Trying to add ibook to network

I purchased a powerbook G4 in Dec 2004 and transferred all of my data (via firewire) from a ibook G3. I have recently decided to use the ibook as an additional computer in our household and having trouble adding it to the Airport Extreme network. I have completely reset the entire OS with the original software as recommended by Apple. When I try to join the network, it asks me for a password, which I correctly enter, and I get an error message saying I've typed in the wrong password. Occassionally when I try it, it says an error has occured and I can't join the network.
I have the password with the G4 set with a WEP Personal, but the only option on the G3 is a 128-bit hex. Could this be the root of my problem?
In addition to the G4 pbook, there is another ibook that also uses this Airport that doesn't seem to have any issues getting onto the network.

Make sure your G3 is running:
- at least MacOS 10.3
- has the Airport 4.1 update installed from:

  • Trying to add LC580 to network

    Hi all,
I have an airport extreme network consisting of: an iMac G4 connected through ethernet to an airport extreme base station, an airport express unit "extending" that wireless network, and a Mac mini as a wireless client. I am trying to add a "new" computer to the network, my LC 580; it's plugged into the airport express base unit via ethernet (the LC has a 10 Mb ethernet card).
On the LC, I have two hard drives and one has OS 7.6.1, and the other OS 8. I seem to have gotten the closest to connecting with OS 7.6.1, so i'll start there. In the "Network" control panel, I have it set to use "Ether Talk, slot 1". When I go to the Chooser and select AppleShare, my Mini shows up in the "Available servers" list, but when I try to connect to it, I get this error message "This file server uses an incompatible version of the AFT protocol. You cannot connect to it".
In OS 8, when I even try to select Ethernet under the AppleTalk control panel, it gives me an error message about the ethernet card, so I'm guessing 8 can't work with the card.
Any suggestions, or can this even be done?
    Thanks!

Some more(sorry, didn't find as quick as I needed). There have been two threads connecting to a mini, perhaps you can use them:

I have a wirless network. I connect all my computers to it and a printer. I can print wirelessly from all computers. I tried to add the printer to my new Macbook, which is connecte to the network, but can't find the printer on the add printer and scan icon on preferences. You would need to get the IP address of your printer then manually add a network print queue.
To get the IP address, on the control panel of your printer, press on Setup > Network Setup > TCP/IP > View/Set IP address.

  • HT5022 I'm trying to add a "new client" to my wireless network using Airport Utility, but I can't find that option in the new version.  I've downloaded all available updates of the OS and the utility..  Help!

I'm trying to add my HP wireless printer as a "new client" to my wireless network using Airport Utility, but I can't find that option in the new version.  I've downloaded all available updates of the OS and the utility..  Help!

Why would you need to ADD a new Client. Unless the APE sytem is completely different then any other Wireless router the printer should get an IP address from the router. That is IF the printer is setup to get an IP from the LAN DHCP server.
Now you may want to make that IP it does get a Staticly assign IP address so it never changes, which will screw up printing if it does change. But i don't know if you can do that with APE routers.

  • I am trying to add an updated version of a PDF eBook to iBooks but I'm told it already exists.

    Hi There,
I'm using iBooks on Mavericks, primarily prior to syncing books to my iPad.
I often upload both the ePub and PDF versions, as a lot are technical books, with diagrams in them.
Anyway, I received the final versions of a recently released book on SharePoint, after earlier only having the pre-release version, which only came in PDF.
So I deleted the old PDF version, from the eBooks Library, added the ePub Version, but when I try to add the PDF version, it continually tells me that the PDF version still exists, and refuses to add it. They are named the same. It doesn't appear to still exist in the iBooks library or any collection, and what's more the message appears in a loop - it continues to appear repeatedly even though I've just tried to add the book once.
This is very frustrating. Any suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Trevor

    Hi All,
I think I've solved my problem, but it wasn't obvious. I deleted the old PDF version of the book, and I'm not sure where it went. Only when I was in the "All Books" view and I filtered by part of the book name did it appear, and it becamse obvious that the old version was still in iBooks, and I realized that deleting the old version of the PDF is a two step process, unless you delete it directly from the All Books View, when the Delete option becomes Delete from Library.
Solved now, but I think the UI needs some work, as it's far from clear enough at this stage. I don't think it's at all obvious how I ended up in the pickle I was in, and just repeating an error message in the way it did is not satisfactory.
    Cheers,
    Trevor

Don't inject the Windows 7 version of the driver into your WinPE image. Depending on what version of ADK you are using determines what version of the driver you will inject into WinPE.  If you are using MDT 2013 with ADK 8.1 you are using WinPE 5.0/5.1
which is basically Windows 8.1. Make a selection profile explicitly for your WinPE drivers to inject. Only include the drivers you want in the WinPE image. And match the architecture of the network and storage drivers (Windows 8.1 versions).

