Trying to connect Macbook to a DLink 604 router

Just received my new MacBook, I can connect to the internet via the DSL modem without any problems but when I try putting the 604 into the equation I get nothing. I am running a G5 Imac on the same router, and never had any issues during setup for that machine. When I connect the MacBook to the router I do not get the led's lighting up on the router ports. ( I swapped the cable with the IMAC just to eliminate a cable issue). So without the connectivity the network assistant cannot help as it cannot obtain an IP address from the DHCP. I ran the hardware disc to do the extended hardware tests and it came up okay, but I am not sure if it runs diags on the NIC port. Has anyone else ran into a similar problem with their new MacBook, if so I would sure like to hear about it.
Thanks

It's possible that your DHCP server ppol that is set in your router is too low, as in only 1 IP address. Try this, shut off all of your computer items that connect to your router. Then, shut down your router and restart it. Connect ONLY your macBook and see if you get an IP address. if you do then it's your DHCP server pool. Many ISPs do this intentionally, if in fact you got your router from your ISP.

  • Trying to connect Macbook Pro and IMac...suggestions?

Trying to connect Macbook Pro and IMac with Apple Remote desktop or a cable.  They do share a wifi router.
    Thanks much!

not sure if you found an answer to this.  I just got a mb pro and want it to connect to my imac (late 2009).  I set up sharing on hte imac, file sharing and dvd/cd sharing.  from the mbpro i simply went to finder>go>connect to server.  I entered the name as on my imac (xxx.local) and immediately connected.  This was a massive help to me as I had some software (aperture, office for mac) that were on drive and the new mbpro doesn't have a disk drive.  through sharing I could access the disc drive remotely via my mbpro and load the software that way.  worked beautifully on my wifi (which is apple airport extreme).
    Hope this helps.

New Galaxy 5s.  Trying to connect to a guest wireless that routes browser to a login screen.  The wireless will not connect (gives authentication error), so will not pull up browser window.  My previous Android did not have this problem (it would connect and immediately reroute to the login screeen).

Would you please try manually set the DNS address on client NIC to the IP of your server, then try run the connector again?

  • Beginner question: Can I create a hybrid home network between an ethernet-connected iMac and an airport connected Macbook Pro using a hybrid router?

I recently acquired an friend's used iMac, I don't know anything about networks and all I can find is how to create a Wi-Fi home network but nothing about hybrid Ethernet/Wi-Fi networks.
I have the iMac connected via Ethernet to the wireless router.
I connect via Airport with my MacBook Pro
I would appreciate if anyone has any pointers as to how I can start setting up a network between my ethernet-connected iMac and WiFi connected Macbook.
    Thanks!

ethernet and airport/WiFi are just transmission media for the same network. If you can get internet on both computers, they are networked. Using the same router = same network.
So now, what is it you want to do? Share files between them?

  • I have MacBook Pro 10.6.8-- am trying to connect to neighbor's dlink,NETGEAR24--no luck?

Do I need a software upgrade?

D-Link and Netgear are two separate companies.
In addition to his permission you need your neighbor's Wi-Fi password, your MBP must be within its wireless range, and if he has enabled MAC Address Access control, your Mac would need to be added to its client list. Your neighbor's ISP may not permit this arrangement either.

  • Tried to connect Macbook to a G5

I have a G5 and want to migrate some files to a new MacBook. I purchased a firewire...(BTW $36.00 at Best Buy "Not a Best Buy") Went to Migration Assistant and followed the directions.. Nothing Then after several tries I got a message "May not be able to connect to old mac by firewire". Huh???. Is the "T" key the key with the "T" on it or something else.. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong. If you do please let me know I would be very apprieciative. Thanks, Steve
IMac G5 Purchased November 2004   Mac OS X (10.3.4)   Now a MacBook too

A machine that is capable of target mode (post blue and white g3 and anything beyond that release date) should be able to do so with any of the released operating systems including: jaguar, panther, or tiger.
The problem with filesystems (IIRC) was that PPC machines needed to have 10.4.4 in order to read the intel mac HFS+ partition table (GPT), however intel macs need only read the Apple Partition Map (APM) from HFS+. Since the G5 machine would be booting into target mode it is basically skipping the operating system and in the PPC case presenting the drive via open firmware. Since the filesystem is readable by the intel mac, it shouldn't make any difference what OS is installed (provided the drive was formatted correctly). There's a kbase article on this, but I couldn't find it so this is mostly from "http://appleintelfaq.com/"
All bets are off if you have your drive formatted in some strange way.
Target mode problems can often be remedied by reversing the procedure (setting the host machine to be the target and copying files to it), cloning your drive to an external and forgoing the machine, or zapping the pram. If your firewire port isn't working you 'may' need to reset the SMU or PMU depending on your macintosh model.
    Good Luck,

  • Can't connect MacBook Pro to Clear 4G router

I have a mid 2010 MBP running 10.6.8 & recently purchased Clear 4G as my ISP. I bought the Express Hub which works great and connects with every device I have; PlayStation 3, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and both a Win7 & Linux netbooks. Only my MBP won't stay connected to the Clear router. Contacting their support simply blames the notebook, but they say a driver isn't necessary and they don't know of any issues with OS X and their service. Security on the router is set at WPA2 PSK with AES encryption. Never had an issue connecting to any access point before. Any thoughts?

