  • Requeriments OS for installation Oracle 11g RAC  in Windows 2003

    I plan to install Oracle 11g Standard with RAC in Windows 2003 Server.
    I will use 2 nodes with the same OS.
    I will use a SAN with fibre channel, to store the DB.
    It is possible to install Oracle RAC in W2003 Standard ?
    I need obligatory W2003 Enterprise?
    The cluster of the 2 nodes is made by OS or by Oracle Clusterware?
    Thanks in advance.

    You can install on Windows 2003 Standard, it works with this OS. On the other hand the cluster is configured by the oracle clusterware. You need to make absolutely sure you are able to write from both nodes to the shared storage. Specific details on the regedit parameters you have to configure and specific OS issues are detailed at the above reference Werner posted.

  • Advantages/Disadvantages of installing Oracle RAC on Windows 2003 VS Linux

    Hello Guys,
    I am not very good with linux, have to create a Oracle RAC environment using dataabse 10g.
    I just need to know the advantages/disadvantages of configuring RAC on windows and on linux operating system.
    Please help me with this. Please also specify what is the best available windows and linux version to configure RAC.
    Regards,
    Imran

    Go with th eOS you have the skills in, if you have onsite expertise in windows then it makes no sense to use Linux because some guy on the internet says its better. Windows can be a highly available server OS when is managed by professional well quallified adminstrators.
    Personally I would use linux because I am more familiar with the OS than windows. I also find oracle makes more sense on a *NIX type platform but there are shops that run oracle on windows with the required high availability.

  • RAC 10g windows 2003 with ocfs

    Hello,
    I have a problem...
    How make to install the ocfs in the windows 2003?
    Somebody can help me with some documentation or step-by-step?
    tanks.

    Hi,
    OCFS has nothing compare with ORACLE_HOME.
    OCFS is only a Filesytem how you can format the drives.
    And with this drives you can schare over OCFS drivers the disks over multiple servers.
    ASM is a Oracle Product and a very small Database how managed the Files so a Oracle_home is needed by ASM while example you can applay patches to ASM for bugs etc...

  • Shared storeage on windows 2003

    Hi,
    we tried to install rac on windows 2003.we created the raw.i could n't move the shared storage screen.
    we did six partition for raw like 300mb,300mb,600mb,30gb,5gb,1gb.
    or
    how to install OCFS2 for windows 2003 and where can i get the download?
    please help me out that
    Edited by: user3266490 on Aug 31, 2009 11:19 AM

    Hello,
    If you will use raw devices, you must use a map file and put the complete path on DBCA. I'm suposing 10g installation.
    Map file sample:
    system=/my_shared_storage/mydev_raw1
    sysaux=/my_shared_storage/mydev_raw2
    ... another tablespaces
    redo1_1=/my_shared_storage/mydev_raw3
    redo1_2=/my_shared_storage/mydev_raw4
    redo2_1=/my_shared_storage/mydev_raw5
    redo2_2=/my_shared_storage/mydev_raw6
    control1=/my_shared_storage/mydev_raw7
    control2=/my_shared_storage/mydev_raw8
    spfile=/my_shared_storage/mydev_raw9
    pwdfile=/my_shared_storage/mydev_raw10
    Look at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14205/storage.htm#sthref800
    I recommend to you use of ASM as storage option, the management is very simple than raw devices management.

  • Oracle 9i RAC setup on Windows 2003.

    Hi All,
    I am trying to setup the installtion for Oracle 9i RAC on Windows 2003 platform.I am running with the follwing Questions.
    1. How to setup the Cluser Files System on the Windows?
    My Understainding : I need to have one shared disk so that I can create the Extended Unformateed partition on it and then Set the appropriate logical drive size for each tablespace datafile.
    Questions : 1.1 Like I have three WIndows 2003 servers.Can I add this shared disk on any Server and use it.?
    2. HOw to install the Cluster databas eon it?

