Trunk config between two 6500 cat switches

Hi All,
What is the recommended trunk configuration between 2 cisco 6500 switches including hsrp scenario.
Thanks

Hi Samir,
In almost all scenarios, its recommended to have 'dot1q' encapsulation and a static trunk config 'switchport mode trunk'. Matching the native VLAN on both sides is required and will be VLAN1 by default.
When configuring trunks, you should be mindful of VTP, trunk and STP states. Reviewing the following for mismatches between your Cat6K will help:
- show vtp status
- show interfaces trunk
- show spanning-tree
In terms of HSRP, it is also recommended to run HSRP active in the same location as STP Root to avoid any asynchronous routing problems.

  • Cross switch etherchannel config between two 6500 and 3750

    Dear All,
    I would like to design the network and got some problem, my network have one 3750 and two 6500, I would like to setup the etherchannel from 3750 (total two uplink port together), one link to the first 6500 and the other link to second 6500, one trunk between 6500 for redundance.
    I tried to use PAgP (auto/desirable, on/on), but the channel misconfig error occurred, the etherchannel keep in suspected or standalone state.
    Anybody can suggest/recommend some method for this case.
    Thanks

    Unfortunately, you cannot create an etherchannel from one device to two different devices. for example, from 3750 you have gig 1/0/1 and gig 1/0/2. gig 1/0/1 of 3750 connects to port 1/1 of switch A and gig 1/0/2 of that same 3750 connects to port 1/2 of switch B. You can NOT create an etherchannel on 3750 to combine gig 1/0/1 and gig 1/0/2 to create a bigger pipe. That is not how etherchannel is designed to do.
    However, if you have gig 1/0/1 and gig 1/0/2 on 3750 connecting to port 1/1 and 1/2 of switch A, you can create a channel on bith devices to create a bigger pipe (4 GBPS @ full duplex) and let's say that on that same 3750, you have an additional gig 1/0/3 and gig 1/0/4 that connects to ports 1/1 and 1/2 of switch B, you can create another separate channel that combines gig 1/0/3 and gig 1/0/4 and switch B's port 1/1 and 1/2, this scenarion is totally acceptable.
    I hope that helps clear up channeling.
    In your described scenario, channeling is not what you are asking, it's STP and you really do not need to do anything as STP is enabled by default, maybe you just need to make sure that the root is where you wnat it to be and that is configureable. With your looped physical topology, STP will prevent loop from forming and will give you the redundancy you seek as when one link fails, the ones blocked by STP would go forwarding once STP detects that it should forward that port.

  • Absolute time between two sets of switches

    Hi!
    I am trying to write a VI that will find the time difference between two sets of switches. I have attached what I currently have which only gets the time for one set of switches.
    What I am trying to include in my VI includes inputing data from two different ports and finding the resulting time difference. The two sets of switches go into different ports on the usb. The starting switches are in port 2 whereas the stoping switches are in port 1. Switch one from the first set should start the timer and switch one from the second set should stop the timer. And this logic continues for the remaining sets. Switch 2 from the first set starts the time and switch 2 from the second set stops the timer...All six switches are completely independant so they can stop in any order.
    I was also wondering how to just have the absolute time from start to stop in hrs/min/sec? And then how to I write the resulting 6 times in hrs/min/sec to a spreadsheet?
    Thanks so much for your help! I apologize for my simple questions! I am new to labview and computer programming in general.

  • Trunk between two SF220-48 switches

    Hello!
    I have two SF220-48 switches with default VLAN1 and additionally created VLAN2 & VLAN3.
    Switches placed in two rooms and are connected to each other via one Ethernet cable which is connected in 48 port on every switch.
    How must I configure 48 port to make it trunk for VLAN1 and VLAN2 & VLAN3?
    Thank's!

    I'm using web interface and make this setting:
    When PСs connected to VLAN2 ports on same switch they can ping each other, but when PСs connected to VLAN2 ports on different switches, they can't ping or make any outer connections.

  • VLAN between two Cisco 300 switches

    Is it possible to share a VLAN between two Cisco 300 series switches?

    Make sure that your port 27 is NOT configured as an access port - it should be a trunk (that's the default). I believe the setting is under VLAN Management > Interface settings.
    Also ensure you are setup to tag frames (under the "Port to VLAN" settings).

  • Trunk SIP between two UC-320W

    Hi,
    Would it be possible to establish a SIP trunk (or anything else) between 2 UC-320W located in two sites ?
    Thanks for your replies....

