Trying to add HP Officejet K5400 network printer

Adding the printer via cups (1.4.2) simply places a print job in the queue and does not print. The message in cups for the print job says "processing since ... " followed by the time the print job was created.
If I try to install the printer via hp-setup the printer is detected but at the end of the setup an error message appears that states: "Printer queue setup failed. Please restart CUPS and try again." Not sure on how to restart cups manually but restarting the PC produces te same results.
Thanks for any help

Oops! Okay I added myself to lp group, then had to add to sys group, did that and re-ran hp-setup, added printer and printed test page successfully (this is via USB connection of course). I was trying to get it to work wirelessly but it didn't show up in hp-wificonfig, but it normally is plugged into an XP machine which I was trying to connect to via SAMBA to use it as shared. Well I added again to CUPS and it works!
Question, though: How can I see some kind of status or something in GUI that would show progress for printing, or any error that occurred, etc.? This I mean for printing over SAMBA with CUPS. I opened the hp-systray app and it only will show the printer that I added via USB, I can't get it to show the one I added via CUPS over SAMBA. Thanks for all your help, greatly appreciated!!

  • Trying to add a DELL (Lexmark) V715w printer to my MacBook Pro

Purchased a DELL branded Lexmark V715w AIO printer a month or so back.  I was able to install it to my Windows based home system.  When I try and add it to my MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, I cannot get it to print at all.  It will show up in the print and scan Queue fine, but will never print anything when a document or picture is sent to it.
I have tried multiple versions of both DELL and Lexmark drivers, updated the firmware, downloaded the newest MAC Lion drivers to no avail.  I like this printer, and hope that someone can assist me in getting it setup for use.
When I try and complete teh Lexmark Wireless assistant, it hangs at the Connect USB cable screen and never allows the "Continue" button to be selected (stays grayed out), I found a fix for this on the windows side, but nothing for us MAC users.
Any assistantance would be greatly appreciated, starting to get tired of saving to a UB Stick and getting on the Windows machine to print items.

There is a flaw in OS X Lion.
    From this article.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4670
If the printer is a wireless capable printer and it is connecting to a wireless network, make sure it is properly connected to the wireless network first. The printer may have to be connected to the Mac initially via USB.
As stated in that article the printer may need to be connect directly to the Mac Via USB during the initial setup.
    What a joke.
    Good luck.
I have an idea. Sell the Mac, don't look back and by a Windows notebook that actually is easier to use.

  • Trying to add an ApEx to network with no joy

I've been trying to connect an Airport Express to my existing Airport network (so I can listen to music downstairs) but when I try to locate it in Airport Admin Utility, it doesn't show up (if it helps, my other 3 show up with the Rendezvous icon next to them).
I try rescan in AAU and that doesn't make the 4th elusive ApEx show up, and if I want to add it, it asks me for its IP address - which I don't have as it won't show up in any of the Airport Utility programs!
Does anyone know how to add an existing ApEx to an Airport network, and what IS the differene between Relay and Remote? As I could swear the description given by the Airport Setup and Admin Utilities pretty much calls them the same thing (ie they both share a connection from the main base station)
oh and BTW, I've tried hard-resetting this thing about 4 times, so that doesn't work either!
    Many thanks!
    Ben

    Try this:
Do a hard reset of the AirPort Express (AX).
Temporarily connect to the AX via Ethernet.
If you only need to stream music, follow the directions in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.

  • Trying to add ipod touch to network

I have a Linksys WRT54G router and I'm trying to connect my ipod touch to the web, but I'm having troubles.  I currently have a laptop and PC added to my router without issue.
The ipod keeps prompting me for a password, but I simply can't remember it.  I've tried the router password, but it won't let me join.
Where can I find the password, or will I have to set up the router and all my network connections from scratch after I reset?
    Any assistance is appreciated.

I guess it is asking for a Network Key/WEP Key...Follow this link to get the wireless settings on the router...

  • Error -9672 when trying to add HP F380 as bonjour printer

Not sure if this is helpful or not, but it appears the HP F380 is not compatible with the newest Airport Extreme (with all the updates). After connecting it to the Airport the Printer Setup Utility can see the printer as a bonjour printer (good) but when I go to add it as a printer it fails with a -9672 error (bad). In the console the following error message is logged.
Error -9672, badly formatted ticket XML - Bad XMLStart:
    Bad XMLEnd
HP says 'their printers may work, but the configuration is unsupported'. So I'm posting here in the hopes Apple will try and work around the issue in an Airport update.

