Trying to coppy a file into Windows server 2012 R2.

I got to servers running hyper v on my windows computer.  I want to tryt to have some practice with WSIM.  When trying to paste a iso or the install file there is an error that comes up and has no meaning to it.  I beleive it states just
an unexpted error has occured.  Anyone else had this issue and now if there is a way around this?

Hi,
From which computer did you copy the iso files? Which command did you use to copy the files? You could copy the Windows product DVD source files to a network share.

    User Action
Assign "Log on as a service" to the service account on this computer. You can use Local Security Settings (Secpol.msc) to do this. If this computer is a node in a cluster, check that this user
right is assigned to the Cluster service account on all nodes in the cluster.
If you have already assigned this user right to the service account, and the user right appears to be removed, check with your domain administrator to find out if a Group Policy object associated
with this node might be removing the right.
    I found following article:
"MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID service was unable to log on as NT SERVICE\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID" error when you install WID in Windows Server 2012
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2832204/en-us
To work around the issue, use one of the following methods:
Assign the Log on as a service user right to NT SERVICE\ALL SERVICES in the GPO that defines the user right.
Exclude the computer from the GPO that defines the user right.
We moved the SCCM server to OU where no policies were getting applied and then applied the new GPO to that OU. Restarted the server and we were able to install WSUS role.

  • In Place Upgrade WSUS windows 2008 R2 into windows server 2012

    Hi Team,
i had question. I have windows server 2008 R2 and installed WSUS role at that server.
Can I do inplace upgrade into windows server 2012 std edition?
is there any impact into wsus services?
    thanks

If it is not a DC, upgrade should be easy. And there shouldn’t be any problems.
The question was about upgrading a WSUS server, and regardless of whether it's a DC or not, it most emphatically will not be problem free. In fact, it's flat out not possible! On WS2012 the upgrade will be blocked if WSUS v3 is present,
and on WS2012R2 it will corrupt the WSUS installation beyond repair requiring a reinstallation of the operating system.
    Please review the
WSUS v6 documentation regarding upgrade requirements.
    Warning
Upgrade from any version of Windows Server that supports WSUS 3.2 to Windows Server® 2012 R2 requires that you first uninstall WSUS 3.2.
In Windows Server 2012, upgrading from any version of Windows Server with WSUS 3.2 installed is blocked during the installation process if WSUS 3.2 is detected, and you are prompted to first uninstall Windows Server Update Services prior to upgrading Windows
    Server 2012.
However, because of changes in Windows Server 2012 R2, when upgrading from any version of Windows Server and WSUS 3.2 to Windows Server 2012 R2, the installation is not blocked. Failure to uninstall WSUS 3.2 prior to performing a Windows Server 2012 R2 upgrade
will cause the post installation tasks for WSUS in Windows Server 2012 R2 to fail. In this case, the only known corrective measure is to format the hard drive and reinstall Windows Server 2012 R2.

  • Is there an application to monitor users who log into Windows Server 2012 R2?

I'm looking at Family Safety Feature in Windows 8 and like what they can do.  I have a request to monitor, track users who log into Windows Server 2012 R2 to see how many users login, how long each login is for each user so a monthly report can be generated.
    1.  I just wonder if Windows Essential 2012 can be used for this purpose or not.  If it can, is Windows Essential 2012 a feature can be added or installed on Windows Server 2012 R2?
    2.  If Window Essential 2012 cannot be used for this purpose, is there any feature in Windows Server 2012 R2 that can be used for this purpose?
    3.  Is there any other suggestions?
    Thank you for your help.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Hien Phan

    Hi Hien,
    Anything updates?
It seems that there is no feature can do that. I agree with Tim that you can check the event logs. In general, the event 4624 would be created when a user was logged on, and the event 4634 would be created when a user account was logged
    off.

