Trying to configure wifi throughout a large home

I have a large home that has an upstairs, basement, and studio in the backyard. I need to set up wifi throughout the whole house and to the studio. Currently there are Ethernet connections in 7 locations of the house including 1 in the studio. There is no Ethernet Jack upstairs. As for the equipment I have setup; there is a dlink modem which connects to a lynksys wireless router which is all located in the basement that then gets routed to the 7 locations mentioned above. Now in the office i have a airport extreme 802.11n connected to a port from the basement. I have a laptop connected to by Ethernet to this airport extreme. Now everything else is hardwired but also there are 3 airport express units that I want to use to extend the wifi throughout the property. How can I make this all work? Right now he Internet doesn't work b/c I tinkered with the airport express which interfered somehow and now even connected by Ethernet the iternet won't work. And I know that he problem is somewhere after the lynksys wireless router b/c if I plug right into the modem I get Internet. So I had not messed with the settings of the airport extreme at all only the express. So why is my connection all screwed up?at the moment I am at a loss because I can't even go back to the way it was without wifi. I am typing this from my iPhone so I apologize if it is difficult to understand. I hope possibly someone can shed some light on this matter but I will definately call apple tomorrow.

It sounds like you need to reset and reconfigure the Linksys router.
Once you get the Linksys working correctly, then you would want to configure the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to create a wireless network and act as a bridge (not sharing an IP address). The clients connecting to the AEBS will get an IP address from the Linksys.
If you want to use the AirPort Express (AX) to wirelessly extend the network provided by the AEBS you will either need to use 802.11g's WDS or 802.11n's "extend network" feature. The AEBS will also need to use a different SSID (network name) than the one used by the Linksys.
If the AEBS and all of the AX are 802.11n capable, then configure the AEBS to allow itself to be extended. The configure the AX to extend a wireless network.
If either the AEBS or the AXs are not 802.11n capable, then configure the AEBS to act as a WDS main base station and the AXs to act as WDS remote base stations.

Thanks for that link. Got it downloaded.
It appears that something is wrong with my laptop... because the downloaded file stalls at the same point as the disc. While it still says "Installing Shared components". This is when the green progress bars stop(about 10% of the way) and the HDD activiity light on the laptop stops as well.
Back when I reinstalled windows, I had some issues updating. Once I got to a certain point, one of the updates would render my laptop screen completely blank.... so after reinstalling a few times, I stopped installing updates at a certain point... though I did make it to Service Pack 2.
That's the only reason I can think of, as to why the program won't install. It's really odd.
BTW: I did shut down the antivirus while attemptinng Premiere install.

Trying to add another DB under SCAN via DBCA "Default listener LISTENER is not Configured in the grid infrastructure home"

Trying to install another DB under RAC using SCAN listener on a new port. DBCA gives error "Default listener LISTENER is not Configured in the grid infrasturcture home".
Have tried srvctl config listener, srvctl start listener to start the listener. Still not able to get past the DBCA error. What am I missing? Do not want to start LISTENER on port 1521 as SCAN is running on 1521.

No your Database config does use hostname/ip + port or a tns-entry pointing to the local_listener. Neither method does care for the home the listener is running from.
You will however have to take care of the entries in the clusterware, as the listener is a controlled resource. If you manually relocate it, then it will only work until next restart of crs stack.
The simplest way to switch the home is by running first netca from database home and delete the listener and then switch to grid home run netca again and create the listener.
netca will take care of registering it with crs with the correct environment settings. You will have a short period where your rac won't have a listener and therefore won't accept new connections until the new listener is up and running.
Relocating the current listener requires to modify several parameters via crsctl in the cluster registry, but allows doing this node by node without complete outage.
If you want to go that way, then create another listener from grid home and compare the settings of current listener and of the new listener. You will need to update several parameter before you can relocate it.
Run this command to show the current settings and compare it to the listener from grid home:
crsctl stat res ora.LISTENER.lsnr -p
You will need to modify serveral parameters, ACTION_SCRIPT,AGENT_FILENAME,ALIAS_NAME,ORACLE_HOME and the ACL
Modify works like this, for ACL you must use the encasing single apostrophe ' and run it as root:
crsctl modify res ora.LISTENER.lsnr -attr "ACL='owner:oracle:rwx,pgrp:oinstall:rwx,other::r--'"
I would recommend Version 1 if short outage is acceptable. For both variants verify that you can resolve all tnsnames entries in both homes.

My Time Capsule has stopped working after I tried to configure an extended wifi network

My Time Capsule was working fine until I tried to configure it with an extended bridge. Now either the amber light is solid or the solid amber comes on for awhile and then goes completely out.
The AirPort Utility says that there is no internet connection, the DNS settings are wrong, and that the disk need to be repaired. Using Disk Utility, the Time Capsule does not even show up so that I can repair it.
I am running OSX 10.7.5, and besides the Time Capsule I have a Vonage Motorola (VT2442-VD) for VOIP, which of course is not working because it was connected behind the Time Capsule.
I'm in Italy and cannot call Apple directly since I now do not have phone service.
Any suggestions how I can check/repair the Time Capsule, and then configure it properly to my satellite broadband?

