Trying to copy and paste from word

Hi. I've copied fifteen pages from a Word document, and I'd like to paste the whole thing into an InDesign Document with the text automatically flowing all the way to the end - just looking for simple full page rectangular text areas - nothing fancy. I'd watched a tutorial that said you could automatically have the text flow into the text areas while generating as many new pages as were necessary so all of the text could be displayed.
I've tried a number of ways of accomplishing this without success. The closest I've come is to get all of the pages to flow in but only on one side of the two page spread I set up in my Master A template.
Could someone explain the correct way to do this?

Based on your description, you have text frames on your master pages. Have you done this because of other elements of the design on the page? If not, you can do without them (text frames on the master). InDesign will automatically create text frames as needed to hold the text.
If your design requires the text frames on the master, then you need to ensure that your text frames are threaded from the left to the right side of the master in order to get the text to flow across the spread. Otherwise, it treates each side of the master spread as an independent thread.
When you have your loaded cursor, ready to paste, hold the SHIFT key to get the text to autoflow.

Cannot copy and paste from Word into Mail

I cannot copy and paste from Word into Mail. Neither from using the keyboard shortcuts, or using the Menu function. I can copy and paste from other applications into Mail- but for some reason, text copied from a Word document (both in .txt and .doc formats) will not paste into an open email. Anyone else have this issue? It's a new issue. I used to be able to do this easily.

If this were a project that I was involved in, I would recapture the media at the correct frame rate and rebuild the sequences correctly.
Moving from production, to post production, to delivery is a series of steps, and the success of any particular step is based on having all the preceding steps done correctly.
Shortcuts and workarounds tend to create awkward and difficult problems, that often only surface late in the process.

How do I copy and paste from Word into Adobe Photoshop Elements 13

using Windows 7 Professional SP1, Microsoft Office 365 (Office 2013).
I can copy the text within a word document, without a problem.
However, the paste options are greyed out and "Ctrl"+"V" does not work.
Am I missing something, as I can't work out how to copy the text from word, to use as a basis for my photo shop document.

There are a range of different kinds of forms. For example, this site uses very simple controls that don't automatically convert Word's formatting to an online format. The site where you are trying to paste your resume probably works differently.
What methods have you tried using to paste? Typically one of these will work:
* Ctrl+v
* right-click > Paste
* Edit > Paste (from the menu)
Some sites offer their own buttons to paste, but for security/privacy reasons, Firefox usually disables those.

Copy and Paste from Word to ID – as text please?

Recently upgraded to CS4 and Office 2008. Now when I copy and paste text from Word to ID it only comes in as an image. If I'm copying a single paragraph from a lengthy Word doc, I really don't want to have to paste it into a new Word doc, save that, and then Place... into ID.
Is there really no way to simply copy and paste some TEXT from Word to ID?? Who asked for text to be pasted as images?

Anyway, as a long-time Mac user, I can confirm the OP's dilemma.
I just upgraded from a pre-Intel Power Mac G5, OS X 10.5.8, CS2 Premium, Word 2004 for Mac to a late-2011 MacBook Pro, Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3, CS5.5, Word 2011.
This definitely is working as the OP is describing. Select text in .docx file, Cmd-Tab to InDesign, paste (with nothing selected)... pastes as an image.
Drawing a text frame in InDesign *first* and *then* pasting the text does work, though (unlike the OP, it's not pasting as an inline graphic for me, so something may have been addressed since his posts), as does pasting the text from Word into TextEdit, then copying the text from TextEdit and pasting into InDesign (it is not necessary to first draw a text frame if pasting from TextEdit).
I can also paste the text from Word into Dreamweaver and then into InDesign, and it'll be actual text in both locations, without having to first draw a text frame in InDesign.
For some reason, though, it's not liking the Word-to-InDesign transition.
I even tried saving the file as a text-only file (.txt), opened that in Word, copied some text, pasted into InDesign with nothing selected... still being pasted as an image.
So, anyway, workaround method it is, for now.
(Yes, placing the Word doc -- as opposed to copying/pasting -- does still work, but if you're only trying to grab a few lines of text from the file, placing becomes more of a hassle.)

