Trying to accurately revolve a circular text path 360 degrees! Pls help!

Hi,
I'm new to AE so this maybe very stupid, but I have created a circular text path so that may text revolves around the edge of a 2D circle, but I want to rotate it from where it begins from to end up in exactly the same place. Trouble is, I seem to have to use margins to get it to run all the way around the circle, as the rotate option means the whole circle revolves around my anchor point - which is not central in my screen and I can't seem to get it so. Trying to move the anchor point just moves my circle further out and not the anchor point. It's driving me potty, but I'm not sure how many margins = a 360 rotate?! If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Many thanks,
Rebecca

I'm not sure I am following you . If you use a circular mask as your text path and animate the first margin the text will spin around the circle like the circle was a wheel. That seems to be what you want to do. If you want to rotate the layer then the anchor point and the center of the path must be in the same spot. You can get there using guides or snapping. If simply animating the first margin does not get you what you want then please explain further and send us a screenshot.

  • 3D Path Layer Question - Pls Help

To get you up to speed, I have a large composition with all elements set up as 3D layers.  These layers are all in different positions/depths within the comp.
I have a complicated camera animation in place to move about the individual objects.  What I'm trying to do is create a path that will in-turn be a 3D layer and would like to be able to select individual points of that path and adjust the z depth accordingly.
I need it to snake it's way in and out of this pre-existing 3D comp.
The idea is to use Trapcode's 3D stroke to animate the line moving along, however once I make the path into a 3D object, I can't seem to edit the individual points depth.
Is this even possible?  Is there another method with AfterEffects I can try.
Like I said, I've already got the elments and camera move plotted, I need to plot a path in space around these elements.
ANY input is greatly appreciated as I've been at this all day and I initially thought it would be something simple.
    Thanks to all.

You're  throwing different unrelated things in the same pot. 3D Stroke operates on masks, not paths. Masks are aalways tied to the layer and since AE layers have no dimensionality, always stay flat. Hence what you wanna do is not possible with the method you chose. If you want a stroke in 3D, you'd have to create a genuine 3D path with a 3D Null object or light, then have a 3D particle system like Particular render the trail by defining the 3D layer as the emitter.

This may help, it allows you to reset the application, it also may be worth clearing out the app store cache and temp files.

  • Cannot Receive Calls and Text Every Morning! Pls Help!!

    Hi all,
I am new here. I registered cus i am facing irritating problem with the phone. I dunno if anyone else is facing the same problem.
I cannot receive any calls or sms everyday morning.
My friends told me that it went directly to the voicemail.
However everything back to normal when i make a call out from my phone (basically just need to dail out a number, ppl dun even have to pick up the call!), and it will receive the sms that it missed immediately.
Actually I noticed the fact is that if i dun touch my phone for more than 3 or 4 hours, it went automatically to 'sleep', and it stop receiving calls.....
So now i have to call my landline every morning to active the phone which is so annoying! And my friends went mad too cus they couldn't find me as i was like disappeared.
I don't think its the problem with my carrier cus it all went fine until i updated it in Jan. Its now v5.0.0832.
I have searched other forums and there are some ppl having the similar problem, some said its cus of the "do not disturb" setting, but its no longer exist. So the problem is still unsolved for many others.
Not sure if os 6 is gonna fix it cus there is one personsaid that he still has the prolem although he updated it to 6.
Please please please! Can anyone help me??!!  otherwise i may have to get a new phone,  i am a bit regret now,  i should have bought a iphone4 instead of bb!

This is something you should bring up with your wireless service provider.

  • PC guy trying to backup all Wife's iPhotos, crashes...pls help.

