Trying to continue living with a basic phone-Trying

Well I got off a 2 year plan about 4 months. Ive been on Verizon for roughly 10 years. I enjoy the simplicity of a basic phone. All I need is a decent camera, a qwerty pad and I'm good. My problem is that all of the basic phones Verizon makes are pretty much crap, and there is not much variety. I understand that there is a full reason as to why they are shrinking the options (and keeping the prices higher than smartphones). They don't want people to NOT pay for a data plan. We are just consumers and I feel like I am almost becoming obsolete as a customer. My questions are; why can't I use a phone that is a "smartphone" as a regular phone? Why can't they make at least one decent phone that requires no data plan (don't come to me and say the phones they have are good, I've been using verizon many years and these all suck now) and why is there a limited list of phones I can use to be purchased used as a prepaid? I'm convinced I am the only 25 year old that actually makes money that doesn't own a **** smartphone. I don't want one, and I am not paying verizon any more money than what I pay. Crooks I tells ya! These phone companies are CROOKS

Most of my friends that have basic phones wen to trac phone and are quite happy and the service is good.  My husband and son have old basic phones on Verizon because they could care less about smart phones.  I need to get them new phones but will probably have to leave Verizon to do it.  Me I got tired of my basic phone on Verizon and wanted a smart phone so went to another carrier where I get unlimited everything every month and have been quite happy.  Never have to worry about data overages and I find I use the internet on my phone a lot while traveling.  Maybe you need to see what else is out there to suit your needs.  Mary

I am on a plan with a basic phone that is breaking. I was given a smartphone that belonged to a relative that is now deceased, (they used the phone since they have passed it is deactivated.) how can I switch my phone over and is there anyway to avoid a data package/plan?

What is your current plan?  In some cases it can be cheaper to move to a More Everything plan with an out of contract line. With More Everything, you will get a $15 per month reduction in line fee with a minimal data.

  • Trying to do minimovies with iPhone. I tried combination "FourTrack"

Trying to do minimovies with iPhone. I tried combination "FourTrack" & "iMovie" but the created soundtrack could not be imported to iMovie. Is there any iPhone multitracker wich is compatible with iMovie?

Put your iphone in dfu mode by doing this. Turn your iphone off. When its off, hold home and power button together for exactly 10 seconds, then release the power button and keep holding home button for another 10 seconds. Then open up itunes on your pc and plug your iphone to your pc. Itunes should recognize your iphone in recovery mode and it will tell you to restore it. Click restore, and your iphone will restore. Remember that, if you do this you will lose everything that was on your iphone. You can restore from backup later on. Hope I helped. If you have any questions or problems with this tutarial, you can contact me personaly on my email [email protected]   . Hope I helped. Cheers

  • Anyone else with a basic phone getting bad service?

I bought the Casio G'Zone Rock a long time ago because I was very happy with the Boulder (I even passed the Boulder on to my son's number and it STILL works great). I have had no reason to upgrade my phone or my plan for a number of years (in fact, the plan I have isn't even offered anymore). I'm starting to get the feeling that, because I'm not a cash cow for Verizon, they are intentionally reducing the quality of my service.
    For example:
I can't keep a solid connection in my own one story home, but anyone with a US Cellular or T-Mobile phone has no trouble at all.
I will get a voice mail and not get a notification about it until more than 8 hours later.
Sometimes when I try to make a call, the phone has the 3G status and full connection bars, but it will timeout and never actually connect to make the call.
All of this is pretty recent too, meaning it never used to be this way. Am I the only one experiencing this? These are the same reason why I left AT&T and switched to Verizon.

Basic phones and smartphones alike, we want all our customers to have great service with us! We're not picking on you at all. If the Boulder is still working great in the same areas you're having these recent troubles with your Rock, then we are definitely need to look into something going on with your phone's hardware. Electronics can wear down over time, so it's possible the phone that's been working may have begun to deteriorate. Here's a few things to try:
       - Update your phone's roaming list by dialing *228 send and selecting option 2
       - Go to Menu>Settings & Tools>Phone Info>SW / HW Version and ensure the Software Version shows C731M070
If you don't use the Boulder in the same places as the Rock is having trouble, then we may need to check out the area. Feel free to let us know your zip code so we can take a look at the area. Also, is the service trouble only happening when you're inside your home or when someone in particular is trying to call?
    Thank you

  • How can i view my home security with a basic phone

I have a basic lg phone thru verizon.  can i set this phone up so i can view my home security while i am away

You can purchase any smartphone to use on wifi if you buy one straight out with no service, but you'd need to go to a site that resells used phones or find a prepaid that requires no service. You could even use a tablet that is wifi-capable.  But that's just using WiFi.  Sounds like you want all over access on mobile data and wifi though. You cannot buy a Walmart phone and use that in lieu of your basic phone on Verizon.  You would have to upgrade to a smartphone and that eligibility would be based on your contract if you have one.

  • Will i need to purchase data plan if i buy unactivated smartphone while on contract with a basic phone?

II have a basic phone that is still in contract with a family plan of other basic phones that is not the share everything plan. If i buy my friends unactivated smartphone (DROID X 3G) will i need to purchase a data plan?

yes, all smartphones require a data plan; you don't have to switch to the Share Everything plan unless you want to (and then all lines on your account would have to switch) ... you can add a tiered data plan (i.e., $30 for 2 GB) for your new smartphone.

  • I have the iPhone 5 trying to restore app with 27 sessions phone crashes

I bought 27 hypnosis sessions through "sleep soundly" app when I had my iPhone 4 when I upgraded to the 5 and tried to get those sessions on this phone it crashes. It is like too many at one time are downloading at once and it crashes. Then I have to delete app reinstall and start over. I have managed to get up to 11 on the phone at one time but when I try to get the rest it crashes and back to zero. Do anyone have the issue and do you know how to prevent it?

