Truncated movies when converting to WMV with QTPro

Any idea why any movie that I export to WMV from QT Pro or iMovie only exports a couple minutes of it and then ends?
No problem converting to .mov - movie converts full length.

Any idea why any movie that I export to WMV from QT Pro or iMovie only exports a couple minutes of it and then ends?
This usually indicates you are using the free Flip4Mac playback only codec (i.e., export demo only) and have not purchased the full export codec. QT cannot convert to/from WMV without the proper proprietary import/export codecs which must be purchased separately from the third-party vendor.

It make me think that I pointed the true problem : export code unaware of epub 3 specs.
Given the date of delivery of the epub exporter and the date of delivery of epub 3 specs, it's not really surprising.

  • I have found that iMovie stalls when converting a wmv file

and when it does work, it takes way to long to complete the 2step process.
Is there a solution to my problem?
    Thanks,

    Hi
iMovie usually can not use .wmv files.
.wmv - is no Video-Codec - but a container and can hold a variety of codecs - most of them in need to be converted to a Codec iMovie can use.
If it opens in QuickTime-player, then open Inspector [cmd+I] and read
    - Video formatted as (Codec) : nnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
    - Frames per second : yyyyyyy
    What does it read ?

  • .mov files converting to .wmv - only converting 30 secs.

I have purchased quicktime pro 7 and am trying to convert .mov files to .wmv files but it is only converting 30 seconds of the video?
Surely in purchasing Quicktime Pro 7 I have bought the  rights to this?
    Any help?
    Please and thank you

I have purchased quicktime pro 7 and am trying to convert .mov files to .wmv files but it is only converting 30 seconds of the video?
Surely in purchasing Quicktime Pro 7 I have bought the  rights to this?
    1) Wrong. Keying QT 7 for "Pro" use only unlocks the editing and conversion options built into the QT 7 Player app. It does not add any new codec components to your system configuration. MWV is a codec developed and owned by Microsoft and you can only purchase the right to use this product from Microsoft or its authorized Mac product distributor Flip4Mac (Telestream).
    2) If you wish to purchase use of one of the advanced export codec products and do not already have the free WMV Flip4Mac software installed, you can either
    a) Download and install the free base software from either the Microsoft or Flip4Mac website and upgrade to one of the advanced codec packages in the Preference Panel, or
    b) Purchase and install one of the advanced codec packages directly from the Flip4Mac website.

  • No audio channels (only video) when converting/exporting media formats

    Hi,
Last year i bought a license for quicktime 7 but i still have problems when converting.
Als with the new iTunes7 the problem still relies.
When i am converting a mpeg file to the m4v in iTunes the problem is the same.
It doens't matter which media format i get, but after the conversion is done... there are no audio channels!
When u look at the movie info option in the quicktime menu, you can see an video channel, but no audio. the orginal files do get video and audio channels...
about 6 months ago i contacted apple support for this, but the problem still relies..
Does anybody know a fix or maybe Apple can investigate this important bug!! In the past i have used Videora iPod coverter that does the job correct and muchhh faster, but i want quicktime to do that!!!

Quicktime has never exported the sound from muxed mpeg-1 or -2 files: QT Mpeg Limitations
You can run a separate demuxer to get the audio stream out or just use this freeware that exports both video and audio from mpegs to other formats: Mpeg StreamClip

  • Embedded objects when converting a word document

    Hello ng,
a word document contains other documents as embedded objects shown as a symbol. When converting this document with Acrobat Standard or Professional the symbols are converted as non functional picture. So the embeddes document can't be opened.
So here's my question: Is it possible to convert embedded objects shown as symbol to functional embedded object within PDF?
    Example is shown below.
    Many thanks!
    Susanne

It cannot be done. For all intents remember that creating the pdf is akin to printing the document out. If you were to print document to your printer, you would not expect to be able to click on the paper to launch the object. Now it is true that one can have things like hyperlinks preserved, but specialized coding was created for this functionality and is not available in all applications nor on all platforms. However, your wish is a reasonable feature request. I suggest you might ask here:

