Trying to assign an expression pedal to modulation.  Pulling hair out.

Hello,
I bought an Alesis 88 MIDI Keyboard and need to use an expression pedal for modulation.  While trying to do this (hitting cmd + L) I assigned the mod wheel to volume now and can't get that back.  Where can I find modulation so that i can click on it and assign it to a controller?
Much appreciated,
Matt

Yes, modulation tends to be hardcoded for MIDI CC 1, so youi'll have to transform your CC 11 (pedal) to CC 1.
Open an Environment window, cmd-8.
via the little dropdown on the top left corner, go to the Clicks & Ports layer.
From the local menu New, select a Transformer. Cable and set up  as shown in the pic.

    Hi
    You will need to map the "Expression Pedal" to the Waa pedal. There are several ways you could do it, here's one:
    In Layout Mode, add a Pedal Screen control, and Assign it to the in-coming MIDI from the GiO.
    In Edit mode, select the Screen Control, and click the "Map Parameter" button. While this is active click on the Wah pedal in the PedalBoard plugin. Turn off 'Map Parameter".

  • How to stop expression pedal from changing patch volume

    I'm trying to use an expression pedal with Omnisphere in Mainstage but the pedal is controlling the volume of the sound. How do I stop this so that I am only controlling the parameters I have selected in the modulation matrix in Omnisphere?
    Thanks

    the problem seems to be that when you set  Controllers:Output to Expression(11) it controls the Expression disc/dial at the top of the channel which controls the volume IN to the channel and if you set the Controllers:Output to Volume(7) it controls the volume Fader.  the first is pre-fader volume and the second 'post'-fader volume.
    here's what i don't understand.  if i change the Controllers:Input to anything other than Expression(11), then it reverts back to controlling the Expression disc/dial.
    so why is  Controllers:Output to Expression(11) always controlling the pre-fader input?  why can't i change where that 'goes'?  i only have 4 choices. the reason i don't directly map it is because i use my MINILAB to change MIDI Channels and so i when i'm on MCh1 it only plays and controls the EP on channel one.  MCh2 plays and controls the lead on channel 2, etc through 4 channels.  this way i can switch between the channels by selecting such on my MINILAB controller.
    to add another issue, the expression pedal i'm using is from my Apogee GiO and it doesn't change channels..it goes to all Expression controls everywhere.
    —Caleb
    ^ i discovered that i had the Expression Pedal 'knob' set to Automatic.  this for some reason sends it to all my channels even though they are on different MIDI channels/inputs.  when i set it to just one input it only controls the Expression disc/dial for the channels that are mapped to that input (Keyboard1).
    still, i'd like for it to change channels when i change MIDI on my MINILAB, though that seems like an impossible desire.  second, it still doesn't explain why Expression is functionally synonymous with pre-fader gain.

  • Recording Expression Pedal problem

    I'm having a problem recording a guitar using an expression pedal in Logic Pro X. I have my guitar patch set up correctly, and I'm using it with the Wham pedal. It's correctly mapped to my expression pedal on my Behringer FCB1010, and everything sounds fine when I try it out through the monitor without recording. However, once I start recording the part, it only captures the high end of the expression.
    I'm using the Wham to go up an octave, but I want it to record the transition of a note while pushing up the expression pedal - it only seems to capture the whole thing one octave up. An example of what I'm trying to do is Tom Morello's guitar solo on Audioslave's "Like a Stone." The Wham is perfect for this effect, but only if it records the note slowly moving up in key in relation to my foot pedal. It's just recording the whole part one octave up even though it sounds right through the monitor. Any ideas? If it won't do it, then I might as well just record the part playing it an octave up, which sorta defeats the purpose of the Wham - and the Octave pedal does that just fine. Hope u can help!

    As soon as you assign a midi message to a parameter (which you have done) with the Learn function, the midi data gets "hijacked" by that and will no longer reach the logic sequencer. You can see that in the MIDI monitor in your transport: as soon as you delete the assignment of the expredal, the control 11 messages from your pedal will show up there.
    What you need to do instead, is engage track automation (Latch mode) to record the movements of the parameter. But if you need the Epedal to get the cc 11 MIDIdata to the track, then you should delete the Controller Assignment from the window (cmd-K).

    I am having the same problems. My guess is that a lot of people are having the same problems and just living with it. Those of us who know where to go on the Internet come here to find a fix.
    It seems Verizon has some explaining to do. Maybe they should try Beta testing new software a little better. I would rather have to wait longer for something that works. I am sure that some manager or director said this is close enough, deploy it and we will see what happens. Well, you are seeing the problems. Time to fix your mistake.
    All of us are telling our friends about the problems. The longer this goes on, the more people we will tell about it.
    Wouldn't you rather us be telling our friends that their is an error in the new interface and that you are working hard to fix it?
    If you want to be up front about this, then just tell us. We are adults and can handle it. If you made a mistake, own up to it and give us some credit for doing your Beta testing in the field.
    Customer Service is all about telling the truth and if you made a mistake, admit it and lets move on with a fix. I do not want to be told again that I should be able to unplug it, power cycle it, try the on-board diagnostics, etc., etc.......
    I am going to be repsonding on a daily basis to keep this topic at the top of the list.
    Time to come clean. You will feel better Verizon.
    Let's talk tomorrow.

