Trying to activate genius crashes itunes 10....help!

Hi all,
I'm trying to activate genius- since I moved from pc to mac and re synced my ipod, I've never been able to use genius.
But every time I try - either from itunes or going through my account- I get to the terms and conditions, accept them- then I get the spinning rainbow of death....
I have my library on an external drive.....could it be this, or perhaps something to do with going from pc to mac?

Same thing...Win7 64 bit crashes. I have deleted the "extras.itdb" and "Genius.itdb" files a few times...trying to get this going again...but it consistently crashes. Using version 10.4.1 of itunes.

All the topics are relevant but this one tends to be the most common culprit:
Authorize using the correct account name
The items you are trying to play might have been purchased using a different iTunes Store account. To determine which account was used to purchase an item, follow these steps:
Select a purchased song in your library and choose File > Get Info.
Click the Summary tab. Note the Account Name that appears in the list. This is the account name (Apple ID) you will need to use when authorizing your computer to play this purchase.
Note: The account name that appears is the one you used when purchasing the item and does not change if the account name (Apple ID) changes.
If you've authorized the Apple ID that is shown in the Summary tab, you can check the purchase history for that Apple ID from Store > View My Account. If your purchase history does not reflect the purchase of the items in your iTunes library, consider any other Apple ID you may have created, and authorize the computer for your additional Apple ID.
If you forgot the password to one of your accounts, you can recover it using Apple's password-recovery website.

If you have the latest version of iTunes and the error code is still happening, then the next thing is to remove the SC Info folder on your computer. Check out the article below on how to do that.

Genius crashes iTunes 8

After looking thru the discussions I don't see this one anywhere:
If the GENIUS is on, then whatever I try to do in iTunes 8 that involves creating a window CRASHES iTunes.
Once I turned OFF Genius iTunes works ok.
PROBLEM HERE<<<<</div>
Now when I try to TURN ON Genius it CRASHES iTunes 8.
**I have NEVER USED GENIUS. Not signed in to it, not connected or anything**
Basically I select GENIUS from the playlists on the left and get the "What is Genius" screen and click the "Turn on Genius" button and after about 15 seconds iTunes crashes.

Genius is a lovely feature, but it requires some URGENT attention... I found out that it crashes only at those times when iTunes is connecting to perform other tasks (i.e. downloading Podcasts; redirecting the user to a Store link, etc.) If iTunes wants to update Genius at the same time, it'll just flop out. Today it did so more than two times, so the application crash manager offered me to reset iTues's settings. I did so, then tried again. it flopped out once more, so, upon re-launch, I decided to cancel the Genius update. Then I let it finish all of the other store-related activities (updating four podcasts). After that, I forced a Genius update down its throat, and iTunes decided to go on with it this time. The funny thing is that this issue has been around ever since iTunes 8.0.0. We're now on 8.0.1, and still nothing's happened. I'd like Apple to solve this issue, as there's really no alternative to iTunes on the Mac, and I also happen to like iTunes the best even if you DO count in the other players that might exist... My library is really small, btw... Only 10GB in total (including AudioBooks, video's and podcasts) If I were to only mention the Music (Genius only sends whatever is in the Music section), it's only 7GB. I would really love this crash to get out of the app, as things like this remind me to Windows too much... Apart from this tiny issue, my iMac is really working PERFECTLY. Well, there's the infamous N73 Bluetooth issue, but that really seems to be on Nokia's side...

I was trying to activate my CS3 and got help from chat until he said it was an installing issue. The application opens and then closes unexpectedly.

I just got a new mac and I'm trying to download my Adobe CS3 onto it. I was able to download and then I tried to activate it. I entered the CS3 serial number and then asked for the serial number of the older version. I originally bought CS2 on disc and downloaded it onto my old mac and from there bought an upgrade to CS3. I no longer have the discs or box for CS2 and so I do not have the CS2 serial number. I contacted chat support who helped until I reached the point where I could open the application but then it would quit immediately and say "Adobe Update quit unexpectedly." Then he said it was an installing issue and turned me to the forums. Help, please?

JohnEden I would recommend running all available uninstallers to remove the current installation. The uninstallers are located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder. Once you have ran the uninstallers then please also utilize the CC Cleaner Tool for a complete removal. Genius crashing iTunes 8 - bad file?

