Trusted installer hassle solved

This post is about my ultimately successful struggle to cope with Vista's multi-layer security system, the "Trusted Installer" scheme, which creates infuriating barriers to managing files on your own dang computer. I just got my first Thinkpad, a T400, and am delighted with it even though it is my first experience with Vista. I am annoyed at Lenovo, however, for sticking a trial version of Office 2007 on it. I have a perfectly good license for Office 2003. Removal of Office 2007 seemed to go smoothly and quickly enough but of course uninstalling software rarely removes every file. Sure enough, when I tried to install Office 2003, the installation quickly generated "Error 1913"--the installer was unable to revise a system32 file, mapisvc.inf that I'm pretty sure was left over from the Office 2007 installation. I tried to delete or rename the file myself and discovered I couldn't. I didn't have ownership of it. "Trusted Installer" had ownership of it and it wasn't obvious how to get control of it myself. Turning off UAC doesn't do it. Shutting down the "trusted installer" service is NOT the way to go. Its difficult and I've read that if you succeed, you will be unable to install any Windows updates.

Once I renamed the file, effectively deleting it, the Office 2003 installation continued without a hitch. No doubt this comes up for other Lenovo customers from time to time.
Lenovo, you would do us all a favor if you gave the option of getting our hard drives clean along with an OS installation disk. Or at least give us the option of ordering a clean installation of the OS with nothing else added on.

I tried to answer to another thread with a similar title and it has been locked..I wonder why? Of course not is obvious,Microsoft is peeved off.

Now I want to ask,what would happen if I delete trusted installer.exe from the registry? Would I automatically gain access to the programs this thing takes control of?
I mean it is stopping me from moving Notepad to my desktop,for years I had windows vista and I have always had the notepad on my desktop....if I try to put a shortcut of Notepad on the desktop is telling me that I need permission from trusted installer.YOU

So apparently you did not read the post very well. Trusted installer is stupid at best. Before windows 7 this was not a thing and computers all over the world did not end....... I do not have a tried an true way cutting out this tumor that is keeping from
deleting things like background pictures how ever here are the steps to taking control over the stupid thing. It sucks I know but better slow than windows getting to do what it wants.
1. Go to the folder that contains the file or Folder whose ownership you want to change.
2. Right Click of mouse on that file or Folder and Choose “Properties“.
3. Navigate to “Security”
tab.
4. Click on “Advanced” on
the Security tab to open the Advance security setting for the file.
5. On the Owner ; Click on “Change“.
6. Click on “Advanced” on
the open “Select User or Group” Window.
7. Click on “Find Now” on
the open Window.
8. It will show you all the available user on the Search results.
9. Now select the user that you want to give the ownership and click on “OK“.
10. Again Click on “OK” on
the “Select User or Group” to change the ownership.
11. Now the Ownership for that file or folder is changed.
12. Now apply all the changes and Click on OK and close all the open Window.
13. That is it.
Again I am sorry it is only a treatment not a cure.
BTW if you are going tell us about what its purpose is WE DON'T CARE. we lived fine without it before and now it is just causing stupid problems.
I will keep looking and let you know what i come up with.

Trusted installer

You know I dislike bing which is protected by the Trusted Installer it over powers everything, you can't set the web page to open to the way you want. From what I've read, messing with the Trusted installer can mess up windows, all I want to do is get

Trusted Installer for Reg Clean Pro

Operating Windows 7 and have a problem removing Reg Clean Pro. Got rid of most, but not all, of the files and registries but it still pops up. Found a file that's protected by trusted install and can't change permissions. Can I remove Trusted Installer to
the recycle bin, change permissions than put trusted installer back without doing any harm?

Installation Hassle For Photoshop CS4

After recieving Photoshop Elements, I installed and registered the product to my Windows Vista 64-bit PC. After recieving Photoshop CS4, I installed the product on the same computer. The installation went fine, but when I start it up, it starts up as Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended. I entered in the serial number (name on sticker is Photoshop UPSL) from the back of my CD case without problems. It brings me to the screen to enter Photoshop Elements' serial number. I select the 6.0 version and enter the serial number correctly, but I recieve the message "Serial number does not match the product you selected."
I do not understand why my Photoshop Elements serial number is not activating the program, nor do I understand why I have recieved a Photoshop CS4 Extended Trial Version from a CD case and installation box the has Photoshop CS4 written all over it.. If buying Photoshop like this has become this much as a hassle, they should do away with upgrade products and give away true full versions of Photoshop CS4 for 50% off.