    For your decision, keep in mind that both the UC320 and also the UC5x0 are announced EOS/EOL. But the (not EOL) CUCME (the Express-Version that runs on the router) can easily handle remote-phones.

  • Synchronizing DB/Config between two standalone ACS, v5.4

    Hello.
    I'm in process of migrating a clients' ACS from 4.2 to 5.4. With 4.2, they have it set up so that two standalone ACS servers (one in US, one in UK) will replicate database and configuration information. They are not configured as a primary/secondary setup.
    For instance, any devices in the  Data Center in UK will reference the UK ACS server first, US second. In the US, it is the opposite. Any configuration changes are generally made on the US side which then replicates to the UK side.
    Is this situation possible in 5.4? I want to avoid users in the UK having to authenticate to the US server and vice-versa unless their local ACS is down.
    Hopefully that makes sense. If it doesn't, let me know.

    I'm looking for a method to replicate the content of a database from one standalone ACS to another. I am not looking for a failover solution.
    The difference is that I want UK people to authenticate to the UK server first, and I want US people to authenticate to the US server first.
    Does that make sense, or am I just not understanding something?

  • Problem with config sync between two CSM-S modules

    Hi everybody,
    I have a problem with config sync between two CSM-S modules.
    I am using CSM-S software version 2.1(8).
    The acitve module is used in a 6509 with WS-SUP720-BASE supervisor running software version 12.2(18)SXF12a.
    The standby module is used in a 6509-V with VS-S720-10G supervisor (no VSS setup) running software version 12.2(33)SXI3.
    Failover seems to work fine:

    Maybe someone has the same problem?
    kind regards,

    Hi Christoph,
    I am running into the exact same issue. Upon further investigation I've discovered that this is a known bug, CSCtd09117.  You can read more about it here: http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/search/getBugDetails.do?method=fetchBugDetails&bugId=CSCtd09117 .   Apparently this is fixed in ver 12.2(32.8.11)SX323 .
    I haven't had a chance to upgrade yet, so I can't verify the fix, but if it works for you please let me know.

  • Etherchannel between two 2950 switches

    Thank you for the rating.
    Regarding your replacement scenario, I'll give the standard engineering answer ("it depends"), but actually follow up with something I hope is more helpful.    I'm sincerely interested to see other's viewpoint on this as well, as it has changed over the years.
    Many years ago (let's say a decade) I ran into problems with some devices not being able to auto-negotiate properly.  There was a tendancy for devices to fail or negotiate to half-duplex mode when a full-duplex connection was warranted.  At the time, the problems we experienced were mainly with traffic shaping devices and some other gear.  There were others using fixed settings as a standard practice, and we did the same since we had verifiable issues.
    Fast forward to now.  I personally have not experienced auto-negotiation problems in a long time and am reading more from others in the field that auto-negotiation is the way to go (such as from the link provided).  Indeed, I've now run into the opposite scenario: I had a particular situation where a link between two devices defaulted to half-duplex EVEN THOUGH they were both set to 100/Full.  It turned out to be a race condition between a device and a Cisco router...the other device booted faster, didn't see anything on the link, and "helpfully" dropped down to half-duplex.  I confirmed the issue with the device vendor, who recommended setting ports to auto-negotiate as the fix (their software would not be updated for a bit of time).
    I would recommend auto-negotiate as a standard practice, with the exception of areas where you have encountered specific problems.  Those latter cases should be caught through your pre-deployment testing, and discussed with the respective vendors so that you fully understand why the devices are behaving the way they are so that the proper mitigation measures can be put in place (i.e. - It is going to act the same way every time, and you can work with that).
    Good luck!  -Ed

  • Configure trunk port between 2 SG500 switches

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to do what seems to be a simple task but cannot get it to work.  I've very familiar with the Cisco commands on 2900 all the way up to 6500 series switches.  The SG500 has me stumped.  I have 3 switches, sw1, sw2, sw3.  sw1 and sw2 are stacked.  sw3 is standalone and in a different part of the building, maybe 25ft away.  All I want to do is set up a trunk port between the stack and the standalone.  In going by past experience, I would set the port as :
    - switchport mode trunk
    - switchport trunk allowed vlan 2,3,4
    The SG makes me specify tagged or untagged - which is fine.  So any vlan I want to move across the trunk i tag, obviously.  I do everything as I've done for years and it doesn't work.  VLAN1 is untagged, all VLANs I want to flow are allowed and tagged.
    I'm quickly realizing I should have bucked up and just bought what I'm used to but I didn't have a choice in the matter.
    Any help would be great!
    Shawn

