Truly delete gmail account in Mavericks

I am trying to rebuild a corrupt gmail account from scratch in Mavericks so I'd like to delete it and then re-add it as if it were a brand new account.
I've tried deleting the account from Internet Accounts in System Preferences, but every time I re-add it, all of my old corrupt emails are still sitting in Mail. It's clear that Mavericks is caching all of my old gmails and gmail settings somewhere (or in multiple places) in the library.
Could someone advise which library files to remove so that this account is truly deleted from my computer?
thanks!

Sadly this didn't do the trick.  I deleted the account iin Preferences, then I deleted the gmail folder within the V2 folder and readded the gmail account in Preferences.  But the same old emails were sitting in my Inbox.
Might there be another folder where Mavericks is caching some Mail data?
Yes, on the server.
Gmail is an Imap system, email on the server synchronizes with the client (Mail in your case)
So if the mail is on the server it will be on the client, no matter how many times you delete and recreate the account.

  • Deleted Gmail Account still showing !

    Hello All
I have a 3Gs iPhone that i setup with several email accounts including a GMail account, all was working fine, but i needed to delete the GMail account, which i did, their is now no account listed when you go into Mail:Accounts etc. however when i send a email from any other account, it shows as being sent from the deleted GMail account !- very strange
    Any help would be great
    Thanks in advance
    Regards

    Tom,
If you click on the account, and choose the - icon, you should see this:
What happens if you next click on "Internet Accounts?"

  • Delete gmail account from iOS mail

gmail shows up as an inactive account in my ios mail settings.  however, gmail still  loads into my inbox.  I want to eliminate gmail completely and only get icloud mail.  I can't find a way to do it.

Since you are in the Mac OS 10.9 (Mavericks) forum but are asking about iOS (iPhone, iPad, etc), I'm not sure how to answer.  So, here is how to do it in either:
In Mavericks (i.e. on a Mac):
Open "System Preferences" > "Internet Accounts"
Select your Google account in the left sidebar
Click the "-" icon at the bottom left to delete the account
In iOS (i.e. on an iPhone):
    Touch "Settings"
    Touch "Mail, Contacts, Calendars"
    Touch your Gmail Account
At the bottom of the screen, touch "Delete Account"
That's it.  If you delete accounts per the above instructions then there is simply no way for your Gmail to continue to come in to Apple Mail on Mavericks or iOS.  The only way that could happen is if you have set up your Gmail account to forward mail to your iCloud account.
    I hope this helps.

  • Deleting GMAIL account that is tied to my iTunes/Apple ID

So I want to NOT have a GMAIL account and instead only use the Apple iCloud @me account.
I know I can't migrate or merge the two and I will lose all my purchases if I use a fresh @me account WHICH IS FINE, BUT if I delete my GMAIL could I keep my iTunes purchases in tact and update apps on my iPhone even though my GMAIL has been deleted? For email/contacts/calenders i prefer to use the iCloud account.
    Thanks!

The gmail account (Apple ID) needs to stay active if you want to update, re-download... anything purchased with that account. You can change that email to another primary email but not the @me account. The @me account is a totally separate account. If you need to update your password, payment info, billing info and your gmail (google) account is defunct, you'll be like others in this forum who are stuck if the account becomes disabled for any reason. Hope this helps.

  • I'm unable to save preferences for mailbox behaviors for Gmail accounts in Mavericks mail

when I uncheck the checkboxes beside Drafts, Sent and Junk and save the changes for my Gmail account they end up checked again. Why is this and how can I make it accept the changes?

I think it's trying to open it in a gMail eMail & is losing your gMail password that it needs log into gMail, but not 100% positive.
Have you tried Right clicking or Control+click on the eMail link & choose Copy? Works on some, not others.

  • I cannot delete gmail messages using Maverick

Using Maverick OSX I delete messages from Mail 7.3 only to have them reappear in my Inbox after a short time. They do not go into the trash folder. Must I open an email in order to delete it?

If you are using the native Apple email app you should be able to swipe to the left and delete. If you can't then remove and reinstall the email account. If that does work
    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

  • Cannot permanently delete mails from trash in gmail account

When emails are deleted using default Mac OS X Mavericks mail.app, they move to the trash folder as expected and when I delete them from the trash folder, they dissapear as supposed. Unfortunatelly, after logging in to the gmail web-based version, the emails are still visible in trash folder. They are sort of hidden, because they are visible only in web-based version, not in any smtp client. Interesting is, that iPhone mail app deletes the mails correctly. This issue was tested on 3 computers (iMac 27" i5 late 2010, Macbook Pro Retina 15" i7 early 2013, Macbook Pro Retina 13" i5 late 2013), 3 user accounts, and 3 gmail accounts. Do you have any suggestions?