  • Error -51 when trying to copy file to windows server 2012

When I try to copy a file from OSX to windows server 2012 share, it acts like its going to start and i get a pinwheel and finder is acting slow and finally error -51. although it does seem to copy over the folder with correct name but no files inside. I had this issue on mavericks as well and now on yosemite beta. Please help!
    Jarrod

If the drive is formatted HFS then you are limited to 32 characters on a file name. If it is formatted HFS + then you can have file names as long as 255 characters. I am not familiar withi the format you say the drive is formatted in so I can't speak to it.
If you are receiving -50 errors that can indicate a file name that is too long OR an illegal character in the filename regardless of its length.
If you are actually using 10.3.8 as your profile states then that may be part of the problem. Many of these problems existed in 10.3.X but were fixed in 10.4
I remember that 10.3.8 had issues copying to external drives when there were more than a certain number of characters in a filename. I don't remember the number but for some reason 10 or 12 is what comes to mind. It caused me many problems when I would try and copy files to a Zip disk that I used to have. Since I updated to 10.4 those issues have never occured again.
Since you know what folder the problematic files are in why not just open the folder and try to copy files one at a time. When you get to the one(s) that is a problem, change the file name to something shorter.
A better solution would be to update to 10.4 but with 10.5 coming out sometime in the Spring of 2007 this may not be the time.

  • Importing English Wikipedia dump (large .xml file) into SQL server 2012

    Hi there,
I've downloaded the latest English Wikipedia dump (enwiki-latest-pages-articles.xml),
and I'm trying to import it to SQL server 2012 by using XML Bulk Load. This is the VBScript
    code I've used:
    Dim objBL
    Set objBL = CreateObject("SQLXMLBulkLoad.SQLXMLBulkload.4.0")
    objBL.ConnectionString = "provider=SQLOLEDB;data source=localhost;database=tempdb;integrated security=SSPI"
    objBL.ErrorLogFile = "error.log"
    objBL.CheckConstraints=true
    objBL.XMLFragment = True
    objBL.SchemaGen = True
    objBL.SGDropTables = True
    objBL.Execute "export-0.8.xml", "enwiki-latest-pages-articles.xml"
    Set objBL = Nothing
This VBScript should generate the tables and load the Wikipedia XML file into them. The VBScript code also uses the wikimedia
XSD schema. However, I'm getting this error:

  • Restore VHDX file on Windows server 2012

I took back of my windows 2012 physical server and the file it created is in VHDX format. I have the backup file copied to another location. Now i completely wiped off the array on this server, re-created the arrays in the same form like before. Now how
do i get my bare metal server restored to previous state using VHDX file? This is very confusing , there is no proper documentation on how to back and restore physical servers. Any help is appreciated.

    Hi,
Do you copy the whole WindowsImageBackup folder to another location? You can’t do a complete restore from the VHDX file, you must keep the “XML”, “Backup<date> <time>”,”Catalog”, ”SPPMetadataCache” and “MediaId” files together to do a complete restore.

  • Logging into Windows Server 2012 from Remote Desktop requires "Connect with Smart Card"; how do I disable this?

I am using pretty much the default setup. I cannot figure out how to disable this. I do not want to use smart cards.
    Any ideas?

Does this mean you're trying to RDP from an XP box, therfore have the Remote Desktop feature on the server set to "less secure"? Sounds like thats what disables network authentication, prompting the Smart Card request.
If you simply click to login as a different user, you can login without a smart card, to include the same user as was being prompted for the card.
I expect if you choose the Remote Desktop feature requires network authentication on the server, the smart card requirement goes away, but you'll need to login from Win7 or newer clients. Not sure where Vista falls, probably okay too.

  • CHM files and Windows Server 2008

    RH 7, HTML
Support person has a customer trying to view .chm files in Windows Server 2008. They went ahead and tried the "normal" registry fix to view chm files over a network, but that didn't not fix the issue.
My understanding is that chm files can't be viewed in Windows Server at all, but thought I'd verify - is there any way to view chm files in Windows Server 2008?
    Thanks,
    -Jeff

    Jeff,
I don't think that anything has changed in Windows 2008, and .chm files are certainly viewable in this version of Windows. However, it may be that the customer needs to tinker with the security settings in Internet Explorer to make remote .chm files viewable. See this article for details:
    http://weblog.helpware.net/?p=50
To ensure that the correct registry changes are being made, the customer could try making them with the free HHReg utility. It's available from here:

  • Cannot install Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard on a Supermicro X9SRA

I have bought the Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard OEI and it will not install on the brand new Supermicro X9SRA motherboard. I have tried to install the previous version (Windows Server 2012 Standard) and it installs fine with no problems.
I need to install R2 in order to use the Essentials role. I have also tried to install the trial version of 2012 R2. which I downloaded from the microsoft website and got the same result. The installation goes into a loop. The circle bellow the Windows logo
goes on forever and nothing happens. I can not even get to choose the language. The loop happens as the disk starts.
    Can anyone please help?

