Trying to clean under Zen Touch Scre

Have a small speck of dust under my Zen Touch Screen thats causing a minor annoyance as blocking text.
Any tips how to remove or get rid off?
Thanx

The best you can do is take it apart and clean it. I do this regularily with mine. You will have to weigh the befits. Here is a guide on taking your touch apart.

I set up a fmware workstation virtual machine running winXP, after doing so it suddenly recognized the player also under vista (after selfinstall under the virtual xp-station!!!) , it was available as a virtual dri've and as a zen touch. i tried to update the firmware then under the xp sys but it had winMediaplayer on it which didn?t work with the zen touch as far as i know.On the VIsta machine? i tried to updade(get it to run) for hours, then tried to do everything new and started to remove every software and folders with creative parts in it, tried again etc but it wouldn?t work. the zen gave me a) the screen "syncroising" (for ever) or b)format, update firmware etc as options which didn?t work
?under _which_ system do i have to install _which_ firmware, software and what can the media player cause on problems please ?

  • Zen Touch Disapointmen

Hi, I'm having a problem with my creative zen touch 20 gig. I installed all the software and everything loaded correctly. I then opened creative mediasource to transfer my files to the mp3 player. I transfered around 450, and aside from a few problems with file type everything went smoothly. The problem came when i turned on the player. It turned on, but the only screen i can get to says: "Now Playing" at the top next to the battery gauge, and also says "Add music From Library (Press MENU button)", the problem is, i press the menu button, but nothing happens. The only buttons that work are the Volume buttons, On/Off, Hold Switch, and if i hold down the play/pause button, now and then the screen switches to "selected music", but there is nothing listed. The player has no problems docking, and i know the files transferred correctly. I went and deleted all the songs using Nomad Explorer, and then put 2 songs ontothe player using Nomad Explorer. I've Updated the firmware, and it updated with out a hitch.Another thing i've noticed is that i can not get to rescue mode,I know that you turn the player off, hold down the play/pause button, and then hit the reset button with a paper clip, and continue to hold the play/pause button. All that happens is the same "Add Music From Library (Press MENU button)" screen. No options for format, or disk scan.So i then tried uninstalling all the software, using the CD, but when i try to uninstall the Creative zen touch, i get an error message: error code: 0x8004020 Setupwill now terminate, so the setup ends and it goes on to uninstall the creative mediasource software. I've also tried removing the Creative Zen Touch Under Device Manager, then letting it detect it again. I removed it and windows redetected, but still no fix. I'm not sure if the unit is faulty or what, again it has no problem Docking, or tranfering filesI am unable to uninstall completely with the CD, Access Recovery mode, or go anywhere but that same screen. I've only had the player for a few days, and disapointed that it doesnt even work out of the box. Thank you for your time
P.S. I sent a message quite similar to this to "Tech Support" and they told me to upgrade my Firmware (already done) and to go into recovery mode and do a disk scan or reformat (something which i can not do). Do they even read the e-mails? or what?

Your player is faulty. If you bought it somewhere local try and return it there to get a replacement. Failing that persist with support so they will issue you an RMA (Return to Manufacturer Authorisation) to get it repaired/replaced.

The link in my message leads to a great little program that lets you use the Micro with iTunes on a Mac. You can also use XNJB... so the Micro <I>does</I> work with Mac, it is just better optimized for the PC platform.

  • Problems with ripping files from my cds to Zen Touch via Mediasource pla

This is a problem I have had recently. I run Windows XP and have a Zen Touch which is a really decent player. However, just recently I have been unable to rip any CD tracks from my ample collection and put them on the Zen touch. I always get a little dialogue box which says CDrom doesn't support file ripping. Try the Recording function. It has done this even on CDs whose tracks I ACTUALLY put on the Zen touch already without any problem. Why is it doing this now?
I have tried re-installing the Zen touch cd a number of times but to no avail.
    Thanks

Thanks for that. I have been going around in frustration with this thing for a few nights. Even my husband is at a loss with it and he knows more about this stuff than I do.
I have effected a temporary solution to the problem which is to rip cd tracks using Nero Startsmart which converts them to MP3 no problem. I have also tried using the Media Player as well. Now all I have to do is download from the MP3 folder the tracks I have already ripped and load them onto the Zen.
What I don't understand about all of this is that the MediaSource Software was working okay until this month.