  • Expression pedal not working in Logic after upgrading to Lion

    I'm having a problem where Logic 9 isn't recognizing the expression pedal (CC#11) MIDI messages coming from my M-Audio Axiom 61 keyboard after I upgraded to Lion.  I've reset the settings on the Axiom, made sure the pedal was set properly and plugged in to the correct port.  (Also, it's an m-audio expression pedal) The display on the Axiom says it's receiving the midi controller messages.  Logic is receiving the mod wheel and pitch bend messages, and sustain pedal messages.  On the midi activity monitor in the transport bar and in the environment clicks and ports window, it's the same.  Everything but the CC#11 messages are coming through.  Also the expression pedal DOES still work in Mainstage.
    I've also tried creating a new Logic project, but it still doesn't work.
    Any ideas?

    Also, for the sake of experimenting, I assigned the Axiom to convert the expression pedal messages to CC#2.  When I did that, Logic DID receive it (as CC#2).  So then in the Environment clicks and ports layer, I made a transformer object to turn it back into CC#11.  So that's my work around for now.
    Also, I tried, on the Axiom, assigning my Mod wheel to CC#11 (so that it's sending CC#11 to Logic when I move the mod wheel.)  And then Logic also DIDN'T receive it at all.
    So it seems that Logic doesn't like paying attention to CC#11 messages right now.

  • Expression Pedal to Wah Pedal in Logic Pro X

    This should be simple as control-click the pedal and assign a midi controller such as cc11 but it isn't.
    How in heaven's name do you control the wah-wah foot pedal with your MIDI foot pedal?
    Somebody, please...I been trying to figure this out for days!

    In LPX it is almost that easy.....
    Note: Make sure you have turned on ALL the advanced features in LPX's Prefs/Advanced before proceeding
    1) Select the track you wish to automate and make sure the plugin (or in your case, I assume the Pedalboard interface) is visible on the screen
    2) Press Command + L to open the Control Assignment window.
    3) If the Learn button in the bottom righthand corner of the Control Assignment Window is not Blue.. click on it once to turn it on (Blue in color)
    4) Click on the wah pedal graphic in the pedalboard window
    5) Move your Expression Pedal all the way up and all the way down. You should see the Wah pedal graphic move along with your movements of the expression pedal.
    6) Click the Blue Learn button to complete the process.
    7) Done.
    Additional info: Instead of... or in addition to...your expression pedal  you could also assign any other slider or knob on your midi controller for example to any other knob/slider or parameter in the pedal board or any other plugin or the LPX mixer functions such as pan or effect send level... for that matter... you currently have active too... by repeating the above process from Step #2
    Now read up on automation in the manual as to how to best record such movements and be able to easily edit them if needed.

    ...and also type Automation in the search box in the online guide for more info...

  • Expression Pedal movements

    Hi,
    I use GB09 for recording guitar and bass to backing tracks and use either Guitar Rig 4 or Amplitube 3 as inserts in GB09. I use an Apogee GiO as an audio interface - sounds fantastic.
    I'm looking at adding a Roland FV500L expression pedal via the dedicated GiO expression pedal input socket. This should allow me to use the expression pedal as a Vol/Wah/modulation or whatever I assign it to do.
    My question is - Where are the "movements" of the expression pedal stored? - I understand that the track I record in GB09 is the native sound of the guitar/bass and that this is processed upon playback (or while monitoring) by the presets in GB09 and/or GR4 and A3.
    So how do my movements on the expression pedal get stored in GB09 so that they are replicated and repeated upon playback?
    I can't see how it works

    When you recorded a MIDI Region using the Expression Pedal, select the Region, open it in the Piano Roll Editor and select the "MIDI Draw" button. When you select the Expression from the Controller popup button, you should see the Expression Data you've recorded.
    Hope that helps

  • Expression pedal issues in 2.2.2

    I just upgraded to 2.2.2 and ma having difficulty with MS remembering my older conert expression pedal settings.
    They default to -infinity.
    But if I step on the pedal, it moves up incrementally.  If I relearn the assignment, and save it, when I return to the concert it does not remember.
    It is also random.  I have a 2 keyboard setup and it happens on both.
    Anyone else having this difficulty?
    Very frustrating.

