Trying to convert itunes purchased to mp3

So I go on itunes buy the song and now I am stuck. I tried burn it as an audio file however itunes keeps giving me the message that the one 5 Mb file that I want to burn is to big for the 700 Mb disc that I want it on. Now I'm no rocket scientist, but I'm pretty sure there is a problem with that math. Has anyone run into this little difficulty?
Steve

Hi Sea Beast,
Thanks for replying to me. I tried converting to aiff with no luck. itunes keeps telling me that its protected and that I can't change the format. any other ideas? Is there a way to download from itunes in any formats that windows media player reads? I got an itunes gift card from work for $30 and it would really suck if I couldn't use it.

Help please, how do i convert itunes files to mp3 format. i purchased a hp notebook and it has itunes and windows xp home. i have always used windows media player and am new to itunes. do i have to go back to media player or can itunes do the conversion?

The only conversion I've done is wma to mp3. To do this just simply import them they way you would any other song file. It will tell you that there are song files your trying to import that iTunes isn't compatable with and ask if you want to convert them to mp3 format. Just click yes and iTunes will make an mp3 of the respective songs. The wma's will still be there so if you want to get rid of them you'll have to delete them manually. The only downside is the conversion makes the file larger so it'll take up more space on your hard drive, but you'll be able to listen to it on your iPod.
As for iTunes purchased music StarDeb is right. Go out and buy the album then rip it onto your hard drive. At least then if your drive crashes you'll always have a backup.

Only by burning the files to an audio CD and then ripping that back into iTunes.

  • Why can't i convert itunes into an mp3 format?

I looked on Apple's website for information on how to convert itunes into a mp3 format on your windows pc. I followed each step. I clicked on Edit and Preferences and set it to Mp3 converter. I then selected the songs I wanted to convert into. Then I clicked Advanced. When I clicked Advanced, it showed "Create Mp3 Version" but it was grayed out. And i was unable to click it. I do not know if I did something wrong or..? Please help me out with this situation because I really want to convert it to an Mp3 format to post it on a website. Thanks.

It doesn't work if you simply open it in a browser tab. When you download it and open in an Adobe window you will be able to click on it and type your information in the spaces provided.

  • Converting iTunes Purchased Music to MP3

I have been reading the posts about not being able to changed the iTunes purchased music to MP3 format. I understand that the only way to do it is to burn the purchased music to a disc and then once it is burned, import it back into iTunes. I can't get it back into iTunes without the protection. Do you go to iTunes then to import? Help!!

I FINALLY figured it out!!!! Sometimes I am sooo
    slow! Thanks for your help!
Its not your fault. The French are considering making Apple
behave responsibly and allow use of iTunes music on any
    audio player.
The requirement to burn to CD and re-import just so I can
use a non-Apple music player....well, it looked good to legal
and why should Apple care about anything else.
It's not really fair to expect a company with Apple's reputation for
innovated ways of serving generally accepted needs to keep it up
    forever. Or is it?

  • Converting iTunes (m4a) to mp3 or wav

I have a fairly extensive iTunes library which I sync with my iPod Nano 2. My daughter has just been given an mp3 player for her birthday and I'm trying to find a simple way of exporting & converting tracks for her to either mp3 or WAV format without losing my m4a. Any ideas short of burning original to CD then re-importing under her account (where import of CD's is set to mp3)?
I have managed to open an iTunes track as m4a within Quicktime and save as a wav file, but the file size went from 2.6 MB to 11.7 MB - not very practical.
    Cheers, Andy

If the file is an .m4p then it is DRM protected and you can only burn is as an audio CD - you can figure out the rest.
If the file is a .m4a - no DRM - then you should be able to convert it to an mp3 within iTunes. Change your iTunes import options prefs.

  • Backing Up iTunes Purchases to MP3

Does anyone know when iTunes first prevented backing up songs purchased from the iTunes Store on to an mp3 CD? I recollect doing this in the past, but now find that it can't be done with either version 7.62 or version 8.01. If possible, can you pinpoint the exact upgrade which did away with this feature?
    Thanks
    John

To burn an MP3 CD the files already have to be in MP3 format, iTunes Stores purchases are AAC so they can't be burned to an MP3 CD without being converted first. Standard copy protected iTunes purchases can't be converted so you couldn't put them on an MP3 CD. Copy protected songs can only be backed up to a Data CD or burned to Audio cd.

  • How do I convert Itunes purchases to my ZEN MicroPhoto??

Okay, I had an Ipod mini and I went through three of them in the warranty time. I was sorely dissappointed with it, but I got a Creative Labs ZEN microphoto for Christmas and I love it. The only problem is that I have all this music that I downloaded from Itunes and I would love to be able to listen to it on my ZEN. I would still like to keep downloading from Itunes because it's the easiest and most legal downloading site that I have found. I know there are converters online, but I can't ever tell if it's legal or it will work. Does Apple have anything (hopefully free) that converts Itunes for my new ZEN???

