Trying to connect from airport extreme to WGT624v3..

I have 3 machines on my network. 2 Microsoft XP machines and 1 MacIntosh G5 Power PC 2 Ghz 1.5 Gig of RAM and 10.4.10 Mac X. I had a netgear router (the one listed in the title) and it's configured to run G only and to use WPA. I configured the router to accept either AES or TKIP. Both of my PCs are great and working fine with the netgear router.
So on Friday I purchased a Airport Wireless card for my G5 desktop. I installed it and updated the drivers to 4.2. I know with WEP using the mac connecting to a netgear you have to put a $ before the password. However that isn't a problem with WPA. I configured a new network location with the correct network name and the correct wpa password. It keeps telling me that it can't connect to network. The Mac does not see the router. It sees one of my neighbors networks, but not mine. I configured it to use channel 11 which is what I am running the netgear off of. Any ideas? Did I explain it enough? Thanks guys.

DawgsRulz, Welcome to the discussion area!
Do you have your router configured to broadcast the SSID? If you do, disable that feature. It doesn't add any security.
If you are unable or won't disable that feature, you will need to go to the AirPort menu and select "Other...". Then you will need to enter the name of your network.

  • I am trying to connect an airport extreme to extend my wifi coverage and it doesn't work

I hope someone can help me.
I have an Apple Airport extreme gen 5.  I have a BT router/modem that I connect to my broadband and its signal is OK but not great.  I have multiple apple devices, a windows PC, and a Panasonic smart TV.
I also use Belkin poweline adaptors to attach the TV and apple TV to my network - its flaky.
I was trying to attach the airport extreme to a powline adaptor in the lounge to extend my wireless network - it was green for a while but then flashed orange and stopped working.
I have now reattached it directly to my router in the same room with an Ethernet cable and still get the orange light and the airport utility keeps asking to attach to the WAN port but then nothing works - I can still acccess the internet through my existing bt modem/router.
    Any ideas please?

Click the Wireless tab just below the row of icons
Make sure that the setting for Wireless Mode is set to Create a wireless network
The Wireless Network name would be the same name as the BT network
The Wireless Security would be the same setting that the BT router is using....should be WPA2 Personal or WPA/WPA Personal
The Wireless Password would be the same password as the BT network
    Verify Password
    Click the Internet icon
Click the Internet Connection tab just below the icon
The setting for Connect Using should be Ethernet
The setting for Connection Sharing should be Off (Bridge Mode)
Click the Update button at lower right of the window and allow a full minute for the AirPort to restart
Power off both the BT modem/router and the AirPort
    Wait a minute
Power up the BT device first for a few minutes
    Then, power up the AirPort
Everything above is a "quick fix".  If that does not work, we will have to start all over again from scratch.

  • Macbook Pro trying to connect to Airport Extreme I no longer own

I used to own an Airport Extreme which I used to run backups on my Macbook Pro, but got rid of it over a year ago. Then a few days ago, after a software update, I've started getting the following error message when I wake my macbook up from sleep "there was a problem connecting to the server airport extreme". I've checked the Airport Utility and it doesn't think there is an Airport Extreme connected. I can't find anything running in the background either, but then I'm not super techie, so its quite possible I'm not looking for the right things in the right places. Its starting to drive me a bit potty as I can't find anything similar in a google search either, so I'd be grateful if someone could help me work out what to do about it (preferably by giving me simple step by step instructions!). Thanks

    Clean install the OS..
Sorry but if you have deleted all the plist files it would be gone.. but upgrade installs of Yosemite are so buggy.. just start over..
Use the existing TM backup to restore your files.. of course take great care doing this and if you need to make a new clean backup to a usb drive plugged directly to the computer.. a disk image can also add to the security of your files.
This is OS problem .. not the TC which is no longer even there.

