Trying take whole offline db backup : Error no free space

Hi,
In our Quality system I am trying take whole offline db backup ( with out redo logs). In the log file found the error saying there is no free space in the Drive:I:\orace\SID\sapbackup.minimum 27246.161mb( i think it is 27GB) required. But actually  total drive (I) space is 59.5GB and free space is 59.3GB. Suggest me how to resolve this.
windows os, oracle 9.2.0  SAP: ECC5.0.
one more thing... our QAS db is running in No Archive log mode. In db12 I do observe that overview of redolog files not yet backed up are 300.when I schedule only redolog backup in DB13 i am getting error message no offline redolog files found for processing. but in db12 showing 300redo log files. How can I take redo log backup. Is this bcoz of db is in Noarchive log mode. plz suggest.  In initsid.ora file   parameter is showing logarchive_start= true. but in SQL> i queried the log_mode , i got  Noarchive log. Is there any way to change the db  to Archive mode.( if we bring db from open status to mount , we can change the db log mode) without downing the SAP.
Please suggest.
thanks

You can take the backup on  External Backup device like Tape Or Disk. To do so you have to change the below parameters in init<SID>.sap profile file.
backup_type = offline
backup_dev_type = Disk (Default---> Tape)
backup_root_dir = <Path For Backup Directory>  (Default --->$SAPDATA_HOME/sapbackup)
OR Only Change the parameter
backup_root_dir =Give <drive:\directory> path on which the required sapce is available. (Default --->$SAPDATA_HOME/sapbackup)
one more thing... our QAS db is running in No Archive log mode. when I schedule only redolog backup in DB13 i am getting error message no offline redolog files found for processing. but in db12 showing 300redo log files. .
As your databse is running on No Archive Log Mode (As per SAP Best Pactices your database should run in archive log mode) the offline redolog files are not generated so dont worry about this error.
Experts please correct me if I am wrong.

As suggested before change the Archive Log mode using BR*tools & Restart is require to take effect.

  • Importing error - HDD free space lost?!!

    Hey,
So I had around 9 GB free space on my macbook and, using iPhoto, imported photo's from a camera with a max space of 4GB (it says it had used up around 3.6GB on the card). Near the end of the importing process an alert that I'm running out of disc space appeared, and Finder said i had only 400KB free space left, even though it should have only decreased to a minimum of 5GB!
Then all my applications started to freeze and I was forced to force quit iPhoto before the import had completed and turn off my laptop. After restarting it, there seems to be only 3GB free space left and no photo's have been imported from the camera!
Where have 6GB gone?! Are the photo's filed somewhere and I just can't find them?! And if so, why has it taken up 6GB instead of 3.6GB?!
    Thanks in advance!

You're running an overcrowded disk and that's very dangerous.
So I had around 9 GB free space on my macbook
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on. Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
    Then:
imported photo's from a camera with a max space of 4GB (it says it had used up around 3.6GB on the card
Your assumption that importing 3.6 gigs of material only uses 3.6 gigs is erroneous. In the process of importing temporary files are created and removed as the copying process goes on - that's that whole "temporary files and virtual memory" mention above - so the process of copying your files takes more space than the final requirement, so your disk fills up and then
Then all my applications started to freeze and I was forced to force quit iPhoto before the import had completed and turn off my laptop.
    Now when you restart:
Where have 6GB gone?! Are the photo's filed somewhere and I just can't find them?! And if so, why has it taken up 6GB instead of 3.6GB?!
It's taken up that space because of the temporary files and so on. And they're there still because the disk is so full the operating system can't properly clean up after the failed import.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do. Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.

  • Disk Utility - strange error - enough free space

I am trying to burn DVD-R using Disk Utility and it's giving me error after I press 'Burn" saying "The disk inserted doesn't have enough free space".
I inserted 4.7GB DVD-R drive and my original file size is 4.36 GB and the disk image version is 3.82GB.
Why would it say not enough free space? What am I missing here.
Thanks for any help. I have lot's of my own DVD-R version movies and I am trying to copy that to DVD-R.
    I appreciate any help..

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The true space of a blank DVD is not 4.7 GB based on 1024 MB GBs, but based on 1000 x 1000 x 1000 Bytes. As a result, when the original file size might be 4.36 GB it might not be enough. I've found you really have to go under 4.34 GB to fit a DVD to the brim, and sometimes less depending on the quality of the DVD media.

  • Trying to locate a large backup file to clear space on hard drive

A while ago I backed up my Mac Book Pro to an external hard drive through time machine.  I purchased a Time Capsale and when I went to change my backup data to that device I stored the 300+ gb of back up on my computer as a just in case place.  Everything worked out and I a trying to clear that space up on my computer, but I can not seem to locate it.  As you can see in the picture below, I am being told that I have a ton of space being taken up by back up data.  Any ideas on how i can locate it?  FYI, I have already used omni sweep and cannot locate it as well as created a smart folder, which I used to try a narrow down files larger than 1 gb and nothing showed up.  Much thanks!