How old is the TC?? The LED should never go solid amber.. that indicates disk failure.
Or completely out.. that indicates power supply failure.
As a note you cannot extend wireless to a non apple wireless router... you can only plug in by ethernet and use the TC to create a wireless network.. this can have the same name as the main router,, same SSID in other words and same security but set to different channel..

WiFi Setup in Large House multiple Apple Hardware Devices -Help Please!

I have tried to solve my wifi issues over the past months, but I am stuck. I recognize that this is a little involved, so let me apologize in advance.
I do not expect someone to be willing to take the time regarding this, but if someone could at least read this and give me some general pointers, that would be great.
Highlights of current problems - we cannot consistently print documents from our printer, which is connected via an airport express (note that the airport express is wired to the internet with Cat 5e, we cannot consistently stream itunes music, we have too many separate wifi networks - we prefer one wifi network, if possible. Most recently, I have been trying to extend or join my own existing networks, and I do not understand the difference in terminology, and in any event, neither attempts worked as I kept getting error messages and the amber lights stayed on.
Goals - We would like to have seemless wifi throughout our old, larger sized house with ability to stream iTunes music from an apple computer or via Airtunes from an iPhone, and print from any computer or from any iPhone or iPod, and ability for guests to join wifi with a password and have such connection be good throughout our house. I prefer not to have to manually select different wifi networks as we move around the house with an iPhone or Macbook Pro. Also, I often get prompted for wifi passwords (depending on which of my airport expresses comes into range) and I would like to avoid putting the passwords in each time. Or one signal gets weak and my device does not know that it should switch to the wifi network with better reception. I would like to be able to walk from point A to point B and have my wifi connection work continuously behind the scenes. And I would like to be able to play music on receiver, and control same via our iPhone and iPods.
Hardware -
Basement: Verizon Fios wireless Router, Ethernet Network switch with multiple Cat 5e ethernet cables going to different locations in the house.
1st Floor: Macbook Pro connected to internet via ethernet; 1 previous generation Airport Express connected to internet via ethernet, with a printer cable going from Airport Express to a printer and an audio capable going from Airport Express to a receiver. If possible, I would like that same Airport Express to provide wireless access. I also have a non-apple wifi device that is recessed in the ceiling, I think it is by On Q/Legran and this non-Apple wifi device is connected via ethernet.
2nd Floor: Older generation iMac (purchased in around 2005) that is not connected to ethernet, 1 Airport Express (new version) connected to ethernet; 1 additional Airport Express (new version) connected to ethernet; 2nd MacBook Pro which relies on Airport Express.
3rd Floor: Apple Time Capsule connected via ethernet cable, Apple TV sitting right next to Apple Time Capsule, with HDMI cable running from Apple TV to home theater receiver.

To achieve having "one" wireless network throughout the house, we just need to configure all of your base stations for a "roaming" network. With this type of network, a laptop could literally roam from room-to-room and still be on the "same" network.
You already have one of most important parts of this type of network and that is you have an Ethernet infrastructure where you want wireless to be provided.
The FiOS router should not need any configuration changes.
Setup the 802.11b/g AirPort Express Base Station (AX), 802.11n AirPort Express Base Stations (AXn), & Time Capsule (TC) as bridges:
o AirPort Utility > Select the base station > Manual Setup > Internet > Internet Connection > Connection Sharing: Off (Bridge Mode)
For each AX, AXn, & TC in the roaming network:
o Connect to the same subnet of the Ethernet network, i.e., they should all connect back to the Ethernet switch at the FiOS router.
o Provide a unique Base Station Name
o The Network Name should be identical
o If using security, use the same encryption type (WEP, WPA, etc.) and password.
o Make sure that the channel is set at least three channels apart from the next base station to prevent Wi-Fi interference.

The computer "connects to the wifi," but browsers and other internet-dependent software do not work. Curiously, if I connect the ethernet cord that doesn't work either. Usually if I reset the modem to factory settings twice (for some reason, once doesn't do the trick), my computer will fully connect to the wifi. However, in a few days, it goes back to not working.
Today, resetting the modem didn't work. I could only get wifi connection while in safe mode, but not in normal mode. So, the issue seems to be software not hardware. I have tried starting new accounts in normal mode, but those also don't connect properly to internet.
Not sure if this is relevant, but this problem started when my building switched internet providers from ComHem to Telia (I live in Sweden).
What do you recommend I do?

Not unless the modem is causing a problem.
What you want to do is get it to work reliably over Ethernet first, then tackle wifi. Power off the modem. On your macbook, delete the Ethernet configuration and the Wifi configuration. Power up the modem, then connect the mac via Ethernet. Create the new Ethernet configuration and see if you can connect.

