Trying to COMPRESS FCP file to transfer/burn to DVDPRO

I have a project in FCP, it's 45 minutes long and I need to burn it to a disc. I submitted the file to be compressed and it compressed successfully, but DVD Pro said the files were not compatible. And I used the same AUDIO and VIDEO applications to compress many times before. I keep getting an exclamation point at the top of the project in the cue. I don't know where to look under Troublshooting index to find out the answer. thanks Andy H

**this is my information...**
I'm EXPORTING a FCP project which is 45 minutes in length. I EXPORT it to COMPRESSOR. COMPRESSOR opens and shows the FILE in up LEFT box where I drag Presets. It gives me the PROJECT NAME but in the little picture box it just shows the FCP ICON. I know when I EXPORT a QT movie of a FCP project, a frame of the project appears in the little box where I drag the presets. This time it doesn't. So I don't know if that's an issue. I'm using DVD preset "DVD: Best Quality 90 minutes". It begins to compress the FCP file which takes roughly 2 hours. I check and it says it's "successful". BUT when I open DVDPRO and import the project to burn there is only ONE FILE not TWO FILES which would be the AUDIO and the VIDEO file. so DVDPRO does not recognize this and it won't burn. What do I do? THANKS for you help. Andy

I'm trying to compress a file but I get an error that "I don't have permission to access dovecot."  How do I get this permission?

I ended up doing just as you said and downloading the program seperately.  However, I'd like to point out that after I downloaded the server.app to my MBA it did allow me to compress it.  For some reason it wouldn't let me do it from the server so I could airdrop it over.  I'd only get the error previously mentioned.  Must be a server thing eh?

  • "The operation can't be completed because the disk is full" when trying to compress files

Trying to compress my files because my computer keeps saying that my startup disk is almost full. However, when I try to compress my files, I get an error that reads "The operation can't be completed because the disk is full." Does anyone know why this is happening? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks

Yes. You are trying to create more files taking up more space on the computer. Compressing files only reduces disk space used after you remove the uncompressed file.
Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion's Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • Compressing Powerpoint files

I am trying to compress a Powerpoint file to send by e-mail. It is currently 39.7mb, but when creating an archive, to zip the file, it only reduces in size to 39.0mb. Other files reduced by a little, but not by as much as I expected. Is there something I am missing when trying to compress the files?
    Thanks

You're not "missing" anything. Some forms of compression are better than others, but most importantly the content of the file will have a big impact on how effective compression is (e.g. if there are embedded video media, those will not compress much).
One possibility is to save the file as a PDF (if you just want the recipient to view the slides, not edit the file).
You could consider alternatives such as FileChute, or splitting the file before sending it (e.g. with something like Split&Concat.
    Hope this helps...

  • Finished FCP file too big to burn and quality is needed.. Please helpp me

I've just completed a 40 minute project that i've been working on for months on Final Cut Pro 5.1.4. I exported it as a Quicktime movie and the finished product is 8.8 GIGS. I have both iDVD and Toast, and have tried for the last two days straight to get the file on a DVD with no success. The major factor is that i don't want to compromise the videos quality that much because it is filled with fast moving transitions and color filters. I've tried burning it directly with both Toast and also iDVD, thinking that the compression tools may take care of it and salvage the quality, but both programs were unsuccessful. I've tried making an iDVD file and saving it as a Disk image, then burning with Toast but the quality was extremely jittery and off color. I am out of ideas! I would really just like this 8.8 GB FCP movie file to be on a DVD with some good old quality. If anyone is willing to help I would be more than grateful. Like I said i own iDVD, Toast 10 and FCP (if a different application is what I need then please enlighten me). I'd even be willing to make this a data disk if that's the best way to salvage its quality, but I'm also unknowlegeable about how to compress it and do that (help with that would be appreciated also). I'm sure it is possible to get this to a playable disk, whether it is a DVD or not.. beggars cant be choosers, i just need the best quality possible. Thank you to whoever's brilliant mind is capable of helping me through this pain and frustration.