This may find it.  I obviously can't replacte the problem on my system disk but I can can guess how to find it on yours.
Click on the system disk image (Macintosh HD) on your desktop and the command-F.  Tell it so search on "This Mac".  Search for Backups.backupdb.  Then option-click Show in Enclosing Folder.

i want to take full offline disk backup on mount point /bakoffline with the help of brtools.
how can i do this. plz help.

    Regards
    Karan

    Hi All,
I become successful in taking offline backup, but I got following problems
    1. Unable to take offline backup when SAP is running.
    - Brtools is unable to stopdb
    2. Unable to take online backup
    -  log is showing
    "cp /oracle/SID/sapdata2/sr3_1/sr3.data1 /sapbackup/bectbizf/sr3.data1 failed"
I changed ownership of my /sapbackup directory from root to oraSID:dba, I provided full permission to this folder also.
I tried to execute above command manually then system saying invalid  parameter line..even I can't copy this data file to tmp directory also. I tried to copy by root, sidadm and orasid but no success.
Finally I stopped SAP, then I executed offline backup...then brtool started the backup activity.
But this process doesn't make sence while considering first problem.
I am unable to track...why brtools is unable to stopdb for offline backup and why I am unable to take online backup.
In my solman (which is based on windows), I am able to take online / offline backup by using brtools without error, but in Development (on AIX) its nt happenin
Any more guidline will be very helpful.
    Thanks in Advance.

  • Insufficient free space error

    Hello.
I try to install EHP4 on ERP 6.0
I have x86_64 windows server with two partitions: drive c: and large drive mounted to c:\oracle\SID
Installation interrupts at PREP_GENCHECKS/SPACECHK_OPT with message
ERROR> Insufficient free space in the database as follows:
Create TABLESPACE PSAPSR3701           with 64637 MB
    - it cannot find enough free space on drive c:
But tablespace should be created under c:\oracle\SID, and there is a lot of free space.
Can I skip this delirious check of c:\ ?

    Hi,
Please ensure your brtools is at the latest
    version as per note 12741.
If the problem still persists, you can set the trace level for brspace
to 11 as per note 29321 and re-run the phase.
Usually in sap upgrade this is related to Oracle dba_free_space not the
system free space, same theory should apply to EHP install. If you have
an Oracle dba you may ask him to check the data dictionary view
dba_free_space and available extents for each tablespace.
Also please review carefully points within Note 716377 - Problem
analysis in the upgrade: SPACECHK phases ?

  • I/o device error when trying to use windows 7 backup to an external hard drive

I have a Windows 7 operating system.  The computer was running very slowly so I used the systems diagnostics at startup and received short DST failed with a failure id of 6C2NXD-53Q713-XD002J-60RL03 for the hard disk test,  the start up test, the
run-in test.  Each test showed memory test passed and smart check passed.  In researching the error it states that my hard drive is failing or perhaps some program is causing the error.  I tried removing some programs I thought may be the issue.
     Didn't work.
I have tried using the Windows 7 backup but the backup reached about 67% then states backup not completed i/o device error.  I am trying to back up my files to a brand new Toshiba USB 3.0 & 2.0 external hard drive with 1.0 TB/To.
I have gone to start then computer and it shows the device.  It also shows some files on it.  The backup fails when it it trying to do a system image as far as I can tell by reading the progress details.  The Toshiba device says that it is
working fine and is already formatted to NTFS.
What else should I check or do?  My computer is also now popping up with a window telling me a backup is needed before the hard drive fails.  It pops up with this message at the same time I am trying to do the backup (the backup is already processing).
    Thank  you

    Hi,
Have you performed a disk check on your PC? More details, please check here:
How to Run Disk Check in Windows 7
Regarding the i/o device error, have you received any specific error IDs like
    0x8007045D?
In addition, please also take a verify to see if the external disk is Advanced Format Disks(Some types may not compatible with Windows 7):
For example Run fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo f:
     to check the
    bytes per physical sector
    of the external disk drive.
    More information, please see:
An update that improves the compatibility of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 with Advanced Format Disks is available

  • SAP  Whole Offline Backup

    Hi team,
Here we are working on Windows 2003 server with oracle 10g as database. Here i have a requirement of taking an offline backup with SAPMMC stopped. I need to take backup to an external harddisk which is of 35 GB.My Whole dtabse online + redo log back up is working fine from db13 t.code.
Can some one kindly tell me what is the process for tacking a whole databse offline backup to an external harddisk or local harddisk with the help of BRTOOLs.
    Please help.

