Trying to connect two WRTP54G's back-to-back

I just moved into a home which has been pre-wired for telephone, video and data. I have two WRTP54G's, one of which has wireless problems and the other which works just fine. I am signed up with Vonage and the latter router is registered with them. I am running firmware 1.00.62 on the first one and 5.01.04 on the second.
I would like to be able to connect by AT&T SpeedStream DSL modem from the main control panel in the closet to the WRTP54G which then connects to 4 rooms. In one of the rooms, I would like to connect my second WRTP54G which can then be a wireless router as well as my Vonage phone adapter.
What should be the settings I should try putting in the two routers to make it happen?
Basically I want the first router to be a wired router which sends signals to the 4 jacks in the 4 rooms, and the second router to be a "true" wireless router which gives IP addresses to computers connecting to it wirelessly, as well as give me my VoIP phone line.
I tried disabling DHCP on the first one, but could not set up the second one correctly to make it work with the first one. I also thought of following some directions from the web and making DHCP disabled on the second one, but that I think will not work because wireless will have to give out new IP addresses, right?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I think you can do that but second router won't provide any phone connection. Try changing the local IP address of second router to 192.168.16.1 and connecting a LAN port from first router to internet port on second router.
Yes, but if the vonage router is not set up to provide IP addresses, how will the laptop get an IP address for wireless connection? Also, assuming it somehow can (I don't know networks too well), by setting the IP to 192.168.16.1, don't I run the risk of having one computer with 192.168.16.x address and perhaps my DirecTV receiver connected directly to the first router have an IP address of 192.168.1.x and therefore not be able to share any files between each other?

Hi, i have two mac minis which i am trying to connect to the internet via airport express to a modem. No problems with one of them, very reliable but i can't get the other to connect. It staes there is no ip address . This is when using the "configure ipv4 using dhcp" When i tried manually and copied the same address it appeared to work except it said that another computer was using that i.p address. (which is the one that always is working) Question is, cause i am a newbie, what ip address should i use? Thanks.....

How is your Express configured? In AirPort Utility select the Express and click "Manual Setup". In the Internet panel, Internet Connection tab, "Connection Sharing" should probably be set to "Share a public IP address". As you mention, each of your Macs should be set with "Configure IPv4" to "Using DHCP".
If all those settings look good, you might try resetting your connection settings on the problematic Mac using the steps listed in this message:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10695921&start=1
They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take a minute or so to try.

  • Trying to connect two WRT54GS one has gateway and the other as router... HELP!

Long story short i have 2 WRE54G v2 and still dont get the signal i want. My last ditch effort is picking up a WRT54GS v6 last friday with high gain dB antena to act as an extender. My current WRT54GS is v1 with high gain dB antena. Can i get these routers to talk to one another wirelessly?
    Help!!!
    Idleloud

Mort is right.  They can not connect together with the linksys firmware.  Some third party firmware does allow that but third party firmware will void any warranty and you will not get any support from linksys.  I recommend adding a access point to increase the range from your WRT54GS.

  • Connecting two SRP527W's

So I'm trying to connect two SRP527W's.  I have 2 different sites, 2 SRP527W's, 2 ADSL connections.  I deally I would like to connect the 2 sites using an ethernet cable from the back of each SRP.  The reason why I wanbt to do this is that we are located in an area with poor ADSL infrastructure and bandwidth is an issue.  I don't want to share the ADSL connection at each site I just want one site to be able to access the network of the other as they need to access the server.
    Below is my current setup:
    Site 1.
    SRP527W with ADSL connection
    IP: 192.168.15.1
    DHCP Server
    D-Link unmanaged 24 port switch
    15 Computers connected
    Server
    Site 2.
    SRP527W with ADSL connection
    IP: 192.168.1.1
    DHCP Server
    7 computers connected
    Cisco 10 port managed switch
Is it possible to configure port from the SRP @ Site 2 (not from the switch)  to connect with the server at site 2 without the DHCP interferring and trying to change IP addresses?
I'm quite new to networking so any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi Will,
By default, the SRP issues DHCP address from 192.168.15.100 upwards.  Choose anything from .2 to .99 to statically address your server.
Not sure about your requirement for connecting the two routers.  Are you suggesting that both devices are close enough (<100m) to connect them via Ethernet on the LAN side of the SRPs?  If so, sure you can do this a number of ways.  Here is just one:
Make sure that you are using different IP subnets on the two SRPs (ie change the default on at least one of them)
Create a new VLAN (5 for example) on both routers and assign this as the only VLAN for the ports you wish to connect together.
Statically assign an IP address from the same subnet to this VLAN on both routers: 192.168.5.1 on one and 192.168.5.2 on the other.
Create static routes on each SRP pointing to the remote LANs via the other SRP's 192.168.5.x address.
    So you might have:
    192.168.15.x <-> SRP A <-192.168.5.1 ..Ethernet cable.. 192.168.5.2 -> SRP B <-> 192.168.20.x
At SRP A create route to 192.168.20.0 255.255.255.0 via 192.168.5.2 and at SRP B create a static route to 192.168.15.0 255.255.255.0 via 192.168.5.1.
    Hope that makes sense.

