Truncated and Shrunk Barcodes in Crystal 8.5?

Post Author: Reinhard Maass
CA Forum: General
I am still working with Crystal 8.5, but lately I have run into a series of weird incidents that made me wonder whether this version has a principal problem when it comes to printing barcodes. Maybe someone of you can confirm my suspicion... or knows about a remedy without having to upgrade.We are printing interleaved 2/5 barcodes on labels with a Zebra XiIII Plus thermotransfer printer.On average, 9,999 of 10,000 labels come out fine. But, on one label the barcode is both truncated and shrunk. What do I mean by this? Say the barcode consists of 25 individual bars. Then, for example only the 13 leftmost bars are printed (truncation), and they are also printed at half height (shrinking). Worst, the printer stops after such a 'bad' label and sometimes even needs to be reset hardware-wise!The problem happens very rarely, but still on a quite regular base. VERY annoying since the complete printout of approx. 1,000 labels stops.
I have tried almost everything, including the famous Seagull printer driver for our Zebra printer, but nothing worked. The only suspicion I have is that it might be related to using the 8.5 runtime for printing those labels:Whenever I call up the one 'bad' label from the stand-alone version of the report the label will come out all right (which does not prove too much, though, since this is one label only and it seems to be a rather random problem).However, when I repeat printing all the labels from the report called up by the runtime this time, it gets stuck at the same label again. So it's not fully random. Still, there is not any 'pattern' to all this.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Is this a known problem in 8.5? Is there a known fix?Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks a million!

Hi
It may be possible that the report has got some issues within itself. Try checking as below:
1. The section on which you have the OLE object, insert a subsection below and insert the OLE there.
2. See if that too shrinks.
If that too shrinks, you can also check the size of the image, page set up of crystal, try a landscape.

  • Windows 7 64-bits Crystal report and Azalea (barcode)

    Hello,
    We use Crystal Report XI and Azalea (barcode) to print barcode from our Windows application for many years.
    Now we want to use Windows 7 64-bits. The barcode printing desn't work. Azalea answers they don't have any 64 bits library.
    What is the Crystal Report solution for printing barcode with Windows 7 64-bits ?
    Best regards.

    If Azalea doesn't have a 64 bit library your only option is to stay 32 bit.
    Crystal Reports is a 32 bit application so 64 bit is not an issue. Everything must be in 32 bit version to work with CR. And the only versions of CR supported on Windows 7 is CR XI R2 with Service Pack 6 and CR 2008 with Service Pack 2. No other versions will be test nor supported on Windows 7, best effort only.
    Thank you

  • Gs1 ean128 barcode from crystal report 2011

    Hello
    I am trying to produce a gs1 ean128 barcode from crystal report 2011 using 'Change to barcode' and choosing 'Code128 UCC/EAN-128'
    If the barcode is made up of 2 different pieces of information, and the first one has a variable length ( for instance (20)25620(400)125411258 ) I have to put a separator character ( FNC1 ) before the second application identfiers, but I don't find any documentation about what character is to be used.
    Moreover, it seems that the only available choice for GS1
    ('Code128 UCC/EAN-128') supply a CodeSet C barcode, and this can be used with even length strings only. If my string may have a odd length I have to use A or B Code , but I don't find other available function

    hi Marco, if you're using azalea barcode fonts,  azalea has custom functions which can be used in conjunction with the fonts. you would put your data into a formula which uses the custom function and base the "change to barcode" on that formula. the link above will take you to their custom functions and downloads for various fonts. if you're using another provide, please consult their faq.

