuilder, but when I want to view the font afterwards, I just get a blank page. I have tested with the font MapInfo Cartographic (TTMICG__.TTF), which you can obtain as part as the free "MapInfo ProViewer" package from MapInfo, available here:
    http://extranet.mapinfo.com/products/download.cfm?ProductID=1062
    My own first idea was, that the underscores in the filename might cause trouble, but that doesn't seem so. Renaming the TTF file didnt make any difference. The file seems to import ok, but the Preview window remains empty.
    I have tried importing a "standard" font like Times New Roman, and that appears to work fine. Are there any specific type of TrueType fonts, that MapBuilder does not like, and which you therefore for some reason cannot use in a marker style for MapViewer?
    Thanks in advance

  • Problem with fonts display in safari and mail ???

    hello !
    sometimes i have problems with fonts display
    safari use a mathematics font instead of my preferences fonts
    i have to copy-paste in a text-editor to see the right font !!!
    i have the same problems sometimes in mail
    is anybody have infos about that problem ?
    thanks !
    p.s. mail version 1.3.11 - safari version 1.3.1

    OS X cocoa apps like Safari and Mail don't like non-Unicode fonts using common names that replace Latin with symbols or other scripts. Helvetica Fractions and Times Phonetic are common culprits. You need to remove such fonts to solve the problem.

  • TrueType font in printing

    Hi all,
    Why we are not using Truetype Font in printing. In my concern all the jobs having OTF and Postscript font. Which one is better for printing. I don't have knowledge fully. Can anyone help me...

    OK!
    The response from macinbytes is correct with relationship to Type 1 fonts using Bezier curves and TrueType using quadratic curves for the outline defintions. There are also differences in how hinting is specified. (Hinting is the process by which font outlines are intelligently scaled such that at low magnifications - i.e., the result of both resolution and point size - text is still readable.) Type 1 fonts use mechanisms that rely on both information in the font and a very intelligent rasterizer. TrueType fonts rely almost totally on information in the font itself.
    Despite the font wars of the early 1990s, properly designed and created fonts in both Type 1 and TrueType format are perfectly capable of being displayed and printed without any difficulty by operating systems and RIPs respectively that conform to the Type 1 and TrueType specifications. Since the late 1990's every printer with Adobe PostScript has natively supported TrueType as well as Type 1 fonts. Contrary to urban legend, TrueType fonts are not first converted to Type 1 fonts before rendering. Adobe has a full TrueType renderer in all its graphic arts products including Adobe PostScript, the Adobe PDF Print Engine, Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat.
    OpenType fonts are effectively a special case of both Type 1 and TrueType font formats. OpenType CFF fonts are the equivalent of Type 1 fonts within what looks like a TrueType wrapper and have a file suffix of .OTF. OpenType TrueType fonts are the equivalent of Windows TrueType fonts within the TrueType wrapper and generally have a .TTF file suffix. In both cases, OpenType fonts cater to Unicode encoding and support significant features beyond just the font outlines and bare bones font metrics. There is also available support for ligatures, swash alternates, contextual alternates, etc. For further information about OpenType fonts, you might want to look at http://www.adobe.com/type/opentype/ and http://www.microsoft.com/typography/SpecificationsOverview.mspx.

  • Font Display Panel Problems

    I was reading an online article about using iWeb
    http://www.mymac.com/showarticle.php?id=3047
    and there is a screen shot of the font display panel
    This is the panel many applications use to allow the user to adjust the fonts. If you open TextEdit and go to Format/Font/Show Font the Font Panel will appear.
    As you can see in the iWeb article the screen shot shows recently used fonts. The fonts show how they actually appear or they are preview. When I bring up iWeb o TextEdit I don't see that preview. If I select the Gear icon in the lower left corner I can turn on Show Preview but this just brings up a header show what a selected font looks like. The fonts in the list don't change.
    There seems to be a problem with my Recently Used and Favorite lists. There are a few fonts in my list but they are not grouped together. There are blank rows listed between the shown fonts. However if I click in the blank area a font is selected and if you have any text selected in the document it will change that text.
    If I choose a new font for a TextEdit document that font never shows up in the Recently Used list.
    Is there a preference file for this panel? It appears my font display panel is not working correctly.
    Are others having these issues?
    Thanks
    Kelvin

    I have an iBook running 10.4.11 and the recently used collections gets updated correctly. However when adding a font to the the Favorites collection there are blank rows between the fonts I've added. Also if you select the font type and not the specific font such as the bold, or regular it doesn't copy all of them.
    Also, unlike in Leopard when you select the Recently Used collection you see what the font looks like show in the list irrespective if the preview panel is activated. Looks like for Leopard the font display panel was changed or not tested thoroughly.