  • Trying to connect to Airport Extreme with Dell Wireless 1370 and Windows XP

Home network using Airport Extreme Base Station with WPA-PSK (TKIP) Security. All works well with MACs in the house (G5, iMac, and Powerbook). Trying to connect a Dell Latitude D610 with built-in Dell Wireless 1370 WLAN mini-PCI Card to the home network.
Initially home network is not seen on Dell Laptop in available networks (as expected as it has not been added to list of available networks and is a "closed" network)although I do see the neighbors network so card is working and sees "open" networks.
Set-up options for the Dell 1370 card include:
    Network Name (SSID)
Network Authentication (Includes "open", "shared", "802.1X", "WPA", "WPA-PSK", and "CCKM")
Data Encryption (When WPA-PSK is selected it defaults to Auto)
    Network Key
    Confirm Key
All other configuration items are greyed out.
I enter my SSID, select WPA-PSK, Data Encryption defaults to auto, tried entering passwrod in Network Key and Confirm Key which does not seem to work. Adds to list of preferred networks but does not indicate availability.
Question is I have a password that I use on MACs for access to WPA-PSK network. On the Dell there is no spot for a password and it does not seem to work in the Network Key or Confirm Key boxes.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Open (broadcast your SSID) your network and see if that makes a difference.
Often (especially in crowded airwaves) a closed network can cause connection issues for some adapters.

I am getting a "connection timeout" message when trying to access my Airport Extreme with various laptops, Play Station 3 and Wii. My Airport Extreme is about a month old; it was working fine until about a week ago. Suddenly, the "timeout" is not allowing me to connect to my wireless network.

It could be that there's a new source of interference.

  • How to access a USB disk drive connected to Airport Extreme from a Windows 7 PC?

How can I access a USB disk drive connected to Airport Extreme from a Windows 7 PC?

...Called it a roaming network.  Wireless mode is create a wireless network. I have checked allow this network to be extended.  Probably need to uncheck that?
Yes, that option should be deselected as it only pertains to when both routers are interconnected by wireless. Since you have a roaming network, they of course, would be interconnected by Ethernet.
The other important settings for a roaming network are:
Each router must have a unique station name. For the AirPort, this would be called its Base Station Name. I believe the default station name for Linksys routers is: linksys
Each router must broadcast a wireless network with an identical Network Name. For the Linksys, Network Name is the same as its SSID.
Each router wireless network must use the same Wireless Security type and password. The Linksys WRT-54G is capable of up to WPA2 Personal. If you have it set to this level of security, the AirPort should be at the same setting.
Make sure that each router is not on the same Radio Channel for the 2.4 GHz radio. In the US, there are basically only three non-overlapping channels: 1, 6, or 11. Set each so that they don't use the same channel but use of those three choices.

  • HT4628 I am trying to switch from AirPort to AirPort Extreme

I am trying to switch from AirPort to AirPort Extreme. Followed all the directions, but cannot get APE
to work unless AP is still plugged in. Frustrated. Help.

Tapping the words don't work in iOS 7. Just swipe up or down anywhere on the screen until the mode that you want to use appears in yellow type on the right side. Yellow type indicates the selected mode.
Remember - swipe up or down to get to the mode that you want to use.

  • How far away can you connect to the internet from Airport Extreme (802.11n)

How far can i take my Laptop away from Airport Extreme (802.11n) and still have internet connection

    According to:
    http://www.apple.com/au/airportexpress/
They claim the Extreme has a 45m range:
"Suppose you want to connect to the Internet with your PowerBook in an area that lies beyond the 45 metre range of your AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station"
Will you be using all N devices? G?, B? or a combination?

  • Internet connection via Airport Extreme/router thats not working, why?