No, you would need her password and even if you had it, she would be notified as soon as you logged into her account.

  • Desperate! Trying to connect E2 with LG VX8300 phone

I have a Tungsten E2.  Love it except I can't get it to find the Bluetooth connection to my phone.  Very frustrating.  My phone is an LG VX8300.  Looks like my phone recognized the Tungsten device, but the E2 does not have that phone under it's device list.  I think I ran the phonelink updater from the palm folder, but nothing changed.  The whole phone connection was a major reason I got the E2.  Please help, anyone?

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
I see from doing a bit of Google that your phone is probably a Verizon device?  If so, that is probably 95% of the problem.  Verizon limits the Bluetooth capabilities of its phones to basically connecting with a wireless headset or earpiece.  No file transfers, and so far as experienced users here and elsewhere can attest, no sharing the phone's wireless internet connection for online activities with your E2.
If connectivity with your E2 is important, your best (probably only) option is to switch carriers...AT&T for instance.  I can't speak to other carriers as I have no experience with them.
[Oh, and I hope you don't mind that I edited the Message Subject to make it more descriptive of your problem.]

  • Hi... I lost my iphone 4S. I tried to trace it with find my phone in ICLOUD but the phone is switched off. What else can i do to trace it back?

    Hi
I lost my IPhone 4S. I tried to trace it down with Icloud /find but the mobile has been switched off. What else can i do to locate it?
    Thanks

Almost completely accurate.  They can still wipe the device by restoring using iTunes, but then the device will be in the Setup Assistant and stop at the 'Activation Lock' screen.  Then not only is the previous user data removed completely, but it will not activate past that screen.

  • HT1766 trying to switch providers with my current phone

I curreneetly use Verison wireless, my sister gave my daughter an iphone 4S that is AT&T. Verizon says I can't use the AT&T phone on their network. Isn't an iphone an iphone? Is there a hardware or software fix?

    gsm and cdma
cdma is not that widely used outside of Usa but in Usa it seems to be 50 50

  • Hi my Iphone 4 will not connect to my virgin superhub (netgear). Tried resetting network settings with no joy. Tried resetting all setting again no joy as well as rebooting the hub. My Ipad connects to it fine so cant understand it. Any Ideas appreciated?

Hi, My Iphone 4 will not connect to my virgin superhub (netgear). Ive reset network settings with no joy, Reset all the phones settings also no joy. Ive rebooted the hub and none of it works. My ipad has connected to it not problem so doesnt make sense. Ive read that it could possibly be my phones wifi signal reciever may not be strong enough but on my handset it shows as full bars!!! Any ideas would be really appreciated.
    Thanks

I had this same problem with my new MBP 15", but only with the USB port on the left side. The USB port on the right side worked fine. Perhaps the ports on the left don't have enough signal energy for the iPhone.
Anyway, try using a different USB port, and if that doesn't work, perhaps you could try a powered USB hub.

  • Remove data plan from family plan with basic phones?

Is there a way to remove a data plan from a family plan with just basic phones on it? We used to have a $20/month basic plan until we had to get a data plan for our son's iPhone. He no longer has the iPhone with Verizon and has removed his line from the plan because he has an Android with Sprint. We also were required to use the data plan because we at one point had one of those "Hotspot" devices as a temporary solution for at-home Internet until our DSL line could be fixed. As of now we no longer have the hotspot device or the iPhone, but we still have a data plan that is patently useless because all we have are basic phones. On the My Verizon Wireless website, it says that "your text and data are now bundled with your plan" or something to that effect. I don't want to be paying extra for a useless data plan that we don't need or want because we are not in the market for fancy smart phones or tablets any time soon.
Is there any way to unbundle or detach the data plan so that we no longer have one and just have the unlimited text and calling plan without data? Our daughter is fine with her EnV Touch from 2005 and us old folks are perfectly content with the basic flip phones. Is the EnV a data phone too, in which case we should get rid of the EnV Touch in favor of an even more "basic" basic phone? She's not much of a technology buff like her brother is and has even suggested getting rid of the "fancier" phone that she has for a basic flip phone. Are we stuck with the data plan unless we break everyone off from the family plan (it's just me, my husband, my daughter, and my sister for right now) and move everyone to pay-as-you-go or no-contract? Wouldn't that end up costing more in the long run? How can we get rid of this annoying and expensive data plan that nobody on our network even uses and is causing a headache of expense?

As I understand the plans now (and this could be wrong, they change so often I get confused!!) to have the "pay as you go" data, on the More Everything, you have 700 shared minutes.  To bump up to unlimited minutes, there is an attached data plan of 500 MB, and the total cost for 4 basic phones, unlimited minutes and text, 500 MB data, is $100/mo  ($20 for each basic phone line access, and $20 for the data).  The 700 shared minutes and pay as you go data is $85.
You can change your plan at any time.

  • Can only upgrade basic phone to basic phone?

I have three lines on a share everything plan.  Two smart phones and one basic phone.   The only line eligible for upgrade is the basic phone line.  So, I went to a local VZW store today not only to pay my bill but to see about upgrading the line with the basic phone.  The rep at the store told me that I could only upgrade a basic phone for a basic phone.  He said that only smart phones can be upgraded to smart phones.  This is just ridiculous.  I chose not to upgrade my phone.  In fact, I now plan to switch to AT&T.

You were told wrong.  The only difference will be a $40 line fee instead of the $30 line fee, and you may consider increasing the data pool if you are adding another smartphone to the mix.  But there is no reason at all why you would HAVE to put a basic phone on that line.  The rep was wrong.