Okay, that solved it, except that I had to input rm -rf ~/.Trash/*
and NOT "Trashes." It accepted your version of the command, but it didn't do anything discernible. I noticed that entering Trashe and trying to press tab to autocomplete didn't work, suggesting that maybe Trashes doesn't exist. However, trying to autocomplete with fewer letters typed indicated to me that Trash DOES exist, and so I went ahead with that and it worked.

  • After upgrading to Mavericks my Gmail account is slow to sync with my iPhone

I'm able to read my GMail message on my iPhone way before I see them on my Mac running the Mail app. It takes a long time sometimes never, for the messages to show up. I updated to the latest version of Mavericks that was suppose to fix this but it didn't help. I'm using the IMAP settings for Gmail.

I tried deleting the gmail account from the Internet Accounts section in System Preferences and recreated it. That worked! The missing email showed up and I'm in sync with my iPhone again.

  • Cannot get Apple Mail to work on Mavericks - Synching not working intermittently with Gmail account

Like many others, I am having issues with Apple Mail on Mavericks.  I have a gmail account and an account that uses IMAP on godaddy domain.  When I do things on my Macbook, they are more or less OK although sometimes there is a delay when deleting mail and having it synch up with my other devices.  However, if I go to my iphone and go thru my mail and then go to my macbook in the evening, i am finding that all of my mail is showing up like I never looked at it before.  All mail is showing up unread, deleted e-mails are in my inbox, etc.  I installed the mavericks update for mail last week, and still things are not working.  I really need some help in resolving this issue.  I expect this kind of stuff from Windows OS upgrades...not Apple

I still cannot get an Unread Mail count in the Dock even after installing the the Nov. 7 Mavericks update. I deleted my Gmail account from my Mac, so I know that's not a problem. I checked the Mail preferences, and thay is configured correctly. Any suggestions?

Point noted re multiples posts [ there were loads of  typos in previous]   . Your previous reply  may indeed be one way of  solving my problem. Thanks .
Nevetheless  why does Apple prodcue "updated " software which isnt properly comptiable or tested;  with the result that it   now  doesnt work well with Gmail when the prevoius version worked fine. You would think an update  would at least work with Gmail as  well as the prevsoius version did.  G mail is  very widely used, so they, Apple,  and probably  Google too are  shooting themselves in the foot if they can't make the software compitable,

  • How can I restore my data from iCal? I didn't make any backup, but I use  time machine with an external HD. I deleted iCal when I deleted my gmail account. I have tried to restore, but I can only restore the iCal software and not the data.

How can I restore my data from iCal? I didn't make any backup, but I use  time machine with an external HD. I deleted iCal when I deleted my gmail account. I have tried to restore, but I can only restore the iCal software and not the data.

    So what is your question?
If you forgot your encryption password:
Warning: Make sure it's a password you will remember or write it down for safekeeping. If you encrypt an iPhone backup in iTunes and forget your password, you can't restore from backup and your data will be unrecoverable.
If you can't remember the password and want to start again, you must perform a full software restore and chooseset up as a new device when iTunes prompts you to select the backup from which to restore.

  • Unable to delete an email from a Gmail account in Mail

I am unable to delete an email from my Gmail (IMAP) account within Mail on my MacBook. I get an error message that says there are no matches with the email. It does not show in Mail on my iMac or on my Gmail account online. I have rebuilt the mailbox, but don't know any other steps to try to fix this problem.
Does anyone know how to delete this email?
    Thanks -

Thanks for the suggestions. I did not find the message on my Gmail Internet account. I went into Mail Preferences, and used the Advanced tab under my Gmail account to uncheck "Enable this account". The account folders disappeared. When I restarted Mail and enabled Gmail again, the email was initially gone, but a few minutes later, reappeared. I don't know anything else left to do except delete the account and recreate it If you think of anything else, please let me know.
    Thanks -

        Hi there T&P63385!
Look no further! I have the answer for you! You can add a new email account to your android device by following these steps: http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=31401
Now I do want to let you know that your phone has a "main" gmail account. If this "main" gmail account was the one you deleted it may be best that you reset your phone and activate it to your new gmail address.
The reason I recommend doing this is all of your purchased application information is also tied to your gmail.
Ensure your personal information is backed up (contacts, pictures, etc) and follow these steps to Hard Reset your phone:http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=31308
Let me know if you have any other questions!