I have been having problems with the internet connection via Airport Extreme which I find it a bit unusual and its still driving me nuts! This is what happened:
I have lost my internet connection last Sunday evening upon my return from a weekend away from home. The last time I have used the internet connection on my macbook was the previous Friday morning. Prior to the apparent disconnection on Sunday, I have always used my internet connection wirelessly through Airport Extreme (that is connected via ethernet cable to the NETGEAR DG834v2 ADSL modem which had worked beautifully until the problem arose on my return). This wireless internet connection allowed me to surf the internet anywhere in my home.
However, upon the successful re-connection to the internet via the modem router, I have discovered several new problems. I have tried to set up the internet connection wirelessly again but instead the following happened:
    1. Router (Netgear) drops ADSL connection and cannot reconnect when connected to airport via Ethernet. (which is the case when using airport wireless).
    2. Router connects to ADSL fine when computer is connected to it via Ethernet. (However, router disconnects when magsafe power adapter is taken out for some inexplicable reason!)
    3. Router connects to ADSL fine when nothing is connected to the router (ie. No Ethernet connections)
    4. Router connects to ADSL fine when connected to airport via Ethernet and computer is connected to airport via Ethernet.
So from the above, I cannot connect to the internet properly whether wirelessly or not so I suspect it could be faulty router or could it be airport extreme? I have asked my ISP for an explanation and all they have said is that it cannot be the mis-configuration but could be to do with the power adaptors or the way plugs are set up and suggested I take out all the power plugs (and power surge protector) out to switch everything off, the macbook, router, printer and airport extreme. However, when I have re-plugged them all back in, the problems I have described above still persists!
Would appreciate any help if anyone here recognises why this is the case and what seems to be the cause of this. If so, what should I do? Though I have written back to my ISP again yesterday for more help so im waiting to hear from them...
    Thanks

  • Printing problems with HP 1012 connected via Airport Extreme - resolved?

I originally posted on this issue in a long-running discussion on HP printer issues.
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10109788#10109788
Problem: Upgraded iMac 10.4.11 to 10.6 Following upgrade everything seemed fine except that the HP 1012 connected via Airport Extreme was not responsive. The system knew the printer was there, had installed the proper driver for it.
Intermediate troubleshooting: I tried to use Airport Utility to check the AE. It timed-out when trying to retrieve the AE setup specifications. I tried to update the firmware (7.4.1 to 7.4.2); system timed-out after a very long several minute "search for new version of the firmware."
Apparent solution: (any of the following may have made the difference - sorry not to have been more systematic)
    a. I turned off AP on the iMac.
    b. I unplugged the AE base station for one minute+, then re-powered it.
    c. I opened my MBP with 10.5.7. Started up Airport Utility.
    d. I renamed the base station. Left all other settings alone.
    e. I installed the 7.4.2 firmware upgrade.
    f. I ran Preference Repairs on the iMac (though I had done this right after installation of 10.6)
    g. I turned on AP on the iMac.
Result: Almost immediate connection to AP, printer quickly began printing several of the test documents that must have been waiting in queue.
Too early to tell if I will have any further problems if if it permanently fixed.
Thanks to the several messages in both Printer and Network categories that suggested one or more of the above steps.

I hooked up my wife's Deskjet 5150 to my mac via USB. Since the 5150 does not have a driver from HP to work in SL. I decided to us the generic Gutenprint v5.2.3. For the heck-of-it, I picked, HP Deskjet 5550-Gutenprint v5.2.3. It prints. and the utility works, BTW, I am low on black ink.
I also tried the other printer drivers labeled "any printer name"-Gutenprint v5.2.3. and they all worked with the 5150.
So now that I know that the 5150's will work via USB with SL, I will now upgrade the other two laptops in my house to SL.
    How to:
    Turn printer on.
open System pref/ printer-fax/ add printer
    Select hp desktop 5100
(name: -- Change name if you want - I kept " hp deskjet 5100"
    Location: Your computer
Print Using: open dropdown box, select printer software. Type in: " Gutenprint" or "deskjet". I picked the HP Deskjet 5550-gutenprint v5.2.3. but I do not think it matters as long as it is a -gutenprint v5.2.3 driver.

