Trunking with Cisco 2621 Router
I am unable to configure encapsulation on the sub-interfaces that I have created on this router.I have switches with vlans in them and cannot route.Any ideas?
Hello,
in addition to what Ankur said, do a ´show version´ and check if the name of the .bin file of your image has ´is´ in it. Here is an example of an IOS IP Plus image name:
c2600-is-mz.122-31.bin
If you are not sure which version you are running, can you post the output of ´show version´?
Regards,
GP

Problem with Cisco 861W router and outgoing VPN
We have a Cisco 861W router that is blocking an outgoing PPTP on the internal access point only. The outgoing VPN works when the traffic is through a wired connection or the connection is on another access point. We fail to make a connection only when connection to the 861W's internal Access Point.

Cisco 2621 Router - Flash Erased
Hi All,
I did something stupid. yes it was me, nobody else to blame,I erased the flash memory on my spare 2621 router. I then rebooted the router and now I'm hung in "romomn" mode.
I have tried the two different recovery modes in order to upload a new IOS onto the router. From Cisco "How to Download a Software Image to a Cisco 2600 through TFTP using the tftpdnld Rommom Command".
I am using Solar Winds for my TFTP server and the replacement image (c2600-i-mz.122-34a.bin) is in the TFTP root. I configure all the proper parameters, then run "set" to make sure they are correct. When I invoke the "tftpdnld" command I keep getting the message that the "IP_ADDRESS" is illegal. Note: This was a spare router and not in production and had no config file on it that I know about. Iam hooked up through a concole cable using Hyperterminal. The IP address of my tftp server (laptop) is 192.168.10.155. I set 192.168.10.240 (spare IP address on my network) as the IP address of the router in romon mode, didn't know what else to put in since the router doesn't have an IP address set.
Next I have tried using xmodem to upload the image and keep getting a "time oiut". Yes, I have reset the speed up to 115,200.
I really need to get this router up and running as soon as possible. This weekend we're changing from BGP to RIP (going from 2 T-1 lines to just 1) and I don't want to change the config on our 3640 until I make sure the new configuration is working on the 2621 first. That way, if things go "south" I cna put the 3640 back into place and be back up and running in minutes.
Any ideas to help me get out of this mess?
Thanks,
ChuckAre you just connected to the router via a console cable or do you have a ethernet connection between your laptop and the router e0 interface.
The reason I ask is I didn't see it in your post. I might have overlooked it.
Procedures for Recovering Boot and System Images
If your router experiences difficulties and no longer contains a valid Cisco IOS software image in flash memory, you can recover the Cisco IOS image using one of the following ROM monitor commands:
xmodemUse this if the computer attached to your console has a terminal emulator that has xmodem capability.
tftpdnldUse this if you have a TFTP server directly connected to the Ethernet 0 port.

ASA 5510 with Cisco 2811 Router Behind it - Not forwarding traffic
Hi all,
Some might know that I have been dealing with an issue where I cannot seem to get forwarded packets to reach their destinations behind an ASA 5510 that has a Cisco 2811 connected directly behind it.
Some examples that work.
I can SSH into the ASA.
I can SSH to the Cisco Routers behind the ASA.
I cannot reach items beind the Cisco Routers.
My Configuration is this (I am sure I included a bunch of info I didn't need to, but I am hoping it'll help!):
I have a static Ip assigned to my Ouside Interface Ethernet 0/1
It has an IP address of 199.195.xxx.xxx
I am trying to learn how to shape network traffic (this is all new to me) via the ASA and the Routers to specific devices.
The Inside Interface on the ASA is 10.10.1.1 255.255.255.252
The Outside Interface on the 2811 is 10.10.1.2 255.255.255.252
I can ping the router from the ASA. I can SSH through the ASA to the router.
BUT I CANNOT ACCESS DEVICES BEHIND THE ROUTER.
So, I wanted to BAM that statement above because I just don't kjnow where the issue is. Is the issue on the router or the ASA, my guess is, the router, but I just don't know.
Here are my configs, helpfully someone can help.
ASA errors on the ASDM when I try and hit resources; specifically a web device behind the ASA and the 2811. It's Ip address 192.168.1.5 it's listening on port 80.Static IP, not assigned via DHCP.

no message-leI ran those commands while I had the nat off on the router and here are the results. note, i didn't make any changes to the ASA as you only said to remove the router RIP which I did and reloaded and no change.
As long as the statements ip nat outside on the Fastethernet 0/0 is off and the ip nat inside is off on the vlan and the overload statement is taken out, I cannot hit the internet.

Problem with Cisco 831 router NAT translation or routing
Hello,
I’ve reviewed several post on this forum, very useful, and I think this 831 router config should allow for NAT'ng port 8080 to the ‘inside’ ip address, per this statement below. but my efforts have not been successful, no responses get back to outside client (xx.24.40). clients on inside can communicate outbound fine. The iis server at .10.3 is definitely up and running on port 8080. I know this is probably a duplicate of other posts but if anyone can pinpoint my error I would really appreciate it!!

endHi Alain,
yes, the client i was testing with is on the same subnet as public router ip. Good thought on the firewall, I will disable any firewall on iis machine (my laptop) and re-test. will reply with those results on Monday. ultimately i'm needing to test nat for port 9100 to a printer, I'll add that and test as well, firewall shouldn't be a factor with printer.
thank you.