The serial number on the back of my Photoshop CS4 DVD case is the one I used. It is the only 24-digit number that came with the CS4 package. The next screen prompted me to enter Photoshop Elements' serial number, mentioning the serial number I entered is for an upgrade version of Photoshop CS4 Extended. This does not sound correct because I did not buy a CS4 Extended software, yet it loads up as such.
Photoshop Elements is also a 24-digit serial number. The sticker on the back of Bamboo Fun's Software Bundle CD case that installs Photoshop Elements says it is version 6.0, which the software itself says in the Help > About Photoshop Elements Menu. But when I enter the serial number with Photoshop Elements 6.0 selected, I get the message, "The serial number does not match the product you selected."
During installation, it never prompted me if I wanted to try a trial version of Photoshop CS4 Extended, only Photoshop-related options were Photoshop CS4 and Photoshop CS4 (64-bit).

MAC OS X Clientless VPN Plug-in Installation Problem Solved

I have nearly pulled my hair out trying to get clientless VPN connections to work for Mac users looking to connect into our RV220W.
The key is to connect to the router as root the first time in order to avoid VPN plug-in installation permissions issues.
Preconditions: Java must be installed. Installing Java 7 for Mac OS X is 64-bit. This means that 32-bit browsers like Chrome cannot be used and that only 64-bit browsers like Safari will work with the plug-in.
Part 1 – Install the VPN Plug-in
Enable the root user account.
Log into the Mac as root.
Connect to the RV220W VPN portal.
Enter your credentials.
Select VPN Tunnel menu item
Hit the SSL VPN Tunnel Client Installer / Launcher icon.
When prompted, run the Installer.
The VPN should connect.
Disconnect from the VPN and log out of the root System Administrator account.
Part 2 – Use the VPN Plug-in
Log in as your normal user account.
Connect to the router’s VPN portal.
Enter your credentials.
Select VPN Tunnel menu item
Hit the SSL VPN Tunnel Client Installer / Launcher icon.
When prompted, run the software.
The VPN should connect.

I solved my problem by downloading and installing the "Final Cut Pro Universal (supports Intel)" .sit version of the plug-in, which is not the default. I will inform StageTools that the default .zip download doesn't seem to work.

Installation problems solved for XP SP2 systems.

I've been pulling my hair for days trying to install SC2, but had no luck.
The installation process DOES have a bug. Use the following tactic in addition to disabling any firewalls and virus programs:
Right-click on the installer file and select 'Compatibility' . Click 'Run this program in compatibility mode:'. Finally, simply select Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5) mode.
Problem solved for now. Hope this helps.

This is very interesting akian ty - I will definitely try this at the weekend. I can install and run on a laptop with XP SP2 - and it had previous versions installed on it. However on the desktop PC I have not been able to install.
My problems have been with opening ports and appserver not starting. I will post back here how I get on with your tip. Thanks and also for the other suggestions that people have tried to help me with.

i followed the instructions at kdemod, to the letter (<---sounds like my grandmother). i got the same errors using the norwegian repo site, too. my installation of arch is only a week old and i haven't messed with it all that much. otherwise, it's a lovely day in north carolina.

My Leopard installation problems solved

My Preparations
I had received an update for the 1.1 firmware update (OSx 10.4.10), but it would not install. It turned out, the disk was not a "GUID" partition. I backed up the disk after having problems with 2 files it said it could not find. Finally found these were some mirror files under /users/art/Library/Mirrors (the backup had stopped on the Mirrors directory). Had no idea what they were or where they came from, but copied them to another drive and then deleted them. After that, the backup worked. The internal drive was a Hitachi 100 GB, 7200 RPM that replace the original 80 GB drive. I had done a Carbon Copy clone, but guess it was not exactly a clone.
I repartitioned the drive as GUID HPFS+ and done a clean install of 10.4.8 and also done a migration from the backup, then done an update to 10.4.10 where the firmware update worked. So I had the fully updated internal 10.4.10 and a bootable USB 80 GB drive.
The Leopard Install
I selected the install/archive option, and Leopard installed with no problems including migrating the applications from the previous install. I did not have the applications enhancement which I do not even know what is. I then let Leopard do an update where it updated the Quicktime and another program whose name slips my mind right now. It said it had to reboot and did where it installed the programs, but then when the reboot started, it come up with the rotating beach ball at the login screen and would just keep rebooting. Tried everything that was mentioned the discussion group but nothing worked. I ended up using the Disk Utility to erase with write zeros, then a clean install. Everything went fine, update went fine, and it was much faster than before by 4 or 5 times. Went and got my applications from the backup and updated those with updates for Leopard including Parallels, Vuescan, Skype, Firefox, Thunderbird, NeoOffice, and a few others. System is now working fine and is much faster the 10.4.10. Oh, I did have to update my DIR655 wireless router for the wireless also.
(Macbook was purchased here in Taiwan where it is made with Chinese Leopard US English installation)
The one word of advice I would give to anyone, make a bootable backup of your operating system. I am glad I did, it saved my bacon.