I am not sure if all of the clips are DV-NTSC. I would guess no, a good portion of the sequence is imported forage from a video camera but it is combined with videos taken by a digital camera and I also included a segment ripped from a DVD by the program Handbrake. (The video is a compilation of clips for friends that I studied abroad with)
Yes, I made sure everything was rendered before I exported it.
The file that I attempted to burn was a Quicktime Movie and I did make it self-contained. I am currently exporting an .avi copy through Quicktime Conversion in an attempt to try something different. Would making it a reference file shrink it enough to fit a DVD?
There may have been another app running while I attempted to burn, but I left the computer after I began the burn so there was no activity by myself during the process. I was running other apps as I exported the file from FCP.
I have been working on this for about a month and it has eaten up a lot of my hard drive, which was running low to begin with. There has been about 20 GB every time I’ve attempted a burn. I believe I have about 16 now which I can free easily. The scratch with the captured footage is on an external passport HD connected by a USB. My passport HD was the only thing connected through USB at the time, my mouse and keyboard are Bluetooth.
Im planning on attempting to burn with this .avi copy that I have just made (which probably wont work now that im thinking about it) and then ill try making a reference movie of the project and attempting a burn. Thank you for all your help Martin its extremely helpful.

  • I need some advice on compressing a FCP file to archive in Premiere

Here's the situation. I have edited a few projects on FCP - they range from 1 - 2 hours. The client wants a copy to archive on their PC, which has Premiere Pro. I had originally compressed these files to the highest quality H.264, but this resulted in HUGE file sizes that I can't burn onto a data DVD or transfer to the PC due to the FAT32 limitations. I would love some advice on if anyone's done this before and what settings you've used - it needs to look really good so that if needed, this video could be edited more in the future. Thanks for the advice!

    Send them tape.

Try exporting the sequence as a self-contained file using "current settings". This should result in one file with all the quality of what was on the timeline. Make sure this is in a folder located on your scratch (non-system) drive.
Then, open up Compressor, drag in the just created file, apply the "DVD best 90 minutes" preset making sure both the m2v and ac3 compressor actions are included and set the output directory to "Source".
    Let it run.
Do you have .m2v and .ac3 files located in the same folder as the original self contained .mov file when complete?

  • Trying to zip / compress a file in Windows Server 2008 & SQL Server 2008 R2 server

    Hi,
We are trying to zip / compress a xml file that has been created by retrieving data from SQL Server 2008 R2 database running on Windows Server 2008.
To compress this file, we cannot use any external softwares like 7-zip or WinZip.
So, we would like to know if there is any windows default compression tool that works on command line to compress the file?
As this is a live server we cannot apply any other softwares.
Please suggest any ways to do it in Windows Server 2008 machine.
    Thanks & Regards

I was trying to burn a DVD from files in a burn folder. They were pictures from my Nikon camera. I can play videos and movies from the same dvd player.    Thanks for any help you can offer,

    Thanks for your reply:
I did find an error log related to the error code and tried all suggestions on the list of recommendations, still no luck
I definitely am running OS X10.5.8 (hopefully will be updating later on this month)
I tried several brand new discs from the same box, still no luck.
My last option is to go out and try a different brand, guess I'll go with Verbatim this time but I think I'll poke around some more before buying 20 more new discs.

  • Old FCP file unexpectedly quitting when trying to reconnect offline media

An old project that I transfered from one computer to my new mac pro is not working.
When I open the FCP file it asks me to choose a scaling quality. Either: Normal, Fastest, or best. I have tried all three (with the same result.)
Next it says 152 media files are offline and 28 render files are offline. I kept all these files in the same folder when I transfered the project to my new computer, so I thought I would simply reconnect them. I click "reconnect," search for the first file, find it, and click it. As soon as I click the name of the file, not "choose," just the name of the media file, FCP unexpectedly quits. I click report and send the automatic message to Apple. It is really long, but if you want I can post that message. If any one has any ideas or could offer some help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot for your time!
    Peace,
    Andrew

Let me know if this isn't right or if you want the first part, or what follows this. Thanks a lot!