  • Compensating for tabs and leader dots when converting to HTML

A FrameMaker document contains a series of "tables" which are actually very long lists. They have the appearance of a TOC: a text phrase, a long line of leader dots, a tab, and a numeral at the end of the dots.
Since the tabs and leader dots vanish when converting to HTML, what might I do to either reconstruct the missing dots or re-create the look of a table for these lists?
    Thanks,
    Karen

    Hello Karen,
There is no way to automatically replace the tabs or leaders. During the conversion all of the information is completely stripped away, leaving no trace of it in the html code.  In my documents I typically set them up like this:
    In FM
    Test Switch[colon][space] …………………..OFF
    Test Switch: …………………..OFF
    When converted to html
    Test Switch: OFF
There is another, but more difficult way to keep your tabs and leaders somewhat intact, by the use of tables. If you put the data in a table you can keep the information separated by columns and rows. Also you must manual put periods or dashed instead having FM do it. When this is converted to html the data will remain in the tables. By removing the borders of the tables in FM it will appear clean, however; once you convert it to html you’ll see the borders again. You can either leave it this way or control the table properties by a CSS.
I’m not sure how my examples will show on the Adobe Forum, but I put them in.
    In FM
    Test Switch
    OFF
    In FM without borders
    Test Switch
    OFF
    When converted to html
    Test Switch
    OFF
When converted to html with CSS
    Test Switch
    OFF
    I hope this helps

  • Green line on movies bottom when converted with H264/MPEG4 codecs-HELP PL!

    Hi all,
Every time I convert movies from any Quicktime-readable format to .mov format (including .mov to .mov), the resulting movie has a (horrendous) *green line* on the bottom.
This happen only when I use Quicktime Pro. No other application give me this bad result.
As only one of many examples you can see in this screenshot a movie (right) made using iShowU with "Apple none" codec, which means that is totally uncompressed.
To reduce the size I have used QT with H264 codec. The result is (always) that green line (left).
No matter if I change the movie size or crop it. After all when I export it to save, the green line will be there again.
Could somebody please help me with this issue?
    http://img.skitch.com/20080820-d4623ia122inbdbwex6c7cciyb.png
    *Thank you very much.*

    Thank you David.
    Did work!
I also read the post you suggested.
My original video was 426x175 and I changed it in the export properties to 426x 174 . One (1) pixel smaller, and voila!
Doing this and reading that post doesn't match with Apple's straight forward style.
Imagine if you have a stubborn movie because of its dimensions?
I felt like doing medieval engineering.
    Thanks a lot again, David.

  • How do you convert .mov to .mpeg or .wmv?! please help!!!

i made a video and put it up on YouTube.com, and tons of people have emailed me saying they want to download it. however, the only format i can put it in is .mov and .mp4 and windows computers can't play these formants.....at least i don't think they can. can they play .mov? i know for a fact they can't play .mp4......
so i was hoping someone knows about some type of converter so I can let my windows friends download it.....that way they don't have to go to youtube all the time just to see it.....if you do, it has to be a free download cuz i'm poor. lol.
    thanks again......
remember, i'm trying to convert .mp4 or .mov TO .wmv or .mpeg

    * the .mov container can be handled by any PC with a free download of Quicktime for Windows; but many PC users hesitate doing so, because on the Apple website it looks like you instali iTunes too... many PC don't like that...
    * .mp4 can be handled by any actual PC mediaplayer... again: PC users are used to import .wmv (or the very old .avi container/not supported by YouTube)
    * for exporting .wmv on a Mac, you need to buy a licence at www.flip4mac.com
    * mpeg... the MotionPictureExpertGroup published many codecs... mpeg1, mpeg2, mpeg4, h261, h264. .... but using iM as exporter, all these mpegs will be "hidden" in the QT container .mov... with QTpro you can strip-off the container, but I recommed the beginner to use one of the above mentioned options......

  • How can i convert a .wmv to .mov or .mpg?