Why can't I copy and paste from word into websites?

Hi,
I have been accepted as a writer for 3 online publishers, but cannot copy and paste examples of my work from Word into their websites. The clipboard behaviour seems erratic - sometimes I can copy text from websites and paste into Word, sometimes not.
Can somebody help? It is vital that I am able to supply examples of my written work without having to physically re-type everything or send the examples as attachments.

Do you wait until the Copy button turns blue and then does the Paste button turns blue when you paste the text?

I cannot copy and paste from Word 2007 into Firefox (gmail), and I cannot copy and paste from Firefox (URLs) into a word document.

Copy and Paste from Word document to Role comment creates an error

I get the pinwheel and the program freezes when trying to copy and paste in Word. Does anyone know how to fix this?

In Word I get the spinning pinwheel when I try to copy and paste. I can switch to other programs just fine but I can't perform the copy and paste and I need to perform a hard reboot to close Word. Does anyone know how to fix this?

This is what just worked for me:
In Finder, I've dragged all Pages files from the iCloud Drive to the Documents folder on my iMac. (Finder asks your confirmation to remove the files from iCloud; confirm that)
Once they were on my local hard drive, the files could be opened again.
It looks to me as if something has changed in iCloud quite recently, leading to this mess. Not the first time, I've had this before. Now it's back. Sigh. And, as you wrote, it renders iCloud fairly useless. Back to Dropbox I suppose.

I have a Word file using foreign typefaces, Chinese, Korean etc. I have the fonts on my machine because the word document shows them OK..but, if I try to copy and paste the text into InDesign, those characters either don't show at all, or you just get the pink color with the little gray squares...Does anyone out there have any tips for how to handle this type of situation.

Ooooh, okay. I retract my finger-waggling cautionary statement.
It could be one of a number of different things. I almost always place instead of copy/paste, but I don't have any difficulty copying & pasting complex script text of any sort in any of my various versions and platforms. I'd figure that there are two different possible routes - either there's something about the styling or clipboard that is doing this (meaning that it could be unpacked exactly the same way as any font drop, no complex-script knowledge necessary) or there's something about the non-Latin text itself that is causing the problem. Take a look at the clipboard settings (Edit -> Preferences -> Clipboard Handling) to see if changing those settings resolves the issue, by e.g. changing the settings to raw text.
If that doesn't work, I'd suggest posting a lot more detail. Platform, versions of Word and Indy, the particular fonts that are failing, a description of how styles are set up in the current Word and Indy docs, perhaps a sample of the Word and Indy docs zipped up and made available for testing (e.g. if I can successfully copy/paste into the doc when your user can't, then there's something wrong with the user's install), and so on. Without that kind of information, the best I can do is take random guesses.

Did you try to use the keyboard instead?
Use keyboard shortcuts if the buttons on the web page or other methods aren't working.
*Copy: Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Insert (Mac: Command + C)
*Paste: Ctrl+V or Shift+Insert (Mac: Command + V)
*Cut: Ctrl+X or Shift+Delete (Mac: Command + X)

Copy and Paste from Word on 2nd screen

There seems to be an issue when copying from one screen in Word to the other in indesign.
From one open document to another I get a quick activate/inactive window flash and can't complete the paste unless I click on the application logo in my dashboard.
Which is kind of annoying since my app is active and from Indesign to Word works fine.
Which is kind of supprising!
Is this a known adobe issue and is there any fix?

copy my text in Word
click "Text" (German Id)
right click "insert"
copied text appears in the box

I can't copy and paste from Word into CSS5?

I run in Windows 7 and have many documents in Word, but cannot get any of them to Paste into Contribute. I have had to re-type all the material directly.

I always advise my Contribute clients to "scrub" any Microsoft text before pasting it. You might be able to do this by changing the doc to .txt? Hopefully that would get rid of the layout code embedded in a doc or docx document.
However, since I don't trust anything Microsoft seems to have excess code attached, I first put it into Text Edit on my Mac and save it. Not sure what the equivalent program is on Windows. I think an email program could work just as well, Twigman. You might ask your tech how to save the MS doc so it has no code, like pure ascii text. That way, they will not have to leave Word to scrub the old code out.