    Hi Everyone,
My Wife is camar crazy and shes got almost over 100Gb of photos in iPhoto. I need to back everything up...
I've read all the topics on simply moving the iPhoto folder to the external, which works. Only thing is it crashes after about 2/3 GIG's of transfer. I've resorted to copying each folder from within iPhoto manually across, which works perfectly... but it is EXTREMELY time consuming.
    Is there a better solution?
    Thanks

Make sure the disk your aiming to is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex - and much better:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate

  • Circular 3d text path

Hi everyone, I'm just getting started with the new Motion 3.0 and I have a few questions of how to achieve a particular effect. What I am trying to do is similar to the template called Barrel Turns, where the text curves in on a 3d path, with each character curving along with it.
I've tried to create the effect on my own using a Motion Path behavior and applying it to a curved circle. It worked well enough to move my text along the circle's path, but the entire layer moved together; the text moved in a solid block instead of turning character by character.
The final result I'm trying to achieve is for the text to come in a straight line from the right, to make a slight curve, and stop in the center of the screen.
I would appreciate any help that you guys can offer. Motion seems to be such an awesome program. It should be able to handle this simple move.

    Hey Bill,
The Motion Path behavior doesn't have an "Affect Subobjects" option, so it will always treat a text layer as a single object.
There is a way to accomplish what you want, though. Similar to how Motion Path now accepts shapes as input, so does a text object's text-on-a-path functionality. Just go into the Layout subtab for the text, in the Inspector. Set the Layout Method to 'Path' and the Path Shape to 'Geometry'. I recommend disabling 'Align to Path'.

  • Align objects to text paths?

    Hi all,
I don't know if this is possible at all in Illustrator, but I want to align objects to text paths. Look at the following example to get an idea what I mean.
I start with something like a circular hierarchy, that I get as an output from another program. These are only lines and text. Now I want to add a flag behind the text. This flag should have the same orientation as the text path.
As this hierarchy is actually pretty big (this is only a snippet), I don't want to rotate all the flags manually. I tried to do it manually with the below example, but it still doesn't looks right...
Does anyone know, if there is a proper method to rotate the flags according to the orientation of the text paths in Illustrator? Any help is much appreciated!

I don't know of more automated way  than doing it manually. However you can make the rotation precise using the smart guides. Assuming the text is live (not outlines), this is how I would do it:
Make sure on the View menu, there is a checkmark in front of Smart Guides (Ctrl+U)
With a text object selected, pick the Rotate tool (R), find, and click the anchor point of the text object which will be at the left bottom side if the text is left aligned. The Smart Guides will show an "Anchor" label when the mouse cursor is over it.
Then, away from the Anchor point, click and drag the path of the text object to rotate it until aligned horizontally or vertically to the artboard which will be indicated by the Smart Guides displaying a straight horizontal or vertical line.
Hold Ctrl key down temporarily to switch to a selection tool and click with it the flag you want to rotate.
Release the Ctrl key to get back to the Rotate tool and press the Enter key on your keyboard to get the Rotate dialog.
Change the Angle value to positive if it is negative and negative if it is positive and press the OK button. On a pc you can do all of this step with three keyboard keys instead of the mouse if you press first the Home key, then Delete or Minus for changing the value to positive or negative, and finally press Enter to apply and close the dialog. The flag is now rotated with the same angle as the original orientation of the text.
Cut (Ctrl + X) the flag, and Undo (Ctrl + z) a few times until you go back to the original orientation of the text.
Paste (Ctrl + V) to get a copy of the rotated flag and position it in place. I can see that your skills with position the flags are much better than aligning the orientation and I don't think you need more complicated way of doing it.

  • How does one convert a text path back into a line path in Illustrator CS 5?

The previous answer to the same question in Nov 2009 does not work for me. That was to copy and paste in front. I've tried every permutation of copy and paste; I renamed the path to path. It looks like a path when I add stroke, but it does not behave like one.  I can't cut it or join it to any other path. It remembers it's text path status.
    I'm running OS X 10.7.5.
    Thank you.

The plus sign in this case means that another selection tool is being used called Group Selection Tool. You can pick it from the Tools panel if you click and hold the mouse on the Direct Selection Tool (white pointer) and then you don't have to hold Option when clicking with it. If you hold Option while using this tool will switch to the Direct Selection Tool (white pointer without the plus sign)
Once there is text on the path. The option-click seems a reliable solution.
Shouldn't make a difference with or without text on the path.

An easier option may be to select the path via the Layer Panel, then copy it.
Scott, there is no way I can select the path without its text aspect via the Layers Panel in CS5

  • How do I add circular text to an image?