I too had the same problem with my HP F380 Printer. There is a way to get it to print over AE, but it will no scan. Here are the steps, hope it helps.
    1. Install Footmatic-Rip-3.34.2.15.ppc.dmg, espgs-7.07.1.ppc.dmg, hpijs-2.7.6.U.dmg (all found at http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs)
    4. Go to Add printer.
    5. Under "Print Using:" Select HP, then select HP DeskJet F300 Footmatic/hpijs (recommended).
    6. Click Add
    That's it.
Be sure to install the .dmg(s) in the order listed above, no big deal but hpijs-2.7.6.U.dmg won't install without the other two.

  • Need HELP trying to add Express to existing network

I get everything all setup and then the final step shows up when it asks you to put in password of existing network. I put the password in and it takes awhile the comes back with a message of An error occured while trying to connect to the network. Also when ever I do this my airport card in my computer becomes unresponsive and requires me to turn the airport on then off to get it to work again. Please help

Sorry for the delay in response.
I have been able to access and use Final Cut Server as part of our regular workflow from within our LAN.
In terms of remote access to the network, I set up the Airport Extreme to forward all incoming requests to the computer running Final Cut Server. When I go to the IP address I am reported to be on (from whatismyip) from inside my network, everything works fine. I can access the apache server and Final Cut Server. When I utilize a computer not on the same network to access the IP address for the network my Final Cut Server is located on, the browser timeouts trying to connect. Eventually I receive a message saying the server is not responding.
Any ideas why I cannot access my home network remotely?

  • Need help installing Canon network printer on Mountain Lion

I am trying to install a Canon MF4270 network printer with my Macbook Air running Mountain Lion.
I added the printer using its IP, and selected the MF4200 driver from the list that came installed with the OS.  The printer worked, but it would not allow me to print double-sided (the option was greyed out). Some research showed that other people with similar problems simply updated the printer driver.
I checked the driver version and it said 2.0. I went to the Canon website and downloaded the newest version of the driver, which said 2.43.
I re-added the printer with the new driver. Same problem.
So I deleted the driver and the list of associated files, given to me by Canon tech support (I verified then that the MF4200 driver was no longer on the list), then installed the new driver (restarting my computer at every step).  I re-added the printer.
Now, it doesn't work at all. When I try to print, I get the following message: "Canon UFR II Printer Driver / Cannot communicate with the printer, or the printer is not supported. If the printer is supported, check the printer connection and add it again, then start Printer Utility to get the printer information."
I tried adding the printer using the Generic PostScript Printer driver, and when I print, it says that it is printing and I get no errors, but nothing prints.
Now, I can't print at all, and no one at Canon or Apple has been able to solve the problem.
    Please help.

First, delete the print queue in the Print & Scan preference pane, if you haven't already done so.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Caches/Canon/CUPSCAPT/CCPD/ccpd.conf
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Trash. You may be prompted for your login password.
    Recreate the print queue.

  • Trying to add my HP Photosmart c309a

Trying to add my HP Photosmart c309a printer.  Under system preferences, Print and Scan, click + to add printer, highlight the HP Photosmart c309a printer, and even though it says the selected printer software is available from Apple, after I click "add" it searches and comes back with: Can't install the software for the HP Photosmart C309a series because it is not currently available from the Software Update server.

I have an HP 2710 All-in-one (wireless) hooked up to my network. I never have problems printing, but when I scan, I have to go to the printer, press the scan button, then select the "computer" I want to connect too, which is my macbook. If I do not go to the printer and select the macbook then I get the same error you are talking about. Have you tried this solution yet?

  • Error When Printing on Network Printer

I am trying to connect to a windows network printer through my MacBook Air. I can connect to the printer via the windows network and can send documents to print.
The document goes through to print but at the last second it says there is an error.
When looking on the network windows computer, in which the printer is installed, I can see the document has gone through to print using the printer dialogue box for microsoft, but it details there is an error and the document doesn't print.
It seems that they are connected but there is still an error.
Both Windows and Mac computers are up to date currently and the printer is a HP Deskjet F4180.
    Appreciate any help.

The problem is that HP wrote their driver(s) to only use the comm protocol they wanted to support. In your case, bonjour via USB (&/or Wifi?).
You need a different driver - that can use all the standard comm protocols available in OS X, like Windows printing.
(remember that I don't have your printer to test this)
Try the 3-part driver set hpijs from here (it says for 10.8, but others say it works with 10.9):

  • Can't add AX to TC network

I used 2005 AX as a base station. After buying TC I wanted to extend my TC Apple network with the AX. When I tried to add AX to the network and configure it, AirPort Utility wanted me first to switch from TC Apple network to AX Apple network.
I just want to have one TC network. How can I just add AX to this network without network switching? I did reset AX to factory setting.
    Milan

one option would be to disconnect a computer from the network and use an ethernet cable directly to the APX. use the airport utility to configure the APX in this manner.
another option would be to allow it to switch networks, and see if you can tweak the settings at that point.