IPad (3rd gen) losing wifi connection during large downloads

Hi,
I am having a problem with my iPad 3rd generation (wifi only, 64GB) running iOS 6.1.3.
When I download large files (e.g. via the iTunes app, the BBC iPlayer app, The Economist app), my iPad almost always loses wifi connection a minute or two into the download, and often stays disconnected until I go into Settings > Wifi and select my home network again. If I resume the download in relevant application, the same issue will typically recur within a minute or two.
I am not having any other problems with this iPad - general internet browsing / streaming of video has been fine. I originally thought the issue was only with the BBC iPlayer app, but sadly have found it to be more widespread.
I have tried to "forget this network", resetting network settings, restoring my entire iPad (twice), and resetting all settings - none of these have stopped the issue. Interestingly, during the first restore of the iPad I received ugly BIOS-esque messages relating to AppleBCMWLANCore, which disappeared after a hard reboot (power + home buttons together), and did not recur on the 2nd restore.
Anyone else experiencing something similar? Any suggestions to fix this?

Locate the iPad as close as possible to your router.
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app

    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

I have a 1st gen iPhone that I just updated the software to 2.0.2
Now whenever I press the mail icon it goes to the mail app for about 4 seconds, does nothing, no loading of folders, old messages, nothing.
Then it reverts back to the home screen. Tried restarting, haven't tried restoring, thought I'd look here first.

Large Home Wireless Coverage

Good evening,
I have a fairly large home and I have grown tired of my lack of reliable wireless coverage. I would like to update to the various apple components for my wireless and wired networking needs. Bob, I have read many of your posts and am intrigued and have a few questions. If I bought multiple airport extreme devices would I be able to link them together via cat6 to form one large wireless network? I am probably looking at 4 to 5 devices due to the large amount of concrete and steel that was used in the building of the house. I ran many lengths of cat6 so that is available to me. I am using two airport extremes to extend my network throughout the house. I have them linked using cat 6 cable just as you are suggesting. If you follow the setup instructions in the manual for setting up a roaming network it works without any problems. Just pay attention to how you connect the extremes to each other and set all the downstream one to bridge mode. The first one serves as the DHCP server for the network. All of them must have the same network name, and password.

ORA-24327 error when trying to configure Oracle JDriver 2.0 on Commerce Server 3.5 SP1 on WLServer 6.0 SP2

When I try to install and configure the Oracle JDriver v.2.0 to work with Commerce
Server 3.5 SP1 and WebLogic Server 6.0 SP2, on starting up the commerce server,
I get the exceptions that follow this message. I cannot run the dbping utility
because it says it cannot find the BEA license file to verify that JDriver is
licensed for use. I looked over previous discussion threads on this particular
Oracle error, and the problem in the previous cases appears to have been use of
the wrong TNS name. I am referencing the same TNS name that is in my server's
tnsnames.ora file. I can connect to the database using SQLNet and the same connection
parameters that I have set up in weblogic. My Oracle home directory is set to
the directory just above the client install. I am trying to configure Commerce
Server on a Sun SPARC system running Solaris 8. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can't locate my photos, apps and music on my wife's iTunes via home sharing

Hi. My wife and I share a macbook, with different user profiles. To date we've been using the one itunes, on my wife's profile, but it plays up a bit, gets us confused etc, so I've set up a new itunes on my profile and am trying to import my music, apps and photos from my wife's itunes via home sharing (using her apple id in both for home sharing purposes). But I can't seem to find her itunes library in my itunes library. Any ideas?

Does anybody know how I can get iTunes to find all of my songs it their new folder without me doing it one by one myself? Thanks

I get an "SSL" error when trying to configure my mail settings with Gmail.

I have been trying to configure Gmail on my IPod and I keep getting a message that it cannot connect with SSL. I did not have this problem on my old IPod, which I replaced recently. I restored the settings on my new IPod from a backup on my computer and everything else has been working fine except the mail. Has anyone else had a a problem with Gmail? Any way I can get around it?

button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Trying to add a WRT610n to my home network. When I try to connect to the router from my XP desktop with a CAT5 cable it does not see it. Was able to connect from my Vista laptop both with a CAT 5 and wirelessly. Changed the router IP address to 192.168.2.1 as instructed by tech support. Desktop still does not see the router. Connect desktop to Westell wireless modem/router with a CAT 5 - no problem. Also connected the desk top to a regular router no problem..
Got no help from tech support - was told that it's not their problem so it must be a computer hardware problem. If it was a hardware issue with my computer then why didn't I have a problem with the other two routers?
I am sure it is a configuration problem but I can not get any support for Linksys? Any ideas?

Well you need to assign the static DNS to the pc in the range of the new lan ip 192.168.2.1 & you will be able to go online wired & wirelessly.

I understand that you have to enter the password every time you access a known network. This can be expected behavior if this is how these access points are configured. However, go through these steps in the article below as they may help.
