Trying to connect Mac w/ OSX to Internet through LAN

I have a Mac running OSX (10.1.5) and a PC running Windows XP side to side. Only the PC is connected to the Internet.
I want my Mac to share my PC's internet. I have a router (D-Link) and two ethernet cables. Both are connected to the router (through LAN). I'm not able to get on the internet on my Mac. Is there anything I need to configure on each machine? what exacty do I type in?
also, I am new to being a Mac owner...Used them plenty, but know nothing of networking and other mac settings...very knowledgable about networking PCs.
How can I ping or get a dos-type prompt on a mac?
Thanks for ANY help.

the router is connected to a switch on which the port
where the mac is connected flashes (no connection),
when the pc is connected to it the light is solid
(and internet works). The IP is private 192.168....
If I have this right this is your setup:
|Mac
Internet>router>switch|
|WinXP
we are not at all familiar with networking Macs, but
we have extensive knowledge of networking PCs. The
switch is (i think) a 48 port patch panel and then
connected to router then cable modem (on a seven foot
rack in a guest room closet, if that tells you
anything about our extensive networking).
Yep. Q1... (you've probably tested this, but let's get it out of the way) is there a good network connection to the Mac? I can see several possible points of failure, including the patch cable from the wall, the cable in the wall, the patch cable from the patch panel to the wall, the patch panel...
Q2, assuming that the cabling is good, how is your net set up? DHCP or hard-coded IPs? Are you using IPX (not so good), NetBIOS (very NOT, repeat NOT, good for Macs running 10.1.x), or TCP/IP (very good)?
Q3... OS X 10.1.x was, erm, acceptable, but mostly in comparison to 10.0.x which was not ready for prime time. 10.2.x is much faster, and plays better with others. Is there any way that you could move the Mac to 10.2.x?
Is that what you mean by more information? Could
there be something wrong with the built in ethernet
port on the mac?
That's a distinct possibility. If it's old enough to run 10.1.x, it's old enough that the port could have got fried.
We know for certain that the built
in audio does not work.
Not good. Q4... are you sure you don't have a motherboard problem?

This seems obvious to you....but we cannot read minds.
A bit more information......like whether you are trying to connect using a wired or wireless connection would be helpful.
A model number of the TV, if available, might allow us to download a setup or installation manual. If you have a link for this, that would be even better.

When I purchased my iphone and ipad last week they told me I would connect the ipad to the internet through the phone but can get niether the phone nor the ipad to see the internet?

Connecting the iPad to the internet via the iPhone is done by setting up a personal HotSpot, but you have to have that supported by your carrier and have to have established the account to do so.
On the  iPhone, Settings > General > Network > Set Up Personal Hotspot

  • Mode not supported when trying to connect mac to tv

I'm trying to connect my Mac to the TV as I do nearly every day using my HDMI cable via the apple HDMI adaptor (don't know exactly what that cable is called). But when I try it cuts in and out in fuzziness for a bit then eventually comes up with the error message on my tv "mode not supported". I can't see any visible faults in the cables at all. Do I need to replace one or both of the cables? Or is there something else wrong? If it's the cables, how do I figure which needs replacing without having to buy both if it's only one of them? Help!

  • Airport Express 2nd gen will connect to the internet through LAN but not over wifi?

Interesting issue, I can stream Apple TV connected to the LAN port, send Airplay music to my receiver from my iphone, but cannot access the internet over wifi. So it's not Comcast, it has to be the Airport Express, but not ALL of the Airport Express, just the part that sends the internet signal. Is that even possible? I've restarted reset (hard and soft), re-setup, and unplugged everything 100 times, but to no avail. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Ok, thank you.
I know you already tried a number of resets, but please give the following a try to verify that you can get basic Internet access via a wireless connection to the Express from any of your wireless network clients.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Is there anyway to connect my iPhone to the internet through my computer's WiFi?

