Trying to Crop Screen grabs

I have about 3000 screengrabs I'd like to crop... the screengrabs are of the timeline and canvas in final cut pro and I'm looking to crop out everything besides the images in the canvas. I want to basically define the shape of the crop for the first image and then crop it and have that shape defined for the next image and then just press crop... I want to be able to define this shape and then have all 3000 odd photos cropped without having to redraw the crop everytime I want to crop an image... Is there some sort of free draw tool? Does anybody know how this is achieved in iphoto photoshop or otherwise? Opening 3000 photos in photoshop each weighing 1.8 mb is not a good idea... seems only iphoto or aperture is capable of such an operation but how is it done? It's going to take me way too much time to individually crop out everything but the canvas in all these photos... there must be a simpler way... any ideas?

Although not automatic you can use the forward arrow button and type C to bring up a preset crop area like seen in this video clip. What you don't see in the video is my typing "C" each time.
If you had a keystroke macro application like QuicKeys you could automate that.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Please check your Firefox Installation's version. (can be found by clicking the main menu, either clicking or hovering over the help button, and then clicking about firefox in the sub menu). depending on how long ago you set up sync you may still be using the older sync version. firefox 29 introduced a new (and might i add far less tedious) sync version. see [[How to update to the new Firefox Sync|this Mozilla support article]] for information on upgrading your sync to the new version.

  • CS6 - Screen goes black when trying to crop & clone stamp screen goes polorized when using

I run Photoshop CS6 on a windows 7 machine.  It has started having two problems:
First, when trying to crop, as soon as I release the mouse button after blocking the frame to crop, the screen goes black - No controls, no picture, nothing.   I have to close Photoshop and restart to get back to the photo.
Second, when using clone stamp, as I click to clone the photo switches to odd colors (almost like it was polarized).  The color returns to normal when I release the mouse button.
What is going on and what do I do?
    Thank you,
    Mike Modlin

Update your video card driver from the GPU maker's website, or disable GPU drawing in Photoshop if you cannot update the driver for some reason.

  • How to highlight text in a screen grab?

I did a screen grab from imdb (Internet Movie DataBase) off the Internet.  It's currently in .png format.
I want to highlight part of the text in the text in this picture as if I were using a yellow highlighter marker.  I've tried everything I can think of but so far no dice.
It seems that the thing to do is to choose Tools > Mark Up, but Mark Up is grayed out.
I know this is possible because a guy I work with does it all the time.  But it's too late to call him, and he's fairly irrascible anyway.  And I know I did it once a while ago.
    Can someone help?  Thanks.

I'd never used Grab before, so just did so. It's an awfully simple app, it seems - offers some capture controls the keyboard commands don't (such as timed and full window), but doesn't seem to be able to do anything other than capture an image. Its Preferences are bare-bones.
I had to open my test image in Preview to make any annotations. That was easy - save the image in Grab to the desktop and name it, then a double-click of the file opened it in Preview.
    So, we're back to Preview.
Don't understand why the annotation tools aren't available to you in Preview.
    Edit - -
Just rebooted into Snow Leopard to do some testing. No matter what I tried, new screenshot using keyboard or Grab, fiddling with settings, I could not get Preview to not allow selecting the Rectangle tool.
Only other thing I can think of - do a Get Info on the screenshot file, check the permsissions at the bottom of the Get Info window.

  • Using avi files with DVpal. Working with screen grab footage.

    Hi.
I am currently editing some short little promo's that mix DVpal footage with .avi footage. The .avi footage are screen grabs of someone navigating a website, and are designed as cutaways to illustrate a ptc.
However when they are rendered out on the timeline, the text from the website that is in the screen grab video becomes too distorted/(rasterized i think), essentially unreadable. I was planning on some degradation, but didn't realize it would destroy the image so much.
I have tried exporting/converting the .avi files to certain .mov formats but all with essentially the same problem.
Does anybody know a work around solution to help solve this problem. Or is the best way to redo the screen grabs as .movs with the relevant settings, and can anyone recommend some software for this job.

I think the problem is more based in the fact that you're working in DV. Can you work in a higher quality format?