I don't need to convert the file so I can view it.
I'm hosting this video on a website and I want to enable users the option to download the file in either .mov/.mpg4 format or .wmv format.
Does anybody know if there is a free converter out there?
Also, I have VLC for my .wmv's but it stopped working recently. Now when I try to play a .wmv in VLC the video doesn't work, but the sound does, and I get this error message:
"main: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `WMV3'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format."
    Thanks,
    Jacob

I find the free iSquint to be the easiest GUI for these projects...some people dump on it since the interface is so simple, but just use the Advanced Mode if you want to tinker.
    http://www.isquint.org/
Alternatively, if you have QTPro, you can download and install the Flip4Mac beta for intel components (posted in this forum) - that way, QT will play the WMV file natively and you can simply "save it" as a .mov. I've pretty much left VLC in the dust for even attempting to play WMV files after installing the F4M beta. It is, of course, still invaluable for a zillion other reasons.

When I import some quicktime movies into IMovie which I have download, the movie will import into IMovie but there will be no sound with the movie when I play it in IMovie. Can anyone help me...

Obviously your QT movies are, in fact, MPEG movies. You need 3rd party utilities to convert MPEG to DV with audio. Search the forum -- this is a mother of all FAQs here.

  • Problem Converting Keynote Quicktime to WMV with Flip4Mac

    HI All
I can see that perhaps one other person may have had this issue. I have a continuous presentation exported from Ketnote as a Quicktime Movie. This plays from end to end without a hitch.
I am using Flip4Mac to convert to WMV, something I have done on many occasions with other QT files without issue (not from Keynote)
The resulting file only exports to the first transition in the Keynote presentation.
I have made the quicktime continuous (so it does not stop at slide changes) I have tried un-checking the sprite track option.
Pretty much every combination but it still always only exports to the first transition.
Any clues ? What am I missing ?
    Thanks for your help

    Hi
yes it does however I have been messing around over the weekend and have got some of the way to solving this.
Sorry its a bit long and convoluted but here goes.
I extracted the video and audio tracks as suggested below and made a new flattened movie.
I then found a utility to remove all the chapter markers from Ecamm Network.
This removed every chapter (slide) marker.
I then re-saved and made a WMV from that file. It exported until the last transition and stopped !! ( I checked with the orig file)
So I then converted the end section to WMV and joined the 2 WMV files together in Quicktime Pro.
This then played happily from end to end.
BUT you cant then save that as a WMV ! Quicktime exports it again as a .mov
So I thought that .mov must work if I convert that to wmv but no, stops in the exact same place.
There is no sprite track no chapters but there must be some other metadata that is upsetting Flip4Mac
    Anyway closer than I was.
Cant import to FCP or use DV as despite setting the frame rate to 25 in Keynote it actually exports at 22 so any 'video' frame rates make the animation very jerky as you would expect.
thanks for you help though everyone
    Neil

  • Convert MKV to MP4 or WMV with PrE

I would like to convert a .MKV video file into a .WMV or .MP4, since the video cannot be read by standard hardware as it is.
I tried to open it with Premiere Elements, but it couldn't be read by PrE, so I cannot export as a different format. Is there any work around to this?

    DeverK
    Thanks for the follow up.
From the looks of it, you can convert to MKV (if you wanted that file extension) or MP4 with the free HandBrake.
I have used HandBrake (Windows) for conversion to H.264.mp4 with constant frame rate, when the counterpart with variable frame rate
would not work in Premiere Elements or when it imported but with audio out of sync.
It appears that with the choice of MP4 as the container format (file extension), the choice of video codec is described
    H.264 (x264)
    MPEG-4 (FF mpeg)
    MPEG-2 (FF mpeg)
whereas, with the choice of MKV as the container format (file extension), the choice of video codec is described
    H.264 (x264)
    MPEG-4 (FF mpeg)
    MPEG-2 (FF mpeg)
    VP3 (theora)
We will be watching for your progress with this when you have the time.
