Truthful about damage, our MacBook air repair order has been canceled. What does this mean?

My husband spilled a beverage on my Air, and we promptly took it to our local Apple store. I am fully aware that AppleCare does not cover water damage. However, while at the store the genius bar folks informed us (in writing) that they could make a one time exception which reduced the tier four damage from almost $700, to $0. Needless to say this thrilled us, as we were completely prepared to replace the unit out if pocket without argument. Later in the evening I signed into my apple account just to see if it had been mailed to the depot. Apple canceled the repair. I would think postponing it, and then calling us to say "hey, we will need payment for this" would have happened before canceling the repair. I need this machine working ASAP for my work, so to have it canceled during memorial day weekend is very bad for us.
Basic info:
1. We fully disclosed that there is water damage
2. In writing we have a CS code, and written statement "depot repair as a one time exception for customer" listed under proposed resolution
3. Amount due $0.00
Now, I don't mind (well, I do mind because it *****) paying for a repair due to my husbands neglect, however I wish a phone call or email communication should have been made prior to outright canceling the repair order.
What can I do? What does the canceled order mean. we've been loyal apple customers for years, multiple computers, iPhones, I pods, and I pads. The cancellation of our repair order seems odd.

>while at the store the genius bar folks informed us (in writing)
Have you contacted the Genius that gave you this information for an explanation?  If his/her name is not on the written statement you received, it should be in Apple's system.
>What can I do? What does the canceled order mean.
>I need this machine working ASAP for my work, so to have it canceled during memorial day weekend is very bad for us.
I would call either the Apple Store or Applecare.  They should be able to help you.
FWIW, I agree with you 100% that you should have been contacted by Apple.
EDIT:  Looks like you resolved this while I was typing

  • Order status in progress, what does this mean?

I ordered a product and the order status is "In Progress" does this mean it has been shipped or it is not available?

      - the delay is likely due to the high number of orders that were placed over the weekend with Black Friday. One thing to note is that shipping notifications aren't sent out in real time, so just because your account hasn't updated, your product could already be en route to you. I placed an order on the 29th and only received my shipping notification this morning (and my product has been delivered), if that helps ease your mind at all! If you don't get anything by the end of today, you can try calling Customer Service, but it's likely it's just high volume of Black Friday.
    Cheers,

First, restart the MacBook Air and the Time Capsule. In most of the cases, this solves the problem.

  • Order has been canceled because we were unable to verify your information.

I tried ordering a Macbook Air yesterday several times, but it keeps saying "your order has been canceled because we were unable to verify your information." I used some egiftcards for some of the balance and credit card for the rest. I tried several different credit cards but this keeps happening, and it doesn't work to go into the store because they said they couldn't take my egiftcards there. I called customer service and they had no idea. They said the relevant team will do "an investigation" and call me back when it's complete, but who knows how long that will take. I'm getting ready to go to China to give my cousin the laptop and I got the gift cards just for this purchase. So if I don't get this sorted out soon, I'm stuck with over $900 in gift cards I'll never use. Can someone please help?!

    Good morning rachel87,
It is very kind of you to want to purchase a MacBook Air for your cousin in China, and it sounds like you may have purchase quite a bit in e-gift cards to do so. I can understand how disappointing and frustrating it may be not to be able to complete this purchase before you return. Given this information, I would like to let you know that purchases made with us are intended for use in the United States.
With that said, I was able to locate a couple of canceled orders using the email address you registered with the forum. I am going to reach out to our support teams to see if we can further research the issues behind your order cancelations. Once I have more information for you, I will be sure to reach out to you right away. In the meantime, your patience is greatly appreciated!
    Sincerely,

I want a song purchased on my ipad with my apple id downloaded onto our home mac mini. So i can listen to it via that computer. However the mac is registered to my husbands apple id and it comes up with a message about 90days wait needed or something. What does this mean? And how do I get one measly song downloaded?!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
It sounds like you are trying to change your login in the Tunes store through iTunes on your computer, which you can only do once in 90 days, which you don't need to do for this.

i have a screen with the apple logo on it and a bar underneath it. it has been this way for about an hour now. what does this mean and is there a way to reset the iphone without going into the store? it isnt showing in my computer or on the itunes page.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

The opperating system I am using is 10.7.4, and updating to the latest version currently. Computer is running fine, except that when I did some utility repairs, I got the warning above, and not really sure what do, in regards to repairing it correctly, not just getting the message off of my computer.

  • My MacBook has a grey screen with a folder and a question mark in the middle what does this mean?

My MacBook has a grey screen with a folder and a question mark in the middle what does this mean?

It means a valid system cannot be found. You need to reinstall OS X.
    If you have Snow Leopard:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
If you have Lion or later:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

I've deleted all large files and apps that were taking up room. My computer is down to the bare minimum now.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Have you already verified/repaired the hard disk with Disk Utility? If not, do so.

  • My mom updated her iPhone to iOS7, and now she has my contacts. Does this mean that she has access to all of my photos as well? How can she 'unlink' our phones? Or, is there anyway that I can get my stuff to disappear from her phone? Thanks

My mom updated her iPhone to iOS7, and now she has my contacts. Does this mean that she has access to all of my photos as well? How can she 'unlink' our phones? Or, is there anyway that I can get my stuff to disappear from her phone? We share iTunes account so I think we are both on the same iCloud.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If you are using the same ID as a primary iCloud login, then yes she can see your photos in photostream if you have it enabled.
You can use the same ID for iTunes so you can share all your purchases, but you need different ID's for iCloud.
Unfortunately, the mess caused by sharing the ID, will need to be sorted manually, once you both have your own ID's.

You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘ Apple) keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and it will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Once you are safely connected go to the iPod Summary tab and make sure "manually manage music and videos" is checked:

it means your HD and the software can't find each other, the following article tells how to troubleshoot this issue:
    https://support.apple.com/kb/TS1440
hopefully you have backup of your data since sometimes this means the HD is crashing.
if the article doesn't resolve the issue i would take the mac to apple store or service provider and have it looked at, the following link tells how to find one close to you:

  • The battery icon on my (old) MacBook Pro turned red. Then black. What does this mean?

The battery icon on my (old) MacBook Pro turned red for a few moments, then black. What does this mean?

    penny41,
Thanks, glad it helped you to check your battery status.
Something else to look at would be the cycle count, as you mention that your computer is "ancient". If you have a high number of cycles, it may also be a sign that the battery is tired and possibly nearing it's life span, and may possibly need to be replaced soon. If you see that again you may try a SMC reset to see if that helps, but if it continues you may need a new battery at some point. The battery icon will usually say needs service, or something to that effect.  For the later MBP's Apple claims a life span of up to 1000 cycles, of this also will be dependent on who the battery is used, on the older ones I'm not quite sure what the claims were, and I don't know how old "ancient" in your case actually means.
I provide this for your info, so that you understand what may possibly be occurring.
    I wish you the best.
    SMC reset:
Follow directions for what applies to your machine, a battery you can remove, or a battery you should not remove yourself.