  • Connect two external monitors to mini DP(using a mini DP to VGA adapter) and the VGA out at once

I am trying to  connect two external monitors to mini DP(using a mini DP to VGA adapter) and the VGA out at once. Windows recognize both monitors as well. But it dowsn't let me use all three monitors at once(see the below image). In the dropdown, it lists all three monitors. Problem is there are two active displays I can select.

    Mavec wrote:
I would like to add a third monitor.
The GPU(s) in your T400 (and most other laptop brands) will support two different displays concurrently.  If you want to support more than two different displays concurrently, you will need another GPU external to the T400.
Generally, if you want to use two external displays on a T400 you will nee dto use a docking station.
I have read messages on various fora on this topic and know that there are a number of ways of doing this, but as I have never had a need to do this myself I can't tell you how to go about it.

  • How can I connect two PS3 to the same Linksys WRT54G correctly

    Hi,
i'm trying to connect two PS3 to the same routeur without having conflicts. Everytime i try to update my game softwares it tells me error 80710723 or now 8002AD23. I gave the two PS3 different IP adresses, i opened all the ports that Playstation suggested me to open (http://playstation.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/241) and gave them different DNS adresses but still they cannot download any software content without bugging the console. I also use a PC, Tablet and Phone with my wireless connection.
    thank you
    -François

Well in this case the error code (80710723 ) is generated when the internet connection is slow. So you can try the following step:
    # Open up the browser and on the address bar type 192.168.1.1 that will open up the Router setup page.
    # Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1400 or less (usually found on your router's main/ basic setup page)
    # Make the Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
#Adjust the following advanced wireless settings:
~~ Lower the beacon interval from 100 to 75
~~ Lower the fragmentation threshold from 2346 to 2306
~~ Lower the RTS threshold from 2347 to 2304

    Hi all!
I have to connect two BW Systems to one R3 system. In our last tests we have had problems trying to connect two BW  servers simultaneously with R/3 source system because it allows only a logical system name for each R/3 client, and (We guess that we need to define tow diferent logical system name, one for each connection). This has been generating errors when we try to load data from R/3 to BW because, we guess, R/3 does not recognize the BW source system in the ALE connection for someone BW systems at transfer data. In this moment I have one connection active (BW1-R3). The BW2-R3 connection is already inactive. Does anybody know how perform this? we need solve the transfers problem as soon as possible.

  • Connecting two USRP N210 to one computer

    Hi,
I am trying to connect two USRP N210's to one pc. I want to simulate a real-time communication p2p link and I must use some blocks which are only available in MATLAB Simulink, i.e. I will have to configure one USRP as transmitter and the other as the receiver and in the middle I will put some Simulink blocks. My question is very basic. How do I get the operating system/ MATLAB, etc. recognize both of them, i.e. the two different IP addresses. I wonder I should use a network card with two slots or two normal network cards? or is there a simpler solution?
FYI: I am very new to USRP's.
    Thanks,
    Reza

    Dear Reza,
Two possibilities : (a) use the so-called MIMO cable or (b) use two network interface cards.
In both cases, USRPs are differentiated through their IP adresses.
I'm not using Matlab so I'm not sure whether (a) works in this environment. Solution (b) will work.
Also note that for real-time processing our experience tells that the
quality of the NIC+driver makes a difference.
    Best wishes

  • Connecting two networks.