  • How do I connect my Airport Extreme to the Internet, It will not connect

I just got roadrunner internet and switched from dsl. I've been using the modem that came with dsl, but now I'm trying to use the Airport Extreme. My Imac does have the airport card, and I am able to get it to work with the airtunes to work with my stereo speakers, but I can't get a wireless internet connection. I've tried going through the set-up and I still can't get the internet connection to work. Can someone help me set it up?

I'm a little cofused. Do you have an express or an extreme? Or both? In the case of either the solo exrpress or the extreme, they need something to access the internet with. It would need a source, most likely to be ethernet connected to the modem. Unless you have a modem that also acts as a wireless router or some such concoction. You would then have a wireless router to give your iMac a wireless signal.

  • What is the best way to manage itunes content using an external hard drive connected to airport extreme?

Just a little history on what I've already tried. I have my itunes folder on my external hard drive with an alias linking to my macbook pro. My hard drive is networked from airport extreme. Streaming content is not a problem. Syncing my iphone is the problem. I just get the pinwheel and a message stating sync unsuccessful because itunes was unable to connect. It takes a very long time to change any settings in itunes for mu phone.I have 8g of ram so that shouldn't be a problem. Any help would be appricated.

The best solution would be two different types of backups, one local (in your own home) and one elsewhere. So, option 3 is the "best" solution.
I, personally, use Crashplan to backup all of my computers because it's much more convenient than an external hard drive.
With an external hard drive, you can either use Time Machine to create the historical/incremental backups OR you can create a bootable clone periodically using SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner.
I don't know of any way to make the machines mirror images of one another - as far as I know, the best you could do is transfer data from one to the other at time of purchase and then use something like DropBox to keep files in sync.

  • What hdd to connect to airport extreme

So I decided to go with the Airport Extreme base, because I already have an external hdd. The power supply for the hdd is usb , but i cannot seem to connect from my laptop to transfer files wiresley. can someone help?

There are advantages and disadvantages to connecting the AirPort Extreme in normal router mode or in bridge mode in the type of set up that you have.
Technically, bridge mode is probably the more correct way to set up the AirPort Extreme, but this will likely allow you to "see" other users and their devices in the same complex....similar to what you would see if you were at a coffee place with free WiFi.
Although you may be able to "see" other users on the network...and they can see you as well....they cannot access any of your computers or devices unless they have the password.
If you configure the AirPort Extreme to act in normal router mode, you will be able to "shield" your private network. The downside is that this will likely create what is known as a Double NAT errror. This is usually not serious on a simple network...but the Double NAT error will create issues with online gaming consoles and other interactive type of devices.
When, you say that you cannot get the AirPort Extreme to work properly....can you provide some more details about what you have tried and the results so far?

  • TM not showing the drive connected to Airport Extreme....

    Hi
I've been backing up to a USB drive connected to Airport Extreme since I installed Leopard with no problem.. Since 10.5.6 it stopped working. I ended up erasing the drive, reformatting it, reseting the Airport Extreme, repair permissions, used Onyx and Applejack and still this is what I'm getting:
When I go select the drive from the TM prefs. it doesn’t show. If I connect it to the laptop first. accept the TM offer to use it as its HD and connect it back to the Airport. I can mount the drive but when trying to start a manual back up. TM gives me the msg. “The back up volume is not in Mac OS Extended (journaled) format which is required”. I formated the drive one more time, just in case and same thing. Last I did a full back up with another drive having it connected directly to the USB port and it worked fine.
I am running all this from my main Admin profile with file vault enable. I have another Admin profile without the file vault enable as an emergency because of a past experience and don’t really use it. and I have the guest acc. enabled.
    Does anyone have any ideas??
    Thank you.

backups to directly attached drives work differently (and are stored differently) from network backups. they are not interchangeable. also, while in the past TM backups to air disks worked, they are not officially supported by apple so it's possible that 10.5.6 update broke that functionality. You can try the following terminal command which helps to show unsupported volumes.
    defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1
see if the airdisk shows up as a possible TM disk after that.
