Truncated or incomplete file

When I try to open a large (98MG) tiff file in PhotoShop, I get the following message: "This file may be damaged (the file may be truncated or incomplete)." When I continue, the image appears with a blue line through it. I am, however, able to view the file using Microsoft Office Document Imaging, and the image is perfect.
What's happening?

I have only used one of the above mentioned programs (the free IrfanView), but have also had the same good results with Ulead (not sure it this one has been sold to maybe Corel?) PhotoImpact and also Cerious Software's ThumbsPlus. Both, however, are either commercial, or shareware.
For free, IrfanView would be my first choice.
Usually, when this happens, the file's header is corrupt, or not well-formed. Just Open it in the other program, and do a Save_As to the same format. Usually, this will re-write the header info in a proper form for PS.

I'm assuming this is on a local drive, not a networked drive?
Sometime permissions issues can cause strange things in programs on networked drives.
Have you tried a Save As, on another location or folder on your system?

Sender File Adapter pulling Incomplete File - Throwing Alert with MSecsWait

Hi,
 We have sender File communication channel which is polling every 600 Secs. The directory where the files are available is basically an FTP Server directory. Vendors are putting file in this directory and PI is picking up from there.
 
Sometimes File CC is picking up incomplete files.
 
So, I set up Advanced Mode, additional parameter 'Msecs to Wait Before Modification Check' to 10000 (10Secs)
 
Now, it is not picking up incomplete files.
 
But, sometimes PI is trying to process files which are being written by Vendors and stopping the process because of 'Msecs to Wait Before Modification Check' and throwing an error and retrying to process in next polling. As far as stopping the process it si fine.
 
But, the problem is whenever it does this, PI is triggering an alert. We have bunch of Vendor Services and set up an alert rule for all Runtime errors.
 
My question is:
1) Is there any way we can stop sending alerts for this error and keep the generic alert rule ?
 
2) Or, is there any other way not to generate error and at the same time not to process incomplete files.?
 
The error we get is:
2009-11-11 13:10:12 Error Channel CC_XYZ_SENDER: Attempt to send file 'VendorXYZ.xml' failed because file was modified during processing. 2383872 bytes expected, 2678784 bytes found. Trying to resend file
Any pointers are really appreciated.

Hi,
An alternative approach would be to have the vendors write the fles to a temporary ftp directory and have an OS script scheduled to move the files from the temporary directory to the directory from where XI picks the files.
This way, XI will not pick up partially written files.

How do I remove damaged or incomplete files from computer?

I have had difficulty removing about a dozen files from my computer. I have tried all resources that I possess including using the original installation procedure for Maverick (as described) to no avail. I've tried renaming, seeing if they are locked (they aren't) unlocking the bottom lock in the "Get Info" window, and still no luck. All files contain no bytes of information and some possess a "do Not Open" symbol (a shaded circle with a line through it) I get a message that says it can't be deleted because it is damaged or possibly incomplete files. Some are listed as tmp. files, "Image Capture," "1 Password, and "remove.rtf." I was able to rename them, ie. a single letter "u" but still no luck. Running ther latest Maverick on a MacBook Pro. Any help would be appreciated. A minor problem to be sure, nevertheless. . . . .

If you are an administrator for your computer, you can delete user accounts on your computer that are no longer needed.
When you delete a user account, you can choose to save the user's files or delete them.
IMPORTANT: If the user's account is encrypted (FileVault is turned on), turn FileVault off for the user before you delete the account.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Accounts.
If some settings are dimmed, click the lock icon and type an administrator name and password.
Select the user account you want to delete, then click Delete '-'.
Click OK to save the user's files on the computer, or click Delete Immediately to remove the user account and all the user's files.
If you saved the user's files, they are stored in a disk image in the Deleted Users folder, which is in the Users folder on your Mac OS X disk. To see the saved files, double-click the disk image in the Deleted Users folder. You can drag the disk image to the Trash to delete the files.
Note that you have to create a new admin user account for yourself before you proceed: you cannot delete the only admin account on the computer (which would leave you unable to do anything).

Damaged or incomplete files at launch

When I try to start up iTunes, i get the message 'Damaged or incomplete files'. I tried reinstalling and it din't work. I REALLY like iTunes so if you have an answer that would be great!

I would first refer you to Isolating issues in Mac OS X. If you can't get things resolved, then the next place to look would be Mac OS X: About the Archive and Install feature.

File is being truncated by Sender File Adapter

My input file is very wide. It has got 175 fields and is around 4000+ char wide. When file adapter loads it, the inbound payload does not contain all the fields (i.e. it is being truncated). Any idea that how can I load this too wide file!

Firstly, the number of records in your file is not a problem at all. Your limitation is the length of one record. See question 3 in note 545923. It says that your transfer structure cannot be more that 1962 bytes including the system fields.
Now to calculate how many fields will fit into 1962 bytes. For this, take the first field. If the infoobject is defined as CHAR 9 then it is 9 bytes, a key-figure is 10 bytes most of the time. So add up. Remember even if in your flat file there are 2 chars but it is mapped into a char 9 field, it still counts as char 9. I don't think number of columns is a factor.
You can split your file into multiple files of 1962 bytes size but keeping the unique key of the records common across all the files. So that you can merge then in an ODS maybe. Again remember that fields like request number, date packet number, partition ID and record number has to be there in every PSA and a part of the 1962 limit.

