Truncated BW Bookmarks

I am a BW Administrator for a large university.   We are currently running SAP NetWeaver BI 7.0 SP16.  We have many users who like to create and run bookmarks for BW reports.  Recently a problem surfaced in that, on some specific computers, any URL longer than 80 characters is truncated when pasted into the Web Address input box in the Favorites section of the BW Easy Access menu.  When the truncated bookmark is run it gets an error message because the URL address is incomplete.  The problem seems to be with how the copy/paste functions are interacting with the input field in the Easy Access menu.   Has anyone else seen this behavior?  I have searched the Forum and SAP notes for information on correcting this issue but have not found anything pertinent.  This issue is starting to affect more and more end users, especially those with new computers.  Most end users use Windows XP, SP2 and have the latest McAfee virus scan engine installed.  New computers are delivered with Vista.  This is very puzzling because the issue is limited to specific computers.  Any assistance with solving this issue is greatly appreciated.

Hi all,
we actually came up with a very nice solution. It was build in BSP (I would have preferred webdynpro, but i wasn't the one who ended up building it).
The BSP reads the table RSWZBOOKMARK which we extended with an extra fields to store a description. Everytime a user clicks on the bookmark button a javascript is called that opens the BSP page. While this page is loading, the bookmark is stored in the table and is immediatly displayed in the BSP. the extra fiels allows us to add a description to the bookmark. So the BSP has an entry page and a display page, and it's very easy to program.
Using the style sheets of the portal is fits the corportate look and feel.
Cheers
Marcel

  • FF sometimes truncates my bookmarks or reloading, requiring me to restore an older profile and lose recent bookmarks; what to do?

This is new with my recently refurbished HP tablet with Win7. I moved the profile from my prior computer. Last items in bookmark listing don't appear, as if there was a size limitation.
Just completed a registry repair of 723 errors with RegZotta. Bringing FF up was truncated at same place as yesterday. Restore from yesterday brought up the whole BBlist, but now the items I bookmarked this morning are missing. I can't tolerate this for long.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • Bookmarks Truncating in Acrobat

I am converting from XML to PDF and lengthy bookmarks always seem to get truncated. How can I get Acrobat to stop truncating these bookmarks?
    Frank

The previous posters all seem very expert in Acrobat, so I expect they would not be confused between the bookmark name stored in the PDF and the text that is actually displayed. Nevertheless I describe that issue for the benefit of non-experts reading this article.
The text that is displayed in the bookmarks panel can vary depending upon the size of the text ('font'), and the width of the panel.  For example, in one document I have a top-level bookmark "R1. CONDITIONS AFFECTING THE NATURE OF THE SLUDGE MATERIAL FORMED".  In the smallest font, this displays perfectly with the default/typical panel width in Acrobat 9.1.0.  But with the medium-size font I see only "R1. CONDITIONS AFFECTING", and with the large font I might see only "R1. CONDITIONS".  However, the full text can be viewed by increasing the width of the bookmarks panel — or by clicking the bookmark (as if) to rename it.

  • Bookmark text in PDF being truncated at 40 characters

I created styles (H1-H5) in my Word document.  When I convert the Word document to PDF and generate a Bookmark structure, the Bookmark text in the PDF truncates my long headings at 40 characters.  Any advise on how to stop the truncation of the text?

  • I am unable to delete zombie bookmarks (no link) in Normal or Safe Mode Firefox 3.6.13 Mac 10.4.11, bookmarks disappear at random

Firefox 3.6.13 (Mac Mini, OS 10.4.11) has repeatedly been losing my bookmarks in random fashion. For example, all bookmarks in a single folder have disappeared. Randomly, my bookmarks toolbar is truncated to just 6 items, although all toolbar bookmarks remain visible in the Library. The Library will randomly lose the http location for two to four bookmarks and then those "zombie" bookmarks cannot be accessed, deleted, moved, or edited. I've tried Safe Mode, same problem. I've disabled all add-ons in Normal Mode, same problem. I've reverted to bookmark backups and everything is okay for a short time (minutes sometimes, hours others), then the problems reappear on different bookmarks. Totally frustrating and maddening.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • When adding bookmarks and trying to changing its name, Firefox won't allow using the mouse; Firefox will only allow using the arrow keys (MAC OS 10.5, Firefox 3.6.8)

When adding a bookmark sometimes the web page name is too long. I used to be able to use my mouse, highlight the letters/words that I don't want, then use delete to truncate the desired bookmark name. Since the latest update/upgrade, Firefox won't let me use the mouse to click anywhere in the popup box. I can only use the arrow keys and the delete key.
Nothing other than updates (using Mac Software Update and Firefox Update) has been done to this computer (it's a 2002 Power Mac G4-Dual 1.25GHz).