  • Zen Touch Still CANNOT read chin

I have bought my zen touch since last dec. Till now after trying all means, my zen touch still can't read chinese. I have followed the steps to change the language setting to chinese-prc for non-unicode programs. However, my computer started to hang after i changed the setting. I can't even launch the mediasource orgnaniser to test whether the chinese characters are displaying correctly. I have no choice but to use the system restore to restore my windows xp to an earlier date.
I have also used other players like the latest musicmatch and media player to test. The songs read correctly on the players but once I upload to zen, it turned out to be ? again.
Can the creative administrator pls advise me on that? Most of my songs are labelled in xhinese, and with this problem, i really regretted buying zen as i never expect it to have such problem.
    thanks

    candice,
You will have to change the language setting to Chinese PRC in control panel. If you encounter problem after changing those as mention by you. Then there's something wrong with the OS already. Perhaps you can try creating another user account in the OS and then try changing the language in the other account. See if you still have problem after changing those language. If there are no problem, then install the player driver/application in that account.

please can you help. i am not to happy with the zen touch computer program and would like to know how to fix this problem.
    thank you for your help
    Rob the monkey

I wonder if there are problems here associated with the use of the zen touch on SP2 machines. Interestingly I cannot transfer music from my PC to my Zen 20gb on a SP2 machine but I can do so on my sisters machine which has got SP. Obviously having the lastest firmware is a good idea though but I believe there are issues associated with SP2 and as you say you have all the latest updates to windows perhaps the problem lies there. Sorry if this doesn't help you at all

  • Zen Touch, it's firmware and how to sy

Please help, I've spent 6 hours now trying various diffent stuff from this site and others trying to get my zen touch to be picked up!
I recently upgraded the firmware on my player to version 2..0 which I had problems with doing until I discovered it's not compatible with windows media player . So installed it on girlfriends pc no problem. Now I'm back using WM0 however I can't get the Zen with it's new firmware to be recognised on either windows explorer, media player or creative mediasource so I can't sync any music back onto it!
From the new firmware from what I've read am I right in thinking I don't need drivers for it to be picked up? If so great however I've already tried installing the latest driver on pc anyway and it works but has an unknown error occuring?
PLEASE HELP! in simple english i'm pulling my hair out over this, I can't work out what I have to do to get it to be picked up. All I want is some music on my MP3 player - wish I'd left the firmware well alone now!
    thanks

    jmsheahan,
Does WMP0 works with the player now? If it isn't, try rolling back to WMP0 with these steps from Microsoft website.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ionofthePlayer
If it's working with WMP0, have you updated your copy of Mediasource and the Zen Touch Media Explorer?

  • Zen Touch upgrade prob

Hi, I upgraded my Touch to version 2 firmware, installed the latest driver and downloaded and installed all the latest versions of the Creative ap
    ps.
Since the upgrade I have had nothing but problems in trying to copy tracks to the Touch. Every app that I use including Creative Mediasource, Zen Touch Explorer, Notmad Explorer, Winamp and Windows Media Player (vers 0 and ) freezes or crashes when trying to write to the Touch. Winamp crashes straight away. WMP freezes when trying to synch. Zen Touch Explorer mostly doesn't see the Touch but freezes when it does and MediaSource sometimes manages to write a few tracks to the Touch and then freezes (or suspends, sometimes I can close it tidily). I have gone into Recovery mode and reformatted and done a cleanup, no disk errors are reported. I have reloaded the firmware and it reloads without a problem and does not report a firmware error. Windows XP reports it present as an MTB device. I have read these boards and also the nomadness boards and tried everything related to firmware upgrade problems with no success. Creative says my player is out of warrenty and won't offer any advice so I am completely out of ideas. Has anyone here had apps freezing on them after a firmware upgrade and managed to cure it's Any help would be great, thanks.

    Hi,
Sorry ot hear you are having problems.
One thing, have you upgraded to the the latest version of Media Source - 3.3. This supports MTP devices. Just curious and of course the unit should be working with WMP 0 and .
When you attach the player to the PC does it come up with a dialogue box reporting detection, successful install and asking you what you wish to do? Or do you get any notification at all?
If oyu can try re-installing Win XP SP2.
Finally are you based in the U.S?
    TIA
    John

  • Zen Touch Startup scre

You do that in the mediasource organizer under settings right? Well I've got bitmap picked out (black and white of course, but its shaded black and white?) and I told it to use it, however I never saw a "Put it on there" option. I tried syncing again but that didn't do it. When I turn it off and back on I see the Zen Touch logo again for a split second.
I want it to be this (they converted it to png, it is bmp on my comp):

  • Zen Touch freezing when trying to connect to USB 2.0 Help plea

I have a strange problem with my Creative Zen Touch 20GB. It freezes everytime when I try to connect it to my USB2.0 controller PCI card. After that I have to disconnect the player and push the reset-button. On my USB . onboard-controller the player works fine, but it's not a problem with the PCI-Card I guess, because any other device like USB2.0 external hard dri'ves and USB-sticks work fine with it.
I have Windows 98 SE installed on my computer.
Can anyone help me out with that problem please?

i had the same problem. drove me nuts............for 6 months. then I got crazy and tried sanding the usb plug ( the male end that fits into player itself. ...............Botabing.....it worked , stays connected now.
May work for you too! oh I used 400 grit sand paper

  • Changing Zen Touch Startup Scre

So I was in "Nomad Explorer", loading music onto my Zen Touch 20GB, and I clicked the settings button and I saw that I can change the startup screen, so I created a 60x04 monochrome bitmap and chose it in the settings area, and it seemed to take it, but it made no effect on my device.
Notes: I have updated with the new firmware and all online updates
    Thanks!

