Trying Sony DCR-TRV16E as pass-through for VHS to iMovieHD5

Hello,
I've used the Sony DCR-TRV16E as pass-through for VHS to Nero 6 on a PC before without any problems, and Skype on the iBook running OSX 10.4.11 is happy with the camcorder showing the VHS tapes, but iMovie just tells me "Camera No Tape". I've tried to re-insert the FW cable several times and even played a few notes in GarageBand.
Was very happy when I managed to get the format DV-PAL instead of DV-NTSC, but since then I haven't progressed.
The setup is OK for the iBook and Skype, so what is the final magical touch that will enable iMovieHD5 with the iBook in my setup?
Thanks for your help.

Hello Matti,
For the first time in years, I tried to import analog using pass-through in my Panasonic NV-DS 38. iMovie 5 and 6 just says "no tape in camera" (in Swedish) and refuse tom import. iMovie 4 works just fine. The problem is that iMovie 4 runs in Rosetta on an Intel Mac. It seems as BTV/BTV Pro also runs in Rosetta (as the version is created way before any Intel Mac was available).
Do you know if there are any native Intel apps that captures DV?
(By the way, the tape mechanism in the Panasonic is broken, so I can't use the "playback tape" trick, where I suddenly stop the miniDV tape.)

  • Can't enable external monitor using Sony DCR-HC90 as pass-through

I have connected a Sony HC90 camera via firewire and have no problems capturing video (all the transport controls work fine). However, I can't get an external monitor to work through the camera. I have set Video Out to Firewire NTSC and believe I have configured the camera-to -TV connections correctly. When playing back in FCE, I get a canvas playback (should that be showing up?) but nothing on the camera output to the monitor (I also get nothing but a blue screen on the camera LCD).
Is it possible the the DV interface to the camera is one-way with respect to video?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Your suggestion solved it. It works if I chain the camcorder through the FW drive (I didn't realize you could chain firewire).
    Thanks for the help.

  • Automatic pass through for a group

    cs4
it seems that when i am working some of my groups automatically change to "pass though" blending mode. is there a way i can turn this off or is there something that i am doing that is changing it for me? i dont want it to be pass through, and i never select it on purpose. it just does it automatically.

It is the default Blending Mode of groups because one may not want to limit the effect of Adjustment Layers to the pixel content of the group.
If one organizes Adjustments with groups for pixel layers that lie below Normal would be a counterproductive default Blending Mode.
I don’t know if or how one could change the default mode, but it should be easy enough to create an Action (or maybe better a Script) that creates a Group and sets its Blend Mode to Normal and trigger that either from a Configurator Panel or assign it a Keyboard Shortcut.

  • Un-checking "Pass through" for image searching

When I search my hd for an image from iPhoto, the "Pass through" box remains grayed out and checked. Is there any way to un-check this box? In other folders, I have the option to check and un-check, only not when I search the hd, which is my preferred searching method.

    Dear Alexandra,
Other processes to consider might be to manipulate a row or column of pixels at a time. There are IMAQ Vision functions that will allow you to extract selected rows and columns (just in the same way as you can with regular data arrays). The extracted column or row (line profile) is effectively a 1D array of pixels (ranging from 0 to 255 if you image is 8-bit). By taking this approach you may be able to make use of the polymorphic nature of many of LabVIEW's core VIs (numeric operators, comparison VIs and so on).
This approach should avoid the need to examine each individual pixel within your image. If you find that this approach is not suitable or I have misunderstood your question, could you supply some more detailed information as to how
you need to "prove the pixel values"?

  • New AME "pass-through" for .h264

I have a question regarding Adobe Media Encoder's new "pass-through"capabilities with H.264. I am working on a long documentary. I have hours of footage shot on Canon H.264 .mov files. and I have .WAV audio recorded separately. The audio is usually one clip covering several video clips. Ideally I would sync the files in PP, get the audio levels correct, cut out all of the unusable bits and export as a fresh .h264 file that I will then take into Prelude for text transcription and creating sub clips. Then back into PP for final editing. Will the new AME's handling of .h264 files keep my video from being recompressed? Is  there better way that I might not have thought of? Thanks in advance, Chip

Is  there better way that I might not have thought of?
    I think so.
Skip Prelude and just do it all in PP.

  • Configuring pass-through for specific e-mails

    Hi all,
(messaging version 7u3, on Solaris sparc)
I have MTA which would works as "mail router" for several other systems. One MTA should do rewriting rules in headers, some sieve filtering and also catching e-mails which comply basic criteria and assign them to the channel. That criteria are just e-mail headers To: and From:.
    Example:
    From: <any>@acme.com
    To: <any>@siroe.com
So.. when e-mails are comming from acme.com domain and to siroe.com I'd need to somehow catch these e-mails and assigned them to channel tcp_from_acme-daemon.
Any clue what should I search for in wiki / docs or other source?
    Many thanks,
    Tom

There are some ways to do this sort of thing. But first we should clarify what you are trying to do and why.
In general, it does not make sense to assign a destination channel based on a source address. The destination channel is all about how mail gets where it is going, not where it came from. Do you really want to cause all mail that comes from a given source to be enqueued to a specific destination channel? What is that channel supposed to do with them?
You can use the $M or $N meta-characters to cause a rewrite rule to only succeed ($M) or fail ($N) if the message is coming from a specific source channel. See:

You did not mention how you were connecting your camera to the Mac. Your camera came with a USB connector cable, not a Firewire cable. The USB is only good for transferring still digital images, not video. Make sure you are using the Firewire. If you are using the Firewire, there is no reason for the camera not to be recognized unless you have a bad cable or a bad connection.