  • Reader bookmarks does not show chapter names on iPad 3

    HI,
When I open a PDF ebook in Adobe reader on iPad 3 and try to see the table of contents by clicking the bookmarks icon in the bottom right. It only shows "chapter1", "chapter2" etc and not the chapter titles. When I open the same PDF on my iphone 4S with Adobe reader, it displays "Chapter1 - chapter title". This is very useful for navigation. Can some one from Adobe please fix this bug for iPad 3. I use iOS 7.1.2 and using the latest version of Adobe reader on iPad 3.

I opened one of my PDF documents with bookmarks in the latest version of Adobe Reader for iOS version 11.3.2.

Each bookmark title may be truncated (with '...') differently (or not truncated at all) depending on your iOS device's orientation and screen resolution.  But some text (e.g. " - chapter title") should not be completely hidden.
Would you send your PDF document (that exhibits the problem) to [email protected] as an email attachment?  Please include the link to this forum post (https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1549062) in your email message for reference.
We will take a look at your PDF document and determine the cause of the problem.  Thank you.

  • What is the bookmark button for? It keeps disappearing.

The bookmark button shows at 'customize' time but then just goes away. What is it for?

That Bookmark button appears when the Menu Bar is hidden and the Bookmarks word menu item won't appear. Showing the Menu Bar is the default for WinXP; with Vista & Win7 the Menu Bar is hidden by default.
That particular Bookmarks button opens a slightly truncated view of what the Bookmarks menu item on the Menu Bar shows. There's another similar Bookmarks button that is sitting in the Customize Palette which opens the Bookmarks Sidebar.
If you want to see the Bookmarks button that "disappears" when you close Customize, open View > Toolbars and click on Menu Bar so the check-mark is gone and Menu Bar will be hidden, replaced by the orange Firefox button.

  • How to decrease width of the dropdown bookmark panel (FF 11)?

How to decrease width of the dropdown bookmark panel (FF 11)?
This panel is too wide and covers too much space in underlying windows. The book marks text should not be truncated but some way needs to be found to allow the entire text of any line to be viewed when the cursor lands on it. Much of the information in "HELP" related to this question turns out to be very very old (essentially meaningless in 2012).

My bookmarks truncate, but only after many, many characters. Then you can view the full title, as well as the URL, in the mouseover tooltip.
To narrow the width of the bookmark menus:
    (1) There might be an existing add-on targeted to this; I didn't search.
    (2) You could create a custom style rule. One way to do this is to use the Stylish extension and add the following userstyle (create a blank rule first):
    <br>@namespace url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul);
    #bookmarksMenu menupopup {max-width:15em;}
That works in my test, but you can tweak that maximum width to suit your needs. (1 "em" is about 16 pixels). Stylish can be installed from here: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/stylish/ Stylish :: Add-ons for Firefox].
    (3) You could create a custom style rule in the file userChrome.css, which you can add to your personal Firefox profile. I didn't test it.

  • The window displaying bookmarks is too large (suddenly happened with the new version). I can't figure out how to make the display smaller. Zooming out does not work on the bookmark menu display.

    I have version 4, just downloaded, and a Mac w. OS 10.6. 7.
The bookmarks display (when I pull down "bookmarks") is much too wide. I can't figure out how to reduce the display size. The window is not persistent so I can't even get you a screen shot.
    Thanks, Sara

It seems there was a change in Firefox 4 where the width of the drop-down is now determined by the length the longest bookmark name in the folder being displayed. Previous versions of Firefox would shorten a long name like that and add an ellipsis to signify the name was truncated.
Sorry, I don't know how to change that other than to advise you to edit the name of that long bookmark name and make it less verbose. Just scroll down the list of bookmarks in that wide folder until you see the culprit, then right-click that bookmark and open Properties & edit the Name line at the top of that dialog.

  • Bookmarks from structure - limit on length of text?