You need an editor like Audacity or Adobe Audition.
Audition is a monthly subscription, but Audacity is free.

URL truncated from text file

Hi,
I have stored my url into a text file. it seems that my url
are truncate if there are bigest than 132 or 134 caracters.
I don't think it is a '&' problem because I have replaced
all them with the '%26' char .
I call a generic asp page and pass it a url with arguments
Is there any limitation in Flash with url ?
Do I have to use xml file to workaround this problem ?

thence i want to display this text file in web browser using web.show_document(url, '_blank') .
what should be url for this file to be displayed ???>
To make the file available over a URL you need a web server and your file has to be hosted on that web server.
BTW, that has nothing to do with Forms, the subject of this forum.

"Damaged or Incomplete File"

So I purchased Grand Theft Auto off of the App Store and interrupted the downloading the first time I downloaded it.
I got the normal "damaged or incomplete" error so I uninstalled it and cleared the App Store cache, and reinstalled it.
Its still not working and giving me the same error. I'm trying to maybe clear the application support cache and .plist files and see if maybe that does the trick.
Any other advice?
I can download and install and run other applications from the store just fine, its only this one thats giving me trouble.
Its just frustrating because I recently paid for it and I've been trying to install it all afternoon.

I tried to drag the file onto the Terminal icon in the Dock, but nothing happened. So now I've dragged it into the Terminal window, which I guess is what you meant. When I did that, I saw this:

Then I typed in "remove.rtf" like you said, and had this:
$ /Users/me/Desktop/test remove.rtf
Then I hit enter, and had this:

Deleting damaged or incomplete file,application,etc.

If you ever need help deleting a pesky file that is incomplete or damaged, just follow these simple instructions.
1. Locate file
2. Open Terminal (Finder -> Terminal)
3. Drag the file you are trying to delete into Terminal; this should open a new terminal file.
4. In the new window created by dragging the file in, type in remove.rtf and then hit enter.
5. Your file should now be deleted.

Contact sheet truncates and changes file name

I am using Photoshop CS3 on a G5 PowerPC running OS 10.5.4. My file name is 29 characters long and looks like this - Gar_070208_MD_42BlueHeron_055.JPG. When I make a contact sheet, PS puts the images in the correct order left to right top to bottom. What is wrong is PS changes the last part of the file name.
My settings (I have 4 across and 5 down) are X-Include All Subfolders, X- Flatten All Layers, X- Rotate For Best Fit and X-Use Filename As Caption (Helvetica size 12 pt) The full name fits under each image with room to spare. The resulting name looks like this for the name above - Gar_070208_MD_42BlueH#4A895.JPG. I have tried making the CS a number of time varying the font size and no change. When making those changes, I notice that the file names are still wrong and are consistently the same wrong. And they get weirder, like #4A89D, #4A8A9, #4A8B1 ....
The only thing I can figure is that PS does not like a file name longer than 27 characters, since that is what it truncates to. Or there is another problem/bug in the system.
Any thoughts, ideas or workarounds?

I have the same problem. I am using PS CS3 running under OS 10.5.2. If the file name excluding the extension is longer than 27 characters, I get the same error, starting with the # character. However, if the file name is longer than 27 characters, it still appears correct in Bridge and in the documents folder. This leads me to speculate that it is a Photoshop problem, not an operating system issue.
When I was using contact sheet II in PS CS2 under Windows XP, it worked ok for more than 27 characters.

Log & Capture "Incomplete" file

Hey guys,
I've got a problem capturing a single file. In the Log & Capture window, it shows "Incomplete" beside the clip, but there are two things about that. First, I have another "Incomplete" clip that captures fine, and second, I can see the entire clip in the Log & Capture window. So why can't I just get that video from the preview to the FCP project? Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Incomplete file on Camileo P100

After a video recording session (about 1/2 hour), i saw that the video didn't show on cam.
I found a 1.3 GB file on the SD and I transfer it to my PC.
This is an incomplete MP4 file with good header but with no trailing information (no moov atom) as if the file went improperly closed by the cam.
Firmware bug?
I tried to recover the file with some of the free program, having no success.
All other video, on the same SD, works fine.
Any idea to help me ?

this is not the first video, but is the longest.
Also in the cam I can't see the video, the cam simply "ignore" that file.
Maybe that the file is too big for the sd format (done by the cam) in order to add the moov atom section ?
Some numbers about the video (I used the cam with same settings also for other videos) : total length approx 30 minutes, full hd resolution, 30 frame/sec, audio 44Kh. The file is now 1.427.634.519 bytes.
I just expect an index portion of the video file of about 650/700 MB; and it, with the mdat portion of the file is more than 2GB.
I made some test on my cam with short video in order to check if the problem is related to improper use : e.g. turn off while in pause mode.

There is a limitation to the number of characters in a file name. That may be what's happening.
Also, do not use any nonstandard characters like /, *, ., as the are reserved for special uses and can cause all sorts of problems.