    John, you are right. I was being stupid. However, I was trying to come up with a simple enough testcase to report a potential problem in 2.3.8 that we are seeing. This is part of the query that used to work in 2.2.13 and now fails in 2.3.8
    <pre>
    xquery version '1.0';
    declare namespace fn = 'http://www.w3.org/2005/xpath-functions';
    declare namespace xs = 'http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema';
    declare function local:f1($doc1 as node(), $doc1Prop as node()) as xs:boolean {
    fn:exists($doc1)
    for $d1 in fn:collection('col1')
    let $d2 := fn:doc(fn:concat('some-prefix', dbxml:metadata('dbxml:name', $d1)))
    where (local:f1($d1, $d2))
    order by dbxml:metadata('dbxml:name', $d1) descending
    return dbxml:metadata('dbxml:name', $d1)
    </pre>
    If I run this using the dbxml tool, I get:
    <pre>
    stdin:169: query failed, Error: Variable :d2 does not exist [err:XPST0008], <query>:12:25
    where (local:f1($d1, $d2))
    </pre>
    If I switch $d1, and $d2 around, the query succeeds.

    Hi,
    No it is not possible. However this issue is resolved in SOA Suite 11g PS3. Where it uses BPEL WS 2.0 standards.

  • [SOLVED] XSD simpleType trying to assign incompatible types

    Hi all!
    I have a big XSD schema with complex and simple types defined. One of the simple types looks like this (string with min and max length defined):
         <xsd:simpleType name="MySimpleType">
              <xsd:restriction base="xsd:string">
                   <xsd:minLength value="1" />
                   <xsd:maxLength value="36" />
              </xsd:restriction>
         </xsd:simpleType>I assign (copy operation) a string variable to an element of this type. When I compile i get the trying to assign incompatible types warning. I know it's just a warning but I'd like to solve it. I thought I can create a variable of the same type, but I can't (if I try to define message type only the complex type from XSD are displayed).
    Is there a way to get rid of this warning?
    Thanks

    instead of using a variable assignment use the expression builder to construct the 'bpws:getVariableData() equivalent of the variable assignment. The warning will no longer exist.

  • Routing the expression pedal to the wah in the Pedalboard

    How in heaven's name do you control the wah pedal in the pedalboard with an expression pedal (CC11) or anything else?
    Please help, anyone!!

    I Keenboards,
    I think I understand your question. As any parameter in MS you wish to control with hardware you need to assign it. Just go to Layout windows, add a pedal to the screen and on the left side choose learn and move your pedal (hardware) now if everything´s good you should have controller by the expression pedal. On the edit windows you can select the pedal on the screen and assign what you want that to do (wah wah).
    hope it helps you

  • Mainstage 2 - Expression Pedal ,midy only 64 to 127!!!!???!?!?!

    Hello everybody!!! Sorry my english!!
    I wanted to ask a question about the expression pedal for the Mainstage 2.A see if you can fix me.
    I looked in forums but not resolved.
    I am setting the mainstage 2, the expression pedal. I've tried it with 2, which I like most is the FC7 Yamaha and Korg EXP-2.
    I have also tried it on two keyborads controllers that I have the Axion 61 - Maudio and UF8 of CME.
    In all combinations never have the full range of 0 to 127.
    It is always 64 to 127.
    I've gotten from 0 to 64 with other configurations, but never from 0 to 127.
    You know what the problem?

    As MackeZwo said, you might be using the wrong kind of cable. The other problem might be that your pedal is not compatible with your controllers. There are several methods of wiring up expression pedals, many of which are not compatible with each other. It might be possible to reprogram your axiom or UF8 to a different mode, however often it is not an option. If you search google you can find information on making your own adapter, or you can buy a pedal from the manufacturer or your keyboard. I know that for example my yamaha pedals do not work with my edirol keyboards, so I imagine you are running into the same issue.
    Also as MackeZwo hinted, you will almost always want to use a stereo TRS cable for your pedals (assuming the cable is detachable or your trying to extend its length).

  • Expression pedals conflict?

    I'm running two keyboard controllers and two expression pedals. What seems to happen is that I can't seperate the expression pedals signals even though they're coming in on different midi channels. For instance, If I'm controlling the EV-B3 with one pedal and I touch the other pedal, it affects the expression of the organ. Obviously, they're both coming in as controller #11, but can I assign one of them to reroute to some other number and still have it work as an expression pedal for the other keyboard?
    Thanks,
    Stewart
    PS. I just got a new Macbook (not Pro) w 4GB of RAM and left it at 10.5.0 and have had NO problems with CPU spiking like I had in 10.5.2 (that had Airport off)

    Actually, that helped a lot. Played St. Louis tonight with no problems. One of the issues is that I'm running a Nord Electro into an M-Audio Uno and also running the Axiom 49. That's not the half of it because I wanted to have a backup sound source in the event Mainstage crashed, so both the the Nord and Axiom are going into a 2x2 merge box with one out going to a JV1010 and the other going to the Uno. If Mainstage misbehaves, I can bring up the JV1010 and the Electro as backups. So Mainstage is receiving MIDI from the Axiom both from the USB port connected to the MacBook AND the merge box connected to the Uno.
    Anyway, I'll be on tour for the next two weeks and would love to meet other Mainstage users. Go to http://www.54seconds.com/shows.shtml to see where we'll be.