Absolutely, my MBP is up to date with drivers, software, etc. like I mentioned, I never had an issue connecting elsewhere either, and I travel with my MBP.
By default, the Clear router is WPA2 PSK with TKIP encryption, however I know AES is more secure, but neither get me connected. I even whitelisted my MBP MAC address in case of any IP issues, but still nothing. Seems WEP is the only (other than completely open) authentication it'll handshake with through this router. I know, it's something, but WEP is like an unlocked door to your home.

  • Trying to connect three laptops to a WRT54G Router

We never had this issue until today but all of a sudden, the router isn't connecting with my two sons' laptops. Mine is okay. I think the problem has something to do with us all sharing the same address. Should we each create our own network or have a unique identity number to differentiate so it will let us all be on at the same time? I'm not sure where to go to fix this. I know all the numbers and passwords to put in but seem to be missing that one piece of the puzzle to make it all work.
    Thanks for your assistance.

Try to adjust the wireless settings on the router and try to reconnect the laptop again.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the Wireless tab... Wireless Network mode should be mixed...Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbors network...Set the Wireless channel to 11-2.462GHz... Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey.Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
Click on Advanced Wireless Settings...Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Trying to connect to zyxel router

hi i'm in switzerland for the weekend and trying to connect to a zyxel p-355 router. i tried with wep 64 and 128 bit, channels 1 and 6, but couldn't connect. i then turned wireless security off altogether for a test, but still no joy which suggests the fault is not security.
i'm now connected via windows in boot camp. i'd like to get it fixed for the mac as 1) id rather use os x while i'm here and 2) my swiss friends who i'm staying with have macs and want to log on as well without having to buy windows!!
    any ideas gratefully appreciated?

    Thanks,
    mac filtering is disabled.
the problem can't be the wireless security settings as i've disabled security completely and still couldn't connect with a macbook pro and a macbook.
Like i said i can connect with windows no problem regardless of security or channel.

  • Trying to connect my wireless g router

    Hi,
I am trying to connect my wireless g router (WRT54G) to my cisco router from my company. My cisco router was configured by my company so that I can use the office phone. I need wireless access in my house (I work from home), and so I am trying to connect the WRT54G to the cisco router.
I followed the instructions on the setup CD, and it got to the point where it checks the configuration, and then it crashes, and wants to send an error report to microsoft (which I don't understand, but is another question for another time!)
I am completely at a loss here, and don't know what to do. I barely understand this whole internet/router/W.A.P./network thing as it is, and am frusterated.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Shelley

Don't use the CD. You are running behind a router already and you don't want to set up two chained routers. Instead set up the WRT as access points like this. Be sure to pick a valid and free LAN IP address in your current LAN for the WRT.
To secure the wireless you also have to do the following:
    * Change the wireless network name (SSID) from "linksys" to something unique (Wireless tab).
    * Enable wireless security. Use WPA2 Personal or WPA Personal. Use AES+TKIP for WPA2 or TKIP for WPA. Enter a strong passphrase.
    * Change the default password of the router ("admin") on the Administration tab.

  • Connecting Samsung 5500 TV to WI42WR router

    I bought a Samsung UN48H5500AF television.
I am trying to connect wirelessly to my MI42WR verison router.
The TV sees my wireless network, however when I attempt to join the network I am unable.
The setup asks for the router PW, but the error message says the PIN is wrong.  This mixing of terms is confusing.
I can connect to, and manage, my router through my PC. So its not a PW issue.
    Any help would be appreciated!

PIn would imply it things you are trying to connect via WPS which the Verizon version of the Actiontec router does not currently support.  Note the passphrase(sometimes called password) is normally a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters.  Letters are case sensitive.
Pass keys are normally listed in Hexadecimal (i.e number 0-9,a-f) The a-f represent 10-15 in hexadecimal and are not case sensitive.

I am trying to connect my MacBook Pro to my TV with a mini display port to HDMI converter. Its not working. Any suggestions?

Depends on your model TV.   Read your TV user manual.  The newer models have "how to hookup" instructions for computer & games.
You can also do a forum search as well as a Google search.

im not sure what to do next - can anyone help?
    im running OSX 10.7.4

    Hi There,
I have had the exact same issue but with a projector.
The issue lies with Mountian Lion 10.8.2.
I tried many a combination with no luck to get HDMI working.
Took my mac into the apple store and came to the conclusion it was the software, so I asked them to install 10.8 onto it (this is destructive so a backup is a must)
Bought my macbook home and voila, now displaying through my projector.
There is a small graphics update after 10.8.1 which seems to be the cause.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

Hi all, I'm trying to connect my macbook pro to Sony Bravia tv using Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support , when connected to the HDMI on tv I get a picture of the mac screen saver ( the starburst ) no video/audio,any ideas? thanks, Derek

Dave I'm glad to say that it works perfectly but I'm embarrassed to say that my 12 year old nephew hooked it up in about 10 minutes.
If you have the Kanex Mini DisplayPort cable it will work, what confused me was changing the display settings in System Preferences,
and dragging the mac screen from the mac onto the tv. Sorry I cant be more helpful but you have the right cable now you need a 12 year old nephew.
    Good luck Derek