  • Solutions for creating and printing barcode for MII application

    Hi all,
    We need some help on solution about barcode creating and printing for MII applications. Would be greatly appreciated for any suggestions about the best option.
    Our client is running MII 12.x. They also use Crystal Report. They don't have a lot of SAP resources and hence don't want to create Barcode using SAP smart forms. The new application requires reports to be printed out with barcode attached to it. The following are some options that we have identified:
    1. Using Bartender software. MII will provide a XML file and feed to the software. The software can print out the content with the label.
    2. Create a customized action block to create and store barcode on the server. Using a HTML page to display all the content with the jpeg/png version of the barcode. Print out through IE.
    Any other options will be good too. Thanks in advanced for your responses.
    Best regards,
    UMeng

    Thanks for the suggestion.
    One concern I have is this package is developed for v12.0. According to SAP, these action blocks will work in 12.1 but not in 12.2. I've tried to install it on 12.2. The configuration dialog are not working properly.
    Have anybody succefully implemented this package on 12.2?
    Best regards,

    Hi All,
    Can any one pls tell me,
    what is the main difference between Truncate and Delete.
    Thanks in advance ,
    Sanjeev.

    Deletes perform normal DML,it take locks on rows, they generate redo and they require segments in the UNDO tablespace.
    If a mistake is made a rollback can be issued to restore the records prior to a commit.
    Truncates are DDL. A truncate moves the High Water Mark of the table back to zero so all extents bar the initial are de-allocated from the table

    Hi.
    Do the Standard and Professional editions of Crystal reports install all the com dlls?
    thanks

    Hi,
    The crystal reports trainign for SAP Business One is designed for partners and customers and provided for free to them.
    It's not available to non-customers. You will need to have a login to the partner or customer portal to use it.
    Alternatively you can use the regular Crystal Reports training resources or available books to get yourself skilled for Crystal Reports. Being able to work with Crystal Reports is 90% of the work where as the SAP Business One specific's are in the area of ....
    - Release 8.8: the datasource connections; working with variables in the report; intergration and distribution of reports
    - Release 2007: linking the reports into the SAP Business One menu and making them secured available to the end users.

  • Have lines appearing on my screen and coloured barcodes running across top, what is the cause

    Thin lines have appeared running down the length of my screen and colloured barcode type short lines running across the top of my screen. Has anyone suffered this before and knows what the cause is and maybe the remedy?

    It could be a hardware problem - bad GPU. Best to take it into your local Apple Store and have them run diagnostics on it... what model MBP do you have (year & screen size)?

  • Are Truncate and Trunc SQL ISO ANSI compliance ?

    Somebody has idea of
    which of the statements TRUNCATE and TRUNC are SQL ISO ANSI compliance ?
    is Truncate a function or a statement ?
    Thanks
    Nelson

    perhaps this answer has the potential to add some confusing, but maybe it shows a little problem with ANSI compliance:
    For Oracle a TRUNCATE TABLE is a DDL operation that includes an implicit commit preventing a rollback:
    -- Oracle 11.2.0.1
    SQL> create table t(a number);
    Tabelle wurde erstellt.
    SQL> insert into t(a) values(1);
    1 Zeile wurde erstellt.
    SQL> commit;
    Transaktion mit COMMIT abgeschlossen.
    SQL> truncate table t;
    Tabelle mit TRUNCATE geleert.
    SQL> rollback;
    Transaktion mit ROLLBACK rückgängig gemacht.
    SQL> select * from t;
    Es wurden keine Zeilen ausgewählt
    Sorry about the german sqlplus feedback - but I think the result is clear: the table is empty after the truncate and the data is gone.
    But for MS SQL Server a TRUNCATE can be rolled back:
    -- SQL Server 2008
    drop table t;
    create table t(a int);
    insert into t(a) values(1);
    begin transaction
    truncate table t;
    rollback;
    select * from t;
      a
      1
    Microsoft also defines TRUNCATE as DDL - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff848799.aspx - but the behavior is quite different. So ANSI compliance does not mean that much (I have absolutly no idea which of the two solutions is more ANSI compliant in this case).