I am trying to connect two similar networks. I am not sure if this is possible or not.
My network has cable internet access through a Airport Extreme wireless router to a hub that connects to all of my devices (iMac, Xbox 360, TiVo, Win XP computer). The other network also connects to the internet through a cable modem and has a linksys wireless router. My iMac connects to my network through ethernet and the second network wirelessly.
I can connect to either network separately. I would like to be able to transfer files and print to the other network while simultaneously logged on my network and accessing the internet through my modem.
Is this possible? If so what do I need to do?
    Thanks,
    Scott
    iMac 24" 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM and 17" G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

It is possible, but what would really be the point? For the possibility, you could simply have one network connected via ethernet cord, and the other network be strictly wireless. The only reason to even have two networks would be bandwidth issues, which you would want to have your non-computer (but internet reliant) on one network, and then have your computers connect through the other network. Transferring files between two networks at the same time wouldn't be the most efficiant method, simply having both computers connected via ethernet would be by far more effeciant.
Airport Extreme/Express is limited to 54 MBps realitivly. You would get much better speeds via ethernet. If your trying to get more data faster by transferring via ehternet and airport, then you may want to keep in mind that speeds are also limited to hard drive speeds.
    In short, its pretty over-kill.

I am trying to connect two external hard drives to my basestation via a 4 port USB hub; however, only one of them shows up in Finder and depending on what port I used either one might show up. I have tried my printer in all 4 ports and it works thru all 4. Is it only possible to have one HD hooked up to the base station?

Yes, you can hook up more than one drive. If this is an unpowered USB port, you might see if use of a powered USB port gets you better results.

  • Connect two pc's over a lan using labview

    Hi,
I am trying to connect two pc's over a LAN using ethernet. Both pc's are connected to the LAN and I can ping each one from the other but I cannot get commseither using the visa vi's in labview or  through MAX. In MAX I right clIck 'devices and interfaces' and select create new ->VISA TCP/IP Resource. A dialogue box appears and I select raw socket then click next. I put in the ip address. It looks for a port which I don't know I have tried a few numbers. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Steven

Why don't you just use the TCP functions? There's several shipping examples. I suppose you could write client/server programs with VISA functions but I don't know of any examples of these. You might as well start with something that already exists and modify it for your needs.
I'm not sure MAX will detect just a pc resource unless you start VISA Server on the remote pc.

  • Connecting Two 2.1GHz Power PC G5's

    Greetings,
I'm trying to connect two imac G5's so I can work between the two.  I purchased a crossover cable and have successfully set up file sharing via networks. I'm having trouble however figuring out how to connect the two monitors so I can use one mouse/keyboard and click and drag between the two screens (dual monitors).  Any suggestions on how to do this? Am I missing something in the sharing settings?  Do I need an additional cable of some sort?
    Thanks!
    Lloyd

    hello,
you guys were having the discussion i'm interested in!
i have just tried out the trial version of ScreenRecycler.
I am connecting a MBP (new version) with an old iMac (intel core duo 1.83GHz 10.4.11) to enable screen sharing and use the iMac as an extended screen for my MBP. I would like to use it for video editing and CAD so need fairly seamless graphics. I noticed while i was trying it that there are visible delays/pixelation if you take video windows onto the remote screen (on the iMac), and redraw lags whilst using CAD.
first i tried the setup just wirelessly, and changed screen colours to thousands (as recommended by ScreenRecycler). i also have an old ethernet cable that i have just connected between the two machines.
i am not noticing any visible difference with the ethernet cable really, but i am also unsure how to tell the software to use a connection via ethernet cable, rather than a wireless one.
can i just cable the two computers together? and if so, where do i confirm in their settings that they should connect via the ethernet cable?
i am using 'Jolly FastVNC' on the iMac.
i was also advised to 'disable compression and degradation' as well as the screen colours to thousands.
does anybody know where to do this?
    excuse my ignorance,
    thanks very much
