Trying to decide on best plan for me

I am going to Belgium and Italy and will need to phone mobiles and landlines in Australia and possibly also in Europe. I currently have an unlimited world landline subscription from Australia. I am understanding that my options are a) upgrade to an unlimited world landline and mobile subscription. b) purchase skype credit which could get expensive at 29c/min for mobiles c) Purchase a Skype number.
Could you please advise on considerations for these options.
If I purchase a Skype number does this mean that anyone from around the world can phone me from their mobiles or landlines and that I can phone out to mobiles and landlines from anywhere in the world?

what is the main reason for the $200 price diff btwn the base 2.9ghz 27" iMac ($1,799) and the base 3.2ghz 27" iMac($1,999)??
The differences are 1) the slightly faster CPU, 2) a slightly upgraded GPU with increased VRAM and 3) the ability to upgrade to an i7 processor at the time you place your order.
imho you will be better off investing the $200 price difference in more RAM and/or the Fusion Drive before worrying about the slight speed difference between a 2.9GHz and a 3.2GHZ i5 processor.
RAM and disk drive access times have a significant effect on overall system performance.  Photo and video editing performance will be greatly influenced by the amount of RAM available and disk drive access speed ... far more than a mere 0.3GHz difference in cpu processor speed.
The price difference is even bigger ($400) if you are comparing a 2.9GHz i5 to the 3.4GHz i7 versions.

  • Trying to decide on best configuration for photo/video on 27" iMac.

I want to get the new 27" iMac. I plan to use it for photography as well as some light video editing.
I decided on the 1TB fusion drive.
But what I want to know is what is the main reason for the $200 price diff btwn the base 2.9ghz 27" iMac ($1,799) and the base 3.2ghz 27" iMac($1,999)??
Besides the slight diff in ghz(they are both 3.6ghz with turbo boost by the way)...I only notice that the $1,999 iMac has a faster GPU with 1gig of VRAM as opposed to 512mb.
They are both i5 and identical in every other regard. Is the GPU worth the extra $200 for what I am doing?
What would be more beneficial for photo & video editing? Bumping up to an i7 for $180 more? Or bumping the GPU to the 680mx with 2gigs of VRAM for $135 more?
    Thanks!
Can't wait to order mine. :-)

  • I am trying to decide on a HDD for off site backup

I am trying to decide on a HDD for off site backup, should I use a bus powered drive or  brick powered?  Should I go cheaper with a powered unit or convenience of a bus powered drive.  I would clone my computer and bring it to a friends house. I would do this 2 or 3 times a year just to have an off-site backup of my personal stuff.

How you connect the drive is really what will determine what in my opinion is best. If you connect directly to the iMac then get a brick powered drive. The reason being is iMac's are not known for supplying a lot of power from their USB ports and if you want your backup to be reliable it has to get good power. However if you are using a powered USB hub hanging a bus powered drive should be fine. I also think that if you are going to use the backup as a clone  don't get a USB drive, that's just plain not too smart. Yes it would work however the performance would be awful, if you run into a situation where you rely on that drive for a time to run your Mac you'll hate the experience. In that case get a good Firewire 800 drive which will provide acceptable performance, never as good as a SATA drive but decent performance none the less. That being said if you do decide to get a FW800 drive it will be powered by a brick as I don't thing there is such a thing as a bus powered FW800 port.

  • Best plan for us

Is this where I can find the best plan for our family?  I need to upgrade one of our phones and want the best package. Help me with where to get advice.

Well it would help if we knew what the expected usage is. Without that we have nothing to go off of. I would honestly suggest calling into customer service or telesales and have them go over the plans with you so you can decide what you need.

  • What is the best plan for me? *please read details*

My parents are getting me a 4S for my birthday but I have to pay for the plan.
    - I live in Alberta
    - I will use less than 500MB data
    - I have many friends in different provinces I will be texting
    - I never talk on the phone for more than 200 min a month
    - I'm currently with Koodo
    - I will be in Costa Rica for 4 months in the new year; I am probably gonna get a SIM card when I'm down there.
What's the best service provider, and what's the best plan for me?

