Trying install os 9.2 on my ibook g3

I bought this white ibook G3 on ebay. I know not too smart. It came without an operating system. I now have os 9.2 to install. I insert my os 9.2 and it seems to boot up, but it only comes to a screen with CD in the back ground and many disc pictures. A window pops up and , in it is "before you
install", and "install pdf", "mac os install", "adobe", "cd
extras", and "utilities". I click on the install and it
pops up another window that states This program cannot
run on your computer. See documentation for more info. I also bought the os 9.2 from somebody and I have no documentation. Ao why can I not run this program on my pc?

Your OS 9.2 CD was designed specifically to support some other Mac model than the one you have, and can't be used on yours. All Macs ship when new with model-specific installer CDs or DVDs. What you need, depending on which iBiook model you bought, is either (a) a retail OS 9.2.1 installer CD, which is sold separately from any Mac, and contains a universal installer that will work on any model capable of booting into 9.2.1, or (b) a duplicate of the disc set that was originally shipped with the iBook.
See your other thread in this forum for advice on identifying your iBook model and learning which option, (a) or (b) above, is the one for you to pursue.

    Which iBook do you have?

Which version of the OS is installed, and which version are you trying to install?
You could try starting up with Startup Manager and see if it will allow you to select the OS X install disc as the startup disk. If so, maybe you can proceed from there. I would recommend repairing the hard drive first since you are evidently having a bit of a problem with it.

  • Installing iLife '08 on a G4 iBook

This iBook has a 1 GHz processor, 1.25 GB of RAM, lots of free space, and is running OS X 10.4.11, all seemingly within the system requirements for iLife '08. When I try to install iLife '08, a message comes up that iMovie won't install because it needs an Intel processor. The installation proceeds, but after it gets to Writing Files 7%, it quits, saying there was an error. I first tried installing iPhoto, which is all I want, and after it didn't work I tried again to install the whole package, minus iMovie. No luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
    Cheers, Peter

    Hi, 1st the bad news...
According to Apple's system requirements iMovie '08 requires at least a PowerPC G5 1.9 GHz or an Intel Processor. G4s are not supported, though Apple sold its last G4-based Computers (iBook G4) 14 months before the release of iLife '08. However, a system hack enables iMovie 7.1 or higher to run on a PowerPC G4.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMovie#Criticismof_iMovie.2708
The good news is that almost everbody likes iMovie 06 HD better anyway...
iMovie 08 was criticised due to a drastic abandonment of some iMovie HD 6 features. New York Times reviewer David Pogue said "iMovie ‘08 is an utter bafflement...[it] is incapable of the more sophisticated editing that the old iMovie made so enjoyable...All visual effects are gone—even basic options like slow motion, reverse motion, fast motion, and black-and-white. And you can’t have more than one project open at a time."
Still, if you want to install it, find that Hack, & maybe use Pacifist...

I'm experiencing a similar problem with an LG Flatron monitor which my MBP no longer recognizes.  I've tried installing all the updates listed above but have not been succesful. Everytime I get a message saying that this software is not supported on my system. Can anyone tell me why I can't install the updates?

    Hello Philly,
I believe that when you reset your ipod(command given from the computer, right?)  touch WHILE the ipod was updating, It cleared the system in the middle of writing files, thus corrupting(equivalent of cutting of in the middle of a sentence) the basic running system.
I suggest you go to an apple store and ask for a technical diagonosis in person. they may offer to help if the problem is fixable. If your ipod is still under warrenty, i would guess it would be free/low cost.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can install a 64-bit Windows 7 or Vista version in your Mac. Make sure you downloaded these drivers > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630 Also, if you have the Snow Leopard DVD you used to upgrade your Mac or the OS X DVD that came with your Mac, you can use it to install the Boot Camp drivers

It's very new... Bought it recently...
Please... I need help to unparticion memory back to original Mac HD and install Boot Camp...
    Thanks...