  • Network Printing Broken

I have an iMac connected via ethernet cable to my router and a MacBook Air, which connects to the same router via WiFi. I have two network printers (a Brother HL-5250DN and a Samsung CLX-3170), both wired via ethernet to the same router.
Both Macs have now been upgraded to Mountain Lion. The hardwired iMac can still print to either printer with no problems.
My MacBook Air cannot print to either one. When I try to print using the current installed printers, I get an error message "Printer is not connected. Unable to find printer".
By creating a new printer, I was able to add the Brother as an Air Print printer. It now works, but takes much longer to print than before -- it spends a couple of minutes "connecting" before finally printing. Note that this delay does NOT happen from the wired iMac.
The Samsung, which is both a printer and a scanner, is still inaccessible. When I try to add it as a network printer, it doesn't appear in the list. I have run Software Update in hopes of getting a new driver, but no luck there.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to:
    1. Set up a connection to my Samsung printer
    2. Speed up the Brother printer's printing process.
    Thanks for any help,
    Steve D.

No - the printer is attached to a router. The network is set up like this:
    DSL modem to router
Router to Networked printer (Xerox 6200N)
Router to older G4 minitower (without airport card)
    Router to new Airport extreme.
Previously the same exact network cable was attached to an airport express --- no problems printing to the printer.
Just set up the Airport extreme yesterday --- no problems with the internet but doesn't recognize printer...
(FYI - DSL is static IP --- which I need for the G4 minitower because it acts as a server for my calenndar program --- the computer then is set to share it's internet connection via the sharing preferences)
    Thanks.

  • Remote network print stalls, PC sharing printer shows spooling

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, my remote printing to a Canon iP4300 shared on an XP Pro SP2 no longer works.
My MacBook finds the printer, and allows me to print. Status shows that the document is printing. However, on the XP machine, the document shows as spooling. This remains stalled for many minutes. I've tried deleting and reinstalling the shared network printer on the MacBook. No joy.
This used to work just fine on Leopard. Has anyone run across this?

Hello Carlos and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Your issue is probably due to the printer driver you are using on Snow Leopard. When you print to a Windows shared printer, you cannot use the Canon supplied drivers. For this type of network connection, you need to use the Gutenprint drivers, which may have been installed on your Mac depending on what customization you did on install.
What you can do is open Print & Fax, select the iP4300 in the Printers list and click Options & Supplies. Then open the Driver pane and change the Print Using menu from the Canon iP4300 series to the 'Canon PIXMA iP4300 - Gutenprint v5.2.3'. This should get you printing again. If not, please reply.

  • Help - Trying to add a Homehub 2 to extend my Home...

    Hi All
I've recently acquired a Homehub 2 (type A) and I'm trying to add it to my network to extend my Wifi.  My primary router is a Homehub 3 (type A).  I'm using TP Link Powerline adapters around my house to extend my wired network, and plugging my HH2 into a gigabit switch from one of the Powerline adapters (I know this works as I have a working Xbox and WDTV both networked from the switch via the Powerline adapter).
I've followed the guide here (http://www.filesaveas.com/jarviser/repeaterhubswired.html) to set up the HH2 as a WAP.
I've successfully reset to HH2 back to the factory defaults, accessed the HH2 via the preset admin password, reset the admin password, renamed the SSID to a unique SSID, given the SSID a password, disabled DHCP, disabled the firewall, and reset the IP address to 192.168.1.175.
Currently I can locally browse to the HH2 web client and login at 192.168.1.175.  I can also see the HH2 via wifi on my network.  However, the issue is that when i attempt to connect to the HH2 via wifi it never manages to assign the device an IP address.
Anyone any ideas as to the problem / solution?
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I got the same problem at the weekend (albeit between two HH 2 type a routers) when the power line adapters weren't connecting to each other.  If you have changed the DHCP settings in the "slave" router - the IP addresses will be allocated by the master router.  If the slave cannot connect to the master then it can't assign an IP address.
Anyway that's what seemed to have happened to me - immediately the two routers were connected the IP addresses resolved immediately.
You may want to try resetting the powerline adapters and make sure they are connecting to each other (on the BT supplied adapters that means the top "data" light is displaying green on both adapters).  I also found that sometimes after a disconnection or the master router being switched off, I had to restart the "slave" router after the master router was available again.
    I hope this helps.

  • Cannot print from Canon iRC2380i network printer, Help??

I am trying to connect to our office network printer.
When I search for the printer my Macbook Pro can find it and when I key in the IP address it connects successfully and chooses the Generic PostScript Printer as the driver.
However when I try and print it just prints a page with one line of random encrypted text and then many blank pages.
I'm not sure how to fix this.
    Running OS X 10.6.8