Dear All,
I got the following errors from my cisco 2621 router - the network connection between our ISP and our router suddenly unstable and have packet lost. But after router reload, the problem will be resolved.
This error message does not show up from time to time but today it happen again. Last time this problem happened, i had checked with ISP engineer to make sure "Duplex & Speed" are the same between our router and their network switch.
From Cisco website, the problem explanation is "Possible causes are usually incorrect cabling or a non-compliant number of hubs in the network. Bad network interface cards (NICs) can also cause late collisions". I personally don't think this is the problem, so any other reason ? E.g. IOS version not stable ?

just to make sure: when you say that you have checked speed and duplex settings on both sides, does that mean that both sides are set to fixed full duplex and speed settings (no autonegotiate) ?
As for the UNDERFLO error message, this is what CCO says:
Error Message
%AMDP2_FE-3-UNDERFLO: AMDP2/FE([dec]/[dec]), Transmit underflow
Explanation While transmitting a frame, the controller chip's local buffer received insufficient data because data could not be transferred to the chip fast enough to keep pace with its output rate. Normally, such a problem is temporary, depending on transient peak loads within the system.
Recommended Action The system should recover. No action is required.

Contact Center Enhanced License for Cisco 2951 Router
Hi,
I need an urgent help to get the exact part number/details of Contact center enhanced license.
I couldn't find in CCW or any other tool about this license with Cisco 2951 Router (CISCO2951-V/K9).
To run this license on mentioned router, do we need to order it separately or we can take it with router?
Please respond asap.Hi Andre,
I was just refering the Ordering guide which says
Updating UCSS contract when upgrading Unified CCX licenses
UCSS cannot be upgraded from one category to another (e.g. Standard to Enhanced). If
the customer upgrades within the solution, they need to purchase UCSS for greater or
equal value to cover the new version, then they can request a credit on the unused term
of the original purchase from Customer Service
you can also speak to [email protected] for more details on ESW.

Router on a Stick with Cisco/Linksys SRW2024 Switch
Does anybody have experience with configuring a router on a stick type configuration with a non-Catalyst switch? I have a SRW2024 switch and a 2611 router. I would like to configure the switch with a trunk port and use dot1q encapsulation on subinterfaces on the router to route between the subnets. Configuring the router is simple, but the switch is very confusing and I just can't seem to get it to work. Any ideas? Is this even doable with this combonation of hardware?
Thanks in advance.
-DanThe "Encapsulation dot1q 1 native" command is not a valid command on my router. Specifically, the native command is not an option. Perhaps that isn't in my IOS version?
IOS (tm) C2600 Software (C2600-JS56I-M), Version 12.0(7)T, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)
IOS image: c2600-js56i-mz.120-7.T
However I did a whole lot of messing around with it today and I think I finally got it. The trouble is, IMHO, the switch menus are too messy and hard to understand. It seems to allow me to do impossible things which adds to the confusion.
Here's what worked for me:
My router config was correct to begin with.
Router-A (Cisco 2611):
interface Ethernet0/0
ip address 192.168.1.10 255.255.255.0
interface Ethernet0/0.2
encapsulation dot1Q 2
ip address 10.0.0.1 255.0.0.0
Switch (Linksys SRW20204):
Menu: Switch > VLAN Interface Settings
Select the port number of the port to be the trunk.
Set Port VLAN Mode to Trunk. Submit.
Menu: Switch > VLAN
Create a second VLAN with the ID of 2.
Add the ports to be "Included" on this VLAN.
Leave the workstation ports "Untagged".
(This is where I was screwing up)...
"Include" the Trunk port AND select "Tagged".
So basically, I was tagging the workstation ports and not the trunk port. But the correct way is the Trunk port must be Included on all VLANs and have Tagging turned on for all VLANs. All the workstation ports should be included on whatever VLAN they should be on but NOT Tagged. It makes sense now because a workstation would have no idea what to do with a tagged frame.
Why I can enable tagging on non-trunk ports is a mystery. They really should explain that better in the manual. Perhaps add some examples. I find the manual for this switch to be extremely vague overall.
Thakns for the help guys!