  • System barcode and Printer barcode

    Hi All,
    I have to create a barcode in SAP SCRIPT  can any one please tell what is the difference between system barcode and printer barcode.
    is it possible to create a custom barcode?
    Appreciate your answers.
    Tnx,
    Joe

    Printer Bar Codes
    u201CPrinter bar codesu201D are bar codes that are specific to a specific printer. These bar codes
    actually have the commands and parameters hard coded for each separate bar code
    symbology and derivative. This is known as SAPu2019s u201Cold bar code technology.u201D You will
    also need to create new u201Cprinter bar codesu201D if you wish to change any parameters such as
    ratio, narrow bar width, or height. You should try and avoid this u201Cold technologyu201D if
    possible.
    System Bar Codes
    u201CSystem bar codesu201D can either use the u201Cold barcode technology u201Cand use a specific
    u201Cprinter bar codeu201D based on the device type selected, or alternatively use the u201Cnew bar
    code technology.u201D We recommend that you use u201Cnew technologyu201D if possible as this has
    many advantages:
    u2022 Does not require the creation of u201Cprinter bar codesu201D for every single possible
    device type being used
    u2022 Does not require knowledge of the printeru2019s command language.
    u2022 You can preview the bar code (SAP NetWeaver 04 onwards)
    u2022 This can also be rendered on non-Zebra printers (although as a graphic)

  • 32bit and 64bit Apps using Crystal 2010sp1 with a recordset

    Hi
    I'm using Crystal 2010sp1 with VS2010. I have some code that I did not write, which obtains a recordset and passes that to the ReportDocument. It then goes on to .Export() the report.
    When my app is compiling as 32bit the .DataSourceConnections on the ReportDocument contains 1 item with the following properties:
    DataBaseName=""
    DBConnHandler=0
    IntegratedSecurity=False
    LogonProperties = { "ADO.Net DataSet Object", "0,4AFECC" }  { "ADO.Net DataSet Object", "0,4AFECC" }
    { "Internal Connection ID", "2e3b2f7f-0c31-472a-9773-f301a7ba9a3e" }  { "Internal Connection ID", "2e3b2f7f-0c31-472a-9773-f301a7ba9a3e" }
    Password = ""
    ServerName = "NewDataSet"
    Type = CRQA
    UserID = Nothing
    And it exports perfectly!!
    When compiled as "Any CPU" and running on a 64bit machine, the properties are:
    DataBaseName=""
    DBConnHandler=0
    IntegratedSecurity=False
    LogonProperties = { "Field Definition File", "BL_Extras.ttx" } { "Field Definition File", "BL_Extras.ttx" }
    Password = ""
    ServerName = "D:\EntaV4\ENTAReports\rpt\BL_Extras.ttx"
    Type = CRQA
    UserID = Nothing
    And the export fails with the exception:
    "Failed to load database information. Error in File BL_Extras {9D634275-70C4-42E8-B7EE-C2A69C0CDD2B}.rpt: Failed to load database information."
    Why under 64bit is Crystal setting different connection details? And where is it getting the path for the ttx file in the ServerName property, my app and report are on my C drive in a totally different location. That folder on D had never existed on my machine.
    I do happne to have the ttx file for this report, but putting it next to the rpt or in the above path makes no difference. I don't have the ttx for other reports though anyway and running as 32bit it works even if I delete the ttx though.
    I have searched the error and found several pre-SP1 and non-recordset scenarios. I also read a little about create XML files for the reports but that is going to be too much work as there are hundreds of reports. It's not a lack of a 64bit ADO driver is it?
    I thought i'd ask here for other solutions before I step back in time 10 years and make this app 32bit only.
    I'm pretty sure this all worked on 2008 with CR2008.....