I have a client who cannot activate the Genius feature in iTunes. After going through the sign-up procedure it begins to scan the iTunes database and then crashes at about halfway though the progress bar. The little wheel (chasing arrows) next to 'Genius' in the side bar hangs, then the entire OS crashes hard with only the cursor moving with a spinning wheel of death. Dock is dead, cannot force quit, the only way out is holding down the power button.
I assume this is a bad file, but there are no entries in any log files and the file names being scanned do not appear so I have no great way to troubleshoot this.
Are there any utilities that might scan your iTunes DB for errors? I realize the problem is likely data corruption on my client's machine but I don't seem to have any simple way of tracking down the source of the problem.

ITunes 8 Genius crashing iTunes

So I couldn't find a thread for this. I downloaded the update to iTunes 8 but everytime I try to "turn on" the Genius sidebar it crashes while sending the information to Apple. I get the error message "The iTunes application has unexpectedly quit....Rport or Reopen..."

Take it to an Apple Store and have it checked out. You could have a hardware issue there if the SIM is not being recognized.

I have a new iPod Nano 6th Generation. I didn't have activated Genius before but I want to do it now. Everytime I try it a message appears saying "There was an error. Try again later" time and time again. Anyone knows what is the problem and how to solve it? Thanks.

Trying to survive HD crash-need some help

My kid went to boot his Macbook last PM and spun then went black. I booted from Leopard Disc and the HD has failed and none of the repairs are successful. Backup? Heck no.
I took the HD out and put it in my Macbook to see if I could save it-no joy. I installed it in an external USB drive and the files and Apps were visible. I can copy them to the other Macbook from the external but will they now be on the other drive or ??? Once I replace the HD, can I just do a transfer to the new HD and have solved the problem?

You need to copy over some files then try to open them. Even if they show up with a badly damaged disk the files themselves could be damaged. If they copy over an you can open them then it should be OK.
Don't do too much with the damaged drive because each time you try to use it you could be damaging more files. There is disk recovery software but if you can copy them over you won't need to spend the $100 for it.
You can also take it to a disk recovery service but that will get a lot more expensive than $100. The one time I did it it cost $800 but all my files were recovered, which was about a year's worth of work for one client.
I then went out and bought external drives and cloned everything with SuperDuper!

i bought another phone today and had an old sim card at home from a 4g phone activated it in the new phone but it wont let me make calls

Try removing and resetting the Sim card again, if the card is good and for an active Verizon account it should work. If the card does not work visit a Verizon Corp Store and get a new card, there is no charge for the card at a VZW Corp store.

Cannot activate Genius

When activating Genius on step 2. while sending the info to Apple I get the "Connection time out. Could not connect to Apple Store" message.
I tried many things without success:
-selected and unselected tracks from the library
-flushed DNS
-Checked my firewall. It enables iTunes
-Antivirus NOD32 internet settings allow iTunes
-erased iTunes library files
-tried to activate Genius on different days and times
I don't know what else to do, please help me!! I want Genius back. All the problem started when I upgraded to iTunes 8.2.1.6
All other functions are OK, I can connect to Applestore but Genius cannot.

Keep getting error 4002 when trying to update Genius

I haven't seen anyone write about getting error 4002 when trying to update genius in itunes. I select update genius and it gathers information and sends it to the itunes store I assume. And then waits a few seconds and then I get the following message "Genius results can't be updated right now. An unknown error occurred (4002) Please try again later." I've been getting this message for well over a month and I keep hoping they'll be an update or somehow it will magically be fixed, but nothing has changed. Anyone have any insight on this one?
The current ituned library it 123GB and is stored on external drives. It should also be noted that when I first turned on genius when it was released it went through this whole problem without a hitch. I just can't update Genius with any of the music I've added since then. I can't even get genius to recognize music that I got from the itunes store since I've had the problem.

Be careful - this was a disaster for me. Once I did this, I got a different error - an error 4010 and in trying to recover, caused a lot of library issues that forced me to go to a backup to fix. You'll find a lot of people having the 4010 problem. Basically iTunes Genius is a disaster and Apple isn't fixing it.