    Hi,
    Above all, I noticed that 2 similar threads are created before with one deleted and one locked. So do you still have the same issue?
    Back to the case, please test to failover to the second node to see if it still cannot see these folders.
    If you have any feedback on our support, please send to [email protected]

  • 10g RAC on Oracle VM/Windows 2003 server

    Is there any documentation/thread/blog which describes installation of 10g clusterware on Windows 2003 VM on Oracle VM 2.1.2 using just direct attached storage? I created 2 Windows 2003 VMs. For OCR and Voting disks, I created shared virtual disks. These disks are visible from both VMs. When I try to install clusterware, both VMs blue screen about 50% into install. The error in CRS logs points to OCR disks not being in correct format. I have tested same process with VMWare server and it works fine. Do I need to do something different for Oracle VM?
    BTW this is not my first time installing RAC on Windows 2003. I have done more installations than I care to remember but always on physical servers. I followed the same process as I do for physical servers but it seems that Oracle VM does not like the shared virtual disks.
    Thanks...

    Check out my articles at http://dbasupport.com on 10g R2 RAC Clusterware setup. I was able to do that on my vmware BUT I hope to have the very irritating ASM scenario done before my 4th Article.
    Check it out.

  • 10g RAC setup trouble in Windows 2003 env.

    Hello, guys,
    I had trouble in setup 10g RAC in Windows 2003 env.
    Environment is following.
    * Two PC which have two LAN cards which one is connected public network, other is connected internal network.
    And Two PC have SCSI card connected shared disk. Share disk is setup logical drive, not assigned drive letter.
    * PC's OS is Windows2003 Enterprise Server. OS is installed clean, not contain previous oracle.
    Due to install manual, At first setup CRS, second setup 10g. So I setup CRS at firast. During CRS setup, I input two PC's public name and private name in installing node window and proceed setup, setup program install program into two PC at the same time. But setup failed in last service configuration window, and CRS service can't start.
    I checked error message in log file, error is about registry... I can't find cause.
    Do you know how to setup CRS into two PC?

    I could resolve this trouble.
    Cause is that shared disk settig is affected. Another side PC can't mapped drive letter, so I assigned drive letter manually, and reboot both PC.
    After that, OracleCRService, OracleCSService, OracleEVMService could run.
    Thanks

    *     internal Oracle error
    After resolving the problem that prevented DCM from updating the configuration

  • Installin Oracle 10g rel 2 on windows 2003 server

    Hi
    I am trying to install oracle10g on windows 2003 server standard edition SP1. When i run the OUI i get the following error.
    OUI-10133:Invalid staging area. There are no top
    level components for Windows Nt or Windows 2000 area. And i am not able to install.
    Can somebody help in this.
    Thanks

    This is a problem with the media.
    I suggest copying all the files to a local hard disk and running the installer from there. I don't have good luck installing from CD with Oracle's databases - not sure why. I never have a problem (and it's WAY faster) installing from disk. You can erase the 800 MB of files after the install if you need the space.

  • MacBook 10.4.7 not talking to Windows 2003/Exchange server

    Hi folks
    Have a new MacBook 2GHz running 10.4.7, trying to talk to a Windows 2003 network at work. Services needed are Exchange server support (for Microsoft Entourage) and some shared drives over a domain on the Windows server machine. Experiencing problems with both!
    Re. shared drives, browsing the network via Finder window sporadically shows up some or all of the Windows machines connected to the network, and the shared drive. It is possible to connect to some of the Windows machines directly, although this is inconsistent. However when attempting to connect to the shared drive, the alias appears correctly, but filling in the details (workgroup, name and password) just leads to an error message saying that the alias could not be found, with the option to delete or fix the alias. Fixing opens up another Finder window but the network is greyed out so you can't point to the shared drive!
    Attempting to connect via Connect To Server, either by browsing or entering the smb address line, also allows one to enter the workgroup, name and password, but simply says 'could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct' (even though it is).
    Firewall is on but allowing Windows Sharing. AppleTalk is active. Connecting over a wireless network but ethernet connection seems to make no odds.
    In terms of Entourage, the system simply wont find the Exchange server, which I'm presuming may be symptomatic of whatever is causing the above!
    Any help/ideas/thoughts most gratefully received.
    Cheers
    Dan
    MacBook 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    I hope this helps.  But, Apple has confirmed a significant bug in 10.7.4 that breaks SMB.  Their support says they are working on it, but they do not know when the fix will be released.  It has broken SMB at all sites I support including my own location where Lion server has the updated version as well.  Only AFP works but not consistently.  The suggestion is to restore 10.7.3 from a backup or wait until the fix is released.  SMB does work - but only when admin authentication is used on Mac servers - don't know about Windows Servers.  I do know the client side of Mac's also are affected with SMB issues.  Good luck!