    I exported the data as XML from my datatable like you said. I did it both running as x64 and x86, the output was the same.
    I thought i'd eliminate any bad code that might be in my main app by writing a little test app that loads that xml and drops it in a viewer control. I started a new project in VS, added a form with the Crystal Report viewer. I then wrote code to load the rpt file, and read the xml into a dataset, and then setdatasource on a report object to the first table of that dataset (which is what my main app is doing).
    Dim crReportDocument As New ReportDocument
    Dim filePath As String
    Dim ds As DataSet
    filePath = "c:\64crystal.xml"
    ds = New DataSet()
    ds.ReadXml(filePath)
    crReportDocument.Load("C:\inetpub\wwwroot\SchedulerManager\rpt\BL_Extras.rpt")
    crReportDocument.SetDataSource(ds.Tables(0))
    CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = crReportDocument
    Running it in x86 I am prompted for some parameters that the report required, and then the report renders in the viewer perfectly, no problems.
    Running this app in x64 prompted me for the parameters, and then I get a msgbox saying:
    Failed to load database information
    Error in File BL_Extras {CD6C5C52-744C-433E-9297-87ECC3834262}.rpt:
    Failed to load database information.
    So then going back to what you asked, I went to the viewer control and click 'choose a crystal report' I get a 'Bad forumula result' error. If I select 'Create a new Crystal Report' and then 'From and existing report' and select the rpt file i'm working with. It then shows the rpt file in the VS designer with all the fields and sections and looks fine, though returning to the viewer gives the 'Bad Formula result' again. Seem to get this on several reports so am assuming its just because there is no data yet.
    On this report now in my project I went to set datasource location and selected the XML it then shows NewDataSet with Table under it in the treeview. The update button is disabled if i select the table. If I select the dataset and click update it tells me:
    "Some tables could not be replaced, as no match was found in the new data source. Please specify the table required for any unmodifeid tables". The top pane of this window is showing the file details of the ttx that it thinks is located on the D drive.
    If I go to database expert and move the table over it then prompts me to find the ttx file. It doesn't let me skip this so I give in and tell it where it is. I then get the link tab. It shows the ttx with 23 fields and my xml table with 27 fields. It has 11 fields linked automatically,
    A comparrison of the ttx and XML in notepad shows the following, the bold fields are the ones that did not auto link.
    DateOption, ttx:Number, xml:unsignedByte
    StartDate, ttx:dateTime, xml:dateTime
    EndDate, ttx:dateTime, xml:dateTime
    VenueGroups, ttx:Memo, xml:string
    Profiles, ttx:Memo, xml:string
    Users, ttx:Memo, xml:string
    Extras, ttx:Memo, xml:string
    RepGrouping: ttx:Number, xml:unsignedByte
    IncludeDiscount, ttx:Number, xml:unsignedByte
    VgrDescription, ttx:String(50), xml:string
    CurSymbol, ttx:String(3), xml:string
    CurName, ttx:String(30), xml:string
    CurScaleFactor, ttx:Number, xml:short
    ProDescription, String(50), xml:string
    UseName, String(30), xml:string
    TransactionDate, ttx:Datetime, xml:dateTime
    StxCode, ttx:Number, xml:int
    StxDescription, ttx:String(100), xml:string
    MrwID, ttx:String(3), xml:string
    MrwDescription, ttx:String(100), xml:string
    Sales, ttx:Number, xml:int
    Returns, ttx:Number, xml:int
    Reserved, ttx:Number, xml:int
    GrossSalesAmount, ttx:Currency, xml:decimal
    GrossReservedAmount, ttx:Currency, xml:decimal
    SalesVAT, ttx:Currency, xml:decimal
    ReservedVAT, ttx:Currency, xml:decimal
    Right clicking on all of these bold items on the table side (in the link tab) says that those bold fields are type Number. So not sure why the first 8 don't link as they are looking for Number. As for the last 4, in SQL these fields are type money, once read by vb.net into a datatable they are of type decimal. Not sure what crystal is expecting here.
    I can manually link the 8, but it tells me for the 4 currency fields that the "data types are not compatibile"
    I still don't get why if running as 32bit and passing the datatable from xml or sql to the rpt, even without the ttx, works without issue.
    I think for now that i'm going to have to simply compile my main app for 32bit, but would still like to understand what is going on here. Thanks for helping to look into this.
    Tony.