Below is the paragraph from the instructions. Follow it exactly and then report what happens at each stage.
How you remove Windows from your computer depends on whether you installed
Windows on a second disk partition or on a single-volume disk.
If you installed Windows on a second disk partition:  Using Boot Camp Assistant as
described below, remove Windows by deleting the Windows partition and restoring
the disk to a single-partition Mac OS X volume.
If your computer has multiple disks and you installed Windows on a disk that has only one
partition:  Start up in Mac OS X and use Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder, to reformat it
as a Mac OS X volume.
To delete Windows and the Windows partition:
1  Start up in Mac OS X.
2  Quit all open applications and log out any other users on your computer.
    3  Open Boot Camp Assistant.
4  Select “Remove Windows 7,” and then click Continue.
5  Do one of the following:
a  If your computer has a single internal disk, click Restore.
b  If your computer has multiple internal disks, select the disk with Windows on it,
and then select “Restore to a single Mac OS partition” and click Continue.

So I have an imac that I have had for about 3yrs. About several months ago, it started acting a little strange, it wouldnt pick up the mouse or the keyboard at times even thought they were plugged in properly to the usb port, sometimes both would work sometimes one or the other would work and other times they worked fine. About a month or 2 ago, I went to turn my imac on and it got to the screen where the little circular icon pops up implying it is loading, stayed that way for 2-3min then turned of and turned itself back on and did the same thing, made the apple sound got to the load screen turned of after 2-3min then turned back on, it has been doing that for the past month. What do I do?

    Hi johnc,
I'm sorry to hear that your file didn't convert well for you. Can you please tell me more about the PDF that you're trying to convert? Do you know how it was created? The quality of a conversion depends on the quality of the PDF, and it sounds like the file you have may not include the tagging information that is required to convert that properly into an Excel file. Would you be willing to share that file with me? If so, let me know and I'll send you a private message with my contact details.
    Best,

Just tried installing an update to OSX Snow Leopard.  Prior to trying to update OS, I was running V 10.6.3.  During installation, it locked up.  Although the screen tells me that the installation will be completed in less than one minute, that was two hours ago, and the computer won't permit me to shut it down via the power button, as I get an error sound.  What do I do now?  Help!

Hold the power key till it shuts down, it may take a little while, try holding it thru the warning.
Then if it shuts down restart and open Safari/Preferences, General tab, and set "Save Downloaded Files to:"
Select desktop, if desktop is not available in the the drop down menu, click other, then select Desktop from the column from the on the left.
    Then download this:

This will download the "stand alone installer"
Click on the installer pkg and follow the prompts.
    Hope this helps

  • HT6030 I downloaded Mail Update for Mac OS X 10.5.6 and was told it could not be installed because it was from an unidentified developer.  Tried installing download from MailUpdate & advised the disk did not meet the requirements for update. Hmmmm.

I downloaded Mail Update for Mac OS X 10.5.6 and was told it could not be installed because it was from an unidentified developer.  Tried installing download from MailUpdate & advised the disk did not meet the requirements for update.   Expect it's due to being at 10.9.1.  Mail is still teetering between dysfunctional and non-functional.  Advice?

I'm not sure what "Mail Update for Mac OS X 10.5.6" is. Mac OS X 10.5.6 is Leopard, a system that is quite old at this point. There have not been any Mail updates for Leopard in quite some time. If you are trying to install some old Mail update for Mac OS X 10.5.6 in Mavericks, that won't work.
If you are trying to install the Mavericks Mail update manually, that's not necessary if you have updated through the App Store. If the App Store shows no updates, you don't need this. (The error message doesn't make sense, and may indicate some other problem with your system, assuming that you were downloading this update from Apple's site.)
I'd advise you to start a new topic in the Mavericks forum and describe the problems you are having with Mail. Be sure to include specifics, but try to avoid speculating on causes, as responses that may be related to an inaccurate assumption on your part can cloud the issue.