    Hi Shawn, something is the matter if the switch is asking you for tagged or untagged. The only reason it should be requesting a tag or untag statement is from a general port mode.
    The command syntax for the function is exactly the same as an IOS switch
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk allowed vlan add 2,3,4
    Just like a Catalyst, if you use switchport trunk allowed vlan x,x,x it won't take the command as insufficient privilege or whatever the error it gives, suffice it say it doesn't really do anything without the add(or remove).

  • How do I quickly* switch between two Skype account...

    I have a need to be able to quickly* switch between two Skype accounts on my Windows 7 desktop computer.
    Both accounts have high-security difficult-to-remember and hard-to-type passwords.
    Many products have a facility for doing this, remembering recent account/password combinations, or having linked accounts.
    Does Skype have a way of doing this?
    And if it doesn't, how do I request it get one be developed?
    I use a password manager, LastPass, but of course Skype isn't a browser so it doesn't work with Lastpass.
    * "Quickly switch" means without switching computer sign-on accounts and without re-typing the high-security difficult-to-remember and hard-to-type passwords many times per day.

    This can be done by setting up an another Skype client in a separate directory and with a shortcut containing the extra /datapath, /removable and /secondary switches.

  • Can I use straight cable to connect trunk ports between 2 switches?

    Hi,
    Am I able to use straight instead of cross cable to connect trunk ports between 2 switches??
    thanks!

    Hi Devang,
    When a 10/100 Fast Ethernet interface is enabled, one end of the link must perform media dependent interface (MDI) crossover (MDIX), so that the transmitter on one end of the data link is connected to the receiver on the other end of the data link (a crossover cable is typically used).
    The Auto-MDIX feature eliminates the need for crossover cabling by performing an internal crossover when a straight cable is detected during the auto-negotiation phase.
    HTH, if yes please rate the post.

    <table><tr><td class="SAPBEXBtnStdBorder" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0"><tr><td>

    but i am not getting correct functionality.
    please help me to solve this problem.
    I know the best way to say thanks in SDN.
    thanks
    Kiran Patel

    Kiran,
      Use the web api reset_data_provider as links or in select option in HTML.
       Onchange event of this select option should call JAVASCRIPT method and
       this in turn resets the current dataprovider to your concerned one.
       How to change graphs:
       The graph item has the default data provider:
       <object>
             <param name="OWNER" value="SAP_BW"/>
             <param name="CMD" value="GET_ITEM"/>
             <param name="NAME" value="CHART_1"/>
             <param name="ITEM_CLASS" value="CL_RSR_WWW_ITEM_CHART"/>
             <param name="DATA_PROVIDER" value="DATAPROVIDER_1"/>
             <param name="TMP_CHART_DATA_HANDLE" value="IIP_49MOXB0UVNOMM6JOZMZU7QO21"/>
             ITEM:            CHART_1
       </object>
      So if you change the DATAPROVIDER_1 using RESET_DATA_PROVIDER to your concerned DP, this changes chart as well !!
       Please use this method and refer to sample code for Onchange Event on SELECT OPTION:
      <HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <script>
    function callDP() {
         if(document.forms[0].dp.value == "1") {
            //form your URL here..
           url = SAP_BW_URL_Get() + "&CMD=RESET_DATA_PROVIDER&DATA_PROVIDER_1=..&...";
            SAPBWOpenURL(url);
            //or docuemtn.location.href = url..
            //etc..
    </script>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    <form>
    <select name="dp" onChange="javascript:callDP();">
    <option value="1">1</option>
    <option value="2">2</option>
    </select>
    </form>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>

  • White box appears while switching between two desktops

    Hello all,
    Since few weeks I have a problem when I switch between two Desktops. Everytime I switch between them a white box appears in the left corner of my screen (see screenshot).

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

    hi I'm travelling between two countries and i have a credit card and address in both, can i set up my itunes account to switch between the respectice i tunes stores

    Not a single account, no, at least not easily. It would be better to set up individual iTunes Store accounts, one in each country. Your computer and devices can quite happily deal with two accounts, and then you can just log into the appropriate account when you're in the applicable country. You'll need a second email address to able to create a new Apple ID.