Openbox 3.2 Installation Troubles --solved

I'm using widget, and I was not able to startX after configuring it (suing X-configure) the error was mouse-related. I read some of the documentation, and saw the recommendation to update openbox.
So i download openbox-3.2.tar.gz, and decompress it. I then cd into the dir, and type ./configure. all is well, it tells me to type make. I do, and i get an error message.
"make: *** [all-recusive] Error 1"
There was more, but it would be a hassle to type out, just ask if you need more, and this isnt just a basic problem.
edit: for any newbies who find this: in your XF86Config file, change the device option under the mouse section to be /dev/psaux, if you are using a ps/2 mouse.

the compiling trouble is maybe because of the incompatiblity with the gcc 3.4.0
did you used ABS to rebuild it?

WHO IS this TRUSTED INSTALLER?

There is no explaination of his/her identity in the properties and I'm usually locked out of the files owned by this user...AND why does he block me out of suddenly newly appointed executionable programs that just appear in my processes? They are usually
suspicious looking so I look at the properties and I'm locked out (even though I am an administrator) so I must go through the sometimes un-nerving process of changing ownership and/or deleting "him"...if the process was explained in the properties
a little better, this would help. These things get in/past my private firewall daily and it bothers me. Too much spying crap going on. And ever time I run a malwarebytes scan there is ALWAYS a search file from IE that pops up as a PUP. I
don't even use IE at all and I've blocked it in my firewall (?why? who the H is speedbit and do search and why do they change or infiltrate my startpage search engine???) due to my mistrust in the privacy I get when using them. All of the trojans, worms,
spyware and malware have come directly from Microsoft. Why is that and why don't they require my permission to install programs and processes on my computer...and, no they are not coming from updates.
please address this question clearly and directly and honestly as I'm quite tired of the deception I feel is going on between my computers operating system and my protective programming I'm suppose to feel safe with.

Thank you for your reply Lewis but yes, I am daily aware of everything going on in regards to new programs, processes etc. I have Norton Insight and online protection, use malwarebytes and PrivateFirewall. I have seen AVG try to install itself
through stealthmode applications but caught it. I never install anything from 3rd parties and always verify the site before using it. (ie Adobe updates for instance, I never check the McAvee box nor do I accept toolbars or any ASK products etc
etc). Verifiable ? when the Norton or Malwarebytes detail screen shows the name of the PUP it will show the path as well and this is how I know where it came from. Usually an IE search program which is really sneaky because I do not even
use IE yet it gets in anyway.
My question at hand though is who is this TrustedInstaller and can I edit him off of my properties to allow myself access without it affecting my computer. I usually notice him/her as owner of MS products that are in the hidden mode and have a lock
on the icon. I often notice them when they appear suddenly in a process that wasn't there previously (ie: SPI32.EXE OR SPA.EXE WHICH IS SPEEDBIT SEARCH ENGINE FOR IE) GOOGLE is getting to be the same way in so far as introducing new programs
and processes that are not requested or scheduled...Sorry Lewis but I come from a different generation and have seen the days of respect and privacy and understanding and I believe these companies just assume my generation are too uninvolved to notice.
You need to be more assertive with your questions and concerns maybe. Don't let anyone just tell you "it's ok, that just the way it is" ASK WHY!!!!

What do I do after installation? [SOLVED]

I am a complete Arch Linux noob. I am not a complete noob to linux, however. I have successfully installed Arch, but don't know what to do after I reboot. It takes me to a terminal. How do I set up/get to a gui? Also, the Grub Bootloader doesn't give me an option to boot into Windows. Is there a way to fix this? Sorry if I sound like a complete idiot.