    Thanks, Meg.
So would a Verizon device-only iPhone 5S still be the better choice if I plan to use GSM in the US (and not the CDMA part of the Verizon iPhone which would lock me to their service).
Ideally, if I had the device in my hand, I would like to use TMobile's prepaid plan (40$ for unlimited talk, text, and 500 mb of data). Upon getting the phone, couldn't I just discard the included verizon simcard (without my activation) and just pop in the TMobile SIM card since the Verizon device-only instrument comes with the GSM unlocked? ( In other words, I don't have to ask Verizon to unlock the GSM part of the iPhone 5S )
Also, if this is what my goal is (to use a prepaid Tmobile sim), I could just buy an unlocked sim-free iPhone 5S from Apple, right? I dont have to ask for a Verizon device-only iPhone 5S if I want nothing to do with Verizon or use their CDMA service? I'm guessing a device-only iPhone 5s (regardless of carrier label) is the same as unlocked sim-free iphone 5S?

  • Best plan for this scenario (migrate oes2 to oes11)

    Hi there!
I would like to ask you guys the best plan for migrate a few servers that I have
    in oes2 to oes11.
I have four servers in oes2sp2/sp3, these servers have a few NSS
volumes over NCS. Also I have my iPrint service on two machines,
also using NCS. I have one cluster between two machines and
other cluster between the other two machines. For exmaple,
machine1 and machine2, three NSS volumes (every NSS volume is a cluster
resource) and other resource in the same cluster for iPrint. Cluster: CL1
machine3 and machine4, one NSS volume (for other people in the company)
in other cluster. Cluster: CL2. In this cluster only have a NSS volume/resource.
Machine1/3 are physical, machine2/4 are virtual (vmware)
My CA is in other server that I will migrate after a while. So, It seems that there is
no problem with the certificate. Machine1 and machine3 are a replica for the eDir in
    my organization.
My plan: I have deployed two virtual machines and one physical with oes11sp1 and sles11sp2.
I think that the best plan is migrate with migration tool iPrint first, like a cluster resource,
and NSS volumes, and after that, make a transfer ID (like a different project)
For machine1/3, move NSS volumes and after, make a transfer ID.
Is this correct? I dont know If I have to delete the current clusters (cl1 and cl2) and
create new ones, after that, create every resource as It was on the old ones.
    thank you so much !
    Antonio.

If you look in my signature, there's a link to my OES2 guides. Somewhere there is one that I did for our Rolling Cluster Upgrade.
If all you have is NSS and iPrint, then you only need to use the miggui (migration utility) for iPrint--or so I think (I do have to followup on this one as I vaguely recall I asked this a while back and there may have been a way to do this without migrating stuff again).
But your NSS data will simply "re-mount" on the OES11 nodes and you'll be fine (so that's why I like the rolling cluster upgrades).
Let me double-check on the OES2 -> OES11 cluster option with iPrint.
    --Kevin
Thank you Kevin for your answer.
Finally, I think Im going to proceed using transfer ID on my servers that Im only using NSS over NCS (I only have two machines with one NSS volume)
because it seems that its a good option. I would like to keep old IPs from all the servers, cluster and resources if possible. So, testing this
migration on my test environment it seems that it works fine:
    - I use miggui for transfer id between all the machines: physical -> physical and virtual -> virtual. eDirectory assumes new hostname, IP, etc.
the only task "out of the box" is that I have to delete the cluster and regenerate (reconfigure NCS on the new servers) but its pretty easy. This way
I have the two old ips from the older machines and all the ips from the cluster and the cluster resources also. I think that its the best plan.
For the other two machines that has 4 nss volumes and iPrint I must think about a plan. But with those, Im going to proceed this way. I hope
I have chosen a good plan!
thank you so much all for your answers / advices

  • Trying to set up payment plan for final bill. Want...

Treid to set up a payment plan for my final bill thats just come through, nearly 2 months after the line was switched off.
Was told via phone to the indian call center that it was not possible to do this as the account was already closed. And that if i didn't pay the full amount by end of november that i would be taken to court.
Now i am confused, i have made a reasonable offer to pay off the final bill and they are saying no and want to take me to court cos i cannot afford to pay the bill in one lump!!!
    Please help.