I am trying to create bookmarks from structure when converting a WORD 2007 document to pdf.  The WORD doc contains headings in Heading 1 format.  The first part of this heading appears OK in the bookmark but it is truncated  i.e. only the first few dozen characters of the heading appear in the bookmark.  Is there any way of increasing the number of characters that appear in the bookmark?
I am using WORD 2007 Adobe 9 Pro extended on  Windows XP

What wizard created items with even-longer names than were already on your page? FYI, items with names longer than 30 characters cannot be used as bind variables but should work otherwise. It's possible that we're binding using those names using one of these new-fangled constructs (like form pagination) and that the exception is being masked. In any case the Builder could be more helpful in this regard.

  • Numbered bookmarks

In Acrobat Pro version 8 I could generate a PDF from a Word (2007) document that contained numbered headings such that the PDF bookmarks were created with the same numbering system and hierarchy. I find that in Acrobat 9 Pro I cannot generate the numbered headings. I have tried every permutation of the provided Preferences options without success. The best I can get is unnumbered headings.
I can turn off the automatic bookmark creation and use the 'New Bookmarks from Structure' option once I have created the PDF and while this gets me numbered bookmarks the headings are truncated and there is no indentation. I have to manually drag 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc. under 1 to create an expandable/collapsible list. This is tedious and time consuming in large documents with lots of chapters and headings.
It worked so well in the previous version that I'm considering going back. What am I missing? It seems such a basic feature that previously worked really well.
    Brett

I am using the PDFMaker addin in Word 2007 from the Adobe toolbar. I have tried changing the Adobe PDF Preferences options (from within Word) and can get numbered headings to appear in the bookmarks panel, but they have no hierarchy. I still have to manually move level 2 headings beneath level 1 and level 3 headings beneath level 2, etc.
I can get the expected hierarchy displayed as per the heading levels in Word, but without any heading numbering.
I have checked for updates but I am already on version 9.1 an no further updates existed.
    This worked perfectly in 8.1.

  • Set Bookmark Open Options to Open File with Wild Cards

Hi there Guys. I need help with something. I work on manuals with various table of contents that contain bookmarks and a lot of them are basically cookie cutter.
Here is what I am wondering:
The bookmarks are in numerical order and need to link to an individual PDF
    file in the same folder:
    Example:
Bookmark 1: "1. Office Hour Files for ABC company dated 10/01/07." needs to link to a file called "Office Hour Files for ABC company dated 10/01/07.PDF".
Bookmark 2: "1. Healthcare Benefits for ABC company dated 09/30/07."
needs to link to a file called "1. Healthcare Benefits for ABC company
    dated 09/30/07.PDF".
    ETC.
Also, the file names -- not the bookmark names -- need to be shortened to 75 characters or less most of the time due to cd burning software. So soemtimes (or most of the time) the file name is much shorter than the original bookmark name.
Is there code that I can use to batch process the Table of
Contents file to find bookmark in TOC file that starts with "1. [bookmark name]" and open file the corresponding file in the same folder that starts with "1. [truncated bookmark name].PDF"
    then
with "2. [full bookmark name]" and open file that starts with "2.
    [truncated bookmark name].PDF"
    and so on maybe through
with "200. [full bookmark name]" and open file that starts with "200.
    [truncated bookmark name].PDF"
THANKS SO MUCH... ANY HELP AT ALL WILL BE AWESOME. Also, let me know how
much it would cost if you know someone who could write the code for me.
PS: I can use ARTS-PDF software for batchprocessing. I use Acrobat 5.0.
I really have no reason to upgrade for my purposes, but will if needed. I
use a lot of keystroke features in 5.0 that are easier to use than in the
    later versions.
    later!!
    THANKS AGAIN!!!!! BE WELL
    KEN

    Hi Dylan,
I have been searching along our forum, and found a similar question for using wildcards in selecting files. An active user (unclebump) replied on this request with a VI, with which you can select a folder on your computer which is scanned for certain files. I've adjusted this VI for selecting the CALDB_* files. Enclosed you will find this file (zipped) including my test folder.
Maybe this will be helpfull for your application.
    Best regards,

While synchronizing with Outlook, the memos that are a bit long (big number of characters) are being truncated in the Notes of outlook. Same is happening to the Address, while i have one address with a long text in the "Note" section. This note section is truncated in the corresponding Outlook contact. Finally, the birthday of addresses is not showing in Outlook contacts. I am using Palm Desktop 6.2.2; Hotsync Manager 7.0.2; Conduit Sync with ourlook for Outlook 2007; Outlook 2007.

The error/issue is not with Acrobat.  As you save the Word file as a PDF open the 'options' box and check the box 'Create bookmarks using headings'; all heading text should be displayed in the bookmark without truncation.
