Trying to attach Excel file to my email...but it is too big...how do I fix?

I am trying to attach two excel files to an email, and each time it goes as follows:
1. push the attach file button
2. chose my files
3. push the attach files button
4. the blue "progress" stripe begins to fill the address bar
5. Then it stops about an eighth of the way toward the end, and doesnt go any further...
I tried letting it go for a while, and giving it time, but it doesnt work. The file size is 34.4 (which I know is huge), but there is only about 20 lines of the Excel being used, but the program is trying to attach 64,599 lines of unused space, and that is why it isnt attaching im sure, but i dont know how to fix it, or if it is even possible.
Please help!
g5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

what email provider do you use?
i'd be surprised anyway if it will allow an attachment of that size. the limit is usuall between 1 and 5 MB, some going to 10 or 15 like gmail.
34MB? not unless you have an expensive or corporate email provider.
you can:
1: do like daddypaycheck said and reduce the file size by deleting unnecessary rows or collumns,
2: download OpenOffice.org, or NeoOffice, see if you like that and save it in the native format, usuall smaller file (beware compatibility)
3: use dropstuff or the like to break the file apart into multiple smaller compressed chunks, and send them in multiple emails (the size of the chunks each should match the attachment size limit for your email provider, see their website)
4:this is my favorite - put the file in your Sites folder, in your user's Home folder. open system prefs-> sharing. check the box to enable personal web sharing. go to www.whatismyip.org and copy the string of numbers that appear (that's your external ip). now you can host the file from your computer, and only email people a link to it! the link should be like this:
http://yourip/~your_short_username/name_of_exceldocument.xls
for example, here is my resume in .pdf, hosted from my computer (let me know if it works for you!)
http://67.40.250.86/~Willeyeam/images/WBLResume.pdf
Bam! I'd go with number 4, and test the url in your browser to make sure it works. once you get the page, you can "save as" and download the file. that way people can receive an email with only text, including the url (link) to the hosted file on your computer. then they can "save as" and download the file.
another, more sophisticated way to do this is to write a small .html page that has a link to that file (in your sites folder). name the .html file "index.html" and replace the file by that name which is by default placed in your Sites folder. that will then be your home page at:
http://yourip/~your_shortusername/
Rock on!

  • I've exported my pages graphics document as a PDF file and can't seem to reduce the file size without compromising the quality of the photo's used even after choosing "best" quality.  I'm trying to send the file via e-mail but it's too big.  ??????

I am trying to e-mail a graphics pages document I made as a PDF file.  After trying to resize the file, the photo's quality is compromised (really blurry) even after choosing "Best" quality.  What am I doing wrong.  As a regular full sized file (PDF) it's fine, but when it gets reduced, it's bad and it needs to get printed from the e-mail copy I'm trying to send.  HELP! Please.

If there are a lot and/or large images the file will inevitably be large, no matter what.
You can reduce them down as far as possible by cropping and scaling them to the final size before creating the pdf. You can do this by opening the images in Preview .app and using Menu > Tools to reduce the resolution and to crop.
If you have used transparency effects eg shadow, reflection, transparency, 3D charts, OSX will by default render these at 72dpi in the pdf.

    You aren't doing anything wrong.
If the PDF is short enough, your iPad Mail app will display the text as part of the mail.
Actually it is still an attachment.
Tap and HOLD on the text and you should see options to "Open In..." that will allow you to open the PDF in most PDF readers such as iBooks, GoodReader, etc.

  • Problem in opening of word and excell files downloaded from email attachment in MS office professional 2013 paper licence

    Hi,
I am facing the problem in opening the word and excel files received through email in my MS office professional 2013 paper licence, Microsoft Windows 8.1 enviornment. please help in this matter

I should further say the files I sent are .xlsx and .docx files.  They look fine my end and I send such files all the time without problems.
However, I did try to cheat by going in via the Safari onto my 'live' online email account and the Safari automatically transfers them to winmail.dat files with the same result.
Ahh - have just been on using my PC this time and you are right, it seems that the service provider does the transfer and then when my outlook opens the file (on the PC), it must reconvert to .xlsx etc again.
    Very strange.
Ergo, I guess the question should be how I open wimail.dat files ??