Basically I live in an Army Barrack Block and I use an internet service in my room called Wifinity. I pay for this monthly and it allows me for up to two devices to connect to the internet. The two devices are my Macbook Pro (late 2010) and iPad (3).
If I connect my iPhone to the internet it cancels either my iPad or Mac out and I have to phone them up to change it back round.
What I was hoping to know is:
If I have my Macbook connected to the Wifi, is there anyway I can share that Wifi to my iPhone (either by Wifi, Bluetooth or USB). I have been searching a bit online and haven't had much luck. I have also been playing around with the sharing settings in System Preferences but again, no luck.
The internet service I use is only Wifi, I can't connect it via ethernet or anything else.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks.

    Harry J
I've never been able to do that, even after a lot of fiddling and searching.
Razmee's suggestion is to take a an Iphone and use cellular to create a hotspot to connect another device and that will provide it access to the net.
    Cheers

  • Can I connect Ipad 2 WiFi to Internet through 3G Android Bluetooth Phone?

Can I connect my IPad 2 Wifi to internet through 3G Android Phone's Bluetooth?

Not Bluetooth. You can connect if the phone has tethering/internet sharing. The phone has to put out an SSID for other devices to connect to. Like a wifi signal.

  • Linking error while trying to connect to 10 g oracle db through OCCI

    Hello experts,
Iam getting a linking error while trying to connect to 10 g through OCCI.I've tried both available Instant client versions,But no luck.now, I am using instant client 11.2.0.2 with visual studio 2005 and oracle 10 g on 32 bit XP. I get "*The procedure entry point OCILobSetContentType could not be located in the dynamic link library OCI.dll*" linking error
How can i fix this error
    Thanks in advance..
    Regards,
    Srihari

    Hello,
Please ensure that you are using correct PATH and ORACLE_HOME settings - for example if IC 11202 is installed in
    c:\oracle\11202\instantclient_112
    execute on commandline
    ORACLE_HOME=c:\oracle\11202\instantclient_112
    PATH=%ORACLE_HOME%;%ORACLE_HOME%\bin;%PATH%
before starting VS2005 from commandline - or generate a commandscript
Inside VS2005 please ensure that you are picking up the libraries from
    %ORACLE_HOM%\oci\lib\msvc\v8\*
    furtheron, copy the
    %ORACLE_HOM%\oci\lib\msvc\v8\*.dll
to %ORACLE_HOME% - otherwise by default the v9 ar picked up (copied during installation)
When this has been done, build the code and test - should work
    regards,
    Frank

  • Hi, I am trying to connect my MBP to my tv through HDMI and minidisplay. I can get sound when I am watching a dvd, but when I try to watch youtube or something on the internet there is no sound. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The MBP is mid-2012. The display is working fine when I connect it to my TV. I have a HDMI that can carry sound to my LG tv when it is coming from a DVD. I have changed my preferences in sound to output to be LGtv, but it still won't work when I want to have sound from the internet or from iTunes.
I attempted to change the settings in MIDI setup, but that also isn't making it work.
    Thankyou for any help.

I tried it.  This page: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewFeature?id=440027055&affId =1884404 opens iTunes, and allows me to watch past performances - it works fine.  There doesn't seem to be any way to watch live, unless it just hasn't started yet.  Unfortunately I have to go to work in a few minutes so I can't check again tonight.

  • Connect mac - win XP via internet

    Hello,
sorry if this has been answered, but I don't know how to find the information I want.
Is there any possibility how can I connect from my MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard to my parent's HDD in PC with Win XP via internet?
Can you please give me an advice or send a link or so...
    Thanks
P.S.: I'm just average user, so if there is some easy solution, I'd prefer the easiest one
    Message was edited by: jakudo

Not sure if this will satisfy your requirement - but LogMeIn.com will allow you to CONTROL your parent's PC without them being there (if it's configured as such). That would at least allow you to connect to their computer and ftp files to/from your computer (if you expose an ftp server to the internet), or to some other file sharing site that you could sync up with.

  • Trying to connection Mac Mini to HD Projector 100 ft away....

Is HDMI an option or will I need to go another route?  Setting up a new HD Projector in a church sanctuary and want to get the best picture available out of it.

100 feet is near enough 30.5 metres. This is longer than HDMI or DVI would normally go, and also VGA. What you are going to have to do is use a product that converts the video signal to send it over different cabling and allows you to go a longer distance. I am listing an example product below, you would need a converter at each end, the following is for a pair.