  • Trying to add a Wireless router as a switch on an existing Wired network

    Hi,
I'm having a lot of trouble with my WRT54GS v.2.0
I'm trying to add wireless access to my existing network here at work. I think the main network is using Dlink 40+ node switches.
I've been reading around and I've tried to turn off DHCP on the router, but when my computer tries to find a connection, it times out. I'm not even trying to get the wireless to work, just LAN for now.
The router will get an ip address assigned by the main network, so it's connected, but I can't get the computer through to the main network.
Is there anything I need to be setting up on the computer? Can this even be done?
    Thanks,
    Alex

please make sure that you dont use the internet port on the router, use the local ports...(1,2,3,4)

Trying to add a WRT610n to my home network.  When I try to connect to the router from my XP desktop with a CAT5 cable it does not see it.  Was able to connect from my Vista laptop both with a CAT 5 and wirelessly.  Changed the router IP address to 192.168.2.1 as instructed by tech support. Desktop still does not see the router.  Connect desktop to Westell wireless modem/router with a CAT 5 - no problem.  Also connected the desk top to a regular router no problem..
Got no help from tech support - was told that it's not their problem so it must be a computer hardware problem.  If it was a hardware issue with my computer then why didn't I have a problem with the other two routers?
I am sure it is a configuration problem but I can not get any support for Linksys?  Any ideas?

Well you need to assign the static DNS to the pc in the range of the new lan ip 192.168.2.1 & you will be able to go online wired & wirelessly.

  • Trying to add a Win7 laptop to network of 2 XPs.

I'm running a home network with a desktop wired to a modem and WRT54G, with a laptop, also XP. Tried to add a new laptop, OS: Win7. The new laptop says it can access the network but can't access the Net. If I wire the laptop directly to the router, it accesses the Net, no problem.
What's the best method to add the new laptop?
     Thanks for any assistance

Thanks for your interest. I've loaded the latest firmware in the router. Afterwards all computers, including my new laptop could see the net and get on. Then, as soon as I added some security in the form of a WEP password, the new laptop could not get past the security log on. The other laptop had no problem. At least this time the new laptop asked for a password but then couldn't successfully use it to get on. I'm making progress, but clearly Win7 seems to have problems communicating with my old router. At least that's how it seems. I'm thinking of trying some other form of security before I abandon the old router. I have not yet tried to set file sharing or other forms of establishing a local network for my computers, right now I'm just trying to get the new laptop to access the net with some security. The local network and file sharing etc., will be a new headache.
    Again, thanks for your interest.

  • PROBLEM: Trying 2 add an AIRPORT EXPRESS to an already existing AIRPORT EXTREME network

I'm trying 2 add an AIRPORT EXPRESS to an already existing AIRPORT EXTREME network in my home.
I see the EXPRESS in ARPT UTILITY but when I click on "CONTINUE" or "MANUAL", the only option I'm given is to SWITCH networks, which I do not want to do.
I am using a MACBOOK PRO (MAC OS X 10.6.8)
Can someone offer me help with this?
    Thanks!

Hi, I have a similiar setup.  When you click onto the express, and it asks you to switch networks, it's not actually asking you to "change" networks.  It's just actually switching to the xpress.  When the xpress comes up, you'll input the name of your existing network, which you set up and named for the extreme.  You'll have to change the extreme to "participate in a network", which is what you'll also do for the xpress.  In the extreme under the WDS tab, you'll input the wds mode as "wds main".  And then put a check mark in the "allow wireless clients".  Where it says wds remotes, you'll input the the airport id's for the xpress's.  In each of the xpress's, you'll set up as participating in a wds network.  In the xpress's, under the wds tab, you'll set the wds mode to remote, and check
mark in the allow wireless clients.  You'll have to input the airport id of the extreme in the wds main block.  Under the internet icon on top, in internet conect tab for connect using: airport (wds), connect sharing: off (bridge mode).
Remember to insure that the express's show the same channel as the extreme, if you're using 802.11n (80211b/g compatible).  Of course the security that you decide to use should also be the same.

i'm trying to add my airport express to my network. The airport utility shows a message that its gathering info about my network then suddenly an unexpected error message appears. Why is that?

Until Bob Timmons gets back to you, first decide what you would like the Express to do. I understand you want it for AirPlay remote speakers, which you can certainly do.
I am assuming that you are not using an Apple AirPort router; if that's not the case stop here and let me know.
If your existing router is not an Apple AirPort Base Station, the Express:
can "join" an existing wireless network as a client, for the sole purpose of streaming music. If that's what you want to do, do not connect it to your router with an Ethernet cable.
can "extend" an existing wired network to serve as an additional wireless access point, which can also stream music. If that's what you want to do, connect its WAN port to an available LAN port on your router using an Ethernet cable.
Then, "hard reset" the Express according to the instructions below, and configure it. The prompts should be self-explanatory. If you run into trouble, describe which of the above two configurations you decided upon, and the point at which you're getting the "unexpected problem".
To "hard reset" an AirPort Base Station: make sure it's powered up, then gently press and hold its tiny reset button. Don't apply any more force than required to feel a tactile click.  Keep it depressed for five to ten seconds, long enough for its LED to flash amber rapidly. Release the reset button. Then, the LED will glow amber steadily for about a minute. Then, it will flash amber, slowly, about once every second or two, waiting for you to configure it with AirPort Utility.

Email on my iphone wasn't updating so I deleted the acct. Iphone won't verify acct. when I tried to add that acct back. Message says check network connection and that I entered correct info in the "Incoming Mail Server" field.
    Where would I find that?

You are sure that you have entered the correct username and password in the incoming mail section?
As far as using the iPhone with the Mac, I'm not a Mac user, so I cannot say. I do know that with Windows, the only time the iPhone will appear in Explorer is if there are photos in the Camera Roll. Otherwise you have no other access to the file system.