Cisco 877 router - Cisco IP phone won't register with SIP provider
Hi all,
I'm having a problem with a Cisco SPA504G phone not registering with the SIP carrier over the Internet. We've recently rolled out a Cisco 877 router onto a new NBN business connection and can't get the pre-configured IP phone to register.
When we tested the phone with the NBN-provided Netgear router, it worked fine, as it did with the previous Cisco 1841 router we were using on a different link.
The way it's setup is using VLANs to define the internal subnets, which are then assigned to the physical interfaces (since the 887 doesn't allow IP assignments to the interfaces directly).
VLAN 100 is the internal network and has a SBS2011 server – assigned to F0 – IP range is 192.168.1.0
VLAN 200 is the guest network and has Internet access only – assigned to F1 – IP range is 10.1.1.0
VLAN 500 is the WAN network and connects to the NBN upstream box – assigned to F3 – external IP address assigned by DHCP
I've been playing around with access lists, nat rules, basically everything in my limited Cisco knowledge to try and figure this out, but to no avail. I have even configured what I believe is unrestricted access to IP, UDP and TCP outbound and inbound to all VLANs and still can't get it to register.
Tried isolating the issue by creating a new VLAN and assigning it to the spare interface and basically allowing everything in and out, but still no luck.
The problem has to be something on the router – probably some small line of config I haven’t removed or added.
I am going to pull my hair out soon, so would really appreciate some assistance from the Cisco gurus out there.
My client has just purchased about 10 of these handsets from their provider so I need to fix this ASAP. The guy who provided them wasn't very helpful, and basically said I'm on my own once we tested using the NBN-provided Netgear router.
Happy to post my config as well.
Please help!!!!Current configuration : 4912 bytes

Configuration Issue with my Cisco 871 Router
Hi all,
I am a newbie to the Cisco IOS.
I got a Cisco 871 Router that I'd like to use for internet connection. My LAN network is 192.168.1.0/24 and the ISP has assigned us the IP 41.212.79.108/24 and gateway 41.212.79.1.
With my current configuration, I can hit the router - 192.168.1.1 - and it's WAN port - 41.212.79.108 - but not the gateway.
Below is my current config:

I'll appreciate any light you can shed on what am missing.2 wireless routers can not communicate wirelessly with each other.
You need to connect cable between 2 routers and use the second wireless router as access point.
Follow this link to connect Linksys router to another router.
Some of your devices are getting same IP address. This might be the issue with DHCP server of the router. You can try DHCP reservation on the router so that each device will get unique IP address. -
What are the ideal settings for my TC with Shaw's Cisco DPC3825 router/modem
My old 2nd Gen Time Capsule crapped out and now I am about to set up my new 2TB TC. My provider is Shaw Communications and they have upgraded me to their Broadband 100 Mbps service. This came with a new modem/router combo made by Cisco and is model DPC3825. Before I start plugging things in I'd like to know what are the ideal settings such that I gain the most of the BB100 service. Should I be setting the Cisco modem/router to Bridge mode or the TC? Should I have Shaw disable anything? Any insight is greatly appreciated.
Unless you specifically need to have the TC perform as the main router for your network, life will be a lot easier if you configure the TC to operate in Bridge Mode.
Whether the Cisco modem/router or gateway can possibly be configured to act as a simple bridge mode modem is one thing to consider.
Whether Shaw would support you in the event of any connection difficulties with the modem/router configured this way is another.
Since Shaw is your provider, it might make sense to talk with them about best practice as far as configuring the DPC3825.
Once you have that information in hand, you will then have the answer on how best to configure the TC.....which will very likely be in Bridge Mode. -
Cisco 2811 Router with 3 ADSL card and load balancing
Dear All,
I have few queries:
1. Does Cisco 2811 Router support 3 ADSL card?
2. We are the ISP. I want to do load balancing with 3 dsl
line on Cisco 2811 Router.
Please send me the linke for this configuration.
Thanks/Regards
Atulhi
In 2811 you have 4 HWIC and 1 NME you can install 1-port ADSL WAN Interface Cardon the HWIC slots.
Also just enable 3 default (equal cost) routes towards the interfaces which will take care of the load balancing.
if you need more info and inputs do post out with ur requirements along with network topology in place at present..

K24Sw01#HI Mark,
Here is the my config:
Create sub-interfaces, set 802.1Q trunking protocol and ip address on each sub-interface
Router(config)#interface f0/0
Router(config-if)#no shutdown
(Note: The main interface f0/0 doesn’t need an IP address but it must be turned on)
Router(config)#interface f0/0.10
Router(config-subif)#encapsulation dot1q 10
Router(config-subif)#ip address 192.168.10.1 255.255.255.0
Router(config-subif)#interface f0/0.20
Router(config-subif)#encapsulation dot11 20
Router(config-subif)#ip address 192.168.20.1 255.255.255.0
(Note: In the “encapsulation dot1q 10″ command, 10 is the VLAN ID this interface operates in)
Configure VLAN
Switch(config)#vlan 10
Switch(config-vlan)#name SALES
Switch(config-vlan)#vlan 20
Switch(config-vlan)#name TECH
Set ports to access mode & assign ports to VLAN
Switch(config)#interface range fa0/1
Switch(config-if)#no shutdown
Switch(config-if)# switchport mode access
Switch(config-if)# switchport access vlan 15
Switch(config-if)#interface range fa0/3
Switch(config-if)#no shutdown
Switch(config-if)#switchport mode access
Switch(config-if)# switchport access vlan 20
Switch(config-if)#interface range fa0/5
Switch(config-if)#no shutdown
Switch(config-if)#switchport mode trunk
1. Please check all your port are up.
2. Check the config once again.
3. Make sure the swicth and router connection port configured as trunk and it should be up.
This config is working for me,
Regards

How to see ASP/VBScript variable names inline