Are you saying that iTunes downloads are only compatible with iPod's? That in order to play an iTunes download on anything but an iPod involves either illegal conversion or first burning it to a CD? I, too, just received a Zen Vision M and nowhere in the download, signup or anything else process did I see any mention of the fact that iTunes is not compatible with other software/hardward. Yes, the CD conversion trick works but for the aggrevation and lost time it's cheaper to drive to the store and buy the real thing.

how to convert itunes mp4 to mp3

So I'm being exact. You cannot "convert" a video file (with audio), to audio only.
You can extract the audio, or record the audio into an audio programme etc. as a way of obtaining the audio only. But convert... no.
I answered the question. I also asked the OP to give further information, so that we could possibly provide a suitable solution. After all, as lllaass has suggested, perhaps the OP wants to make a ringtone.

  • Trying to convert wav file to mp3 using itunes?

Is there not an easier way to convert a wav file to an mp3.  I import my file or folder but it does not convert.  I have had to manually ask it to create an aac or aca out of each import.  shouldn't it convert audimatically when I import file or folder.  It did on the last version before this new update.  Please help.

If Garageband doesn't work, try Audacity.

  • Converting iTunes music to MP3 and/or WMA format

Have a bunch of music (99% of which was originally loaded from my CD library) in iTunes on my Laptop.  I periodically sync that with my iPod Touch 3rd Gen.  Question:  Can a portion of this music be converted from iTunes to MP3 or WMA format?  My car can play music from an SDHC Card but the format has to be one or the other only.  How do I achieve this?  Your time and specific suggestions/solutions are very much appreciated.

    Hey Ed2345;
Followed the instructions to convert songs to MP3.  Quite cumbersome.  You would think Apple would have detailed instructions on how to keep the different formated songs separated, filed or whatever would be best to manage them.  Not sure if I need to create a separate playlist for them or library and how?  I tried to export a playlist of 16 converted songs to an SDHC card.  Thought I did but when I put it into the car stereo, nothing happens!  Wow, I may as well give up.  Would you be so kind as to possibly help?  Your time and efforts appreciated.  Joe
    Gruntvet,
After the conversions have completed, put your Music library in Songs view, and sort by "Date Added."  All of your newly created MP3s will be together at the top.
From there, you can just drag them to the SD card.

  • Converting Itunes Purchased Music HELP PLEASE??

So i bought a new music device. archos if it matters but i cant put any of my purchased music onto it because it is all Protected DRM or something of that nature. anyone know how to convert it to mp3 format? many programs only convert a few minutes and i dont wanna spend 50 bucks on a program for a one time thing. i find it frustrating that my over 300 purchased songs are now useless to me. You have two options: (1) You can use iTunes to burn the tracks onto *audio CD,* which can be used just like any other *audio CD.* (2) You can upgrade the songs to non-DRM "iTunes Plus" versions for 30 cents apiece.

  • Converting iTunes music to mp3

I know that there are a lot of converters out there and many are free. I am new to the Mac world and I am wondering what programs are best, easy to use, or can be used with other Mac software? If you have any please let me know. I'd prefer free but will purchase if I have to so I can avoid virus, etc.
    Thanks

You can do it perfectly well in iTunes.
    1. Go to iTunes Preferences>General and click the 'Import settings' button.
    2. Choose 'MP3 Encoder' in the 'Import Settings' menu and use the 'Settings' menu to choose your bitrate as required.
    3. Go to your Library and select the files you want to convert.
    4. From the 'Advanced' menus choose 'Create MP3 version'
Duplicate copies of the files will be created. You can drag these to the Desktop or a folder if you want to export them, and delete either these or the AAC versions as required in iTunes (note that you have to specifiy to remove them from the Library or they will remain on the hard disk though not visible in the Library display).
Note that this Preference setting also affects the format of files ripped from a CD.

  • Converting itunes songs into mp3s?

    hi
just wondering whether there is a way? I have just got a car with an MP3 CD player and wanted to use itunes to burn an mp3 CD. However, i can't as everything is either encoded as AAC when i burnt all my CDs or i can't as i have downloaded them from the itunes site.
Is there a way of converting them to mp3, that doesn't include burining a cd and reripping them as an mp3?

    Liam,
Is there a way of converting them to mp3, that doesn't include burining a cd and reripping them as an mp3?
Song files purchased from iTMS are copy-protected to deter music piracy so that's your only option.
For songs you've ripped into iTunes yourself, you can have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93123
Note the warning that converting from one lossy format to another will result in the loss of some audio fidelity. So try that method out with a few songs before deciding whether you want to proceed or re-import your CD's with the new Import settings.