  • SOFFICEINTEGRATION 898 error message when trying to send excel file to

    Hi,
I am trying to send excel file from sap dp planning book using macro with document function to outlook mail.
when i am running the macro online its sending the file to my mail
but when i am scheduling a background job and executing its giving me SOFFICEINTEGRATION error 898
    can you please help?
do i need to do any setting any where
    Thanks

    Hello,
Programs that run in the background cannot address controls on the frontend. This is why you are not able to run a Program using SAP Office Integration which is a Frontend Control and can be used only with the SAP Gui. Since background process cannot make use of UI screens or actions hence it's not possible use SAP Office Integration in background processing. The reason for this is explained in note 674060. Therefore sending emails using a batch macro is not supported.
    Best regards

  • Unable to attach a file to the email

I am trying to attach a file using mail.app. When I click on attach(paper clip icon) then I am unable to traverse down to a sub-directory and to a file, instead mail.app attach the entire directory as an attachment. Is this a limitation with OS X? Again I tried the same with Sparrow to no avail.
Only way is to open a finder window and drag file to the email message.
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated?
    Thanks,
    Paddy

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • How do I attach a file to an email?

I am trying to attach a file to an existing message but cannot find the way to do so, and would like to know if it is even possible on my new ipad 3.

    Hi
In IOS6 you add attachments from photo scroll by pressing amail body and selecting Add Photo.
Other filetypes i.e. from apps cannot be inserter unless you send email from app, but that is always new email. So if you reply, you can only insert from scroll.

  • I can't download PDF files or excel files from my email

Why I cannot download PDF or excel files from my email. I click on the attach but it does nothing at all

You are saying that files are not opened in the mail app when you are reading the email or the file does not open when you tap on the icon?
Try quitting the mail app and the launch it again. Try restarting the iPad as well.
To quit the mail app ....  Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

I am trying to attach multiple photos to an email using ipad 2. I can see how to do it using the camera and camera roll ap...
But not using the photos ap..which is where the photos are. Any help would be appreciated.!

In an album in Photos touch the Edit button and then touch the desired photos (up to 5). A blue check appears in each selected photo. Next touch the Share button at the upper left and select Mail. This starts a email with the photos attached.

  • My friend, who is blind and navigates his computer largely via hotkeys, has asked me to try to discover whether there is a hotkey for attaching a file to an email in Firefox. I cannot find this on the web. Any suggestions?

Sorry, I don't know what other details I should provide. My friend has a program installed which lets him know out loud what is happening as he navigates, but it's been quite a process for him to attach files; he often requires help and it would certainly be easier with a hotkey.
I did check the hotkeys list on this site and discovered a whole lot of hotkeys I never knew existed, but none for attaching a file to an email. Any ideas that might be helpful are welcome, however I should say up front that I'm not nearly at the technical level most people on here obviously are. I can, however, follow clear instructions. :-)

I downloaded firefox 5 and yesterday, and now I am unable to attach any files to my email.
I create artwork and can not attach any illustrator or photoshop files. Why?

I just solved my own problem a few minutes ago. There was a little switch on the bottom of the Traveldrive. Locked or unlocked (the little lock symbols were so small I couldn't read them without a magnifying glass.

  • How do i attach a file to an email as an attachment and not embeded in the message?

how do i attach a file to an email as an attachment and not embeded in the message?

This question has been asked and answered several times already.
Any file attached to an e-mail message is an attachment. There is no other possibility -- the mail protocol does not allow it.
However, different e-mail clients may have different ways of displaying or viewing attachments, depending on their settings and the type of file attached.
If you're having problems with Windows users complaining about your messages, follow these instructions