Does SuperMicro support the installation of Windows Server onto that MB?  I do not find any reference to X9SRA at
www.windowsservercatalog.com, which is where hardware vendor post the systems on which they will support the various versions of the Windows Server operating system.  I see lots of SuperMicro solutions,
but none of them appear to list the X9SRA MB.  You need to contact SuperMicro to determine if they support it.

  • Anyone using Adobe Premiere Pro on Windows Server 2012?

No, and not through RDP/Terminal Services. I mean directly on a big honking server with Windows Server 2012 R2 OS. I have a box here and I'm trying to figure out if I could install Windows Server 2012 and use Premiere Pro at the same time or am I compelled to use Windows 8.1
    Your help is greatly appreciated!

    Hi Skadaba,
I have also been trying to install PP CC on Windows Server 2012 R2. I chose this because I am attempting to connect to a SAN with SMB over RDMA over Infiniband, and only 2012 supports the protocols I require to do this. Regardless, the problems I am having with Server 2012 R2 is that Server 2012 no longer supports direct installation of Windows Media Player, which has core files required for use by Premiere. Instead, Microsoft will try to have you install IIS Media Services which doesn't help in this situation.
I did find a solution to this that appears to be working. If you go to Server Manager and install the Desktop Experience Feature this should install the WMP core required in Premiere (Manage -> Add roles and features  -> Add Feature -> User Interfacce and Infrastructure -> Desktop Experience).
So as John Smith said, it isn't officially supported by Adobe, but it does seem to work once you go through those first first annoying steps.

  • Windows Media Player on Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Edition

I have a server with Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter edition installed. This server is being used as a terminal server and I needed to have Windows Media Player installed in order to use a certain feature of a program running on the terminal server. After
researching online I found that all I should need to do is install the Desktop Experience feature and Windows Media Player was included in that. After installing the Desktop Experience feature and restarting the server, I was not able to find Windows
Media Player anywhere. I tried the same process on another server running Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter with the same results.
I was curious as to if this was a Datacenter thing where it was specifically not included with Datacenter edition. I was not able to find any documentation stating that WMP was not included in Datacenter, and everything that I found stated that the feature
sets for Standard and Datacenter were the same, it was just the licensing for them was different.
Curious to see if it would get installed with Desktop Experience on Standard, I spun up a Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard VM and installed Desktop Experience and sure enough WMP was installed as well. I then upgraded the Standard VM to Datacenter with a
Datacenter product key and after a restart WMP was still present.
I have also tried this exact same process with Windows Server 2012 (non R2) Datacenter edition and WMP was installed as expected, so it appears that this is only a problem with R2.
My question is, I this "works as designed" and I was just not able to find the documentation to support it or is this a bug?
Update: After doing some more playing around I noticed that if I did a clean install of Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter and then installed the Desktop Experience feature and WMP does get installed. Then I remembered that on the servers that I was trying to
install WMP on and it wasn't working were upgraded from 2012 to 2012 R2. So I created a brand new VM and installed Server 2012 Datacenter (non R2), then upgraded to Server 2012 R2 Datacenter and installed Desktop Experience and sure enough, WMP did not
install. So now I really think it is a bug and it is related to the 2012 to 2012 R2 upgrade process.

    Hi Caleb CSG,
    Thanks for your feedback.
I'll feedback a report to Microsoft, and I also recommend you can post this bug in Microsoft connect.

  • Post upgrade from Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 to Windows Server 2012 R2

Hi, I'm not sure if I've done something wrong or if i lack some steps.
We have an existing server having Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 as OS, DC, and DNS. I had to upgrade it based on global standards so I upgraded it into Windows Server 2012 R2.
What I did was an online upgrade, insert the DVD installation disc and it asked for a adprep for forest and domain.
I did both forest and domain adprep and installation continued. After reboot, it showed up errors on my local server. Please see image below:
and when i clicked each roles under Manageability, it shows me
Is there something I need to do to fix these red marks?

These are the logs i've seen inside Custom Views>Server Roles>AD DS, DNS Server, and Administrative Events respectively.

Until MS has created an RSAT for Win 7 that works with Server 2012 (R2), this is still impossible.  (Win 2008 R2 runs on the same core as Win 7).
However, since your server now has PSv4, you can try
Powershell Remoting and see if it will work with your 2012 R2 Server.