    Dear Chiranjeevi,
To take an offline backup below are some points
    1) Login as <SID>ADM
    2) You have change the below parameter in init<SID>.SAP  profile.
    backup_type = offline
    backup_dev_type = Disk
    backup_root_dir = <Path_Backup_Folder>
    3) Stop SAP from MMC.
    4) Stop the database from SQLPLUS.(In windows youe have
to stop the database from SQLPLUS).
    5) Stop Listener.
    6) Start BR*tools
    7) Enter choice 4 Databse Copy & Backup
    8) Enter Choice 1 Database Backup.

  • Backup error due to System Writer missing (enumeration of system32 printer dlls takes too long)

    Hi,
On a Windows 2008 R2 we get a Windows Backup error while backupping System State (event id: 5, error code: '2155347997').
We tried *ALL* solutions found on Internet regarding the same issue (and we also applied the suggested hotfix KB2807849) but without success. So we DIGGED INTO VSS to see what is happening.
***1) First we saw that an USB printer had a problem and this resulted in
hundreds of entries in the following registry keys:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StillImage\DeviceNameStore\Canon MF6500 Series #100010]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StillImage\DeviceNameStore\Canon MF6500 Series #100011]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StillImage\DeviceNameStore\Canon MF6500 Series #100012]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StillImage\DeviceNameStore\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}\79590]
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StillImage\DeviceNameStore\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}\79591]
***2) We completely removed ALL drivers/devices related to that printer (now the DeviceNameStore is empty and
pnputil -e returns no driver related to the printer)
***3) Using process monitor we saw that during vssadmin list writers the system is searching for the DLLs related to that printer AND SEEMS CAUGHT IN AN ENDLESS LOOP: this is an excerpt of the scan:
    09:56:34,5205954    svchost.exe    324    RegSetValue    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\services\VSS\Diag\System Writer\IDENTIFY (Enter)    SUCCESS

    ... and so on
.... THE SAME FILES ARE REPEATED HUNDREDS OF TIMES!!!! ...
It seems that somewhere there is a catalog of system files which still contains the references to the (same) files used by the hundreds of devices that WERE present in the DeviceNameStore (see point ***1 above, but now it is empty),  and the System
Writer continues to search/enumerate those files and fails.
How can I fix it ? Is there a way to "reset" the System Writer and "rebuild" (???) the correct files that it should backup? (in order to complete a successfull system state backup)
    Can you help me?
    Thank you in advance.
    EDIT: some additional (useful?) information:
    * we also ran chkdsk /f C:
    * sfc /scannow completes without errors
    * in the vssadmin list writers the "system writer" is missing (but - as said above - when we run it the associated process repeatedly search printer dll files in the System32 directory)
    * perhaps those file are contained is some filemaps catalog ?!? Is there a way to "reset" them?!?
    ***EDIT 2***:
I found that the reference to those missing DLLs are in ***C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.ev3*** but if I move the file away the System Writer continues not being listed in vssadmin list writer (though the vssadmin command complete very fast).
    This is what is happening:

... !!!!!GET CAUGHT IN AN ENDLESS LOOP!!!!!!!! (System Writer probably ends for timeout)...
Is there a way to rebuild/modify that file C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.ev3
Perhaps I can delete the catroot2 directory?

    Hi,
Please check if there are number of files in Temporary ASP.NET folders under "C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework". If so, clear these files then restart the server to check the results.
In additional, you could try the steps below to troubleshoot the issue:
    1. Give NETWORK SERVICE Read permissions on COM+ Event System.
    a. Open the registry editor and navigate to HKLM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventSystem.
    b. Right click on the EventSystem and then select ‘Permissions’
    c. Click on ‘ADD’ button and then type in ‘NETWORK SERVICE’ and give it READ permission.
    d. Reboot the machine and then run the 'VSS admin list writers' to check if it shows up the 'system writer'.
    2. If the step 1 doesn't work then move the contents of C:\Windows\winsxs\FileMaps to an alternate location. Then run the command 'VSS admin list writers' to check if it shows up the 'system writer'.  Is so, some of those files maybe corrupted and we
need to identify them and replace the files from a healthy machine.

I had a free trial of Lightroom 5 and tried to purchase it, but page errors blocked me from being able to do this. I then got a free trial of Adobe CC.  At first I saw my old photos, then the whole thing went down, and now I have a new Lightroom 5 trial, and none of my edited photos.  Can I retrieve all these photos from my first trial?

Yes, you have to find the catalog file from the CC trial (use your operating system to search for it, the file name ends with .LRCAT), and then once you find it, open the LR5 trial and open the catalog you just found using File->Open Catalog