Was still in contract when my parent decided that they wanted to sell the house and wanted me out. was left with no choice but to leave.
Wasn't told that it was possible to set up a plan even when querying it before having to cancel.
Unfortunately this is the type of tactics I have come to expect from this company.
My gas and electric company were happy to set up a payment plan to pay the final bill, as was the water company.
The only company that i have had any problems with trying to do this is unfortunately BT.
Well I suppose I could wait until the account went to a collections agency to set up a payment plan with them. Just dont understand why BT themselves cannot do this.

This cost plan will be defaulted via a CRM table maintained especially for the appropriation/budget.
Has anyone defaulted a cost plan onto CJ40 and if so how?

    Hi,
The message is because your position has the historical record flag (HRP1000-HISTO) set to u2018Xu2019. From SAP help:
Allows you to mark infotype records as historical records. Historical records are permanently stored on the database, so that you can report on the information at a later point in time.
NOTE: You cannot change records once they are marked as historical. As a result, you should not mark records as historical unless you no longer require them for processing.
Typically, the flag is set if a user has delimited an object through PP01. Youu2019d see the historical flag in the window that pops up.
To remove the flag, execute report RHHISTO0, enter the relevant details in the selection and execute. The next screen ill show you which record has the flag set. Select that row and click u201Cremove historical recordu201D button on top. You should then be able to remove cost center from the position.
    Hope this helps.

  • Trying to find the best format for an external hard drive

I have a new iMac 20", and I am now converting an external hard drive I had on another computer to be compatible with this one. The ext. HD was formatted as NTFS, and I would like to make it much more easily read/write. I've tried using various tools to enable write support on the drive, but I'm giving up on that, instead opting that I just format the drive to something else.
Disk Utility doesn't really offer me a comprehensive comparison of UFS and Mac OS Extended (Journaled), or any of the OS Extended derivatives.
    Since Everything is either:
    a) Mac OS Extended
    b) MS-DOS or
    c) Unix File System
What are the differences between a) and c) and why would I choose UFS over the others? For the time being, I just want to set up the drive as a backup, but I may use it for more than that, since it has a Firewire connection to it, enabling much better performance than USB.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nick

File system formats and partition map schemes are two different things.
OS X requires the Mac OS Extended (HFS+) file system formatting scheme. Details on file format schemes are in http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Performance/Conceptual/FileSystem/Artic les/MacOSXAndFiles.html
ICBMs (Intel-chip-based Macs) require the GUID Partition Table scheme. Details on partition mapping schemes are in http://developer.apple.com/documentation/MacOSX/Conceptual/universalbinary/universal_binary_tips/chapter_5_section10.html and further information on GUID is in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUIDPartitionTable.
Erasing. When you erase a volume, you delete the volume's file directory (when you erase a disk, you also destroy its partitions and directories); and, when you zero out the data, you write 0s and 1s to the disk and map out bad blocks.
So, I suggest using Disk Utility and erasing, zeroing out data, Mac OS X Extended, and the GUID partition scheme.

  • Trying to build the best system for Final Cut

IWhat screen would be best suitable to work on Final Cut Pro? 1 screen or 2? 24 or 30 inch? I'm using MacPro (SAS DRIVES).Primarily I am a musician, and my end product is for music and video clip, mostly 3d and abstract art in motion. I'd be collaborating with other artists(visual) from different corners of the planet. The end product has to be HD blu-ray .I know Apple does is not geared for Blu-Ray yet, but there are ways around it. Is there a preference to the Nividea or radeon graphic card? I was told, to my surprise, that the Radeon has a better performance benchmark.
Hence , my questions are the following,
1-What kind of screen is best to use? I'm looking @ Samsung XL30,or XL 24.Or even an Eizo, however, unless it is absolutely necessary I do not want to squander my money away, I'll get an Apple screen if that would guarantee as good a result. Apple has not updated screens for quite a while, I'm sure something is coming down the line. However, time is money!!!
2- Which will be the bets graphic card to use for HD end product?
    3-How much memory is needed? I'm looking @ 8GB
4- is 2.8 duo adequate or shall we go for the 3.2GHZ?
Thank you for your kind patience and precious time.