People are having issues with startup screens and the latest firmware, so this might be the issue.
Also the startup screen doesn't show until the player has done a full shutdown, which occurs after 24 hours.
You can simulate this though by pressing the reset button.

  • Zen Touch kinda half-recognized by comput

    Player: Zen Touch 20GB, w/ 2..0 FW
OS: WinXP SP2 ( I am an admin)
My Touch works absolutely fine on my laptop, btw, so I guess it's the computer. I did a Disc Clean-Up anyway, though nothing changed.
Problem: When I plug in my Touch, the pop-up window offers me the choice to sync with WMP or do nothing. This morning, the option to explore the contents with Windows Explorer was also there, but not anymore. I have done nothing other than turn the computer off, then on again.
The device does not show up in My Computer, as anything.
It does show up in the Device Manager, as a Windows Portable Device, a Creative Zen Touch, which is working properly, and is enabled.
What was REALLY weird was that suddenly it claimed that WMP0 wasn't installed...which it was this morning...and wanted to update to it. So I let it update itself to WMP0 (perhaps this was foolish...) and I applied the 3 hotfixes I applied the first time I got WMP0.
    windowsmedia0-kb89536-x86-enu.exe
    windowsmedia0-kb902344-x86-intl.exe
    WindowsMedia-KB8922-x86-ENU.exe
So I cannot put or get data files to/from the Touch. And I haven't really tried syncing... I tried once, and failed, then gave up since I really want to just use Windows Explorer to navigate the Touch anyway.
So I had a look at the FAQ on this site, and some of the threads, but couldn't solve the problem myself.
    What I've tried:
    - Uninstalling/reinstalling WMP0
    - Plugging the Touch into every USB port (front and back)
    - I looked in the registry (but didn't touch) to ensure that the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Enum had Everyone with Full Control under Permissions
    - Fully updated Windows via microsoft.com
    - Restarted the thread wdfmgr.exe
    - Uninstalling the Touch, then unplugging/re-plugging it back in
    - Swearing vehementally (out loud, not online...yet)
Well, anyway, if anyone has any ideas to help, or shares this difficulty, please reply.
Oh yeah, and if I'm missing some info, let me know too. Thanks.

  • OK, Zen Touch Owners, Listen Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, when I tried to update the firmware on my Zen Touch to the PlaysForSure update, all of the original firmware was removed, and I could do nothing. This happened to a lot of other users, and most of their solutions seemed to be unique to the secondary computer they used. After searching through several threads, I finally found a solution that worked when nothing else would. Thank you so much Evil_Queen_Lisa for solving the problem: Step - Before you upgrade your firmware, back up your files as they will be lost. If you are here, unfortunately this is probably too late for you, but I figured I'd add it anyway. Step 2 - If you have licensed music - back up your licenses to an external source (like a USB key)->Go to WMP ->Tools ->License Management ->backup ->select your external dri've ->backup Step 3 - Restart your computer Step 4 - In "Add or Remove Programs" with "Show Updates" selected:***Note: you MUST uninstall in this order!!***a)uninstall windows media player , restart when prompted (also refered to as "Rollback" )b)uninstall windows medial player RunTime, restart when promptedc)uninstall Microsoft User-Mode Driver Frameworks Feature Pack .0 (and not something else with a similar name like .NET), restart your computer Step 5 - Download and install windows media format 9.5 RunTime from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx FamilyId=73C2650F-BE6-4BD6-8408-FD6E7827CD8 Step 6 - In "Add or Remove Programs" with "Show Updates" selected:Uninstall all software and drivers by Creative **Note: If you have a creative sound card (like "audigy" or "soundblaster" ) be carefull not to uninstall it's drivers / software! Restart your computer Step 7 - Plug your zen into its power outlet, and from recovery mode select "clean up" Quick Suggestion by Baffled: With your Zen plugged in, go to Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager and select Portable Devices. Right-click Zen Touch, and select Uninstall. Step 8 - Download the newest driver and the firmware for your Zen from here: (make sure you have the correct player and country) http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/ Step 9 - Install the driver, and plug in your zen when prompted. If a pop up appears asking you what you want to do (ie open with WMP) just click cancel. Step 0 - Open the firmware upgrader ->click upgrade ->follow the instructionsif its successful -> CONGRATULATIONS!!! you are fixed!! I suggest you run your windows update wizard, and reinstall everything once your zen is working properly (it should work fine with WMP ). If this works for you, or doesn't, please post a reply and keep this thread ali've! Any moderators out there, please sticky this. It's a big and frustrating problem, and this is the only solution that appears to work uni'versally (three friends did this too).

Well, from the looks of things, more devices are having problems with firmware updates, without any solutions put forward from the manufacturer. Poor show, Creative.