Premiere Elements 13 on Windows 7 (presumed 64 bit).....
    1. Music files and error message...are these music files from iTunes? If so, convert them to .wav in iTunes to convert them to wav version, and then import the .wav version into Premiere Elements 13 project using Premiere Elements 13 Expert workspace's Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets from where you drag the wav version to the Soundtrack.
The following are the instructions for the iTunes converting
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT1550
If any problems with the instructions, please let me know, and I will go through them with you.
    2. How you set up the project and the export settings that you select greatly influence your end product result.
    a. What are the properties of the source media?
    b. What project preset did you (manually) or the project (automatically) set to match the properties of the source media.
(If you do not know, please tell us what you see for the readings of Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, Pixel Aspect Ratio - even
if the fields look grayed out.)
    c. For your export...Publish+Share/Computer/and then what? And what preset? Did you use the default settings of the preset or did you
customize the export settings of the preset under the preset's Advanced Button/Video Tab and Audio Tab?
Let us start here and then decide what next.
    Thanks.

No, just a reminder that you should do so beforehand, which you have already done.

I need to burn a cd from itunes. There is no burn option...at all. I've tried right-clicking and file command. Please help

I have Windows 7 on a Dell.  Open and play iTunes in the compatability mode and use Windows XP (service pack 2).  Disregard any messsages to disable the compability mode.  This has worked for me.  I have also reinstalled iTunes and played with burn speeds etc.  These ideas did not work.  Compatability mode works.

  • How do you burn videos taken with myIphone and stored on my computer to a DVD disc.  I purchased and tried using RealPlayer Plus 16 but got error message saying "unsopported media type"?  I alos tried using Real Players file converter with no success!

How do you burn videos taken with my Iphone 4S and stored on my computer to a DVD disc.  I purchased and tried using RealPlayer Plus 16 but got error message saying "unsopported media type"?  I also tried using Real Players file converter with no success!  Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Probably the OP is no longer paying attention to this unless the OP is subscribed to this discussion.  While not really an iPhone question I guess using an iPhone to produce the movie which then needs taking to the next step makes this as good a starting place as any unless you happen to know enough about what to do to determine in which forum to post.  A suggestion in that direction would help.
Anyway, Apple is backing off from supporting optical media.  It also depends upon what you mean by "DVD".  A DVD is just an optical disc which can support different file formats, but many people think it means a movie disc you can put in your TV.  Producing a movie disc requires special iDVD authoring software Apple used to sell but stopped several years ago.  I don't know if the old versions work under newer systems.  There's also the free Burn application which authors DVDs but takes a bit of learning and has nowhere near the features of iDVD.
If the OP means simply burning the transferred movie files to a DVD for archiving in computer format you don't need special software for that; its built into the operating system File > New Burn folder etc.

  • When i send a file over iChat to another mac it compresses the file, where is this compressed file stored?

Today i was transfering a few folders with pictures and videos over to another mac and I noticed that before i sent the file iChat would compress it.  Now this is understandable because they were fairly large files, over 2GB, and this would make them transfer faster.  The problem is that I was transfering the files because my mac is low on hard drive space and I was trying to free some up.  By compressing the files first it was using up more space on my hard drive and I quickly cancelled the compression.  I soon realized though that my hard drive space was still disappearing into thin air. I only had 6GB left and was running out fast.  As it reached 2GB I began to quickly delete large files I no longer needed hoping that I wouldn't run out of space. It dropped all the way down to 12.4MB before it finally stopped, even with me deleting files.  I'm not quite sure what was happening to all of my hard drive space, but was wondering if maybe iChat continued to compress the files even after I cancelled the compression.  Anyways if anyone knows why this happened or where iChat stores the files it compresses that would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
I have heard of this before.
One report suggested it was only PDF files their case.
I cannot replicate it with any pic files (Over 2Gb) PDF or otherwise or files and folders combos.
My tests were from Lion/iChat 6.0.3 to Snow Leopard (iChat 5.0.3)
I would have thought iChat would have created the Zippped/Stuffed files in the same folder as the original items
(i.e pic in the pictures folder (or relevant subfolder) and other files and documents in the Documents folder.
With any application that does Stuffing/Zipping it will create temporary space for doing so.
Much like the way a graphics app creates a Scratch file to keep the 20 or so Undos it works with.  (with graphic Apps you can make the Scratch file on another Drive if you have one which can help)
    Do this:-
with iChat Open go to the Window Menu.
    Select the File transfers item
In this Window (that pops up) select the File that was going to be Transferred.
When it is highlighted then do a Right-Click or Control Click and select the option to Show in Finder
Does it list the zipped file ?