Two monitors...and go with the Dell 2408. 24", blow the Apple monitors away, and can be had for under $700.
Graphics cards help Motion and some rendering for FCP plugins. They don't output HD. For that you need a CAPTURE CARD. AJA is the best, but Decklink isn't anything to sneeze at. All depends on what your needs are. www.aja.com, www.decklink.com
2.8Ghz is adequate...more than adequate. For FCP only, 4GB of RAM is all you need. More RAM will help with running mulitple applications, and other apps like After Effects love RAM. But 4GB is a good minimum.

  • What is the best plan for an unlocked iPhone in the US?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I am thinking of buying a no-contract unlocked iPhone from Apple.
I currently have a no-contract iPhone 4s on Virgin Mobile (USA). My plan is 30$ for 300 minutes, unlimited text and unlimited data. Since VirginMobile is CDMA, I'm guessing they don't unlock their iPhones or let other SIM cards work on the iPhones issued through them (this is assuming the 4s has the GSM capability).
I want a no-contract unlocked iPhone just so I will have the flexiblity of using it overseas since I'm usually making a trip once a year.
    My questions are:
If I buy an unlocked iPhone from Apple (thinking of getting a 5S, 32 GB in white and silver), are there any plans that I can use that are as cheap as VirginMobile's?
I have heard that Verizon iPhones come unlocked (although they have to be activated through Verizon, but a T-Mobile sim can be used and so on). Is this true? Are AT&T iPhones the same?
Will I be able to keep my current cellphone number from Virgin if I switch to a no-contract iPhone and start using a SIM card?
    Thanks!

    Thanks, Meg.

I'm quite new to j2EE developement.
Currently im working on a web based user management application ( a small scale one ).
For that im hoping to use JSP s for presentaion tier and EJBs for business logic. This business logic seems to be having more on database accessing. Im not using Entity Beans for data access , but hope to use Session Beans.
Is it ok if i develop according to this model , or is it better to use Entity Beans for data acccess ?
Is it a bad design to use Session Beans for data accessing ?
Or else , what if i avoid EJB s completely and database access is done via JSP itself ?
Or i have another option , that is , using JSP for the presentation layer and Servlets for database accessing.

  • I am trying to create interactive floor plans for my website Is it possible to do this in Flash CS4?

Is it possible to create interactive floor plans in flash CS4? Are there any tutorials out there to do this?

I don't see why not. Just create the elements you want to move around as MovieClips or swf's, add event listeners to these items listening for MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, drag and MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, drop.   writh the drag and drop functions  and you're set.
    function drag(e:MouseEvent):void {
         itemx.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, drag);
         e.eurrentTarget.startDrag();
    function drop(e:MouseEvent):void {
         itemx.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, drop);
          e.eurrentTarget.stopDrag();

  • Select best plan for DATAGUARD IN RAC ARCHITECTURE

    Hi
In my planing i will have 2node in my RAC but i don't know how do i must to config DATA Guard ..is it be one server or 2server!
if i have only one server for data guard in fail-over what happen for my RAC?
    what about storage?
pls help me to select best solution.

In my planing i will have 2node in my RAC but i don't know how do i must to config DATA Guard ..is it be one server or 2server!What is the version?
If your primary is RAC database, you can configure standby either Single node or RAC standby. It purely depends on your requirement.
If it is RAC then it should be on Two servers, If its standalone standby then one server.
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/maa-wp-10g-racprimarysingleinstance-131970.pdf -- for RAC primary Standalone standby
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/features/availability/maa-wp-10g-racprimaryracphysicalsta-131940.pdf -- for RAC primary and RAC standby
if i have only one server for data guard in fail-over what happen for my RAC?Failover applicable when no Primary in your configuration, If you have performed failover to standby database, As of now its only Single standalone but its an clusterd database. If you add any node, of course you can extend your instance to the newly added node to the cluster.
what about storage?it depends on you. I prefer SAN.