  • Automated Screen Grabs in Premiere and Media Encoder

I need to make screen grabs from a premiere pro movie that I am editing.  I was able to set up a preset in media encoder that will give me the format of images that I need.  What I can't figure out how to do is how to get media encoder to give me a certain amount of images per second.  The only thing that I can get it to do is make an image for every frame of the movie.  Final cut would let you program the auto scene grab function to (for instance) give you one image for every 2 seconds of the entire movie.  Any thoughts????

I'm having similar problems. I can't export anything now...either from Premiere or from Media Encoder. My sequence is ProRes HQ, I am exporting using sequence settings.
It gets about 75% of the way through and bails with this error message:
    Export Error
    Error compiling movie.
    Unknown error.
That's really helpful. Addtionally, when I tried to export out of Media Encoder, I was greeted by an extremely loud bleating goat noise when it failed. Nice. I had a room full of clients. Thanks Adobe.
I'm seriously doubting the claim of "Pro" at this point.
This was not beta tested with a ****.

  • How do I take a screen grab?

How do I take a screen grab so that I can email it as a whole image?

    I'm sure there is software out there to do this for people but you can do it simply by doing the following;
Tap the "Print Srcrn" key on your keyboard!
Then launch your fave foto editor app.
Then "Paste" and you'll have the whole screen image.
Save it to your hard drive for future use and cropping etc!
    There are also some other options;
"Alt" and "Print Scrn" will give you just the active window on your screen.
This is a nice option for creating visual instructions with images!
    And lastly;
If all you need is a photo from a web page you can Copy & Paste it directly into an email! Not all but most images on websites work!

  • Screen grab resolution

I've been trying to make a poster for a short i did and i was just wondering if I I were to take a screen grab from my short and make it the picture for the poster would there be any way to up the resolution so its really clear...the movie was shot on a DVX100 and I have CS2 ...im new so gimme a break if this is a crazy easy question lol...anyhelp is always greatly appreciated, thanks !

Your still image from FCP, regardless of any setting or format you select, will never be any better than what your video camera produced. Your video is probably only about 500 x 800 pixels, more or less, depending on format, maybe as large as 1080 horizontal pixels if HD.
Still cameras create 3000 pixel images which are huge by comparison to video.
Without using an up-rez filter for a photo editing app like Photoshop or a specific applicaiton, as Scotland suggests, you can only get pigger, blockier pixels. You cannot create any more of them.

  • IMac going slow & screen grabs

    Hi All
I was just wondering if anyone can help me here. My iMac has suddenly decided to run slowly when I'm using certain applications. It's as though it's stopping to think about the command I use and when I quit the Application it takes about 30 secs to do so - any ideas? I thought I had a virus but I believe they're rare, but a few weeks ago I ran Apple's own disk doctor and it said it couldn't run it as something else was using the disk.
Applications used are Quark 5, Adobe Photoshop 7 and Image Ready. The internet seems unaffected, besides freezing quite often. I'm wondering if running Norton on it a few months back has thrown everything out of whack!
I think that's it... thanks in advance.
One other thing - does anyone know how to make good resolution screen grabs? I tried DVD Capture in OSX but they're blurry and on OS 9 I use DVD Extractor and get them from there.

You might have more luck in the OS9 Forum.
    Cheers!

  • I am trying to crop a portrait photo into 6x4 portrait ready for printing.  Iphoto only crops it landscape and therefore cuts out most of the photo.  Is there any way of resolving this?

I am trying to crop a portrait photo into 6x4 portrait ready for printing.  I am using Iphoto on a Macbook Pro.  Everytime I try and crop the photo, it crops in Landscape which cuts out most of the photo.  Is there any way of resolving this?  I am new to Macs as I am currently switching from MS.  It is very easy to do this in MS photo editor so I can't believe it can't be easily done in Iphoto!

  • I have been trying to crop my grandson out of a picture and make him into an 8x10.  His face comes out fuzzy.  I have used effects buttons-sharpness, definitionm, etc with no good results.  Where should I go from there?

Using I Photo I selected a photo of two people and tried to crop one out to make an 8x10 of that person.  Have tried numerouse times and have used the effects selection trying to make face clearer with no luck.  cropped photo is very fuzzy.
any suggestions or just give up?

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use iPhoto. There's an iPhoto Support Community where everybody uses iPhoto. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.