  • X240 - is there audio pass-through when using a miniDP to HDMI?

I have an X240, which I love, but now that I've cut my cable cord and am going with Netflix and other on-line streaming options, I'd like to be able to view my streaming programs on my TV.  Can I use a cable or adapter to go from the miniDP (on the X240) to my HDMI (on my TV) and get audio as well as video?  I understand my laptop needs to have an "audio pass-through" for that to work --- I don't know what it is, but I'd like to know if this one's got it.  I bought the laptop online in Dec 2013, if that makes a difference.
(Yes, I could stream Netflix from a gadget like Chromecast, but that will only get me Netflix Canada, whereas using a VPN on my computer I can get Netflix from other countries too.)

refreshing this discussion!   I've tried a mini DP to HDMI dongle with an HDMI-HDMI cable to the TV - and I get video but no audio.  My computer recognizes the TV as present as as audio playback device, but no audio is transmitted through TV or computer. when it's plugged in.  Of course I still get audio from the computer's speakers when it's not plugged in

  • Encoding Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) sound in MP4 files using AC3 pass-through

Looking for an application that will encode Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3) sound in an .mp4 container using AC3 pass-through for playing videos with surround sound on ATV.
Handbrake is out of the question because I run Tiger. The Tiger version cannot do AC3 pass-through.
Visual Hub is no longer available.
    Any other options?

You may need Apple's MPEG2 QT plugin as well for MPEGStreamclip.
Also, consider if running windows in parallels/Boot Camp etc that there's a windows version, and possibly a linux version.
VisualHub code was released open source - Google FilRedux and PunyVid (iSquint derivative). Not tried either though.

  • Hi, what's the best way to transfer content from a Sony dcr-sx31 to an iMac

Hi looking for some help please. I want to transfer video from my Sony dcr-sx31 to an iMac for editing and creating DVDs. I've heard that this is not straight forward so hoping someone  can give me the best approach or some top tips please

Thanks for the update. The labeling around here is about as counter-intuitive as they could make it. This forum is for original iMacs with  PowerPC ("PPC") processors that were made from 1998 to late 2005. All iMacs since then have Intel processors--very different beasties--so they get a separate forum here:
    iMac (Intel)
That where you find your gurus when you get your new iMac. Typically, forums for older models like this get less traffic and therefore fewer eyeballs than forums for newer products,
However, you may get faster response for contacting Sony. I recall their Mac support being hit or miss depending on the product line.
    for editing and creating DVDs
Also note that new iMacs come with iLife BUT iLife no longer includes the DVD creator program iDVD on preinstalled bundles. Apparently people have been able to get it by calling Apple and protesting that there computer did not ship with all the components that are in the iLife Boxed set. YMMV

  • Poor quality when importing from sony dcr-sr58

    Dear All
I've got a sony dcr-sr58e video camera, and for ages the quality has been poor, once i've, a) imported the footage from the camera into imovie then b) from there to idvd then c) watching it back on a tv
I thought it was just me being fussy, but friends and colleagues have noticed that its quality is comparable with an old vhs video camera!
I put all the settings to the max (high quality etc....)on the camera but to no effect, and have checked the settings on imovie
The sony support have stated that its probably a problem with imovie (which it doesn't seem to be)
Fot the record i'm running OSX 10.6.8  with imovie version 9.0.4
If anyone else has had a similar problem and solve dit i'd be very grateful to hear
    Thanks
    Kelly

Hello kellyfromkenley, Depending on how you move the video or share the video from iMovie to iDVD it can make a big difference. One way is to go to the Share Menu > Share to iDVD. But the better is to Share to Media Browser instead. Try this:
Go back to iMovie and open your Project in Project Library.
Go to Share Menu > Share to Media Browser
Choose the Large size and let it run until it finishes
    Quit iMovie and open iDVD.
In iDVD click on the Media Button, then click on the Movies button and look for your project under the iMovie star icon in the Media Browser itself.
Drag that project icon into the iDVD project window and burn another disk
I think you'll see an increase in the visual quality using this method.
The reason this has an effect on the visual quality is there's a whole different set of operations performed on the video when you first Share to Media Browser. The side effect of those changes in steps is a much better looking DVD from your iMovie project.

  • Does the Sony DCR-HC32 camcorder work with Final Cut Express 3.5?

I was just wondering if the Sony DCR-HC32 camera model works for the Macbook or Final Cut Express 3.5. I am really interested in getting the Macbook for video editing. Thanks
Compaq Presario 700   Windows XP Pro

    Yes.
Sony calls it iLink, Apple calls it firewire and the techos call it IEEE 1394.
All are one and the same.
You will require a 4-6 pin iLink cable that can be obtained from just about any computer or electrical store. Get a good quality sheilded cable no longer than 2 metres or shorter if you setup allows.

  • WAAS pass-through connections

I gather that a connection through a WAE can be in pass-through for one of 3 reasons :
    - the remote WAE is not detected through the 3 way TCP handshake (conn type 'PT No Peer'
    - the connection already exists (conn type 'PT In Progress')
    - the connection is set to pass-through as it has hit a policy which puts it in pass-through mode (conn type ??)
In the output of the 'show tfo conn list' command, what is the 'Conn Type' for a connection that is being passed through because of a pass through policy ?
    Thanks
    Nigel

    Nigel,
    The potential pass-through reasons are:
    PT App Cfg
    PT Dst Cfg
    PT_Glb Cfg
    PT Overload
    PT In Progress
    PT PE Int Error
    PT Dyn Bypass
    PT No Peer

    PT Rjct Resources
    PT Asym Client