I have successfully cropped/masked a circular image, and now need to add circular text around it. How do I accomplish that?

    Christine,
Basically, you create a circle, then use the Path Type Tool (ClickHold the Type Tool to get to it) and click with it on the circle where you want the typing to start, then start typing.
You may create the circle independently and place it, or you may open the Group in the Layers palette, then click the Clipping Mask, then Object>Path>Offset Path by the distance you want between the mask and the circle, then drag the new circle up so it gets out of the group.
You may wish to use the Paragraph palette (which is with the Character palette) to select Align Center and to click the topmost Anchor Point of the circle to have the type symmetrical from the top.
You may adjust the Type relative to its circle, and thereby its distance from the mask by changing the Baseline Shift (down is negative); it is in the Character Options. You may need to tick Show Options in the flyout.
Terms are shown when you hover.

  • Join text paths?

Can someone tell me if it's possible and how to join text
    paths.
I mean if i have two letters say E and T, i convert them to paths then
delete a section from the right of the E
and from the left of the T so that they can join up,
then i take the two endpoints of path that i want to join then go to
    object>path>join, i get the message:
"to join, you must select two open endpoints. If they are not on the same path,
they can not be on text paths nor inside graphs, and if both of them are
grouped, they must be in the same group"
i did select 2 open endpoints and i tried ungrouping the text but i still get the same message.
    Any ideas?
    Daniel

    Daniel,
Probably, the upper border of the parts of the two letters to be joined are aligned, and the lower border is not.
Presuming sans serif letter, in many cases you will obtain the cleanest look if you:
    1) Type>Create Outlines,
    2) Ungroup and Object>Compound Path Release,
    3) With the Scissors Tool cut at the far corners of both upper and lower border,
    4) DirectSelect and Join both to rebuild the joining part.

  • Editing a text path

I am trying to edit a text path and trying to wrap it around an oval shape. I am having to work with the Radius and path off set but my main problem is trying to actually see the path when in the canvas. I have tried double clicking the text with the text tool and also with the selection tool. I need to manually get to the path to make it easier to mould around the shape.

I am having problems with getting the text path to sit right with the shape. I have tried the Geometry path setting and thought that using the shape I want to wrap the text around as the shape source would help me but when I select that the text just all collects together as a white blob.

  • Add background colour to text path?

    Hello,
I have a circular path on which I'm typing text. I have 2 questions:
    1) How can I 'extend' the typing area of the circle to allow me to type on various points of the path? I've adjusted the 'markers' using the direct selection tool, but when I press tab or space, the original text moves
    2) Is it possible to colour the background of text, in such a path?
I've attatched a screenshot, if you need more, please let me know. As you can see, at the top of the path is one blue line where the text starts, however I want to type in 3 places.
    Thank you

Look if you keep adding criteria no one willb.e able to give you any real help and you have to follow instructions you cannot interpret the steps to try and simplify any thing.
You clearly have two pths with different radii so it was supposed be on path. But besides that the methd I suggested is not going to work with so may cities or other text items.
Here this what you do but follow the intructions.
    1. You create your cicle path and copy and paste in front, for past in front the keyboard short cut is command f or control f depending on your platform.
    2. You mke the top one into a text path and paste the spces as per the video I posted.
    3. You type your cities
    4. Lock the text path
    5. give the path below the text path a stroke to the desired weight
    6. then scale path with the stroke so that the text is aligned to the center of the stroke
    7. then switch to the scissor tool and cut the path wityh the stroke so you can delete the unwanted portions
    You get this
0r this if you change the colors which can bee done after cutting the path.
You should know this is rather basic and probably why no one else came forward you should look at some tutorials on Adobe TV and get a better feel for the program.

  • HELP....why do I keep getting "Not Delivered" errors when trying to send a Group MMS text message?

I am trying to send a Group MMS text. There are 6 recipients. I hit "send" and the progress bar goes almost to the very end, and then hangs up....and eventually I get a "Not Delivered" error message. I click on the "i" icon and it says "your message was not sent. Tap try again to send this message." I've done that time and time again, and the same thing happens. What am I doing wrong?

Try sending it as a regular text message... turn off iMessage.
